Reviews for Grand Hotel Europa Palace

Review 1:The hotel décor was a bit tired in places, and over all would benefit from improved lighting. Very dark around reception area. bar area, general stairs/corridors. A change of lighting would improve the mood of the place entirely. Catered mainly for saga guests. We were the only family in the place, and quite a trek to get to the pool area, down a lift to the cliff base, then back up a set of stairs again with fallen plaster on the floor leading to the stairs. The pool itself was never used the entire time I was there, possibly due to the season, permanently in the shade, water very cold and in need of a general tidy up around the edges due to fallen tree foliage, including soft fruit lying around.

Review 2:Great location, Staff very friendly by the most part, apart from one particular waiter who within our first 1/2 hour at hotel while taking photo's on veranda, insisted that we could only sit there if we bought a drink (Did not know we were guests obviously), same waiter tried to charge me double price for a coffee in bar 3 days later (Check bill when signing a bill against your room!)

Review 3:We were put in an annexe building, old and badly maintained. Elevator too small for two persons with luggage. Stairs to bring up the luggage. Bathroom and especially the shower below standard. Dark and sticky room. There was no hint that we would have to go in the annexe. Unpleasant answers when we commented on this

Review 4:Location is excellent, view fantastic and the main building offers good interior

Review 5:When I booked on Booking.com it did not show up that we would be in the annex of the hotel (rather than the main hotel), I only noticed this when I printed off the confirmation to take with me. Also, we requested a twin room but when we got there it was a double. The staff offered to split the beds but weren't overly accommodating about it.

Review 6:The main hotel is beautiful, couldn't wish for any improvements. Having delicious breakfasts on the terrace was one of the highlights of our holiday. The location of the hotel is perfect; less than a 5 minute walk to the train station for access to Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the bus to Amalfi Coast, and only a 10 minute stroll into Sorrento Centre. There's supermarkets, shops, pizza restaurants and ice-cream parlours all within 5 minute walk too. Would definitely return.

Review 7:Lifts to swimming deck was broken coming back up to hotel, maintenance on some areas to pool area absent. Did not expect this from such a esteemed hotel.

Review 8:Fantastic views, amazing nostalgia. Lovely people.

Review 9:We were in annexe overlooking street, some traffic noise, windows could be soundproofed.

Review 10:Beautiful location, lovely terrace over the sea, especially outside for breakfast.

Review 11:The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel has an old world elegance, views to die for and is in a fabulous location.

Review 12:They gym was a mess and needs improvement. The room hardly had ventilation which made exercising dreadful. We had a room facing the city, and the street outside was very noisy in the morning.

Review 13:Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Great breakfast which you can enjoy from a terrace with a stunning view.

Review 14:Taxi from ferry port charge $20 Euro for 5 minute ride to hotel but it was high up bluff so walking was not option. We took bus down when we left by ferry for amalfi. Breakfast looked like big impressive buffet but nothing was all that good. Room light was very low, needed to open curtains during day to see well. Bath a bit dated for the price.

Review 15:Hotel has a great terrace over looking water on top of the bluff. Was near the central square. Staff spoke English and were professional, no sense of warmth you get from smaller B&B places in southern Italy. Room was good size and clean.

Review 16:I am compelled to write this view as this hotel ruined our stay in Sorrento. We stayed at multiple hotels on a month long family trip to Italy. This stood out as the worst experience of the trip. The 2 junior suites we booked did not at all resemble the pictures on the site. The rooms are dark, old and in desperate need of updating. The hotel has no power points for any devices to be charged and the staff when asked for a solution said the hotel was old and we should write to the owner if we don't like it, there was no hot water available in our bathroom on the second night of stay and the response of the night manager was that the hotel is 3 star and a lack of hot water should be expected, it is the only hotel in Italy which does not provide fresh coffee at breakfast (rather a massive communal urn of mud type substance is provided), they have a ridiculous policy which arbitrarily limits access to the pool and sea deck and the staff member who manages the pool area is the most abusive and rude individual I have ever encountered in my travels. The rooms have thin walls and doors separating them and you can hear everyone from neighboring rooms. When I confronted management about our problems the manageress instead of apologizing attacked me verbally and indicated all guests ever do is moan and no-one ever compliments the hotel. It was an absurdity beyond my wildest expectations. It is a very sad state of affairs as the hotel has huge potential but desperately requires new management and ownership.

