Reviews for IZA Kamakura Guest House and Bar

Review 1:Friendly service in addition the 500 yen meals are considering worthy. They were pretty good, it is nice to sit in the living room/bar and meeting other people

Review 2:All was good, I find no bad things

Review 3:They have no kitchen for the people. BUt I want to eat something from the supermarket, so the boiled my potatos and my instant soup. good internet and friendly person

Review 4:Nothing! Our room was small but we didn't hang out there, so it didn't matter.

Review 5:The manager was lovely and very welcoming. Near to Diabutsu and Hasedera, and by the sea. Nice to have a bar w/ cheap dinner and breakfast at hostel.

Review 6:The person stayed next door came back around 5am, so we couldn't sleep for an hour. It would be great if you provide a little note on the door, telling people to keep quiet at night.

Review 7:Good location; near the sea and station

Review 8:the only thing i didn't like was that i had to leave-wish i'd had more time to spend there-next time.

Review 9:perfect location-1 block from a beautiful sandy beach and 2 blocks from the station. delicious breakfast, comfy bed and pillows, very clean. loved everything about the place but best of all, the great staff. they were very friendly and helpful. i'm already planning another trip there-for a longer stay. thank you for everything maki. teresa from nagoya

Review 10:the toilet was only one there , in morning you have to wait , but it's not a problem if you are not in hurry

Review 11:I like the place the hostel at , easy to find , easy to get any place in Kamakura , and it's a bar in 1f , you can easily get any drink in you want, and you can put your luggage after you check in , thats a really nice thing.

Review 12:The room was too small. Not a very quiet place, but good overall.

Review 13:The location of the guesthouse was really good, close to the Great Buddha and Hase-dera.

Review 14:The pillows, they are very flat.

Review 15:I loved how there was free wifi, meals could be added to your tab which they wwre reaaonally priced and delcious. I was glad that i was close to the beach and train station .

Review 16:Bed needs two or three curtains to cover (had to sleep with it half open(, bed needed sheet for cover as it was too hot in summer with comforter, bed LOOKED nice but was rickety and shook whenever someone moved in the bunk.

Review 17:Staff, building decor, cleanliness, breakfast, delicious coffee at drink bar, absolutely the location, loved decor of powder room and little reading light with bed was handy&welcome

Review 18:Food was very simple and it was okey but nothing more than that, nothing special or fancy but I liked that though cuz that gave it that homelike feeling.

Review 19:Lovely atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It feels like ur in someone's home since it's very small and cozy. It's so close to both hase station, the beach, great buddha and the hase tempel.

Review 20:It was quite loud up to 11pm when the bar closes and you can hear everything in your room, beds are hard, washing machine and dryer are quite expensive (500yen for both) When leaving your room you can't lock it so anyone can go in (but there are lockers for valuables)

Review 21:Friendly staff, breakfast western and japanese style (500 yen), amazing location short walks to the temple buddah beach and train station, nice and clean house

Review 22:Close to the sea, the Hasedera and the Great Buddha. Cheap dinner and breakfast in option, a bar at the same location. Friendly staff and people from everywhere to discuss with.

Review 23:Shower on the entrence floor.

Review 24:Very good location by the sea and not far from train station. They make dinner on the place and have a bar, it's really nice.

Review 25:The staff spoke English well, they were very welcoming, I had dinner here and everyone was so friendly. It was very close to the beach, and to hase-dera, and daibutsu, some of the main Kamakura desinations!

Review 26:very little space in the room, guests cannot make their own tea/coffe - you need to order everything at the bar

Review 27:tasty cheap breakfast, delicious coffee!

Review 28:Parking is announced to be 1000 yen but they charge 2000 yen. Breakfast is horrible, even if its cheap for 500 yen. Only one egg and only one slice of bread with plenty of onion and some cabbage. Two sips of instant soup and watered coffee, if you ask for more coffee, 100 extra yen. In that case, you better off going to 7-eleven (1 block away) and your money will be worth it. The diner is also very bad. The staff say that restaurants are far or closed, so you eat there. Don’t. There is no variety at all. For the diner on Saturday, they did the barbecue inside the hostel for many hours. It’s completely crazy, there were smoke everywhere, it was toxic, isn’t that illegal? They will try to charge for whatever they can. Only 2 bathrooms and restrooms, so you might wait a couple of times.

