Reviews for Cairns Plaza Hotel
Review 1:Airconditioning did not work well. Parts of the building were renovated however there were parts that were still very old and tacky
Review 2:Location was good and rooms were clean.
Review 3:It's a little further to walk to the main strip of shops and the lagoon compared to many other hotels, not far, but anywhere feels far in 36 degree Celsius heat! Also the kitchenette is very basic with no toaster or freezer, so fine for our 2 nights but would have been inconvenient for a longer booking.
Review 4:Very clean, quiet location, Erika was fantastic helping us book a tour, very large room, with an awesome ocean view on level 6. Loved our very affordable stay at Cairns Plaza, highly recommend.
Review 5:On a quite street but a bit off the city center (15min walk).
Review 6:Room was spacious with a balcony; bed was big and comfy. Staff were very nice and helpful.
Review 7:Poor wi-fi connection.
Review 8:Helpful staff, very clean and comfortable room. Has a coin operated laundry machine which we fund very useful. Good location - a few meters from the boardwalk.
Review 9:Although seems to be paper thin walls, could hear everything from next door/in the halls/and above us. Partner was very very sick and this was a struggle for him to sleep. No knives/forks/spoons in rooms?
Review 10:Great location, rooms are modern and nice.
Review 11:Staff were unhelpful on departure which left a poor impression after what had been a very pleasant stay.
Review 12:The hotel location was ideal with all the city centre shops, bars and restaurants in easy walking distance. The room was clean and comfortable with all facilities as described
Review 13:The wifi does not work well in the rooms unfortunately. The personnel was not very accommodative regarding the check in or when we changed rooms. Overall I thought the service wasn't very welcoming
Review 14:The rooms are spacious, clean and modern.
Review 15:It was all good
Review 16:A lovely friendly hotel, with apartments - 1 bedroom and a bed in the lounge for 3 of us was perfect - lovely staff and great location within walking distance of all shops and restaurants in Cairns, nice pool with towels and ocean view. Only 15 mins from airport and walkable to the wharf where all the trips go from - diving or to the barrier reef platform.
Review 17:We stayed in a suite overlooking the sea and it was excellent. The girl on the front desk was super helpful and booked our day trip to Cape Tribulation for us. The hotel was clean and well situated and good value. The only regret we had was that we only had two day there!
Review 18:Large groups of families who knocked on each others doors all the time and generally showed no considaration for any other guests
Review 19:At the end of the esplande so quieter location than some other properties. Has been recently upgraded and the rooms a very sound proof
Review 20:Street noise was a little loud but settled down after midnight. We would have liked a toaster to use for breakfast.
Review 21:Location, amenities and value were excellent! The views of the bay were amazing since we had a full balcony. The apartment was spacious and we were very comfortable staying there. Walking to the restaurants and stores like Woolworth's was easy.
Review 22:the front desk, the front desk is too small and looks very old which is liable to leave customer a bad impression.also the furniture inside the room is too old, which can be refined.
Review 23:like the location
Review 24:Nice, spacious and clean room with comfortable bed and good shower. Friendly and very helpful receptionists. Walking distances to the shops and restaurants. Will stay again.
Review 25:We were told we were getting a spacious suite, instead for four people we got a double bed and a fold out couch. Room service came the first three days, then on the fourth day they didn't come at all with no explanation and then on the fifth day they didn't come again and when asked they said we had a do not disturb sign on our door which we absolutely did not have. We got no apology and it was obvious they didn't believe us even though the receptionist did admit that we should have at least gotten fresh towels left at our door even with a do not disturb sign
Review 26:Location, pool facilities, size of room, newly furnished apartments, view was amazing
Review 27:We are extremely happy with the choice we made when decided to stay in Cairns Plaza Hotel. Its located very near to sea promenade but away from busy and noisy part of Cairns. Our room was big, spacious, overlooking the sea and tropical trees on the hills. Had balcony and was very clean.
