Reviews for Villa Sacra

Review 1:Close to a railway crossing, which meant a lot of noise throughout the night. The room also had little to no sound insulation, and a gap between ours and the next room along, meaning constant noise and smell of smoke permeated the room.

Review 2:Traditional Japanese room, interesting arty design, and the location was very handy for train station and centre of town. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Review 3:Very poor value for money, too expensive for a 1-star ryokan. This was a obviously a private house forcefully converted into an inn with a few rooms. The Japanese garden had too much debris on it and had not received attention for a long time. Facilities were poor, all rooms were too small for the number of guests they should accommodate. Electrical wires were exposed throughout our room, posing a fire hazard, cleanliness was below Japanese standards. Comfort was below average. The Croatian young man at the front desk spoke good English. He was nice, accommodating & helpful.

Review 4:Everything was good.

Review 5:The location was perfect, very close to the train station and a short walk from most tourist attractions. The staff were friendly and the room and bathroom were clean. The beds were so comfortable and the pillows were great (real pillows and not beans). And the free tea and biscuits were good.

Review 6:It was a little small and there was no space in the room to put or store our things (bags, etc) but it was only a minor inconvenience.

Review 7:Staff were incredibly friendly and gave really good recommendations about places to eat and go. The guesthouse is really cute and the room we stayed in was really cool. Location is awesome, close to station and shops/restaurants. Definitely good value for money!

Review 8:Thin walls, narrow and rough stairs.

Review 9:Staff were amazing! Very helpful! A traditional cool place. Very comfy facilities. Coffee and tea for free. Good location - close to the main station. Recommended (:

Review 10:Everything is a bit small (rooms, toilet, etc.), but considering that it's Japan, it's ok.

Review 11:Location 5 minutes walk from train station. Very nice stuff. The property was very clean.

Review 12:Rooms small and our room (Moon) had a panel coming down from the ceiling (old doorway/wall between rooms) that was the perfect height for someone around 6' to crack their head on, especially in the dark. Another room had pebbles inside the door which is a nice idea but very impractical. Noise from the train station audible including at night (announcements, level crossing, trains).

Review 13:Very close to Kamakura station (JR/Enoshima Dentetsu), Hachiman shrine, shopping streets. Very friendly and helpful staff, washing machine and dryer available, excellent restaurant run by same people nearby (Wander Kitchen). Beautiful decor.

Review 14:The lady that runs the place is super nice and helpful. Place is clean, comfortable. Location of the hotel is close to the kamakura station and the shopping street but it's not loud at all! They can keep your luggage at the front desk if you arrive early. Highly recommended to stay here.

Review 15:We have to admit it's quite difficult to locate this hotel, but the owners help when called.

Review 16:Very friendly welcome , perfect location for all Kamakura sites. Nice authentic guest house experience.

Review 17:The internet wouldn't work on any of our three devices. The room for three of us was like the size of a room for one person and it seemed like a closet.

Review 18:The location was great and the staff were very friendly. There is a clothes dryer but it doesn't work so well. It was good for us because we were there when it was raining. The staff did give us umbrellas to use. There are some teas and things in the communal living area, a fridge and a nice sitting area. You can take a bath!

Review 19:The comfort of the beds.

Review 20:Villa Sacra is a darling little place extremely close to the train station. The ambience is wonderful and the inn is very charming. The price was very reasonable. Our room was very small. We had a bunkbed that was sturdy, but only had a thin mat. This is extremely common for Japanese inns, but I personally need 3 or 4 to sleep comfortably. My husband slept fine though. The inn has all shared bathrooms, which worked out fine for us since we are early risers. If you are not though, you might hear guests getting ready in the morning as the rooms are all close together. The inn has two bikes you can rent. We loved the location...it was close to many good restaurants and the commercial center of town.

Review 21:The hotel is in second row to the train station, so there is some noise from there.

Review 22:The rooms interior design was great. We even had a small winter garden.

Review 23:Room was pretty small and two of four walls were just glass (single lair) "doors", which made lot of noise. So room seemed so fragile, almost about to break when there was wind or someone slammed the door.

Review 24:Staff was the best and very helpful. Location was also very good, close to station, shops, restaurants and in about middle from all important temples/shrines...

Review 25:Villa Sacre is a an old house that has been given a new creative life ....each room is imaginatively and beautifully decorated....the staff are lovely and helpful and a great team....and there is also a brilliant Cafe nearby created by same owner. Brilliant situation aswell so all in all I would highly recommend!

Review 26:Room and bed was very dirty, dust everywhere and smelled pretty bad too. Sound insulation was very bad as well

Review 27:It was close to the train station (too close) and city centre.

