Reviews for Hotel Antiche Mura
Review 1:There was nothing I didn’t like about Antiche Mura, except that I had to leave after only 4 nights.
Review 2:This is the second time we’ve stayed in this hotel (the last was in 2006) and I couldn’t wait to return. The hotel acknowledged our loyalty with a bottle of champagne on arrival. This is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in, and the best in our 17 days in Italy. The staff is extremely friendly, courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable. Kudos to Mario and Francesco at the Front Desk and to Mario in the Dining Room. The breakfast buffet is extensive and excellent; we counted over 20 items on the sweets table alone!! A request for capers was remembered the next two days. The room (402) was large, clean, and comfortable. The location is unbeatable - only a block from the main square and about a 10 minute walk to the train station. Highly recommended.
Review 3:The main thing we disliked about this, is we couldn't stay longer. This kind of service sadly was not found in other locations on our trip through Italy.
Review 4:Everything about this accommodation was enjoyable. From the view from our balcony overlooking the orange and lemon trees that you could literally reach out and touch, to the excellent attentiveness of the staff. Our maitre'd, Mario greeted us each morning with a hearty "buon giorno," and led us to a fabulous breakfast buffet, and even serenaded the guests in a wonderful Italian tenor voice. The desk staff was very knowledgeable and most helpful in finding dinner accommodations and letting us know the best way to find our way around to the sites we wanted to see. Overall, a fantastic stay!
Review 5:Nothing to report.
Review 6:The location i.e. close to shops, bars, restaurants, train station. Loved the breakfasts and choice. The friendly and professional staff, especially Tony and the gentleman who greets you in the breakfast room! Our room was very comfortable and nothing too much trouble.
Review 7:Towels could have been softer, but wouldn't stop us from recommending or returning
Review 8:The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was large and clean. The location was central with easy access by walking to sites, restaurants and bus station for trip around the Amalfi coast.
Review 9:Couldn't find a thing we didn't like.
Review 10:What a lovely hotel. So clean and comfortable and the staff are so friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent. It is in the centre of the old town and you can walk everywhere.

Review 12:Great welcome. Everyone was kind and attentionate, always trying to help and make our stay more agreable. Beautiful hotel excellently located and perfectly maintained.
Review 13:Nothing! You won't be disappointed in with this hotel.
Review 14:Perfect location! Lovely, clean hotel and rooms, wonderful helpful staff, FABULOUS breakfast buffet. The best hotel at a great value!
Review 15:The staff went out of their way to help us and make us comfortable. This was especially helpful to me since I was very ill during our stay and had to stay in the room for much of the time.
Review 16:We liked everything! The hotel location is very convinient: close to everything - bus and train stations, port, restaurants. Our room was cleane and bright, with a beautiful view and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious. Staff at the front desk is above all praise - very friendly and always ready to help at any issue and request.
Review 17:Great location. Excellent décor and facilities. We had a junior suite which was light, and spacious. Breakfast was outstanding in a lovely environment, staff friendly and helpful. Complimentary bottle of bubbly on arrival a nice touch.
Review 18:Clean, modern facility with excellent location for bus and rail connection (about 5 blocks to the station). Best breakfast in Italy (of our seventeen hotels so far in Italy on this trip). On site valet parking, nice lobby bar. Staff is very helpful with advice, recommendations, reservations, directions, and answers.
Review 19:The staff were friendly and helpful, the room spotlessly clean, the breakfast buffet excellent and the grounds were lovely = I wish it had been hot enough to use the swimming pool.
Review 20:Did request a high floor room away from the elevator but got a first floor room next to the elevator??? They did offer to change us the next day but we just ended up staying where we were.
Review 21:Excellent location could not be beat. Helpful staff even arranged airport and train station transfers for us. Breakfast room was lovely even though we are not used to having so many little dessert like cakes for breakfast it was laid out beautifully with wonderful breads, yogurts, fruits, bacon, cereal....
Review 22:the hotel staff was very pushy. the bell boy was nice right untill the moment i said i don't want help. than he started talking not nicley in italian. the receptionst walked us to the room, even when we told him it is ok and we will do just fine. he kinnda forced himself in a hope to get a tip.
Review 23:evreything else was fine! the staff in the hotel dinning room was awesome!