Review 28:-
Review 29:We spent there 3 nights wit our 11 and 14 yrs old childrens. The room had two separate part. The city center is a 10 mins walk. Everything was perfect for us. Book a seaside room! The scenic lookout is worth the surcharge.
Review 30:My room was at the side of the hotel overlooking a backpacker hotel,,there was a lot of rowdy noise from around 9pm at night
Review 31:the location and the breakfast
Review 32:$1 has been removed from my card, which though is very fair for the mug replacement, though it would have been nice to have some form of communication to have been told about this at the time of informing or leaving the hotel. As really I have no idea why this was removed.
Review 33:Excellent location, within a couple of minutes walk along the esplanade. We arrived a good few hours early with a lot of luggage after dropping our campervan off, just on the off-chance our room may be ready. The receptionist arranged for our room to be serviced and it was ready within half an hour. This was a massive help to give us time to organise our packing for the flight home. I accidentally dropped a coffee mug on the floor, went to tell the man behind reception who was very understanding and reassured me that accidents happen and that he would arrange for housekeeping to replace it. Our apartment had amazing sea views, well worth the extra money for this and I would recommend if available.
Review 34:nothing
Review 35:This room was clean, in a great location across from the ocean park, and quiet. It was only a 5 minute stroll to the restaurants on the harbour.
Review 36:Awkward lighting in our room with no main light just lights above the bed so it was quite dark but this was a very small detail
Review 37:Great location, friendly and knowledgeable staff and great room which was serviced every day
Review 38:My boy did complain about the sofa bed, but he slept soundly all nights.
Review 39:Great location. Spacious and clean room. Beautiful ocean view. Useful kitchenette. Friendly staff.
Review 40:We only stayed here for one night but were very happy with our experience. It's an older style hotel and the rooms are smallish but they have been nicely refurbished. The staff were great. The hotel is easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. We were more than happy.
Review 41:Very slow service at breakfast so we only ate there once.
Review 42:View from our suite, the size and cleanliness of our rooms, the price was amazing for what we got and the location.
Review 43:Very noisy, could here other people talking/yelling in their rooms. No microwave to heat food.
Review 44:Good location and spacious/modern room for $129 per night.
Review 45:Cairns Plaza Hotel is conveniently located on the Cairns city water front. Handy to a large number of eating places, markets and entertainment. Beds are comfortable. The rooms have own balcony so we enjoyed fresh air without the aid of air-conditioning. We live 100kms north of Cairns and stayed at Cairns Plaza Hotel overnight so we could enjoy a celebratory dinner and function in the city, without the risk of being stopped for drink-driving afterwards.
Review 46:Bathroom was a bit like a hospital bathroom and no shelves to store your stuff
Review 47:The location is top notch, close enough to walk to everything and far enough to be quite peaceful
Review 48:Reported a couple of problems that got ignored for the duration of our stay. Nothing major so we didn't pursue it. We overlooked the childrens playground (seaview room) that the council leaf blow for an hour at 7:30am every day including Sunday. The balcony windows don't add any sound proofing so it was an early morning wake up.
Review 49:Great position close to the city without being right in the busy street. The hotel is a little dated but the rooms have been modernised nicely, if a little rough on the detail. The original name of Tuna Towers made us laugh and stories from frequent visitors to Cairns that remember it as a party hotel. Those days are gone at Cairns Plaza.
Review 50:The whole establishment needs some cleanup. The shower was more like a spray, the top of the tiles in the shower as well as the aircon-outlet were more than dirty, a moist shower-curtain is not state of the art and the third "bed" in the living room was as sofa with springs sticking out and making it impossible to sleep. The pictures on the web looked different...
Review 51:The location is wonderful. We also appreciated the free parking.
Review 52:shower was not very good, the hotel may have water save thing
Review 53:I really like the location and the balcony face to the ocean side is awesome. everything just perfect
Review 54:Great location and reasonable rates. Clean and well maintained. Would definately stay again. Lots of better breakfast options nearby so wouldn't bother with the in house breakfast again as it was too basic.
