Reviews for Guest House Kamejikan

Review 1:A really cool restored ryokan with a really nice atmosphere. Staff was friendly and the open kitchen area was a great place to hang out, make some coffee, and relax for a while. The room was very basic with tatami mats and futons, and the common shower could of been cleaner. But staying here was a experience that felt so authentically Japanese, would certainly stay again.

Review 2:Breakfast was disappointing. Car traffic noise. No food or drinks for sale although there is a bar/kitchen. No cooking possibility. Price was a little high.

Review 3:Cute traditional house. Cozy common space. Relaxing atmosphere. Owner very friendly and helpful. Very close to Kamakura beach.

Review 4:I went there from nyc so when I got to the hostel I was a zombie. Wearrived at 5 pm and I was desperate to get some sleep. The futon wasalright. Not extremely comfortable but was decent. But our room was nextto the 6-bed shared room and I could literally hear the peoplebreathing!!! Plus the staff was not helpful at all. I asked them whetherbreakfast was included and they went to check but never came back! Thebottom line is, they say that the soundproof situation is not perfect ontheir website, and that is a huge understatement!! Will never go backagain. Don't go there if you want a good night of sleep especiallyif you're still fighting jet lag!

Review 5:The staffs are nice and the environment is very clean!! and the location is good, there aresome restaurants nearby and are delicious!! The beach is just in 5mins of walking!!

Review 6:The staff is lovely, they helped me so much with everything. Lovely people staying and a very cozy spot! Loved it! I'd defenetely come back there if I have a chance some time! :)

Review 7:low ceilings ( but is suppose that comes with the old style)

Review 8:Old style wooden house with sliding partitions. Updated to be sufficient for modern experience

Review 9:No laundry facilities (although I didn't ask)

Review 10:Atmosphere and mood was very hip and welcoming. Breakfast was great, and the sleeping conditions were cozy and I really enjoyed going to sleep.

Review 11:It's an 80-year-old Japanese style house, don't get surprised when you hear people next door snore.

Review 12:It's a bit far from (20 mins walk) Kamakura town center and also different direction to major tourist attractions, but I still strongly recommend it for the warm and friendly staffs and beautiful building.

Review 13:Privacy is limited. While this is normal in a traditional Japanese dwelling other guests seemed to make no allowances and were quite noisy. Overall Kamejikan seems very expensive compared with similar places we have stayed at where we found better facilities at a lower price.

Review 14:Kamejikan is well located if you are spending time at the beach and Enoshima but is not so convenient for visiting the temples in the northern parts of the city. The building is handsome and facilities were reasonable. We had an excellent soba meal at a nearby restaurant.

Review 15:This hostel is like a 5min watch from a freaken gorgeous beach. Ichecked in and than spent the whoke evening watching the waves. Hoa cafe(just down the street) has really yummy coffee and donuts, you can siton the porch and look out at the ocean. What is better than that??? Imean really, can life get better???The hostel is owned by a sweet young couple. They are both very earthy, creative and have traveled extensively. We actually stayed at many of the same hostels in Mexico--so it was fun to share stories! I ordered the breakfast which was lovely: toast, eggs, salad and an amazing pumpkin soup. You could taste how fresh the ingrediants were and that it was made with love. Real homecooking. There were no other guests in the dorm the night I stayed there, so it was very quiet and peaceful. I suppose this is rare. The hosue itself is beautiful with tatami and soji screens. The toilet is traditional, which means you have to squat. If you are not use to this, you should just have a light spirit about it--its actually much better for your health to use a squat toilet! They have bicycles to rent for only 500 yen a day! I rented a cute lil rusted blue bike (ocean=rust, if you have ever lived closed to the beach you understand this) and road all the way to Enoshima along the water. It was fantastic! Kamejikan is a wonderful place.

Review 16:Only one bathroom and one western style toilet for all the guests. Walls made of paper, so you can hear your neighbours snoring. We didn't like the breakfast as well - cold eggs, toasts with butter and honey and a salad made of something that looked like many kinds of cold potatoes.

