Reviews for Guesthouse Nara Komachi

Review 1:Was a little difficult to find from Kintetsu-Nara station.

Review 2:Close to food places and the staff were exceptionally great. Our room was clean and the beds were really comfortable. Great value for money.

Review 3:Guesthouse Nara Komachi had everything we needed in Nara: perfect location, a comfortable bed and bathroom, and most importantly very friendly and helpful staff. The staff was always smiling, and giving you a feeling as if you are at home. Free coffee and tea and a good wifi connection were other aspects that made us happy in Nara Komachi. I recommend this place without any hesitation. There was nothing negative about it.

Review 4:This is a wonderful place to stay. The owner is friendly, helpful, and fluent in English. The facilities are clean, well-kept, and modern. The location is highly accessible, yet quiet, and the train station is a short walk away. The price is right. Overall, there's nothing more you can ask for. I can't find any fault with this place, and I absolutely will rebook here if I'm in Nara again.

Review 5:Due to toilet's glass wall & door, need to unwind the blind when using it. Overseeing the toilet seat when sleeping if without winding down the blind.A non 24 hour reception.

Review 6:Tatami room setting.

Review 7:There wasn't a fridge in the room but we could use the common fridge at the common area.

Review 8:Location was good. We rented bicycles from the hotel and cycled almost everywhere. Room was quite small but cosy. Private toilet and shower was excellent. Bed was comfy. Overall highly recommended!

Review 9:Rooms have thin walls, so you can hear a lot. Fortunately, all the other guests were very polite: it was quiet after 10pm and the early morning. Also, the sink in the room was the perfect size for an elf ー not for regular adults.

Review 10:Comfortable bed! Quiet neighborhood with several cafes and shops nearby.

Review 11:Staffs are friendly. They helped me calling the Kansai Airport for searching my scarf (which was lost on the airplane). I really appreciate!! The room is not big at all, but it's enough to unfold our luggages, and also comfortable to stay in the room.

Review 12:Comfy guesthouse with friendly and helpful staff. The traditional room was compact but well thought out with a comfortable bed and a good shower. Facilities in the lobby just add to the experience. Location is good for eateries and not far from the local attractions

Review 13:Not enough space to open 4 roommates' luggage.

Review 14:Very friendly and helpful boss, staff with good English (And boss's lovely daughter) .Very comfortable wooden bunk bed with good curtain, table lamp, socket. Tiny but clean and tidy toilet and shower inside room, with bath towel and hangers. Good cool/warm air condition control inside room.

Review 15:Clean, close to Metro, and very feiendly English speaking staff. Very good value for money. Half the rate for similar accommodation If you have JR pass it might worth to stay here and commute to Kyoto which is only 45minutes away by Rapid train.

Review 16:Maybe keeping smoking area away from the entrance so that I don't have smoke coming through my window that was slightly above the entrance or when I go out/in of the building?

Review 17:Guesthouse Nara Komachi is conveniently located on a quiet side street within 5 minute walk from Nara JR Station and Sanjo Dori. It is clean and the entire establishment is non-smoking. I also had a spotless private good size shower and toilet. There is a small kitchen and refrigerator in the lobby area available. Very happy with this stay. Highly recommended.

Review 18:Wall separating bunk beds from bathroom/shower was entirely made of glass - stylish maybe for a private home but odd for a shared dorm room. There was a pull-down screen but still a bit strange though nothing catastrophic. Only the inability to cancel a reservation no matter how far in advance would prevent me from booking again.

Review 19:Very clean, rooms were adequately spacious. Friendly staff, comfortable if not cavernous common area.

Review 20:Location is excellent - very close to JR Nara station, and 10-15 minute walk to the main shopping area and Nara park. Bikes available to rent at the guesthouse, and at another shop nearby. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern and the staff are lovely. Great value for money - would definitely recommend.

Review 21:The location was great: a very quick walk from the station with bags. Nara isn't huge so you can either walk, bike, or ride on a bus for a few minutes to get around. The guesthouse provided us with fantastic information about local services, shops, and restaurants. Staff were friendly and informative. Our room was compact but perfectly clean and had everything we needed. The common area has a little kitchen as well if you are tired of eating out.

