Reviews for Midtnes Hotel

Review 1:Very good service in a fabulous location. The hotel has an old fashioned ambience and while the rooms were basic, they were comfortable and clean and the hotel communal facilities very good. The buffet breakfast was outstanding and we also enjoyed a lovely evening a la cart meal from the dining room with fabulous views across the fjord.

Review 2:No problems.

Review 3:The owner/manager was very friendly and helpful. He offered us advice on what to do and help for future stays in this area. Much appreciated!

Review 4:Pillows were flat & no extra in the room. Tea & coffee facilities not provided. Owner / Manager not welcoming when we arrived - seems indicative of what we have experienced of Norway accom so far!

Review 5:Location was wonderful. Picked us up from ferry. Quiet room with a view. Old part was very comfortable looking & homely - would have liked to have seen the rooms in that building. Owner/Manager very pleasant in the morning with an adequate breakfast.

Review 6:There was an issue with the hot water in the shower. It wasn't too hot at the beginning but later it was ok. (It is a serious issue in a place with snowy mountain picks in August). The room facilities were a little outdated, even though well preserved.

Review 7:Friendly owner ( was kind to pick us up from the port) Nice breakfast buffet. Nice view to the fjord.

Review 8:The host's hospitality, and attention to detail was impressive. I hadn't contacted the hotel in advance, but was met at the dock, and whisked home. The substantial breakfast was made available to me before hours the day I had early plans. This hotel was a charming, warm home away from home. The fjord views from breakfast, the deck, public areas, and my room were incredible. The room was clean and comfortable. This is how hospitality should be. Thanks for an inviting, perfect stay!

Review 9:The staff was very friendly. The room was comfortable to stay in for a night or two. I didn't spend much time indoors though because the scenery begged me not to!

Review 10:Didn't find anything to complain.

Review 11:Service is excellent . John picks you up at the ferry dock. Location is perfect. Breakfast is wonderful . Rooms specious, view of the fjord is unbelievable.

Review 12:Breakfast room was hard to find.

Review 13:Beautiful view of the fjord from our balcony. We were picked up at ferry stop. Lounge chair in room was so comfortable I wanted to take it home! Room is very basic. We were there for the beauty of the area, not luxury.

Review 14:Some people might think lack of TV in rooms an issue

Review 15:Location could not be better right behind St Olav's church. Very kind manager very helpful. Very relaxing place.

Review 16:The room is a bit old and worn out. But doesn't matter much as the scenery is great.

Review 17:It's a nice small hotel with European style and great environment. Relaxing and beautiful site. Breakfast and coffee is good.

Review 18:A shame about the appearance (from outside) of the accommodation block

Review 19:Lounges full of character with superb fjord views. Almost too much choice at breakfast. Manager (?) most helpful regarding onward transport and local walks.

Review 20:There are very few choices for hotels in Balestrand, but this was a perfect blend of value and location. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Our hotel room had a spectacular view of the fjords.

Review 21:The hotel is very well positioned - close to everything in this tiny place of Balestrand - and our room had an amazing view over the fjord. The room was warm and cozy, check-in and check-out were seamless and friendly. I would recommend staying in this hotel.

Review 22:I would not recommend staying at Single room. It had old facilities and completely different atmosphere. was a bit cold and dark.

Review 23:view from the double room was beautiful! breakfast was with quality. helpful desk.

Review 24:Nothing :)

Review 25:Large room, comfy bed, good shower, beautiful mountain view from huge window with balcony, good wifi, helpful staff, excellent breakfast (particularly if you like fish, but I'm lacto-vegetarian and loved the non-fishy stuff), shop nearby for food and drink

Review 26:Big comfortable bed in a room with a fabulous view down the fiord. Warm floor in the bathroom, Staff very helpful and a substantial continental breakfast. This hotel is open all year round. Walks of all grades are lovely.

Review 27:Bedroom is simple and dated, but in a beautiful place such as Balestrand, don't spend too much time in it other than sleeping.

Review 28:The building looks historic, just behind the church. It has its own pier by the water, a rowing boat is available. It is a great alternative to the expensive hotel in the area. At night, sit on the terrace looking at the moon over the water for an unforgettable experience. Breakfast is adequate.