Review 17:The hotel is well located and has great views of the Harbour and bay

Review 18:We arrived fairly late, and were then told that the hotel was full for the first night, despite them being aware of our arrival time, and we had to stay in the hotel next door. While the hotel next door turned out to be nice, it was inconvenient and not what we expected, so it started off the holiday on a somewhat sour note! The main feeling of the room was that it was a bit tired (we went for a garden view room in the main building) and could do with some updating, particularly the bathroom, which had an almost useless shower screen resulting in a wet bathroom floor every time. The beds were very hard, along with the pillows, so much so that our ears were numb in the morning! Balconies were all really small, so we couldn't actually sit out on it at all. Not what we expected from the hotel.

Review 19:The location is excellent, really central, and has a fabulous view over the bay of Naples from the terrace and the deck/swimming pool below. The breakfast is decent and daytime reception staff really helpful. Despite all the negative points, we really enjoying our holiday, and Sorrento is a wonderful place, but the hotel just wasn't as special as we expected given the price paid and previous reviews.

Review 20:The rooms need a lot of work and care. Ants in the 3rd floor room. Mould in bathroom. No hot showers at 7am three days in six. Light fittings hanging off the ceiling. Grumpy and lazy staff . Confronted and falsely accused of taking 2 towells at the pool. Great outdoor bar area but took the single barman 20 minties to serve us. Most expensive hotel we stayed at in Italy but not value for money.

Review 21:Location within the town. Great biew from outdoor bar.

Review 22:WIFI was an issue. Had to wear swimming caps (charged) if you wanted to use the pool. For the cost of the hotel if swimming caps were required, they should have been provided

Review 23:Great location. Close to town. Easy walk from the train station

Review 24:Dreadful bed with springs sticking up.No wifi .Some evenings no hot water.Armchairs in lobby old and worn.Lunch time snack menu extremely limited.

Review 25:Fabulous location friendly competent staff good standard of cleanliness. Beautiful terrace. Lovely dining room.

Review 26:ironing service was available but I like to iron my own shirts, most hotels provide you with an iron and ironing board to do this your self

Review 27:the views were stunning, my first trip to Sorrento and will definitely stay at your hotel again

Review 28:dirty sea water, poor choice in the beach bar, bad location in front of the port, noise and stink of exhaust fumes, stink in the old rooms, old plumbing, poor breakfast.

Review 29:very fast room cleaning, nice staff

Review 30:We were delighted with the hotel; it was much grander than we had anticipated. The terraces are beautiful. From them you look across the bay of Naples to Mt. Vesuvious. There is an infinity pool on one of the lower terraces but we went further down to the sea. There was a lovely deck/dock with chaise longues with small sandy areas close to the front and a ladder to go into the sea further down the deck. Once in that water, I did not want to get out! Our room was simple with a juliet balcony facing the town and flowing curtains. There was a small refrigerator in the room, a phone, and free wifi. The shower was fine. The room was clean. The location is great - just a quick walk and you are in the heart of Sorrento, but an equally quick trip back leads you to a peaceful waterfront.

Review 31:The view and the terrace was beautiful, food was excellent especially on the outside terrace. Room was comfortable and pool and swimming area was a real winner. Conveniently located close to town and train station. Very relaxing in such a busy holiday time.

Review 32:The views and terrace areas. The fridge and 2 lamps weren't working, we reported the fault and the repair guy was in our room sorting out the problem instantly. Friendly staff especially Antonella who worked on reception who we already knew from a previous hotel we stayed in last year. The location is great.