Review 22:Fantastic hostel/guesthouse for our family of 4 !! Well located near the station (an easy walk). Rooms were new feeling and spotless, and really well thought out (eg privacy curtains on beds, own light for each bed, fold-away table, lockers etc). Cozy but enough room with bunk beds and our own bathroom. And absolutely lovely, English speaking, helpful staff. The shared kitchen facilities were very small but fine for a short stay (1 or 2 nights).

Review 23:Honestly.... Not much! It was our favourite hotel during our 2 week stay in Japan.

Review 24:The staff was amazing, very helpful, very friendly and welcoming, it was a real treat! The rooms are clean, the beds are amazing, and the showers are great. For the price and location, this is definitely a steal!

Review 25:Very friendly and helpful people with a great map. Such well designed smaller spaces which had everything you need and felt comfortable. Close to station is easy for walking with bags and can walk to many attractions and we did a few taxis back with the kids Visit the tourist centre on far side of pond as we got to do origami and watch Koto harp performance (and have a try!)

Review 26:Homely, clean and spacious! Mr Kazu was very very helpful and friendly. Location of guesthouse is close to JR Nara station and walking distance to Nara park. Would definitely stay here again if I visit Nara.

Review 27:This was the best stay on our Japan trip. The rooms are new renovated and smart designed in a way that they feel bigger and cozier than other rooms in the same price category.

Review 28:The staff were friendly, answered all our travel questions, provided maps and were overall incredibly helpful. The facilities were clean. DONT WORRY THERE IS A CURTAIN ON THE BATHROOM! It was a real pleasure staying here, and we would do so again in a heart beat.

Review 29:Hot water was very poor. More like Luke warm. DVD players should be available for hire as only Japanese TV.

Review 30:Friendly staff. Close to Main Street and close to station.

Review 31:The kindness received at the arrival, the useful suggestions on restaurants, bakery, place to visit. Plus the service of rent a bike in order to enjoy our stay as much as possible. Thank you!

Review 32:The WiFi worked, but did drop out from time to time. Not critical and was not a concern.

Review 33:The host was very welcoming. A detail orientated approach was most welcome. He was very knowledgable about Nara restaurants and recommendations were right. The room was very comfortable for a solo traveller.

Review 34:None. But make sure that you are getting to Nara with the JR line (there is another train service to Nara which is further away from the guesthouse, but still, within 15 minutes walk).

Review 35:Nara is a beautiful place. The guesthouse is one of the best I have ever stayed in at this price. It is more like a hotel, with its ensuit facilities and excellent staffs. There are bicycles to be rented at a reasonable price. Definitely first choice at Nara.

Review 36:Nothing bad we can say about this place.

Review 37:Great location. Excellent staff and great environment. Love our time in nara. We really want to stay longer, but we are running out of time.

Review 38:This is a family owned hotel and the whole family has been very welcoming during our stay. Great location and awesome services! Will recommend to my friends!

Review 39:The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hire bikes were in excellent condition. Location was super convenient to the train, shopping and local sites.

Review 40:Narrow circular stairs could have been a problem, but staff carried our luggage up and down.

Review 41:The room was small and very economical, but it had everything we needed. Table folded out from wall, and chairs fold or fit under desk so a futon could fit on the floor. Bathroom had small sink, but shower and toilet nice with glass sliding doors and creative curtain betweend it and the room.

Review 42:we loved the atmosphere in this place, room and surroundings. we feel homey in this guesthouse. The place is extremely clean. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The location is very close to JR Nara. Recommended place to stay!

Review 43:Nothing.

Review 44:Great location, friendly staff and helpful staff, bikes for hire, clean and well kept facicilties with a small kitchenette available handy for preparing or reheating your own room. Short distance from Nara JR Train Station.

Review 45:The shower room is too cramped and when the vapor fills the space it makes one breathless

Review 46:The double room is tiny but well furnished with almost everything we want. The staff is friendly and particularly communicative in English. Recommend!!

Review 47:Staff was knowledgeable about the area and always eager to answer questions or fufill request. The hotel was easy to find and just a few minutes walk from Nara station. Hotel was equipped with a variety of facilities including a kitchen, drinks, and cables.

