Reviews for Saccharum Hotel Resort & Spa

Review 1:There were a few minor things that would improve the hotel - but overall I would definitely return! The bathroom setup in the rooms is a bit odd - it's literally integrated into the entrance to the room, and the walk-in shower is also indirectly open to the entry-way. This was a conscious design element consistent with the decor of the hotel, but could use a bit more thought. The walk in shower needs a door, low lighting left most of the hotel and rooms in the dark, the quality of the food at the rooftop bar and omelet station was poor, no room service, had to pay for parking/safe

Review 2:We stayed 26 Dec - 2 Jan for some post-Christmas relaxation, and after some research (this was our first stay in Madeira) we decided to stay at a resort outside Funchal. The hotel is a 40 min drive from the airport; while the hotel offers transport to/from the airport, we decided to rent a car for the week, which turned out to be a bit exciting as Funchal is a volcanic island with little spare room for straight roads. The hotel is relatively new (less than 1 year in operation), with a design concept based on the island's sugar cane industry and overlooking the sea, and almost everything about the hotel was perfect. The staff were overall very friendly, polite and helpful for the duration of our stay.We stayed in a room on the 6th floor with a full sea view, and couldn't have been happier - the room was spacious and modern, with fully functioning temperature control, bed was large and firm but comfy, walk in shower was large with great water pressure, private patio was perfect for sitting and watching the waves crash onto the beach. The hotel has it's own private beach, with another public sandy beach and restaurants a 5 minute walk down by the marina. There is an outdoor rooftop pool (open during our stay and open to all ages), and an indoor heated pool that is part of the adults-only spa area (free if you purchase a spa treatment, otherwise cost is 20 EUR per person per day).We purchased a couples massage, which was the best value offered, and thoroughly enjoyed the pre-massage jacuzzi, the massages which were some of the best we've had, and also our post-massage time in the spa area with jacuzzi, dry & steam saunas, mood showers and indoor heated pool.We ate in the hotel buffet, restaurant, and rooftop bar. The breakfast buffet was well stocked with a nice variety of hold and cold dishes and an omelette/crepe station (the omelette chef needs more practice).

Review 3:Some recommendations on trips and activities would be appreciated No tea/coffee in the room, although there's a kettle

Review 4:Minimalistic, modern interior design Very spacious room with a huge, comfortable bed Beautiful views Excellent food - breakfast with a wide variety of choices; fantastic a la carte restaurant! Cleanliness Very good WiFi

Review 5:Some apartments with "partial sea view" have almost exclusively a view on the parking lot, ask for a higher floor. No dinner room service at all. You'll need a car if you want to move around.

Review 6:Really nice modern apartment with a gorgeous sea view, great bed & linen, beautiful swwimming pool & facilities. Daily transfer to Funchal.

Review 7:The card for the car park. Never worked. Having to pay to get in the spa area. Everything else was ok.

Review 8:The outdoor pool, on the 8th floor is really amazing. Breakfast - a wide variety of anything you can imagine. The view over the sea is stunning. The hairdryer really works as a professional one. The gym is great as well.

Review 9:Decor is rather minimalist and there is little privacy in the room. The public areas seem rather gloomy. But neither of these detracted from our overall excellent experience .

Review 10:A beautiful room with balcony overlooking the sea. This was especially useful in the dramatic storm we had. Excellent food in both buffet and a la carte restaurants, and very fine breakfasts.

Review 11:The price for buffet restaurant was overpriced for the quality of food which was one of my only critiques

Review 12:The cleanliness of the hotel was impeccable! The a la carte restaurant was of 5* in every aspect.

Review 13:I think for a 5* hotel, the safe should be provided for free. Also the pool area could have been a little cleaner.

Review 14:The location was amazing, infinity pool looking right out to the sea, surrounded by a mountain! The room was great, great facilities, breakfast fantastic.

Review 15:Need trays at breakfast to stop having to go back and forth to table , hotel way too dark needs better lighting , no tea or coffee provided

Review 16:Lovely selection at breakfast nice pools with comfortable seating areas , nice big modern room lovely shower

Review 17:The only thing I would to say is that the hallways to your room are very dimly lit.

Review 18:I think this hotel definitely deserves to be a 5*. I could not fault the welcome, service, facilities and luxurious furnishings. The Saccharum Hotel and Spa has simply been the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The hotel is very new and the history behind its name is fascinating.

Review 19:Staff insufficiency trained, lack of service mindset, would not make efforts to help guests with recommendations and searches on activities Pool bar ran out of coke zero for four days and when asked whether other restaurants at the hotel had stock, answer was "I don't know" and the waitress didn't try to figure it out No tags on food at buffets Staff in charge of omelettes and crepes at breakfast lack experience

Review 20:Nice pool and spa Comfortable rooms Clean hotel

Review 21:Breakfast ( a lot of stuff, but no fresh orange juice), You have to pay 20€ extra per day to have access to the SPA (incl. the indoor pool!)

Review 22:Pools, Rooms, Design, view, Staff

Review 25:Not particularly attractive hotel from the outside. Hotel pools could be a little larger considering the size of hotel.

Review 26:Great interior design, lovely views, fantastic a la carte restaurant and friendly staff.

Review 27:No direct UK TV channels, lack of privacy in toilet section of hotel room, pools too cold especially indoor one, annoyed by other guests smoking on their balconies, sometimes hot items of breakfasts had gone cold ( possibly because low levels of guests due to been brand new). Could have done with another comfortable chair in room

Review 28:View and location of room, comfortable beds , breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, infinity pool and spa area were great

Review 29:Though the hotel is great, it is quite expensive compared to other 4 stars hotels in Madeira.

Review 30:Great hotel, nice pool

Review 31:No cell phone reception. Indoor pool only included in spa fee.

Review 32:The King size bed. The shower.

Review 33:We stayed in a Deluxe Suit - simply amazing, very big and spacious with a fantastic view!

Review 34:A fantastic new hotel with very helpful staff, I'd stay again tomorrow.