Review 29:Great location, closed to great Bouddha, temples, shops, restaurants and the beach. The staff seems nice?

Review 30:The only minor complaint was that the private room couldn't be locked from the inside, only from the outside. This meant that we had to sleep (among other activities one does in one's room) with the door unlocked. That needs to be rectified. Otherwise, two thumbs up!

Review 31:First of all, when they offer you the optional ¥500 dinner, take it! Surprisingly delicious and filling. The staff were super friendly.

Review 32:Not close to the central station of Kamakura, however not particularly a down side.

Review 33:Very friendly and helpful staff. I had a great time at this hostel and once in a while they also make a little parties at the living room of the hostel. Closest option to visit Kamakura Buddha, if you wake up early in the morning there won't be other tourists around, only you and the buddha.

Review 34:I did not know you had to get towels separately (100Y each) so in the morning I did not have one until a staff member arrived at 0730.

Review 35:This is a backpacker type hostel in a great location. I stayed in the double room which has a shared bathroom and shared shower. This worked out just fine. They offer dinner and breakfast at 500Y each also. There is a bar open from 1700-2300. They do a good job of keeping order and emphasize quiet time after 2300. Cannot beat the lcoation about 200m from Hase Dera and 600m from the Daibutsu.

Review 36:IZA Kamakura offered breakfast of both English and Japanese styles. It was delicious, sizable, and inexpensive. The atmosphere is warm with sweet and helpful staff. The hostel is central to many great sites around this ancient city. A short walk from viewing Mount Fuji. I plan on staying there again in the future. :)

Review 37:The taste of coffee, seriously.

Review 38:I traveled enishima island and kamakura for 2 days and IZA was the accommodation. Loved the place. It was quite smaller than expectation but fun enough to make new friends.

Review 39:The bedroom was very small. It was very noisy when people started to wake up in the mornings. I was woken up at about 7 am.

Review 40:Great location right near to Hase station, the beach and the Buddha. The staff were super friendly, helpful and could speak good English. The vibe was really fun with jazz music at the bar.

Review 41:from 11pm to 6am it was good. The rest of time it has been far too noisy, very hard to catch some sleep. Room is quite small, even for japan.

Review 42:Staff has been great and very helpful

Review 43:Nothing, this was a great place to stay

Review 44:The owner and staff were so welcoming and helpful. They went out of their way to help us with our travel plans in English as we didn't speak Japanese. Great location.

Review 45:the room is very small and not much place if 2 people but then the service, and cleanliness and its prime location for that price is so good that the space constraint does not matter if its a 1 or 2 nights stay as ours was.

Review 46:Everything was fabulous. Its great to have staff like at Iza, they were GENUINELY friendly, helpful and most accommodating. They made us a lovely Miso soup after their diner had closed. we checked in late due to delayed flight They gave us information on how to get to the sightseeing spots which was like a 10 minute walk from the hostel. If we visit Kamakura we will surely stay here again. Value for money。 Thank you. .

Review 47:Only two showers for the entire house, one shower "closes" at 10pm. I had to ask to have the AC turned on (Japan in August!). The remote is kept behind the front desk. The staff turned the unit on very low. It was uncomfortable to sleep. Sitting outside to avoid the noise in the bar, every single person came outside to smoke at least twice, including staff. The location is close to Hase station but very far from anything else. Only two restaurants nearby, nearest konbini is quite a walk. Very close to the beach.

Review 48:The building is a house. The bathrooms are full bathrooms, doily towels, the shower in the back is spacious, huge mirror/sink/vanity. The female dorm was a bit crowded but manageable. The bar downstairs offered comfy seats. Staff was friendly. Yes they charge to store luggage but the charge is still cheaper than a locker at the station.

Review 49:if check out time could be at noon...

Review 50:Most of the staff are young and energetic. They also able to orgainze event occasionally that enhance guests' experience.