Review 48:We spent two nights at Nara Komachi Guesthouse in a traditional Japanese room with a shower and toilet. The room was very clean and comfortable and the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. They spoke very good English and we were advised on places to go and restaurants to try. The guesthouse was also a short walk to all the central places of interest such as: the main park and temples, shops, restaurants and even a launderette. We would definitely recommend it.

Review 49:Few minutes walking distance from Nara station. It was a cosy place to stay with private baths in the room. The owner was super kind and friendly with clean environment. You can easily access to many places from the hostel. Highly recommended!

Review 50:nothing. It was all good.

Review 51:The Komachi was our first stop in Japan and it was lovely to have such a warm welcome. The guesthouse is a few minutes walk from the JR station, about 10 minutes from main street and maybe about 30-40 mins from Nara Park. The staff were super friendly and super helpful while the guesthouse was modern, clean and simple. All in all, a great place to stay.

Review 52:Initial finding the place was a bit challenging although wasn't that bad either.

Review 53:Staff were very nice and helpful. Great location and everything you need was there!

Review 54:Stayed one night here on a very last minute whirlwind kansai visit, and were very impressed by this lovely guesthouse. Staff speak perfect English if you don't speak Japanese, and there was even some free umeshu (plum wine), sake, and soup for guests in the lobby. Room seemed brand new, very clean and modern, would absolutely recommend this place. Bikes are available for hire too, think it was 500 yen each per 24 hours.

Review 55:Space. Of course, this cannot be helped as it is Japan and the staff do the best they possibly can to help with the storage of luggage after checkout until you depart Nara.

Review 56:This guesthouse is more like a micro-hotel. All aspects of this place are excellent especially the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff.

Review 57:No laundry facilities but there is a laundrette 3 minutes walk away which is cheap and easy to use.

Review 58:One of our favourite stays in Japan. The private, en-suite, tatami room is small but perfectly formed. Very calm, friendly and helpful staff. You can leave your bags before check in and they move them into your room before you get back, a lovely touch. 2 minutes walk from the station. Bikes available to hire. Free drinks including sake available in reception. Excellent WiFi, computers also available.

Review 59:Great location (5 mins from the train station), clean, comfortable dormitory rooms, awesome bathrooms, friendly staff (offered all adult guests free liquer or sake to celebrate New Years).

Review 60:The hospitality of the host is perfect! When we returned for check in, our luggages have already been placed in our second floor's room. Great service and great location. The train station is just opposite the lane.

Review 61:I think the wash basin is too tiny to use, and the soundproof is not good that I can hear the snore from next room.

Review 62:Conveniently location, rooms are very comfortable, and staffs are very friendly. It is worth more than it costs.

Review 63:Really narrow stair case - for those with unwieldy luggage maybe a problem.

Review 64:Interesting set-up with showers and toilet just divided, from the bed room, via a large glass partition. There are pull-down curtains, though.

Review 65:A clean, comfy and big (for Japan) room! All new! Very friendly and helpful staff. Al facilities are super ok to enjoy your stay. Good equipped kitchen with free coffee and thee

Review 66:sinker is too small to normal use. You can only wash hand by there.

Review 67:fast wifi speed good performance of rental bicycle with gear changer nice location nearby JR station, with every store you need.

Review 68:Staff at reception introduced entire hostel and city map with tourist spots to us, very nice guy. Quite close to the station so a good opportunity to even travel daily to Kyoto within 1 h and save money

Review 69:Kitchen and common facilities very small and limited but we didn't have any problem because we were the only users...

Review 70:Location, cosiness, staff, cleanliness

Review 71:The hotel is excellent, we are really happy and had great time. The owner is super nice and helpful. The location is perfect, near restaurant and train station. The hotel also has bike for hire and it doesnt cost much at all. We highly recommend the place for anyone traveling to Nara.

Review 72:Techniquelly everything was excellent! Lovely clean and bright house with a well equipped kitchen. The host was incredibly friendly! He'd suggest a route for guests for touring. I will definitely come back and visit!

Review 73:Taken aback by glass sliding doors- wall separating toilet from the bed area. Although there was a blind that could be pulled down for privacy, if it was left down the whole time, no natural light, as the only window was above the toilet. Quite an unusual construction/design by Western standards.

Review 74:Wonderful friendly staff, excellent mattress, very convenient location.