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:One of the best hotel during my trip to italia - price was reasonable for their service and room condition room was really ward and cozy and breakfast also nice specially this place was located center of Torse plazza - only 3-5 mins by walk Valet parking only 10 euro!!!!
Review 26:Not wanting to be picky but the usual maitre'd in the breakfast room was perfect and there was a noticeable difference when he had a day off.
Review 27:The hotel staff were delightful (except for one female waitress in the breakfast room). Unfailingly helpful, attentive, polite and considerate. Delightful and well-taught.
Review 28:A bit pricy. Paid extra for a balcony, but view was not great, and was a bit noisy.
Review 29:Service and location were extraordinary. Amazing breakfast! Lovely pool and grounds.
Review 30:There is no bad experience at this hotel.
Review 31:Location was central to walk everywhere in Sorrento. We walked several days down to the Port to take the Hydrofoil to different exciting spots. Hotel front staff was amazing. Mario & Guiseppe & Francesco were fabulous. Helpful, informative and delightful. I even forgot a carry on bag at the hotel and they packed it up and sent it to Rome in one day. We had a garden room and I swam in the pool. Rooms were very comfortable, quiet and serene setting. Breakfasts were delicious! Do not miss staying here. Malia from Kauai, Hawaii, U.S.A
Review 32:Difficulty getting a good internet service in our room which was being resolved after we left. Moved from fifth floor to second floor because my wife had two nights sleep disturbance because of some unresolved mechanical noise, possibly air conditioning motor.
Review 33:The location was perfect close to centre but quiet. The staff could not have been more considerate. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The building was old style but comfortable.
Review 34:Great location on the edge of the Valley of the Mill. The hotel itself is very nice, our apartment was quite large. The staff was competent and friendly.
Review 35:That we had to come home and end our wonderful trip.
Review 36:The staff were very friendly and always on hand to assist and make recommendations for day trips. Superb location next to plaza Tasso, Restaurants, shops and bars. Loved this hotel and the staff are a credit to the owner.
Review 37:Great location. Very friendly but unobtrusive staff. Room kept very clean with towels changed twice per day. Lovely little pool with a bar attached (glass of Moretti in the evening was perfect). All in all we couldn't rate this hotel highly enough
Review 38:There wasn't a single bad thing wrong with this hotel, its a gods send that I plan to return to. I fully recommend using this hotel!
Review 39:I loved the attentiveness of the staff at the Hotel Antiche Mura, before i flew out i was in contact with them. They couldn't do enough for me and helped me sort out excursions to great sites like Pompeii for me and my girlfriend (a surprise for her). Anything we asked of they helped. We arrived really early and they made sure we got the room as soon as it was available. The location of the hotel is one of the key features as you are bang in the main centre and everything is walking distance. This is perfect for the evenings and meals out. The pool itself was very nice too.
Review 40:Great location. Centre of everything. Staff very helpful and friendly. Room was spotless and the pool was a good added extra for cooling off after a hot days shopping and sightseeing.
Review 41:The standard room was very small for the cost, we did however upgrade and the rooms were fantastic.
Review 42:Excellent central location in the heart of Sorrento. The staff were very good especially Vincente.
Review 43:Wifi could be improved a little as it sometimes cut out in the rooms. We stayed for almost one week, so potentially something new on the breakfast bar could add a little variety.
Review 44:Loved the staff as they were very attentive to every detail. A friendly staff member even sang as he delivered tea to our room! Reception staff gave us great advice about the local area.
Review 45:Very helpful staff especially regarding travel options and restaurant suggestions, great location, well maintained. Spacious reception area, and good size room and bathroom. Nice relaxing pool area. Good breakfast selection - perhaps more staffing at breakfast could be helpful
Review 46:I am being picky, but there were a few cobwebs in the bathroom and the beds were a little hard for my back.
Review 47:Excellent breakfasts, friendly and efficient staff, not pretentious and brilliant location. In August the air conditioned room is such a relief.
Review 48:A gym would have been nice if we're picking holes..
Review 49:The staff and location were amazing, air con was great, pool was nice and the breakfast buffet was something else! The only place is ever stay in Sorrento!
