Reviews for Kamakura Guest House
Review 1:The place was very clean, nicely decorated. The staff kind and friendly. It is quite well located. Definitely would go again on my next trip to Kamakura.
Review 2:As soon as we arrived, we were invited to try a typical Kamakura dish, prepared by one of the girls working at the hostel. We were also able to rent some bikes to drive around town. Important sights and train stations are all within 10-15 minutes from the hostel. My favorite part was the traditional Japanese bedroom!
Review 3:It's a long way from the main part of kamakura. The directions were not too clear so we had to take a taxi from kamakura station.
Review 4:Very clean. Nice style of place.
Review 5:Far from Kamakura JR station - better to use monorail however JR pass holders should pay extra for that. Far from the sightseeing objects.
Review 6:Great friendly staff! Fantastic common place with traditional fireplace and kotatsu table.
Review 7:Great hostel. The staff is vert friendly and helpful. If You want to have a genuine japanese experience You should definitely go this guest house. Very clean !
Review 8:There is only one shower room.
Review 9:Staffs were friendly and accommodating. The guesthouse gives one a homely feel and clean. It is close to a supermarket and there are nice restaurants nearby.
Review 10:Very friendly staff. Traditional Japanese style. Japanese students mostly. Eager to talk and share food. I had two very good nights here in the cozy common room.
Review 11:There is only one shower room, and many can be kept waiting for their turn to use the shower. However, I have feedback this to the staff and was told they are looking into adding one more shower in future. Actually the current shower room has enough space to be partitioned into 2 shower rooms if space is an issue. Lights out is at 10pm in the dorm, which I feel might be too early as since we need to queue in line to shower, we won't have much time to do our personal stuff (eg travel research or packing) after dinner and shower. Although the common area lights out is midnight, some might prefer to do their personal matters in their dormitory area. I had to use my own torch for research reading after 10pm. I understand that other guests might need to rest, but I think 11pm might be a better time? Or maybe the hostel can gather feedback about the timing? It's still quite warm in September and the hostel has a policy to only switch on the aircon at 10pm. I arrived first day in the hot afternoon and was told that the aircon couldn't be on until scheduled time. I'm alright with not having aircon to save energy but maybe a fan can be provided in each dorm so that when it's very hot, especially in the afternoon, the guest can use the fan?
Review 12:I like the quiet environment. The staff are friendly and helpful. When you arrived, they would first show you around the place and explain the rules of the hostel. They will also help you with the questions on how to move around the area. They are also open to hearing feedback about my comment that one shower room is insufficient and they said that there are plans to add another shower room in future.
Review 13:The guest house is Japanese-styled, so I can enjoy the feeling of traveling Japan! Also there are very kind staffs who helped me to stay in the best condition. Also, you can mingle with other people who is tourists or local neighbors at the bar located in the basement.
Review 14:El staff es absolutamente encantador. Todo facilidades! Buchi is the best!! Es un poco complicado de llegar pero es un magnifico sitio para estar un par de noches y desconectar del bullicio de Tokyo. Y la playa a 10 min en bici
Review 15:a little bit far from the centre but still convenient to reach various train station.
Review 16:wonderful place to stay! traditional, clean, heartwarming atmosphere, lovely staff. conbini is close. ive been to many hostels in japan, this was the best!
Review 17:The value for money is not that good as the hostel is far from main attractions and the station so one spends quite a bit on buses. Not very relevant for short stays though and you can rent a bike as well. Also if you have an early plane, the first bus to the station is only at 6am.
Review 18:Wonderful staff, very friendly, helpful and taking good care of guests' comfort and sleep quality (lights are switched off at 10pm and not kept on the whole night like in many big hostels) beautiful old Japanese house, real kitchen, laundry, good wi-fi, friendly atmosphere and opportunities to meet travelers from Japan and abroad
Review 19:In the morning the shower room may be a little crowded, but that is ok.You can come earlier or later
Review 20:I love the staffs here! They are the best in the world! Although theprice is very cheap, the service and accommodation conditions areterrific!! The bar dioenstairs is awesome too!! I also met interestingguests here and made friends with some of them!! A perfect inn foryoung people!!!