Review 51:- sleeping space. it's a bit small but understandable. - air circulation in female dorm room. It was a bit stuffy but, luckily, I opted for the bed under air-conditioner so it's not that bad.

Review 52:- cleanliness; it's the most neat and clean hostel I've ever stayed - staffs are friendly and helpful - location! very closed to train station and even closer to the beach - lovely atmosphere

Review 53:when we got there, we took us a good walk from Hase bus station. If there were some more guide to access from Kamakura or kitakamakura, we would have taken the train to the Hase railroad station which is very near from the inn. If the inn give some more transportation information on its online homepage, we could have planned longer stay. Kamakura and Kitakamakura have a lot to visit and see....

Review 54:Well, the inn was so near to the seashore that we could take a wonderful walk on the seashore looking the sunset into the Pacific Ocean. As it was not high season, we could enjoy solitary morning walk as well. It was near from the temples where Ajisai festival was on. It was great ! The inn was very near from the railroad station so we could get to Kamakura or Hakone easily. The room was really really small , it was the smallest one of my life, but the sheet was clean and cozy, we could get a cocoon sleep. We never forget that room.^^

Review 55:Super friendly, great location, great breakfast

Review 56:Great inexpensive food and welcoming staff.

Review 62:1.The IZA GuestHouse near to HASE station & Seaside! 2. GuestHouse member so Friendly~ 3. GuestHouse is Clean & leisurely & free!

Review 63:It is a bit difficult to find it. Once you find where it is located, all good!

Review 64:The staff was so friendly here. the food they serve every night is both cheap and good tasting. only good memories from this place!!!

Review 65:everything was fine.

Review 66:super staff and location

Review 67:strange smell in the room

Review 68:Friendly staff, just a short walk to the sea

Review 69:Room was very small for the price we paid.

Review 70:Breakfast was very good and a great value

Review 71:Nothing to say, it was just great!

Review 72:Most friendly staff on my trip, a very nica atmosphere, clean, closed to the beach.

Review 73:Check in time is too late. Missing info about the neighbourhood.

Review 74:Close to the station

Review 75:Great location, excellent Saturday night party and entertainment, friendly staff.

Review 76:Everything. It was the best one day I had spent in a long time.

Review 77:beautiful house and nice friendly atmosphere, close to the beach and main attractions, cool staff

Review 78:The twin room is too small, no any facility inside, no even a small table.

Review 79:Location is good. Clean. Wifi works very good.

Review 80:Noisy

Review 81:The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean.

Review 82:Sleep quality depends on neighbors. In my case - poor.

Review 83:Location and staff were very good.

Review 84:at night, when no staff is on duty, then no hot water can be provided! Please solve!

Review 85:_

Review 86:Clean and easy to find place.

Review 87:A bit expensive for a room price in Kyoto. You need to set your own bed. The room is not big enough.

Review 88:Location is brilliant !

Review 89:No lockers

Review 90:Nice homey atmosphere Tiny rooms but comy and clean Close to the brach Easy to getroffen in Touchscreen with others

Review 91:The location is an easy walk to the Great Buddha and the Museum of Literature.

Review 96:The Hotel has good Location, and the staffs are very friend. Dinner in the hotel is very Delicious. It make me feel like at a friend's home.

Review 97:Nothing!

Review 98:Very nice and friendly place. Everything is done by the staff to feel like home.

Review 99:Not bad!

Review 100:My wife didn't like being in a hostel but I didn't mind at all.

Review 101:The atmosphere, the staff and location.

Review 102:Room was really small. Payment ONLY by cash.

Review 103:Stuff very cool and helpful.

Review 104:barely english spoken no credit card accepted quite far from main station

Review 105:staff very friendly

Review 106:Good value. Rent a bike and see the sights.

Review 107:Amazing fun friendly staff best place to stay in Kamakura hands down

Review 108:There was really nothing in the room, only the bed. It would be nice if they had at least a little table to put our things on it, not on the floor...

Review 109:The location is very good, close to the temples we wanted to visit and also close to the station.

Review 110:My room was meant to have a fridge that I would share with one other person but was placed in the other person's room so I had no access to it. I did speak to staff about it and they appologized for it but it was my last afternoon at the hotel so it was not moved.