Review 50:Pool a little on the small size- not a real problem though
Review 51:The staff were so friendly- every person who worked there said hello when they saw you. Front desk staff made excellent meal recommendations- phoning to book tables for us. Spotlessly clean. Had a good sized room with balcony. Breakfast was the best we've had at a hotel- prosecco and smoked salmon as well as all the usual cakes, fruit and pastries. The pool area is lovely, if a little small but you can always get a spot to sunbathe.
Review 52:Loved the location. Perfect access to everything. the staff were friendly, courteous and more than helpful with information. Will definitely go back. A special mention and thanks to Mario and his staff at the breakfast lounge!
Review 53:V comfortable but you have the feeling that the hotel is on the verge of needing a refurb. Rooms could be modernised to provide for an even more comfortable stay.
Review 54:Perfect location in central Sorrento; close enough to wander down steps to beach and into old port. Staff very friendly and full of good restaurant ideas for family with three approaching teenage children.
Review 55:The staff was very inviting and helpful. The lemon trees and greenery around the pool area was beautiful! We loved the location being so close to the main square and the train station. Loved having the slippers and bath robes to use in the room. The breakfast spread was delicious. Overall we had a very enjoyable and restful stay.
Review 56:Poor directions if travelling by car on booking.com website.
Review 57:The free up grade to a top floor room. Dinner time check and tidy of the room by maids. The pool and central but quiet location
Review 58:Staff by pool were not friendly at all. Can't believe they let that man in the service industry. Every hotel we stayed at in Italy staff was amazing except for him. He was rude, critical and pushy. Front desk staff were very good. Rooms were small, smelly and had the worst bedding. So disgusting that they use the old polyester covers - they need to refresh the old and tired rooms.
Review 59:Location was good for walking around town with shops and restaurants. However Sorrento is not the nicest place to go in Italy and food ranked the lowest of all the places we visited in Italy. Hotel is five minute walk from train station so very easy to get to Naples and to Pompeii. It is a good place to stay if you want to go to Pompeii for a day.
Review 60:Top notch staff! They were super helpful. Our favorite part of the hotel was the pool area- perfect and relaxing after being tourists for days... Staying in town was really nice-
Review 61:We found the staff here to be very accommodating. Everyone was so nice and helpful. We stayed here on the last night of our trip to the Amalfi Coast. The staff were kind enough to store our car for a small daily fee for 2 days while we took a side trip to Capri before returning to stay in Sorrento. The pool is nice and the rooms were great. We didn't get a chance to experience the breakfast as we left quite early in the morning for an early flight out of Naples. The front desk staff felt so badly about our early am departure that they upgraded our room. If we hadn't stayed in several small towns on the Amalfi Coast, the Hotel Antiche Mura would've been a great base from which to explore the amalfi coast.
Review 62:Not a bad experience but the wifi connection was quite erratic
Review 63:The friendliness and diligence of the staff together with the older style of the hotel combined to create a charming atmosphere and made our stay really delightful
Review 64:Not a thing
Review 65:This was our second stay in this excellent establishment. The location, staff and facilities are 1st class. The breakfasts are wonderful. Can't wait to return in 2017.
Review 66:Nothing!
Review 67:Fantastic staff - beautiful pool & area surrounding it - lots of choice & nice buffet breakfast - great room with terrace - perfect central location but quiet as well. Excellent overall - well done to staff & management
Review 68:We stayed for 4 nights, unbeatable location, magical traditional Italian hotel with classic rooms and staff service was impeccable, we would highly recommend the hotel to all
Review 69:softer mattress on the bed and definitely softer pillows would be a great improvement. Cushions for the lounge beds would also be good as they were uncomfortable to lie on.
Review 70:The staff, always so helpful and good humoured, The pool area lovely. Morning breakfast area ideal. A very relaxing place to stay and rooms quiet at night.
Review 71:My only tiny niggle is that there was no magnifying mirror in the bathroom.
Review 72:Location is just off main square so central but quiet. Staff without exception polite, friendly and helpful. Room very well appointed, clean. Pool area excellent.
Review 73:Nothing bad at all.
Review 74:Stayed for a week - Staff were excellent. Housekeepers working around the clock, Mario every morning at breakfast and throughout the day was super friendly and the member of staff that did the bar in the evening (who we never caught his name) also just as good. Gladly stay again in the future.
Review 75:Pool itself small and not deep - seemed crowded with only five adults in there. Not a full room service. Room furnishings a bit dated.wi-fi patchy.