Review 21:I enjoyed a single night here at The Kamakura guesthouse. Very helpful and friendly staff who are happy to talk and give advice on the area, as well just have a chat ! Simple Japanese style dorm rooms which are clean and comfortable. Recommended
Review 22:It is a busride away from the action, but it wasn't hard to find. Thanks for the great instructions on the hostel website to help find the place! We also ate/drank at a bar down the street where not much English was spoken, but we had delicious food and the staff was very gracious. When they heard we were staying at the Kamakura Guesthouse they were even more delighted -- the place must have a good reputation in the area.
Review 23:Staff were amazing. Bar/restaurant beneath the hostel was a fun and great option. Guests and staff at the hostel were fun and easy to talk to -- great, easygoing culture there. Rooms upstairs were quiet, though! Open room with fireplace was beautiful.
Review 24:- No power socket for each futon. - A lot of light gets in since sunrise since the curtains don't block all sunlight. - Not all dorm futons have something to lean against your back, so it might be a little tiresome if you have to use computer, write, or read for some time. - Wifi is sometimes unstable
Review 25:The staff is very friendly, the place is clean and the location is very close to the monorail station.
Review 26:The Japanese-style house is just what I look for to stay in it. I like the wood structure. The house is clean and quiet. The tatami and pillow is comfortable The light is shut off at 10 p.m. so the guests can go to sleep and have a good rest. All the staff and the guests are very nice and polite. And the house is in the local residence area, cosy and convienent. There's supermaket and resteraunt nearby.
Review 27:Only 1 bathroom for about 20 guests. It can be sometimes a bit long to get your ticket ;-)
Review 28:Before arriving was a bit afraid of the beds, but finally they were of excellent quality. Staff is so kind, they are willing to help you. Possible to rent a bike for free. Very close from the bus stop which comes from the main station.
Review 29:I do not have anything bad to say about the place and especially not the staff, just lovely people.
Review 30:We arrived after the reception's closing but was not a problem at all. The staff is absolutely amazing!
Review 31:The traditionnal bathroom can't be used fully since the tub stays covered. Otherwise it's a big YES
Review 32:If you are looking for a traditionnal guesthouse but still want to meet new people this is the place. The staff is really helpfull and the bar downstairs serves really good food. i recommend
Review 33:Nothing.
Review 34:A very good place run by a group of nice people. OKiku san was very nice and answered questions from everybody about everything. It was also nice experience to sit with other guests from all over the world around the IRoLi or KoTaTsu, chatting. BTW, thank the friend who helped to open the suitcase for me.
Review 35:Located a bit too far outside (in the description it was said 1,5 km from Kamakura train station, but it's appr 4 km, what I just realised after 20 min walking with my luggage and not even made half of the way). Just 1 shower for all guests (around 20 if it's fully booked) and the shower is next to the kitchen and common area, so you need to cross it. Dorm room is 7 Futons on the floor (japanese style), so not much space for everyone. Taking into account the not so great location, just one shower for all guests and the little space in the dorm I guess 3000 Yen is quite pricey compared to other accomodations in Tokio, Kyoto, Mt Fuji etc. (It was actually the most expensive one I stayed in)
Review 36:The staff is super-friendly, bicyles for rent for 500 Yen per day, kitchen for guests to use, nice common-area to get in contact with other guests and staff, the whole house is very clean
Review 37:A little difficult to find, but that's it!
Review 38:Absolutely everything! The staff were extremely polite and thoughtful; even staying up till 3am to make sure I got in alright. The beds were comfy, and the atmosphere was cozy. Very traditional and amazing.