Review 33:The room we were given was very old and not clean, it wasn't even in the main building of the hotel. The TV in that room dated back to the first TV invented, and obviously it didn't work. The WiFi wasn't working too. After telling the staff that we will not pay the amount requested for such a room, they moved us at night to a better one that looks more like the room photos we saw while booking.

Review 34:The location is perfect.

Review 35:The wifi was terrible and at times non existent. We do always choose hotels with wifi as we need to be in contact with work each day by email so this was very disappointing.

Review 36:Great Position, staff friendly and we absolutely loved the pool and water side facility.

Review 37:Waiting staff were mostly unfriendly with poor service. Bed was uncomfortable. WiFi had poor reception, lack of sockets, dated furniture and fittings, no bedroom tea/coffee facilities.

Review 38:Location is excellent. Terrace and view were amazing. Private Lido and beach area were good.

Review 39:The beds were un-comfortable. My friends bed was like sleeping on plywood with springs below. There were signs of damp in the bathroom but they were treating it.

Review 40:The location was a stones throw away from the Main square. Hotel complex is beautiful with amazing views of the coast and Vesuvius. Our room was spacious.

Review 41:Breakfast variety wasn't great (but the view from the breakfast terrace is so stunning, it didnt bother me so much. Towels were threadbare. Swimming pool itself was spotless, but the floor area wasnt very clean the one day we sunbathed there. Minimum noise levels if you have a city view, but there are large shutters which block out the noise quite well and its not on a main road. May affect some people but It didnt affect me and I'm a light sleeper. However, none of the above would deter me from returning

Review 42:Location: 5 mins walk to bus/train station, 15 mins walk to port which makes getting to Capri, Pompeii, Amalfi Coast a doddle. Also 5 mins walk to main Tasso Square for all shops, bars and restaurants. Pool/Deck: Plenty of sunbathing areas poolside or deck/boardwalk at sea level, both with snack bars. Views: The hotel is on the cliffs of Sorrento, the stunning views of Vesuvius & Bay of Naples from the expansive terrace were utterly breathtaking. Service: Hotel staff friendly and couldnt have been more helpful

Review 43:Hotel is in slight need of freshening up. Hotel restaurant should be open more regularly. Breakfast could do with some more variety. WiFi was very poor.

Review 44:Our room (Junior Suite) was absolutely amazing with a gorgeous view over the water. The dock was perfect for sunbathing and swimming, not too crowded either. Location was perfect for access to all transportation.

Review 45:although we didn't stay in the annex it looked a little run down compared to the splendour of the main hotel- staff are friendly and unobtrusive

Review 46:Classy hotel in perfect location overlooking the sea- buffer breakfast on a beautiful terrace with a view of the bay of Naples and Vesuvius - awesome - lovely quiet pool plus a separate area with sun loungers with easy access to take a dip in the sea. We were upgraded from an annex room to a room in the main hotel with a sea view - we had a fabulous stay at the Europa place

Review 47:Lift to pool unreliable. We got stuck in it one day, and then it was shut for the remainder of our break. If you have disabled guests, this wil render the pool and sea off limits, which is very poor. Garden view room fairly small and basic, however suite with a sea view much nicer and a large balcony.

Review 48:Quiet hotel, good location, handy for train station (it's 2 mins walk).

Review 49:Buying bottles of water at 2.5 euros a time no water offered that you didn't have to buy

Review 50:The lift to the beach and pool area very good for an older couple lovely staff

Review 51:the beds are uncomfortable and our room did not have a balcony despite our booking saying we did (although we didn't complain as we were so relieved to arrive at the hotel after a long day travelling!). While the hotel is very clean they expect you to wear a swimming cap in the pool. And pay 2 euros for a cap. Thought this was unnecessary and we spent ours days at the jetty instead of the pool to avoid wearing the uncomfortable caps every time we wanted to cool down in the water!

Review 52:Location is excellent, so close to everything you need. The breakfast was lovely great choice and lovely setting on the terrace.