Review 55:It is a really awful check in experience, I arrived the hotel at 8 am in the morning, I really want to have a room early, even through I may have to pay more. because we got up to catch the plane at 4am in the morning, we are exhausted. We were told that we were not allowed to have the room early, these are policies, we only could have the room in 2 Pm. So we had to travel around the city until 2 Pm , and we came back the hotel, but the receptionist also told me no room, we should wait, I saw others who are later than us, getting the room key was fast, they didn't need to wait. We got the key at 3 Pm. I made complain to the receptionists, they said: we booked the hotel in Booking, and we didn't pay before, the others booked their hotel in travel agency, the others had paid before arrived. Omg not the same treatment .
Review 56:It is located in city center, really convenient, staffs are unfriendly, materials are clean, I am satisfied with the room rate.
Review 57:no laundry facilities in the room, they're shared and cost $3 a go not too much of an issue but I found some tourists ogling my clothes - very odd.
Review 58:Free WiFi was nice but a little slow.the room was fantastic, comfy bed, amazing view.
Review 59:People smoke beneath the balcony Bathroom ventilation system doesn't work and mouldy vent No swipe card/fob -- old school key Tired looking lobby and front entrance could be renovated
Review 60:Great location Friendly staff Generous quantities of toiletries, towels, tea/coffee Clean, modern room and bathroom, newly renovated Generous twin bed sizes Free parking and wifi
Review 61:Got charged aud11.25 At check out for testing the room phone when firstarrived at hotel, just by dialling 0 and the dial tone ringed forminutes. Though no call had actually been made, the hotel seemed torecord it as some kind of outgoing call - (8:04) 501 and charged foraud11.25 In their system. This does not make sense and guess the hotelstaff should have looked into the bill and waived this charge for us.
Review 62:Good location and value for money. Room is very clean and tidy
Review 63:The soundproofing is poor as I often hear other visitors closing their main door. Not for light sleeper. Bed is too soft.
Review 64:Good location. Friendly staff. Value for money. Equipped with hair dryer, iron. Newly renovated.
Review 65:Units are well appointed and it's within short walking distance to Cairns boardwalk & CBD. Staff were excellent and able to manage late nite arrivals on both visits. Overall a very pleasant and hassle free experience with absolutely no complaint!
Review 66:Not a dislike but just thought there was a kitchen, no toaster, but kettle and microwave and cutlery and bowls.
Review 67:Easy walk to town and esplanade end with loads of restaurants to choose from
Review 68:King bed was two singles together and the Middle join was uncomfortable between us. Unfortunately we also had a room on the side of the building near a delivery driveway and was woken by trucks and vans. Not sure if they were for this hotel or next door but woke us early either way and it was noisy. Very basic facilities.
Review 69:Convenient location to restaurants and the lagoon.
Review 70:Friendly helpful staff, clean and fresh, very comfortable bed. Accommodation is both solo traveller and family suitable. Close to facilities, city centre and airport.
Review 71:The bed was not comfortable for two people you sunk into the middle and would have liked access to stairs inside as I hate lifts
Review 72:Location was great and the staff were very helpful with our inquiries
Review 73:No toaster which would have been handy. Playground across the road so was a little noisy at times but not too bad.
Review 74:Lovely clean hotel. Close to Esplanade. Great views if you booked a sea view.
Review 75:Bed mattress could have been more comfortable.tv was far to small and did not have abs or fox
Review 76:Easy to get parking and location was excellent. The facility was clean and room cleaned each day. Access to a pool is a bonus
Review 77:The cleaner never but cleaner on the floors of the apartment. No cooking facilities i.e. hot plate only a micro wave and what can you cook in that.
Review 78:The view. The staff where very friendly. The change of bedding and towels etc.
Review 79:There were no facilities (drawers) to store folded clothes, i. e. briefs, singlets, socks, handkerchiefs. The shower has no door, so water splatters on the entrance to the toilet when one takes a shower.