Review 28:Charming wooden house with very kind hosts, but with very small rooms. Our sons had a room upstairs, and it is virtually impossible to bring suitcases there due to the narrow and steep stairs. We stayed downstairs and could barely move in our room, as all space was occupied by our family's luggage. The house is quite noisy, we heard our neighbours loud and clear. Also, the train crossing is at about 50m, with a warning sound every few minutes (a lot of trains travel to and from Kamakura). Light sleepers should bring earplugs!

Review 29:This place cannot be considered a hotel. The room had no equipment and was MINUSCULE. Shared and TINY bathroom. It was EXPENSIVE. We do not recommend it on any level whatsoever.

Review 30:The staff was welcoming and helpful

Review 31:Very small room and common area, if it is just a place to sleep - should be fine

Review 32:Very friendly and helpful personnel, close to the trainstation and main attaractions of Kamakura

Review 33:If you have the upstairs room the stairs are pretty steep and narrow. One moderately annoying thing is, especially upstairs, that you can hear noises from the train station at night, up until fairly late. So if you are a light sleeper, just take ear plugs. I'm a very light sleeper but I managed.

Review 34:Staff were absolutely charming and welcoming, lovely little place to cozy up in Kamakura.

Review 35:Shower in the morning was cold. Admittedly is been out for coffee and a temple walk and was close to checkout so I may have been the last to shower and no hot water..... Not sure. Note I didn't ask the staff and it could have been my error though I did manage a hot shower in the same shower room the night before.

Review 36:Decent coffee and tea facilities (filter, not instant) Washing machine and dryer in the shower room Quirky Japan perfect for a quirky beach weekend at karmakura. We accidentally left a shirt in the shower area and the staff washed it and returned it clean out of pure kindness - no charge or expectation. This is a great place that I would readily return to. It's 100 steps from the rail line (jr and electric), 150 steps from the main eating area that leads to the temples, and 10 steps to the most amazing cake shop / patisserie you've ever patronised. Yup, it's that good....

Review 37:The room was small as Japanese rooms are but it two chairs in it which were unnecessary. Suggest the chairs are taken out.

Review 38:The staff were very helpful. The bed was comfortable. Good position almost next to the railway station. Slightly quirky decoration but lots of character. Small lounge area with micro wave and tea and coffee.

Review 39:The internet did not work for us. The location is very near the RR tracks and the warning beeps of the road gate are frequent (but we got used to it).

Review 40:The old Japanese style of our room was beautiful. The staff were very friendly. Although the 2 bath/shower rooms and the 2 toilets were shared, they were clean and the wait was short.

Review 41:The location was excellent, the staff were very friendly, welcoming and flexible, the rooms and facilities were very clean, common area with tea, coffee and microwave was very useful. Small rooms but it is Japan.

Review 42:-Very little space to open suitcases within the room -Walls are paper thin, can hear other guests and trains -Why cover a third of the already small floor space of the room with pebbles? -More expensive than rooms in Tokyo...

Review 43:The staff was lovely

Review 44:We booked a room for three people - it turned out the third bed was a folding couch thing, it was very uncomfortable, with a wooden frame coming through and zero padding. That would have been ok if the price was low - the price was way too high for that kind of bedding. Also the walls are very thin. Also our room had a gravel entryway inside, which was very loud every time you leave, also uncomfortable on bare feet.

Review 45:Location next to the station, great free coffee and kumquats for breakfast, friendly staff. Very clean bedding and good pillows. Good showers and toilets.

Review 46:Railway is very close and was noisy. Facilities were hostel standard at hotel price but there was nowhere else available so I guess that's Kamakura for you.

Review 47:Easy to find, lovely staff and great character. We had the upstairs room which was airy and a pleasing place to hang out.

Review 48:- the house is old and the noise of the window panes vibrating with the (though moderate) wind was difficult to bear at night. "Walls" between rooms are extremely thin, so you can enjoy snores, farts and mumblings of the guy next door at night. - the floor was a bit dusty and the bedsheets sligthly stained and smelly, but, well, given this is a guesthouse, it's still quite ok.

Review 49:- the owner was very friendly, generous and helpful - the location is great, next to the pulsing little heart of Kamakura, 5 mins walk from the station. - the rooms layouts are creative, funny, quirky, a mix of japanese clichés (shojis, zen-inspired paintings, verandah), sophisticated calligraphies and paintings, psychedelic colours and funny details - cool little backyard and garden - friendly mood

Review 50:Walls are thin and therefore can be noisy with loud neighbours.

Review 51:Location is very close to the Kamakura station. People are very nice and helpful. Bathrooms are shared but very clean

Review 52:The fact that we only stayed in Kamakura for one night!

