Reviews for Kotohira Kadan
Review 1:We ordered vegetarian dinner sets which were priced the same as their other regular sets. They gave us mostly raw vegetables which we had to cook ourselves. We could have gone to the market and do this ourselves There was absolutely no effort made by the hotel to provide a good dining experience despite our paying over USD80 per person for each dinner set. Very disappointing.
Review 2:We liked the modern facilities in the hotel. It felt cosy and the rooms were clean and modern.
Review 3:A beautiful ryokan , traditional but with some modern touches. Our room was very spacious and had a nice view over the river. The highlight of my stay was the wonderful outdoor cedar bath. Surrounded by floodlit bamboo and as I relaxed, the full moon rose above the horizon. Magical!
Review 4:The room air conditioning is a bit noisy.
Review 5:Everything is perfect. I stayed at the main building which is recently refurbished and elegant in its design. The huge lounge open to all residents and the outdoor foot spa overlooking the beautiful scenery of town are particularly impressive.
Review 6:cannot communicate smoothly in English, but its OK
Review 7:Very beautiful view of the whole city and mountain, nice and helpful staff, quiet and peaceful place. Close to 金刀比罗宫 and JR station, you can send message to the hotel and staff will pick you up at the station
Review 8:Nothing, it was too great!!!!
Review 9:Everything are amazing, food are great. The hot spring are great! Service was amazing, the place was beautiful and lovely! I would love to come again!
Review 10:Only Japanese style breakfast is available
Review 11:Staff's explanation is clear and willing to introduce different facilities in the room for us. Beautiful scenery and quiet. Quick access to the hot spa, price is also reasonable.
Review 12:Not sure about the location because i drive there Can walk to famous 金刀比羅宫from the hotel The linen of the hotel is good quality Nice staff too
Review 13:We were pleased with the pick up and drop off shuttle service from the train station as it would be quite a distance to walk. The staff the served us our meals were courteous, efficient, and attentive. The food was quite good.
Review 14:With the exception of the young man who helped us check in and carry our luggage to our room, we felt the shuttle driver and older gentleman who greeted us at the reception desk did NOT make us feel comfortable or welcome at their ryokan.
Review 15:Cleanliness of ryokan
Review 16:Not easy to walk to the town center. Dinner had to be booked in advance and there is no casual restaurant.
Review 17:Smart interior decoration and the comfortable bed. Delicious dinner served by very polite staff. Lovely garden.
Review 18:None.
Review 19:Exquisite room, great view of the plain, incredible VEGETARIAN breakfast (hard to find one in Japan, prior request needed), boutique onsen, staffs speak English. Totally worth it every dollar!
Review 20:Huge room with great view over the town. I had the onsen to myself both times I went in. It is a short walk to the start of the steps to the shrine. We stayed 2 nights and had breakfast and dinner both days - excellent meals. We parked in the private car park below the hotel and were picked up and driven back down by the hotel mini bus.
Review 21:In both quantity and quality we felt the dinner was only so so in comparison to other more expensive ryokan. Foreigners ( or Japanese!) not used to sleeping on futons might ask for an extra one.
Review 22:The private rotenburo made the journey wirthwhile. Staff very polite and attentive.
Review 23:How wonderful ! we booked the twin room with private open-air bath. Not cheap of course, but well worth it ! The perfect place to relax and enjoy wonderful Shikoku. We received a very warm welcome when we arrived, and could park the rental car just in front of the building. The building is a great mix between traditional style and modern design and comfort. Dinner and breakfast were a real treat, perfect balance. Konpira-san is very close. Thank you also with helping us send postcards and luggage.
Review 24:We were told that there was nothing for dinner around. But there is effectively a very friendly cafe in town called New green, where they serve nice food
Review 25:Beautiful view Amenities Attentive staff
Review 26:GPS could not locate this ryokan. Kept leading us to other side of the park. Better with Google maps and navigation
Review 27:Kotohira Kadan staff were extremely helpful despite the fact that we do not speak a word of Japanese. Meals were excellent. Spa area is very well kept. There is also a lounge area which overlooked part of the city. Overall value for money given the quality.
