Reviews for Kakiya Ryokan

Review 1:nobody at the reception and not speaking English. besides my efforts to communicate in Japanese, they couldn't explain how the machine for tea was working. Many amenities missing ( heating carpet missing, no mirror in the room, no toilet slippers,..) so that the confort wasn't so good.. the japanese bath were cold and not so clean. definitely overpriced for the service and we had to prepare our futon ourselves..

Review 2:good location near Enoshima island, good restaurant !

Review 3:Quite expensive, but most of the accommodations in Kamakura seem the same. Better tea station in the room (with sugar and black tea) would be nice.

Review 4:Very helpful owners, big room. Good breakfast in the traditional cafe across the street.

Review 5:Only one seat toilet per floor.

Review 6:It's near to a tram station that connects to major train stations as well as major sight seeing sites. Very quiet street. Just a few minutes away, you can walk to the beach and a small island (via a bridge). Beautiful sunset. Breakfast and dinner were good.

Review 7:Noise tended to filter through to the rooms. This may be a problem if you are situated next to the stairwell.

Review 8:We had a very enjoyable stay at Kakiya Ryokan. The room was clean and more spacious than we had anticipated. Kakiya Ryokan is located very close to the the tram service, making it easy to travel to Kamakura station and Hase station (Daibutsu and Hasedera Temple). Do avail yourself of the traditional breakfasts and dinners served at the inn - very generous portions and beautifully grilled fish.

Review 9:For the prices that you often get in japan it was pretty cheap! Enoshima is short walk away and kamakura a few stations away. Id recommend getting dinner out tho! there is a bunch of jap-food restaurants in enoshima, there is also Bic bar on za coast for more western stuff

Review 10:This place is not luxurious. A little difficult to find as front sign is only in Japanese ; it is in front of the supermarket on the main tram line.

Review 11:Room was good, clean The hotel has a public bathroom with onsen (you can lock the door) Dinner was huge and really excellent. The family working in the restaurant was friendly.

Review 12:Though it was no problem for me, I only met the woman running things once and never saw anyone else again. I was the only one staying there. It wasn't a problem, but had I needed something I am not sure what I would have done.

Review 13:It would not be worth it to stay here without choosing the dinner and breakfast options: some very high quality seafood with the freshest ingredients and prepared and served by very nice people. The value in Kakiya lies in the food. The bath is hot and nice. It's close to the beach, Enoshima and even walking distance back towards Kamakura if you should want to.

Review 14:10 mins walk from Koshigoe, which is 8 stops from Kamakura Tatami, so sleeping on the floor. Quality/Price so so la la...

Review 15:Quiet. WC, washroom & shower/bath separate. In spite of train nearby, not noisy.

Review 16:The hotel itself has no 'en suite bathrooms. If you want a shower, you have to shower in the communal bathroom- fine if there are only a few people stopping there but otherwise it would be inconvenient. It is quite a long way from the JR station in Kamakura although the private tram trip was fun. Poor value for money.

Review 17:We opted for the half board deal (breakfast and dinner). There was no restaurant in the hotel itself and we had to cross over the road to the adjacent restaurant. However, the quality and quantity of the Japanese style meals offered there, predominantly seafood, exceeded our expectations and in some way offset the relatively poor value of the hotel itself. Handy convenience stores and transport.

Review 18:Typical traditional Japanese hotel. Great view: facing Main Street in Kamakura, can watch the Enoshima railed bus passing by right in front of you. Evening walk is recommended - plenty of interesting shops around. Tidy (though not luxurious) room.

Review 19:good location and nice employee

Review 20:The location is perfect, very close to the train station Koshigoe and also not far from Enoshima.

Review 21:The hostel is great and breakfast is even better. A plenty of room space.

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:Lovely ryokan between Kamakura , acultural site and Anochima ,a small fisgerman island. Great location to explore real japan.