Review 53:My friend was visiting me in Japan and we were looking for a chill place to stay in Kamakura. We struck gold with Villa Sacra. It's very close to the station and just off ye main shopping street in Kamakura. The facilities are clean and relaxed. We stayed in the Tiger room. Staff was super helpful. Nice bathrooms and showers.

Review 54:We booked on day during the trip in japan so nearly "at last minute" and we are really happy about the choice of location + hotel. Villa sacra is really good: nice staff really helpful! We really appreciate the stay as it summarize perfectly the japan people: welcoming and helpful! + they recommended kamakura rokuyata restaurant 2 min walk ... Just perfect place too!!

Review 55:Its close to a train crossing so you can hear the train and the signals in the evening and quite early in the morning.

Review 56:Cute, clean but small room. Staff was very polite and friendly.

Review 57:Bathing & toilet spaces a little cramped. A larger kitchen space would also be appreciated.

Review 58:Very welcoming & informative staff. Funky, casual atmosphere. Really appreciated access to free laundry facilities. Good WiFi connectivity.

Review 59:No problems at all. Shared bathrooms and common areas are tiny, but very clean and accessible. Staff goes out of their way to make guests comfortable.

Review 60:Charming tiny guesthouse with unique artistic rooms. Extremely friendly and helpful staff (adequate English). Offers a real taste of Japan in the historic small city of Kamakura. Only 1 hour from Tokyo by train and definitely worth the trip.

Review 61:Perfect location in very close walking distance from Kamakura station, main temples areas. Very kind staff, have provided good advice about places to visit, restaurants, nearby café for breakfast. Very clean and well equipped location. Be aware that this is a traditional Japanese house with futon bed and wooden walls (hence you can hear talking from room next door)... but this is the experience you expect in this kind of place, right ? Excellent value.

Review 62:Due to the tiny space and thin walls, it's quite noisy if there's inconsiderate guests. I can hear snoring from the guests in the adjacent rooms.

Review 63:It's a tiny guesthouse just 5 mins walk from Kamukura Station, West exit. It has private rooms with shared bathrooms and toilets. The staff are friendly and there's travel information provided of the area. A complementary variety of tea and coffee and snacks are also provided. Towels are available for rent at 300 Yen. There's also a coin washing machine available.

Review 64:Lots of train noise through the windows and a bit pricey for what we got.

Review 65:Great location just steps from the train station and access to the many temples in the area.

Review 66:The hotel was very close to the JR station, about 3 min walk. The room is very charming, the bed are very confortable and the staff, Hiromi and Ryosuke, are amazing people; love to talk and share experiences

Review 67:- wifi availability depends on location in room - a bit noisy (little nice traditional windows make noise if windy, train station noise)

Review 68:- Nice traditional room - friendly staff - very tidy and clean - location very central

Review 69:It is not easy to find the place as it is hidden in a garden, we first didnt know which door we should take then once we found, we knocked and rang many many times but due to the high music inside noone answered for 5-10 mins. Later a lady heard and opened the doors. We arrived a bit earlier than checkin time like at around 12.00. We had a double room on the ground floor and the sliding door of the terrace was not closing completely blowing cold air. Therefore we had to put the AC to 26 degrees for a long while but then we were warm.

Review 70:good location once you find where it is, good price for money especially for a hostel. The shared bathroom was clean and nice. There is a free coffee/tea anytime. If you stop for 1 night in Kamakura, this hostel is a great choice to save money.

Review 71:Towels was for rent for AU $ 3.00.We paid AU$ 100.00 a night so I think a towel could have been included if was needed.

Review 72:Location was great! Despite being close to train line,we couldn't hear the trains at night or early in the morning. Also the style of the property was a plus.It really looked like an old japanese house. We stayed downstairs and whoever was above was was noisy and it did troubled our sleep.(house is old).

Review 73:Noise from the common area can be heard from my room. Also, you have to pass this area going to and from the common bathroom.

Review 74:Very helpful staff, free wifi. Comfortable bed. Room even has a small table and two chairs where you can relax and just view the small garden.

Review 75:This old house has been styled with so much taste and love. Every room is different and unique, the little garden is very cute. I wish we could have stayed more. The staff is extremely kind, trying to help whenever they can. The location is also great, only 2-3 minutes walk from the station. I would definitely recommend to everybody.

Review 76:There's a tiny (3' x 5') vestibule for removing and storing street shoes before stepping up to the hallway leading to the rooms--it is hard to balance, and only one person fits at a time. We loves Villa Sacra and are returning there, but it is not for the claustrophobic!

Review 77:Warm staff, authentic small-scale (snug!) tatami-platform room, artsy style w unique rooms, nice shared bathrooms and small sitting area w tea, microwave, coffee always available. Hidden gateway from the street makes you feel like you have stepped into a private house garden.