Review 39:I can not eat the 焼き魚, because it is available from Sep to Mar, and I stayed there on April. 1⋯(╥﹏╥)
Review 40:I love the traditional Japanese house. The staffs are really friendly, I especially would like to appreciate Bochi San, she translated and taught me some Japanese ^^ I wish I could come back soon.
Review 41:You feel at home and very cosy, beautiful japanese traditional home and facilities, great shower, great rooms, great staff. Also a lot of japanese guest not to much tourists, makes the stay more intresting
Review 42:Very nice staff. Comfortable environment surrounding. Highly recommend to rent a bike to enoshima and kamamura. Its not far to get to these places from the guesthouse and you can enjoy the seaside view riding to all these places.
Review 43:Perfect the way it was.
Review 44:The atmosphere that is felt from this gem of a house is priceless. The staff are extremely friendly. Great place to stay and genuinely nicepeople to meet. Will recommend to travellers and will definitely return to that awesome kotatsu the next time I am in the neighbourhood.
Review 45:nice and quite place with so fresh air .many attractions around here. all staffs here are so helpful and nice. the house is really Japanese style, you won't want miss it .
Review 46:Cold in the room until the heating was on full blast but it is January!
Review 47:We particularly liked the friendly, welcoming, helpful and always available staff. And the fantastically stylish man tending the bar downstairs (perfect host) who cooked us a perfect Italian (!) dinner before our very eyes at a reasonable price.
Review 48:clean place, the staff is very friendly, there's a nice atmosphere in the guesthouse. it's japanese style: tatami, and futon beds, and a fireplace in the middle of the main room to make tea :) staying there was a nice experience.
Review 49:The staff of Kamakura Guesthouse are really friendly and passionate. They kindly provide advice about tavelling in Kamakura. The common area also serves as a great place for cultural exchange.
Review 50:It was too hot during the night - I had trouble sleeping because of it. The walls are paper thin and the male dormitory is right next to the common room. A group of people were talking and generally being loud way after lights out - because the walls are so thin, we could hear everything.
Review 51:I liked how it was traditional Japanese guesthouse.
Review 52:Location of the bathroom (you have to pass the living room/kitchen) is not very private.
Review 53:Very friendly atmosphere and some nice staffs. The interior is Japanese-y and they have this traditional stove thing. Access to Great Buddha and the city center is convenient and you can also rent a bicycle.
Review 54:The bedroom had no kind of privacy, which was ok for me. But it may not be liked by some travellers.
Review 55:The staff was really charming and helpful. They tried they best to make me feel comfortable at all times. They even drew me maps of any place I wanted to visit.
Review 56:Only one shower, not enough Not so close to the beach or other attractions
Review 57:Awesome staff Easy to find Really nice and warm atmosphere The boss cooked for everyone and let us try preparing some sashimi with his (amazing) knife. The have a manual machine for shaved-ice which we could use
Review 58:Air conditioning in private room didn't work Far from the attractions but accessible by bus in 10-15 minutes
Review 59:Friendly staff, good English skills Beautiful old building Reasonable price
Review 60:Not in centre of Kamakura, but no problem when renting a bike
Review 61:Friendly, helpful staff Traditional Japanese Guest house Very clean Very well equipped kitchen Free wifi/computer Very clean bathroom Homely Bike rental Cheap laundry Relaxing environment Good place to meet other travellers
Review 62:Bus or bike ride away from Kamakura attractions (but we knew that when we booked, so no fault of the guesthouse). Kitchen was too small for lots of people cooking at same time
Review 63:Peaceful shared living space Bike hire Smiles and giggles from staff Well organised shared dorms Directions on website and map were very easy to follow Clean
Review 64:Great staffs, really building a friendly atmosphere, willing to spend time with guests. Very cozy and organized guest house, had a wonderful time here.
Review 65:Not fansy consider the price, only one toilet and a small wash place. But anyhow the bathroom is big, and that's what traditional Japanese life likes.