Review 111:Very easy to find the place. Most staff spoke perfect english , made it easier to me to communicate since my japanese is very limited. Bed had proper bed sheets and pillows. Most value places I have been staying at around Japan have had very cheap bedding and furniture.

Review 112:Noisy, because of the staff! They chat and even shout laughing until late night and in the morning from 6 AM, inside and out in the street, right in front of the guests' rooms. My reservation on Booking.com stated check out from 10 to 12 AM, but they claimed it is a mistake of the web site. I guess the hostal gives its own details when registering to Booking.com, thus it is actually their mistake. Anyhow, they kicked us out by 10, agreeing to keep our luggage until 12, but asking money to keep it for longer! I have never heard something similar! The time of check out is not written anywhere in the hotel, but they have plenty of signs stating the cost to use the washing machine: interestingly, they are not consistent and the written price is different in different rooms. It is anyway difficult to get details from the staff, no one was able to speak English (fortunately I was travelling with a Japanese native speaker). No kitchen facility available, and the shared space consists of three tables used as a bar: quite inconvenient to interact with other guests.

Review 113:Close to train stop Hase, and a short walk from the great Buddha. Clean.

Review 114:The rooms were very real clean. I traveled with my wife and daughter. We rented the quad room that was private (they gave us a key to keep the room locked). We only used three of the four beds (bunk). Cost was Y14,000 per night. They also have 2 dbl private rooms one with 2 twin beds & one with a double bed, the rest of the rooms are rented per person and are communal with a separate girls & boys area. The beds are quite hard, just a couple thin mattresses on wood, however, we have been in Japan now for 10 days and have gotten used to much firmer mattresses, and our daughter found it more comfortable than her own futon in her Tokyo apartment. We had a good night sleep and are having less back problems since sleeping on firmer beds. The guesthouse is a short 5 minute walk from the Hase Station, Two minutes to the beach, 5 minute walk to Good Fellows Hamburgers and 10 minute walk to the Great Buddha - Great location. They have a real nice bar downstairs where everyone gathers after dinner. We really enjoyed meeting other travelers before we went to bed. American or Japanese style breakfast Y500, you let them know a day ahead and pay in advance. Cocktails including beer or wine Y500. Breakfast was toast, eggs and ham. Tasted good. The staff was friendly and spoke a little english. What we think really made this place great was the friendly staff, meeting other travelers and the location.

Review 115:You need to pay if you leave the luggages after noon of the day your are leaving, even if for only an hour. These were not even safely stored. Despite the 11pm curfew people were loudly talking until 12.30.

Review 116:Near the sea and convenient to go to the Great Buddha

Review 117:IZA Kamakura Guest House and Bar has a great location. It`s only minutes to the beach and to several temples and shrines. The staff were helpful and the guest house has a nice atmosphere. I was able to participate in a BBQ when I stayed there. It was a unique experience. I can`t wait to go back!

Review 118:The staff is very helpful and kind. They went out of their way to help me with my travel plans. The location is perfect, Hase in a great little town.

Review 119:1) Internet connection was terrible for the guest upstairs! They need to invest on that since the computer at the front desk seems working pretty quickly. 2) They need a bigger trash can in the bathroom. It overflowed quickly. And there was no trashcan in the bedroom either.

Review 120:I was able to made some friends. Guests seemed very friendly.

Review 121:Small room, but it's Japan, it's to be expected.

Review 122:Wonderful staff and incredibly convenient location. 2 minutes from the train station and 2 minutes from the beach. Plus, you can rent a Kemono for the day! I would absolutely stay here again when visiting Kamakura.

Review 123:Private rooms are a bit small, but thats common in Japan. Can be a bit noisy but you can get earplugs for free from the reception desk. My opinion, just join in the fun in the common room.

Review 124:Incredibly helpful and kind staff members. We have gone the extra mile for us. Thanks again. Lively atmosphere, the common room has a get together feeling that makes everybody talk to each other. Evening meals and breakfast for 500 yen, quite good value for money. Location close to the seaside, the bike rental and clealiness of the place are nice plus. My partner and I will come and stay again if we have the chance !