Review 78:Fantastic staff super kind and full of top tips for local and regional trips Beautiful interior design of rooms. Less than 5 min walk from Kamakura station and easy to get to all sight seeing spots. Travelled with 4 month baby very accommodating staff made it a pleasure to stay!

Review 79:It was cold outside and it was not well isolated, so you have the warm wind from the heater and the cold wind from outside. Tough to sleep. 75 Euros for a shared bathroom/toilets is too expensive.

Review 80:We liked the staff, very nice, helpful, we really enjoy to talk with them, they gave us a lot of tips.

Review 81:I really liked this place, it's very close to the station and only 20 min on foot to the ocean . Stuff is very friendly , ready to provide you with all the information about the town and sights. The building itself is an old traditional japanese house , so tatami rooms will be perfect for japanese culture lovers.

Review 82:Convenient location - right by the train station. Lovely rooms - smallish but had everything you would want, comfortable bed and good fast wifi. Loved the decoration too.

Review 83:Rooms are small and the whole house is old, but still charming.

Review 84:Staff were ever so obliging, and recommended a really nice casual restaurant that suited me perfectly to sit and eat and drink with locals. That being said, English spoken here is quite basic, so be prepared for that, if it's a problem for you. Location in my opinion is ideal, just around the corner from the station at Kamakura.

Review 85:The room was so small that my friend and I could hardly move freely and pack our belongings. It was difficult to locate the inn at night.

Review 86:Lovely room with artistic painting on the wall. King-size bed was super comfortable. Staff members were very friendly and able to speak fluent English.

Review 87:This is a very small and traditional little place. You may not be looking for that, but I love it because it feels wholesome and friendly.

Review 88:Staff is very polite and friendly. Place has a kind of hostel-type feel to it what with the small spaces and joint bathrooms.

Review 89:A two minute walk from the train station, Villa Sacra is a beautiful traditional Japanese house, decorated with stunning artwork and comfortable furnishings. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the facilities were spotless. It was truly like a home away from home - I'd recommend this property to all my friends and family without hesitation.

Review 90:- not applicable.

Review 91:Simply everything! The interior design is wonderful and the staff is extremely nice and helpful! I recommend this place to any traveler who wants go to Kamakura or the surrounding! We loved it! Thanks to Kuni, the host.

Review 92:a wonderful experience for a young married couple. a bit small for more than one or two, but perfect if you're looking for something traditional to the japanese culture. my wife and i will be going back, definitely.

Review 93:Only two toilets & showers but it's only a small place & there were no queues ever and everything was spotless

Review 94:Location right next to the JR station, walking distance (20mins or so) to main sights & lots of cafés & places to et nearby Really nicely decorated rooms with traditional sliding screens & comfy bed Free tea & coffee Really helpful & lovely staff - recommending restaurants then drawing us a map of how to get there & helping us find an ATM that takes foreign cards by walking us to it. Really impressed!

Review 95:My brother and i stayed here for one night and it was great. Clean, simple but with great eye for detail and the location is awesome, right in the center of Kamakura! Staff was friendly and we could leave our luggage while we went out to check out the town.

Review 96:a bit of noise the first night

Review 97:The beautiful room, in a nice wooden small building. The shared bathrooms were very clean

Review 98:Bedrooms are amazing sanctuaries

Review 99:Friendly and informative staff, Great location. Excellent value for money.

Review 100:The room was too small

Review 101:Excellent stuff, very helpful, extremely friendly

Review 102:Nothing

Review 103:Really cute, felt very welcoming, nice location, clean, had teas and snacks, overall just really great

Review 104:Too noisy and too expensive for a small room on the ground floor with the "balcony door" broken.

Review 105:Great location

Review 107:Romantic japanese ryokan with best service.

Review 108:All good

Review 109:Staff great

Review 110:Very helpful and nice staff. Very cosy and homely rooms and atmosphere.

Review 111:artistic theme of the room

Review 112:Bathroom too small. There was a constant noise from the railway just next door.

Review 113:The people.

Review 114:Paper thin walls, close to railroad crossing

Review 115:Location helpfulness of staff.

Review 116:I love the fact that the location is very convenient to the main streets. This is such a lovely place that has a 'village' feel to it.

Review 117:A bit too austere for a mature couple, more suitable for students or pilgrims.

Review 118:The young people running the hotel were helpful and funny.

Review 119:poor sound insulation in room a bit expensive

Review 120:helpful staff

Review 121:The staff, especially Reiko, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

Review 122:the double bunker bed is dusty

Review 123:Great staff

Review 124:Wi-Fi was slow but not too bad.

Review 125:Lovely staff, we rented bikes to go to the beach and very close to the station.

Review 126:Shared bathroom Difficult to sleep because of lack of silence

Review 127:Very Nice staff. Good position