Review 53:The views from this hotel were amazing! The location is a couple blocks from the train station and to the main square in Sorrento. We had two rooms and they put our teenagers next to our room.

Review 54:Pretty much everything else. On arrival told there was a problem withthe room and spent the night in the Royal next door which was ok as roomwas good standard. On going back to this hotel we were shown to our roomand omg what a dump of a room!! Looked like it hadn't been touchedfor 40-50 years!! Absolutely nothing like the pictures you are shown, believe me. To use the swimming pool you are told to use a swimming cap, they don't reply to emails to request extended check out time, andbreakfast is mediocre at best. On checking out, beware that they do nothave a secure room for your luggage so it is left in the reception area.We made it very clear that we would not stay in that room, so eventuallyafter a bit of a stand-off we were upgraded to a suite, which wasbetter, but beware, unless you are pretty slim you will struggle in theshower cubicle, and I'm not what you would call exactly overweight.Extremely poor quality for the price, so my advice is to avoid at allcosts......

Review 55:Close to the centre.

Review 56:The only criticism I have is that the shower cubicle/tray in our room in the annex was very small - this could easily be replaced with a larger one as the shower itself was fine

Review 57:Stayed on a bed and breakfast basis so enjoyed the freedom to eat in the numerous excellent restaurants in Sorrento. Found hotel's facilities perfect and would return.

Review 58:Service awful, get your own coffee at breakfast, tinned fruit ! Service on deck and around pool awful, tunnel leading to lift awful, pool area in need of attention. Swim cap in pool not for us thanks.

Review 59:Our room was excellent a huge junior suite at reasonable money for the Amalfi Coast, probably the best view I've ever seen off a hotel balcony.

Review 60:Dinner was a big disappointment, despite the lovely dining room. Service was perfunctory and totally disinterested. No offer of a wine list before stopping by to take our order. It appeared they catered to tour groups whose expectations perhaps were lower (or for whom they had less respect). Meal was overpriced, and the food little more than average banquet fare.

Review 61:Great location, with a beautiful terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples. Public areas nicely restored. Got a last minute deal, so hotel room was a good value, but suspect not always the case. Front desk was very accommodating.

Review 62:The gardens and swimming pool looking over Vesuvius are amazing. friendly and helpful staff, all speak English. Convenient location near centre of Sorrento.

Review 63:Building is old (building opposite reception) and in need of serious renovating. Bathroom very old with SMALLEST shower cubicle... No room for 6"3 husband to move in!

Review 64:Location 10mins from Piazzo Tasso Clean and large room Plenty of choice at breakfast

Review 65:The lifeguards were a bit serious and not very friendly. On checkout a drink from the bar was added to our bill and when we said it wasn't ours we had to wait for 15 mins while the night staff went through loads of papers like he didn't believe us! He did apologise after however

Review 66:On check in we received excellent service bring greeted personally and shown to our room. The room in the annex was clean and traditional. The pool is lovely but take a swim cap! It's salt water pool which I wasn't keen on. It's a two minute walk from the station and bus terminal where the airport bus stops. And a couple more minutes to the main square. Breakfast was lovely but the bar snacks are expensive. We ate out and there's loads of choice at reasonable prices.

Review 67:There was no air conditioning in our room with temperatures of 85 in daytime and 20 at night. No one was interested when we complained:they merely said "tomorrow" or "out of season" Not good enough for a hotel this big. We wouldn't go back.

Review 68:Location. Cleanliness. Bed. Terrace. Breakfast.

Review 69:This hotel harks back to a bygone era were Kings and Princes entertained guests in there summer palaces. The service was great, our bartender kept us supplied in the freshest and tastiest olives we have ever tasted. The room with terrace overlooking the Gulf of Naples with the view of Mt. Vesuvius was worth the upgrade. The hotel is a short walk to the town center and train / bus station.

Review 70:Restaurant staff and front end staff unprofessional and in friendly. Nightstand to fat from bed I could not reach with out getting out of bed to get glasses or put book down for evening.