Review 75:The staff were very helpful. We had to leave a day early due to the typhoon but since they were able to book the room right away, we were reimbursed. it is near the JR station and you can really walk to many of the sites.

Review 76:The guesthouse was very well equipped and clean. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about Nara. Their English is very good as well. The location is close to the JR station and the shopping area. Using the bike rental makes it easy to visit the many tourist attractions in Nara.

Review 77:The whole place gives you claustrophobic impression as it is as tiny as it can be but still everything is very functional and well thought.

Review 78:- It's located just next to the JR train station. - Most friendly and very well english speaking staff - wifi with excellent coverage

Review 79:check in at 3 pm ,but it seems that everywhere in japan is like this

Review 80:This tiny lovely guesthouse is located not far from JR Nara Station. 5 minutes walk. The GH is quite small but AMAZING. Unfortunately we spent just 1 night but we wished we could have stayed more. Everything was just perfect! Kind and polite staff, excellent room, clean and comfortable bed, excellent shower and bathroom though a bit small but we definitely recommend it. Excellent free wi fi and the chance to sue a small kitchen beyond free coffeee and tea. We have already advertise it to our friends and followers on facebook and twitter. Good job Kazuhito

Review 81:This is more like staying at a hostel-hotel. While the rooms were wonderful and some of the best on my trip to Japan, the place lacked any coherent community feel. I think this is primarily down to a lack of room to develop a communal space, but they do wonders with what they have.

Review 82:The staff were great, friendly and attentive even for the Japanese. Everything you could need is provided for and the quality of accomodation is very high.

Review 83:Everything was perfect!

Review 84:I really enjoyed my stay in Nara Komachi Guesthouse. Room was very clean, bed was comfortable and sheets were wondering white. Staff was helpful and friendly. Good WiFi connection. Very close to JR Nara Station.

Review 85:Nothing

Review 86:The owner and his secretary were really friendly and helpful. They give with pleasure informations about the city. The 4 shared female bedroom was really nice, convenient and clean. Well located (~15min by foot from the Kintetsunara) and 5 min from the JR station and its supermarket.

Review 87:Location Atmosphere is very home-like, cozy, comfortable Lovely room (with tatami and a glass-wall toilet, you'll see^^)) Very comfortable guest-zone downstairs with Mr.Bin TV series on and computers for games Complimentary coffee, tea, small kitchen with facilities Lounge music Comfortable matress, pillows and blanket Clean shower with dry floors Laundry nearby Liked everything

Review 88:The guesthouse is not in a nice area but 5min walk from the station

Review 89:Close to the train station, clean and comfortable room. The owner of the guesthouse is nice and speaks fluent english. Bike service!

Review 90:Very small room, tiny bathroom sink, hot water barely enough for two showers, and the hot water was not very hot.

Review 91:Clean, very nice staff who spoke some English, kitchen facilities available for use by guests, close to train station and supermarket, easy access to public transportation, 20 minute walk to the Park, restaurants, cafes and shopping nearby, excellent AC.

Review 92:Nothing. Everything is great!

Review 93:Located nearby the JR Train Station, Limousine Airport Bus, stores, and restaurants. It is a very nice guesthouse with excellent staff, customer service, and facilities. The guesthouse is very clean, quiet, and modern. A place that you can call your second home. Definitely, I will come back in the near future.

Review 94:No complaints.

Review 95:We stayed in a Japanese style double room with ensuite and it was really comfortable. The staff spoke fluent English and were very friendly and helpful. Only 5 minute walk from JR station. WiFi was very fast and reliable.

Review 96:Sinks in the room are very, very small.

Review 97:Dedicated and caring owner. Great atmosphere. Everything you need is provided from tea, coffee, computers, to kitchenette. Kazu, the owner is full of information about Nara and will go out of his way to help. I was sad to leave.

Review 98:Overpowering smell of BO in the hallway for unknown reason.

Review 99:Room was clean, comfortable, quiet, air-conditioned, had shower and toilet. There were multiple outlets available. Wi-fi was pretty good, but a little weak in our room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us call another hotel to cancel an upcoming reservation, carried our goofily large backpacks upstairs, and gave us advice on what order to see things in and how much time to allocate. Price was great. Location was right by the train station, very easy to find (huge sign) and a straight shoot down the main road to Nara park. Lots of food nearby.