Review 80:Staff was very courteous and helpful. Room service was excellent.
Review 81:Found at times room not very sound proof, noise from lift and noisy guests, playground across from Hotel, screaming kids, too old for that, traffic not a problem, but can be noisy on weekends and blower in playground every morning as an alarm clock.
Review 82:Visited June 2015. Great location could walk into Cairns city, staff very friendly and helpful, was able to book tours through them. Had Ocean View room, cleaned daily which was great, plus free Wi Fi. Great view from room. Great place if you have kids, playground right across the road.
Review 83:Would have preferred a larger bed instead of two singles joined together
Review 84:The staff were very friendly and more than happy to help. Location of the hotel was great
Review 85:Didn't like having to leave :-((
Review 86:Meticulously clean, well equipped rooms, adjacent to waterfront, quiet location with easy short walk to town, easy access parking, reasonable rates and staff prepared to go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. FANTASTIC! Will be our preferred accommodation choice in Cairns
Review 87:A cama não tinha trava nas rodinhas, deslizava o tempo todo. Não trocaram as canecas usadas. Acho que esperavam que nós lavássemos. WiFi gratuito, mas bem ruim.
Review 88:Localização. Quarto grande.
Review 89:It was opposite playground which was a little noisy at times but not too bad.
Review 90:The hotel staff were extremely helpful. It was pretty close to everything and view from balcony lovely. The place was very clean and comfy.
Review 91:The only down side is that the accommodation is a bit older and therefore run down. All the hotel rentals were sort of older in Cairns so it was just part of the general atmosphere.
Review 92:It was a comfortable location and the room was comfortable.
Review 93:I would have liked a restaurant in the hotel. One evening when feeling a bit under the weather, had to walk into town to get some food.
Review 94:Generally quiet.
Review 95:Nothing.
Review 96:Staff were great, nothing was a problem for them. Our requests were dealt with quickly & efficiently. Rooms were clean & beds comfortable.
Review 97:Was on 3rd floor & was woken up by a garbage truck picking up the dumpster at 6am in the morn. Didn't get 2 double beds like we had booked, & shower head was a water saver made it hard to wash down.
Review 98:It was great will stay there again
Review 99:A longer than ideal walk to the marina and very slow Wi-Fi, though they are upgrading their internet very soon. The restaurant closed daily at 9:30am.
Review 100:The room was fantastic and the view was amazing!
Review 101:The location is perfect. At one corner of the Esplanade, right where the action is. Yet it is quiet. Airport is only 10 minutes ride away. Plenty of eating joints nearby along with the famous night markets. Facility of booking the reef tour at the reception was an added advantage as the prices were same as the online rates.
Review 102:free WiFi very slow (signal strength poor to fair, 2 bar max in bathroom only) no drama but no freezer compartment in fridge
Review 103:Perfect location, a few minutes walk to art gallery, main shopping centre and many and varied restaurants. Easy walk to the port where the charter boats are. Very friendly, professional and helpful staff. Stayed in a large one bedroom suite - quiet and comfortable with water and park views. Generous breakfast, perfectly cooked.
Review 104:Good position being easy walking to CBD and shoreline. Very helpful staff. Breakfast was good value as was the accommodation overall. Would definitely stay again.
Review 105:The bed was a bit hard for me (side sleeper). The elevator was quite loud during the night, sounded like I was in a tenpin bowling centre.
Review 106:Staff are great, couldn't be more helpful.
Review 107:So many other hotels in the area similarly situated with same level of accommodation are cheaper
Review 108:Newly renovated hotel formerly Tuna Towers is close enough to walk to the CBD
Review 109:noise from the lifts especially at nights.
Review 110:friendly and welcoming staff from reception catering and cleaners. It was lovely to be greeted with smiling faces.