Review 28:Facilities like laundry didn't exist which was a little strange.
Review 29:The food was authentic and fantastic. We loved everything. The staff were wonderful and very helpful.
Review 30:warm and friendly welcome with tea while we waited for the preparation of the room; we travelled with two bicycles and had 5 bags each and they brought the bags up to the room and sorted them by color and size (nice little detail); outdoor onsen; splendid kaiseki dinner
Review 31:Ouch. Hurts the wallet!!
Review 32:Superlative food. 12 course dinners. Incredibly comfortable rooms. A fantastic spa beside a bamboo grove. Very, very attentive staff. A truly authentic and luxurious Japanese experience. Should be experienced a least once to get the full flavour of Japan.
Review 33:First room assigned was low and faced hill This was less light then our comfort. Upon request ,staff moved us to valley side which was much more suited to our needs A few staff spoke some English. Not a big issue for me as my wife speaks some Japanese.
Review 34:Delightful spa experience. Highly recommend that visitors use service. U will not be disappointed We booked the private bath which was an outstanding experience Stayed four nights which was about right time to enjoy area Hotel staff paid attention to our needs and did an excellent job at managing our spa ,meal , bath and shuttle bus time and details Meals were one of best we have had in out three week japan trip
Review 35:A nice place with a fantastic hotel. Good to stay.
Review 36:Really good to have complimentary drink in the very nice and cozy lounge after dinner.
Review 37:Bit confusing to get to our room. Small parking.
Review 38:The way the front desk personnel talked and the landscape.
Review 39:no restaurant at Hotel without reservation
Review 40:everything
Review 41:Nothing at all, excellent hotel
Review 42:Rooms (large, clean, very modern) Facilities (also very modern) Staff/service Dinner/breakfast
Review 43:Lost the essence of Japanese quality and style.
Review 44:Nothing
Review 45:The train station pick up left because our train was delayed for 20 mins due to early earthquake. The dinner and breakfast were average and disposable chopsticks were provided for use which was most inappropriate. Overall disappointing for such a highly rated hotel.
Review 46:The property exterior and surrounding is beautiful, but that's about it. The customer service (via email) was very helpful, but upon arrival, service was disappointing.
Review 47:- some parts of the cottage not on the level of the main room - very expensive
Review 48:- accomodation in the cottage - comfortable bed - private onsen time - meals
Review 49:The service was fantastic right from the start. We were given tea and schedule for using the facilities. Dinner service was very good and the staff were always friendly and helpful. It's easy to forget that you're in the middle of a town. At the time we went - early February - it was also very good value for money.
Review 50:Private shuttle service from/to the station. The staff was tremendously helpful, and really welcoming. The premises were beautiful and well kept. The Japanese dinner (haute cuisine) and breakfast were both abundant and the chef printed a Japanese and English menu of all pleated that were served. We had a superior room with private onsen, and everything was perfect. 10+
Review 51:The room was lovely, the food was beautifully prepared, they made a real effort to accommodate my husband and I who are vegetarians. I left my pocket book there. They located it and send it overnight to our hotel in Shin Osaka. The service overall was flawless. The onsen (mineral baths) both inside and outside were wonderful. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!
Review 52:Nothing much, the outside of the hotel and entrance was a bit shoddy but it doesn't matter when the inside and service is just impeccable.
Review 53:Excellent hotel, service is wonderful and the hotel was amazing.
Review 54:The staff was very professional and friendly. The shuttle service from JR Kotohira station was appreciated! The walk looks short but luggage makes it longer. The room was exactly as described. The air conditioning was good. The view from the room at night and sunrise was lovely. Unlimited clean dry towels available, which is a thoughtful touch that makes the onsen that much nicer. They also change which common baths are men-only and women-only every day, so you can try both in one overnight stay. Would stay again!
Review 55:the room we were in was very dark-we needed to have the lights on even during the day
Review 56:Food was fantastic
Review 57:The food was particularly good. Views from room and onsen.
Review 58:Service is excellent! The room view as well! Definitely be back again!