Review 71:View

Review 72:pool area closed, guests should be warned of this when booking ?

Review 73:a hark back to the Dolce Vita era with marble hallways and floors, staff very friendly and helpful, terraces and sea-views outstanding !

Review 74:The shower was not impressive but this was a tiny defect in our fantastic experience at this hotel.

Review 75:The service, the stunning view, the beautiful rooms all contributed to our magical stay in Sorrento. I highly recommend a room with a terrace/view. It was worth the additional money.

Review 76:Not so grand accommodations in the annex (cheaper but still expensive rates for a very small room) AC not working even though it was very warm still in October Not allowed to enjoy the back view unless you're paying for drinks there

Review 77:Central location Spectacular view if the bay and Vesuvius Good breakfast selection The main building is grand inside Helpful and friendly staff

Review 78:mosquitoes

Review 79:this is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in and I would love to go back one day to once again experience the breath taking position and views this hotel affords, I also enjoyed the lovely breakfast out on the balcony watching the mist lift in the early morning sunshine across the bay to naples

Review 80:I think the policy of bumping people to make way for weddings is a disgrace; it lacks integrity and causes great distress. How can you book a room nine months in advance and still not get it?Booking .com should look into this policy as we feel we will not be able to book with any confidence again.

Review 81:We didn't like anything about this hotel, as we didn't actually get to stay here.Hotel We booked in Jan for special anniversary in Sept, but on arrival were told we had been bumped to make way for a wedding. We were understandable angry and upset . We were allocated a room in the Hotel Royal, next door, not a sister Hotel as we were told , they told us they were doing us a favour letting us stay!.Although a nice alternative , it was not the Hotel we had so carefully chosen.

Review 82:Quality of pillow needs to be improved.

Review 83:The view makes up for any possible dislikes. Having breakfast outside on the balcony each morning was a treat. Swimming facilities are brilliant.

Review 84:Nothing, everything was wonderful!

Review 85:We booked a sea view room and wow....did we ever get one! Spectacular! Room was very large even by North American standards. Great deck with lounge chairs and towels provided. Breakfast was good with lots of choice and a beautiful outdoor terrace to eat it on. Well located with 5 minute walk from train station. No complaints!

Review 86:Tiny, low budget room. Thought the Annex would be a much better room but even the toiletries are not the same quality as the main hotel. When we tried to upgrade, even at a cost, they kept reminding us that we got this at a " non-refundable" price and it was not possible. We felt stuck in a very substandard room. Hotel itself is past it's prime but this was absolutely bad!

Review 87:Location, facilities.

Review 88:the breakfast was not really the quality expected although there was a varied choice. I found the fact that there were notices stating that no food or drink could be brought into the hotel grounds poor. A guest was actually told off for eating crisps on the decking area. Poor facilities for getting drinks/food in pool/decking area. The decor in places is tired. feel the hotel is trying to be something more than it is, there is something lacking almost like they have forgot that people are there to holiday!

Review 89:outstanding views both from hotel and surrounding area. Had sea view room which provided an amazing outlook. Room was very large. in the Annex. Quiet area and easy to get to centre and buses/trains within minutes walk across small square

Review 90:Just after twelve on the first night, I was awakened by a wedding that got out of hand below, but the police weren't called for an hour. I put in a complaint the next day, expecting an explanation, but three days later asked the receptionist why I had not had a response. The message I got back was that the manager had been too busy to respond, and that why the police had not been called sooner was problems with the way the police operate!

Review 91:Hotel near buses and train station and with a short walk into town. Hotel situated in front of the sea, with, down below, a swimming pool and a pontoon with sunbeds and a beach bar, Another external bar with the same view, and similarly the open breakfast area and dining room all with the fantastic view. We liked it so much that we extended twice, to six days in all.

Review 92:The room was good but the beds and pillows need an urgent upgrade, apart from that no other complaints.