Review 111:Sofa bed very poor quality/uncomfortable. Minor problems such as no toaster, plug stuck in bathroom sink, bedroom door slammed in wind and locked us out!,.Some powerpoints did not work, Lift is Very noisy if room is nearby.Balcony light didn't work. No exhaust fan in bathroom.Booked through booking.com but Hotel tried to overcharge on arrival.
Review 112:Great location. Terrific balcony and view. Studio room is spacious Room serviced very well with towels and supplies.
Review 113:Lift / Elevator grinds and rumbles and bangs with every movement and this reverberates through the building. We could even feel it in the balcony hand rails! Couldn't sleep, even with earplugs!
Review 114:location. corridor look and feel
Review 115:The noisy elevator. We could hear the lift during the night as well.
Review 116:location and views great. able to walk on the boardwalk in either direction. our room overlooked the park and Trinity Bay.
Review 117:The shower was the worst thing - it was one of those spout showers which had a half length glass screen and no door. No matter how you regulated the water pressure the water splashed onto the floor of the bathroom and onto the back of the bathroom door. The vanity area was quite small too - not enough bench space. The wi-fi was quite slow.
Review 118:The location was perfect - far enough away from the centre of Cairns to be nice and quiet yet only a 10 minute walk into the city centre. We were on the 6th floor in a studio room on the corner so had a view of the city from one end of the balcony and a view over the water and mountains from the other end. Loved the spaciousness of the room and the cleanliness. The kitchenette was very handy too.
Review 119:This was a busy hotel yet was quiet too.The staff were attentive and friendly with suggestions of activities. The trips were collected and returned back to the hotel.
Review 120:Wifi can be temperamental.
Review 121:Location, reasonable price, good facilities, everyday housekeeping if you wish, nice staff, good parking, free wifi. Nice swimming pool. If you have toddlers they will enjoy the park across the hotel, my boys are 11 and 13 and they enjoyed the park as well. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay at Cairns Plaza again next time. Thank you.
Review 122:Wifi was slow. 10-15mins walking distance to the main road which was fine
Review 123:everything was so good. the staff and the room. love the swiming pool except wifi was not stable and slow..
Review 124:Wifi in the room was bad connection, bad shower with no pressure; frigobar very noisy
Review 125:Not in the centre of `the Esplanade` (Cairns main sreet),; that,s ok because the centre there in many noise, but just 7 min walking within centre
Review 126:A very minor quibble - given the size of the room, the TV could have been bigger or not tucked away on a corner.
Review 127:The perfect location for engaging in activities on the Esplanade. A very spacious, neat and tidy room.
Review 128:The reception area was very basic and gave us a bad initial reaction. However, that was quickly dispelled when we got to our room./
Review 129:Staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant.
Review 130:Nothing
Review 131:Location (next to the Esplanade, but quiet, 15 min walk to Marina, where the boats to great barrier reef leave), wlan (for free and even works upstairs in the room), recently refurbished (still going on in some rooms), friendly stuff. Would recommend the hotel and stay again.
Review 132:Wifi was very slow.
Review 133:We stayed few days at oceanview suite. Hotel did fill our request about high floor (thanks about that!). The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. And the view from balcony was the bets part :). Even the air conditioner did have silent mode.
Review 134:The wi-fi was rather slow, but enough for checking emails and general internet search.
Review 135:We stayed in the top floor sea view suite, which was modern and spacious. The facilities were new, very comfortable bed and flat screen TV. We have had two balconies with a lovely views. The kitchen was well equipped, so we could have a breakfast in the room when we didn't feel like rushing for breakfast to the hotel restaurant.
Review 136:Wifi was extremely slow.
Review 137:Hotel did note out request about high floor and the room was very nice and spacious. Even the air conditioning did have silent mode.
Review 138:The wifi wasn't great in the rooms and the tv reception was pretty poor but I think that is pretty standard for Cairns. Didn't matter because we were out and about most of the time.
Review 139:The rooms were much more modern than expected, fantastic air conditioning an very comfortable beds. Would recommend.
The Fine Print
The Cairns Plaza Hotel is a non-smoking hotel.