Review 76:Pool in the small but pretty garden. Grass and trees (with lemons) so refreshing. Lovely tiles on floor of our room. Friendly staff. Proper Italian coffee at breakfast. Breakfast starts at 7am which is useful for early departures. Tiny but pleasant balcony. Pool café does surprisingly good lunches - definitely not just snacks. Husband loved his pizza. Valet parking at a reasonable price - rental car brought right outside reception for our departure.
Review 77:Hotel feels old fashioned especially the decoration, could do with some modernisation
Review 78:Great friendly staff, lovely garden/pool area and clean room. Sparkling wine in room, nice touch
Review 79:The hotel is ideally placed, very close to the centre and just far enough away to be quiet, The staff were very friendly and attentive and the room was kept spotlessly clean. Had a restful secluded pool area.
Review 80:The internet was available but somewhat slow.
Review 81:The staff were very professional, courteous and extremely helpful. The breakfast was "to die for!"
Review 82:Having to leave.
Review 83:Friendly staff, wonderful jasmine trees and serene garden with beautiful lemon and orange trees. Heated pool was superb. The room was so elegant with a high ceiling and wall decorated with a pretty scene. The shower was powerful and the towels were soft and fluffy. I had a superb massage in my hotel room so I didn't even have to leave my room. There was also the option to have it outside. Great location too.
Review 84:The only negative was poor wifi and lukewarm water in our first room. Those issues were resolved in our second room although I like the location of the first room (by the pool) much better. The second room was very nice but we did get a fair amount of noise from people coming off on on the elevator across the hall. If noise is an issue for you, simply request a quiet room ahead of time. We booked last minute so we got the only room left.
Review 85:The first room by the pool was better than the room in the main building. Staff was incredibly helpful. They even took care of shipping a suitcase home for me so I didn't have to lug it to the UPS store. It's great if you want to be in town. We loved this hotel and moved here after a terrible experience at La Tonnarella which was dumpy, dirty and had a rude or disinterested staff without even someone to help carry bags. Moving to Antiche Mura was wonderful. A gem of a hotel.
Review 86:Given the mountains and hills in Sorrento we found we had to log on more often- but we weren't using phones and iPads very much- this was a vacation- if we needed information, the staff provided all the help we required.
Review 87:High on our list of hotel requirements are comfort, good value and convenient location- Hotel Antiche Mura provide all this and more- beautiful setting, garden/pool area so tranquil you'd think you were in your own private villa. Excellent staff, so cheerful and helpful- English spoken fluently. Breakfast had so many offerings it was like a formal buffet- delightful views in the sun filled room - you almost didn't want to leave to go sightseeing! We are experienced travelers and we just fell in love with this superb hotel- oh, and the exquisite bath room had a shower/ soaking tub!!!
Review 88:There wasn't anything that I can say that I didn't like
Review 89:This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. The room was great, very comfortable. No other hotel could beat the breakfast. The staff at the front desk was so helpful, giving us suggestions of places to eat, to helping is with tours. I definitely would recommend this hotel and would go back.
Review 90:There was not a thing we did not like!
Review 91:We liked everything about this hotel. It as a 10. One of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed at. The grounds were lovely, the breakfasts outstanding, the staff were friendly, professional and helpful. A perfect place!
Review 92:Not a thing.
Review 93:A real oldfashioned hotel with a superb breakfast, beautiful gardens, spacious, comfortable rooms with a balcony. It,s right in the middle of town and the staff is unassuming and very helpful.
Review 94:Friendliness of the staff was exceptional. They could not do enough for us and always delivered service with a smile. Location was also great and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.
Review 95:The staff at the front desk went out of their way each day to accomodate our needs and answer questions. The breakfast was outstanding! They offered fresh, hot and cold items to choose from.
Review 96:The staff only give advice or leaflets on their own private tours which are extortionate. We had to do our own research which was fine but would be nice to get more info at the desk. Breakfast was not great for vegetarians and no alternative offered which was a shame. We were supposedly upgraded to a suite from a triple room but it was two twin beds with a sofa bed squished in the corner.
Review 97:The location is perfect, less than 2 minutes to the main piazza and 10 minutes to the marina. Staff are lovely and welcoming
Review 98:There wasn't anything not to like. You won't be disasspointed.