Review 93:Fantastic value for money, lovely breakfast with amazing views,

Review 94:There are actually two buildings to this hotel. The main one which is Luxury and the second one which is more like a 3 star hotel. SMALLEST SHOWER EVER. It was hard to take a shower since it was so small. So if you book for the lower rate (which is still high) you will probably get that room. Check before you book!

Review 95:The sea view balcony. The breakfast and the design of the room. Close the the marina to take ferry to Capri. The service was good.

Review 96:The attention to details was not there. Be it on the services/amenities side or interiors side. There was no ironing board and iron in the room like most 4 and 5 star hotels do nowadays. And the housekeeping pressing service was expensive and only available until 5 pm! As for interiors, the hotel rooms can use a few modern touches such as having rugs on the cold ceramic floors! Update the colors and perhaps a few decoration items too..The room just felt a bit shabby and dated.

Review 97:Reception area is dark. Poor choice at breakfast. Salads at dinner very unexciting. Restaurant staff not very friendly- made no effort to get to know us and we stayed 6 nights. No privacy in our room as we were on the ground floor and had to keep curtains and shutters closed. Not a city view room- we were looking at a high wall. No tea or coffee pot- ridiculous having to go back to make second cup of coffee. Tinned fruit for breakfast and horrible orange juice. People from outside of hotel coming in for sunset and spoiling it every night by standing in front of us- even though the two terrace waiters tried very hard to get rid of them, this is the greatest reason why I would question my choice of hotel again.

Review 98:Location is excellent. Room was spacious. Views are lovely. Reception staff very helpful. Terrace dining is perfect. Beach area very clean. Towels in bedrooms replaced every day and extra towels every night.

Review 99:Bugs in the bathroom and also when I opened my sheets at night. Returned home to bites on legs. It was too late to complain or be moved as it was 2am and I was up at 6

Review 100:Staff were very helpful, hotel is well located close to the square, outside bar has a great view over the coasts

Review 101:The best hotel I have ever been. Location is perfect, in front of Circumvesuviana station and near the port and piazza Tasso. Staff is really attentive and the service is perfect. Perfect place to spend the vacation.

Review 102:The location was fantastic with views of Vesuvius from our room. Delicious breakfast with great choices, especially the warm sweet croissants with lemon marmalade - yummy. Staff are very helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 103:Loved the location, less than 5 mins walking distance from the train station. The views were fantastic - of the ocean, Mt. Vesuvias! our girls loved swimming in the pool & the ocean! the breakfast was great! The staff was very friendly & helpful. Walking distance to all piazzas & restaurant. We'll definitely come back here again!

Review 104:Any city facing room is extremely loud in the early morning due to its proximity to the bus terminal and general traffic

Review 105:Nothing!

Review 106:All !!!! The people from the front Desk (check in and check out) perfect! So kind!

Review 107:Slightly noisy air conditioning.

Review 108:The location, the decor, the staff, the wonderfull views, just wish we were back there.

Review 109:the bed!

Review 110:The view!

Review 111:Gorgeous!

Review 112:Swimming off the jetty

Review 113:N.a

Review 114:Beds very comfy, breakfast good, great location

Review 115:Room was small, bathroom was also small with small shower

Review 116:Hotel views pool and access to sea breakfast and location

Review 117:The private beach was beautiful

Review 118:The cockroach in the bathroom

Review 119:The view from the breakfast terrace

Review 120:Lift and tunnel to swimming pool a little daunting. I did not feel comfortable being on my own there.

Review 121:solarium and bath, location and view,

Review 122:Bathrooms need urgent renovation.

Review 123:Location close to the sea. Sun beds. Terasse overlooking the sea. Very central. Nice and helpful staff.

Review 124:Location Views

Review 125:Location was very good, pool and swimming availability excellent. Rooms in need of upgrade otherwise comfortable

Review 126:Shower in ensuite was very small

Review 127:Good location, nice pool

Review 128:No wifi the whole time we were there

Review 129:Very poor internet! Almost not available. Poor breakfast,

Review 130:The view was great.