Review 17:The staff was nice and helpful. The hostel is close to the ocean (5 minute walk). Good Wi-Fi connection. Nice atmosphere and an opportunity to enjoy the Japanese style of accommodation.

Review 18:compulsory closing time of the hostel in the afternoon.

Review 19:helpfulness of host, we needed a place to stay and they made a number of calls for us. good english. availability of breakfast.

Review 20:Very close to the beach, and located in a silent residential area. Although it is not too convenient to take the electronic train (need to walk about 20 minutes I think), but the bus stop is almost in front the hostel. staffs there are friendly and good English speaking.

Review 21:Room was very small for four people and if people were talking in the common area you could hear it throughout the building. Definitely still enjoyable for us but your mileage may vary.

Review 22:Gorgeous building - felt like a home. Very friendly staff, delicious breakfast, great location near the beach.

Review 23:Good breakfast, quiet and peace place, near beautiful beach!

Review 24:Bed wasn't so great

Review 25:Staff and guesthouse decoration

Review 26:Its shared, beds are futon style which is what was expected.

Review 27:Clean, host was very helpful. Not too hard to find as other places can be in Japan.

Review 28:The staff was very helpful.

Review 29:The 11pm curfew was a bit annoying but fair enough as the noise really travels throughout the guesthouse. Not the best place to stay if you want to experience the nightlife of Kamakura!

Review 30:Very friendly English speaking staff. Only a 3 minute walk to the beach. Good to experience a more traditional Japanese style form of accommodation.

Review 31:Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. They looked after our luggage after we checked out and we hired bikes form them. Gave good advice on where to eat and what to see in the area. We stayed in the private room and it was large, clean and very comfortable. We will stay here again in the future.

Review 32:Beautiful place, great common area to meet people, cheap, great breakfast, amazing staff. That we can buy drinks and have them in the common area is also very nice. Would have stayed there much longer if I could.

Review 33:The first thing we heard after coming in was number of rules what you can do or can't do in your room, so we felt a little bit uncomfortable. Also we couldn't sign the papers before the check in, so we especially had to go back twice. It kind of ruined our daily plan. I've been travelling around here and there, but it was the first time this happened. I used to get everything done in the morning and just received the keys before the closing time, so it surprised me.

Review 34:Veeery clean and very nice room :)

Review 35:It wasn't a problem at all for me, but be aware that Kamejikan has walls which are very thin. Consideration for other guests is necessary while staying there.

Review 36:The calm atmosphere, the helpful staff, the beauty of the house, it all made it an experience I remember fondly. We stayed for 3 nights and felt at home there. I also liked the tasty soup for breakfast.

Review 37:The twin room is between the two bathrooms and was noisy in the evening with other quests using the facilities. The tatami mat was also very hard.

Review 38:Reasonably easy to find. Close to the beach. Good facilities including free tea.

Review 39:You have to make up your own beds at night. The futons are on the thin side. Because our room was right next to the communal dining/relaxing room and there was only rice paper walls, it was both bright and potentially loud.

Review 40:This was a pleasant Japanese guest house experience at low cost for a family. The breakfast was very worth paying extra for, as it was tasty and there is not much else nearby as an option.

Review 41:A good bit out from the train station. Private rooms are quite small. Bathroom facilities are pretty poor.

Review 42:Good spot in Kamakura if you want to be close to the beach. Traditional Japanese house.

Review 43:The Kamejikan is not suitable for small children (the indicated agelimit of 6 years is definitely reasonable) as the thin walls easily getdamaged and noise is easily transferred through out the house thelocation is a outside the main tourist spots of Kamakura

Review 44:The Kamejikan is a nice house with integrated bar including library. Theoverall atmosphere inside the house is very relaxing, eco-friendly suchas separate trash bins

Review 45:Safety box was with the staff so I had to ask them every time I wantedto access my valuables. Typical hostel/shared accommodations, Islept poorly with a room full of strangers and bed is on hard floor.

Review 46:Bike rentals made getting around very easy. Hotel is very near to busstop, easily accessible from main station beach is nearby and has greatatmosphere Hostel was clean and had good ambiance, nice decorations, beach vibe, breakfast was filling and healthy. Excellent value for moneyand a classy budget hostel.