Review 24:Picturesque traditional rooms and veeery comfortable blankett, small but nice onsen, nice brekfast too

Review 25:None

Review 26:Nice staff. Very good japanese style breakfast. Supermarket just in front.

Review 27:The breakfast is every good, the location and is excellent. I think is a little pricy for the condition of this kind of hotel.

Review 28:No English name on hotel, but people have helped.

Review 29:Near the railway station, Enoshima, beach, supermarket.

Review 30:room facilities and hot spring

Review 31:Very thin futon!

Review 32:Convenient, clean, quiet. Nice restaurant across the road.

Review 33:No breakfast provided in spite of more expensive rate.

Review 34:Short walk to beach and all its commercial facilities.

Review 35:It is good value for money and the meals at their restaurant were fantastic. Will stay longer next trip.

Review 36:Nothing negative.

Review 37:Well located for the city of Kamakura. Excellent facilities.

Review 38:spring bath

Review 39:There is always none in the receptionist

Review 40:Close to supermarket, KFC and Yoshinoya

Review 41:Near train station. Wifi. Japanese breakfast. Ocean 5 min. Japanese ryokan. Japanese sauna was great!!!!

Review 42:nothing

Review 43:Service, situation not far from the beach, good service

Review 44:This place is pretty basic. Not convenient to town but convenient to train. The futon mats were quite thin and luckily after the first night we noticed additional mats in the closet and piled them up so we could sleep. We have stayed in other Japan style rooms that were much more comfortable. The bathrooms were shared and not that clean or nice. We didn't find many restaurants in the neighborhood and no place to get coffee in the morning. I would recommend staying in Kamakura if you can.

Review 45:The hotel name was written in Japanese even message noted at reception. I really had difficulties for check in as no staff was at the front area.

Review 46:Cleanliness

Review 47:This is ideal place if you want authentic Japanese stile accomodation in the heart of a European stile water recreation town. Plus the impressive Temple area on nextdoor Enoshima Island. Everything on walking distance.

Review 48:Nothing comes to mind

Review 49:I had stayed at hotels near the train terminal, so when I had anopportunity to attend a ryokan I was delighted. My room was atraditional tatami room with shoji screen windows. Very clean, andmodern, I loved it. The inn is close to the beach and to the localtrain, a beautiful location. Across the street we enjoyed thetraditional Japanese food, delicious rice, sea food, tempura, whateveryou want. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, service people werefriendly and attentive. There is also a wonderful Japanese bath in thehotel, I love to soak in a hot tub.

Review 50:The boss can speak english, but the other staff speaks limited english. small TV but I only watched online movies by ipad using wifi. Can hear the train, but since the train doesnt run at late night so sleeping is okay.

Review 51:We extended 1 day stay here because it's very good. Very clean, peaceful, and with elegant decorations. room is bright and comfortable. Excellent location, very easy to find. The subway station, the beach, shops, bike rental place are all within 3 min walk. Good wifi, I watched online movies every night without any problem. Mineral water taste good(provided on the first floor). The other ryokan/hostel have only tap water provided and I felt like drinking from public swimming pool. Kakiya's water is good. The restaurant across the street seems historical and serves fresh and delicious sea food.

Review 52:The personel was only Japanese-speaking, smoking was allowed in rooms (bad smell) and the restaurant part was on the other side of the road (!).

Review 53:Close to the station, a Japanese style and in a beautiful location.

Review 54:Easy to get to and very comfortable- the breakfast was amazing!!! And the hot bath was very relaxing!!

Review 55:walking to the island, good views, just a nice little town

Review 56:kindness of host comfort of bedroom ( real tatami experience ) close to the beach and trolley station ( great for visiting temples )

Review 57:ryokan in name only: i.e., tatami mats on the floor. really just a room without chairs in a house. No charm. No service.

Review 58:N/A

Review 59:The owner is very nice.

Review 60:Nice ryokan with convenient location.