Review 99:Small but quaint rooms, incredibly friendly service, amazing breakfast. Unbelievably clean.
Review 100:The only problem we had was with the taxi that was called by the hotel the morning we left. he was rude and over charged us. 20e to go from the hotel down the hill to Marina Picoloa.
Review 101:Everything. Convenient to the central square, churches, restaurants and transportation.
Review 102:Very central and close to all amenities, the hotel is off the main square so you are not disturbed with nosie. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good.
Review 103:Wifi kicked you out pretty quick Limited to channels and no pay per view option
Review 104:Comfort room amazing views bed was the best I've ever slept in location is best in Sorrento
Review 105:I booked a standard room, but on arrival we were told that we have been upgraded to a garden room. We had to go through the hotel, through the garden in to a kind of annex. Very nice in the summer with the pool near, but unfortunately during our stay it turned out wet and stormy. Therefore going to breakfast was rather uncomfortable. Bed was uncomfortable, so we didn't sleep very well.
Review 106:Wonderful, helpful staff, good breakfast and public areas beautifully kept and sparkling clean Location could not have been better, just off main square, near restaurants, shops and the station
Review 107:Very centrally located near piazza tasso, the hotel has it's own parking, and the rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean. Very helpful staff, I would stay there again
Review 108:Location is great - just off the main square (far enough to be quiet) and close to trains, buses and ferry to Capri or Naples. Staff are wonderful. Building and rooms are great. Breakfast is a joy. Stop procrastinating and just book it!
Review 109:Wifi was slow and we had to reconnect every time we returned to the room.
Review 110:The room was very well presented with great views of sorrento and the mountains. The staff couldn't be more helpful and accommodating.
Review 111:The hotel, room, and breakfast are all excellent but the best part of this hotel is the helpful and friendly staff. All of the staff we encountered, without exception, did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. We were given the impression that nothing is too much trouble, "Thank you" to you all.
Review 112:Nothing.
Review 113:The staff were so friendly and helpful. The location is one of the best in Sorrento. The room was spotless and very well furnished, a joy to come back to. Just a wonderful Hotel.
Review 114:cant think of anything I didn't like.
Review 115:Close to the centre of town, very relaxed and Staff always tried to assist us with our sight seeing arrangements, warned of bad weather and gave alternate options for sight seeing. Loved the hotel, loved the town. Oh and great TV lots of stations including English such as CNN and BBC news so we could keep up with the news.
Review 116:Normal price of hotel would be expensive.
Review 117:Location to central area of Sorrento. The breakfast area and variety of food. We got a good deal on the web the day before.
Review 118:Staff were helpful and very polite. Facilities of the hotel were immaculately maintained. Excellent buffet breakfast with a wide choice to suit most tastes.
Review 119:Pillows. You can ask for down feather pillows if you wish.
Review 120:Fantastic location. Friendly staff. Front desk most helpful with all our inquiries regarding tours, restaurants, etc. Great breakfast.
Review 121:No comment!
Review 122:What a lovely hotel - we stayed for 4 nights over New Year and couldn't have been happier. Our room was warm and cosy - important as it was freezing outside - and in such a good location that we could nip in and out to warm up. The Reception staff were so helpful - we felt we were in really safe hands. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this for location, comfort and friendliness.
Review 123:The beds weren't very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was quite weak and the water temprature kept changing. Only breakfast was available at the hotel restaurant.
Review 124:The location was great and the facility beautiful. The staff was very kind and helpful. The room was beautiful and of perfect size for 2 people. The wifi arrangement they originally had was not very good, and when we told them, they hooked up a router in our room, which made the wifi excellent!
Review 125:Location is withing walking distance of restaurants, shops, train station. We were given a room upgrade and it was large, elegant & had a wonderful view. Bright breakfast room opens onto manicured gardens & selection was amazing! Reception staff was very friendly & helpful in giving directions & arranging driver for Amalfi Coast. A little difficult to find using car's GPS but a phone call brought the bellman to us immediately to guide us to hotel's garage. We will defintely stay here again!
Review 126:View from one of the rooms was less than desirable.
Review 127:Staff was very friendly and hospitable; breakfast was outstanding; facilities are 2nd to none; location is perfect for visiting Sorrento; parking for automobile.