Review 47:Nothing, really! It was great.

Review 48:The staff were incredibly friendly and kind - I accidentally arrived aday early and they immediately made space for me in the dormitory area.Always a nice environment and helpful with directions.

Review 49:I wish the checkout time was a little bit later, since there is only 1 shower it was difficult to be ready to leave by 10 am. The room is not very private or soundproof so I felt a little uncomfortable.

Review 50:I was really impressed by the complimentary tea and coffee and how beautiful and charming the seating area was. The room was simple and comfortable.

Review 51:Arriving to a list of rules and regs including not eating or drinking in room (we'd booked the double) These should be made clear on website, not when you get there. No tea or coffee during the day at weekends due to café run there- seemed expected to vacate during this time. Other hotels in Japan happy for you to eat in- many providing microwaves- surprised as backpackers this was not made easy here. Being asked to buy my own milk and bring in for coffee! Being asked to strip bed on the last day (not a problem, but at 9,000yen a night for the room?)

Review 52:Traditional room. Well travelled owner with interesting insight into Japan and its culture.

Review 53:Over priced for 9000 you get a small room with nothing in it other than a heater. No tv no fridge. There is just one shared shower for the guest house and two toilets. Very poor value for money, the most I paid on the trip and by far the worst. Even though this is a family place they would not eat me have the room till 3pm, did look after my bag but was perfectly happy to put me back out into the rain.

Review 54:Location was ok

Review 55:The staff was very nice, the place had an nice feel to it, I liked thedining room area and it was really easy to get to 'cause there'sa bus that drops you off just 5 meters from it. They have a computerwith internet in the common area, which was very convenient.

Review 56:Unfortunatley we came when it was very cold outside and it was difficult to get warm.

Review 57:Wonderful and helpfull staff in many ways. Nice and traditional house. Very friendly. Close to everything both the sea, heritage, city ...

Review 58:The rooms were so close you could hear the people in the next room very clearly. The bathroom (there was only one for approx 10-12 guests) was cold and it was winter.

Review 59:The home spun and simple nature of the place. The breakfast was simple and homemade. Great location - right near the beach and we walked all around Kamakura from there. Be great in summer.

Review 60:Small rooms but still ok.

Review 61:The owner speaks very good english and helped us with ecerything.

Review 62:had to arrange our beds on our own. remote place (appr. 20-30 min walk from JR Kamakura).

Review 63:Value for money. Clean, small ryokan.

Review 64:Near the beach, not that far walking from the station and easy to go by bus It's really a good place to rest.

Review 65:Need to order breakfast the day before

Review 66:Staff were very helpful when I had some problems unrelated to the guest house

Review 67:Nice & friendly owners! The atmosphere is super cozy! Great conversation with the owner in which I learned a lot. Thank you^^

Review 68:The staff was very kind and helpful. The facilities were extremely clean and comfortable. I would come back and enjoy my stay there! :)

Review 69:really nice place and good staff !! and near the beach ! enjoy ! =)

Review 70:Japanese style hotel very nice experience and a must do if you are going to Japan

Review 71:bit of a walk from town centre

Review 72:welcoming and relaxed clean and beautiful roms

Review 73:Little bit cluttered, noisy

Review 74:Location, staff, great part of town

Review 75:Nice and friendly staff, charming converted old house. beach side location.

Review 76:Very close to the beach. Bus stop is 50m from the hotel. Very authentic experience. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 77:Nothing.

Review 78:I have only stayed one day, but this is a guesthouse and it is budget friendly, the owner is also friendly and speaks english.

Review 79:Very noisy, hard to sleep, v.overpriced

Review 80:Good variety of tea, clean sheets, very traditional design,

Review 81:Charging $1 for a towel

Review 82:I loved the building and feel of japan.

Review 83:That we could hear people from the other rooms, especially aheavy snorer

Review 84:The traditional japanese style room with tatami

Review 85:Beautifully designed guest house, friendly staff. Located in aresidential area.

Review 86:That it was very Japanese

Review 87:Shower facilities