Review 29:Nothing.

Review 30:We were looking for a moderately-priced hotel near the ferry wharf and the Midtnes Hotel fit the bill perfectly. While the walk to the hotel was uphill, we didn't mind and van drivers from Kviknes Hotel even offered to drive us. Hotel staff was extremely accommodating, invited us to eat breakfast early, and drove us to the wharf to catch an early ferry.

Review 31:Service was first rate--John was patient, kind, hospitable, and very informative. He served us an early breakfast on the day of our departure and hustled us into his van and down to the dock as soon as he saw our ferry heading up the fjord towards Balestrand. Loved our balcony room gazing down on old St. Olaf's church, and love our walk on the old road up the fjord to view the old villas there.n

Review 32:Very well managed, probably with ownership. Staying at, just like very cozy B&B a bit bigger scale. Famous church of Olaf is within boundary and being managed by hotel. Manager picked us up from ferry by van, but also can walk in 5-10 min. Very good breakfast.

Review 33:WiFi only worked close to the front desk while I was there, but I am sure they will get that fixed soon.

Review 34:Close to the dock where the ferry let's you off. Centrally located. Great rooms with a beautiful older part of the building in the front. The manager (owner) was very nice, offered us coffee on a rainy afternoon and gave me a ride down to the dock for the ferry.

Review 35:I had to leave.

Review 36:The proprietor was very helpful, caring, courtesy, and took care of all needs. The facility was peaceful and offered numerous spots for relaxation and viewing the fjord. Easy access to the express ferry and bus transportation. Beautiful setting.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:It was a quiet hotel with views of the Fjord. Lots a little places to sit and enjoy the outside. Friendly staff and was a good breakfast buffet. Even had name cards on the tables of where to sit. Seemed to go out of their way to put on the breakfast.

Review 39:The manager went out of his way to be kind and helpful, making my stay an easy and memorable experience. The hotel is gracious and efficient with excellent views of the fjord.

Review 40:Breakfast a bit limited if you're not into smoked/pickled fish. Low flow shower.

Review 41:Gorgeous view of fjord outside window. Quiet room and building. Very friendly owner - helps you with planning and suggestions for your trip. Easy walk from pier or to the few restaurants in town.

Review 42:WiFi reception in the room was not very good.

Review 43:Lovely building with beautiful interior. Breakfast was excellent and the owner very friendly. Very good location!

Review 44:The breakfast was poor... we didn't have much choice for cereales, marmelades, and the bread was not newly made... The room was without tv.

Review 45:The view was superbe!

Review 46:nothing

Review 47:We had a room with balcony on 4th floor and able to sit and enjoy view of fjord. Excellent front desk service and able to provide earlier breakfast as we were going on early boat to Vik.

Review 48:the newer building where my room was lacked charm, as did the bedroom.

Review 49:charming main building; nice size room; beautiful view onto the fjord; good buffet breakfast; helpful manager

Review 50:My room was very basic, which was ok for a short stay.

Review 51:Beautiful views of the fjord in a quiet town off the busy "nutshell" route. Good food.

Review 52:John is gracious host, thoroughly attentive and accommodating. Property is well cared for. He arranfged a 1 day rental car which we used to tour north of Balestrand - clockwise to the glacier, then along a big long lake, through two other towns, then back via route 13. The scenery was beautiful, a diversion from the fjord scene, and the final stretch (rt 13) was spectacular. Well worth the expense of renting a car for just one day. Beautifully sited on Sognefjord.

Review 53:Few choices for eating and food was only adequate. Unless one can eat at upscale restaurants, the food we had in Norway was pretty tasteless and boring (except for the fish and bread...)

Review 54:Wonderful view of the fjord from our room! The host was friendly and very accommodating - picked us up at the pier when we arrived, served breakfast early the day we left and drove us back to the pier - all with a smile! Laundry facility at the dock - finally had clean clothes :)

Review 55:Varied and generous breakfast buffet, gorgeous location; owner is knowledgeable about area. Mid-September visit so quiet and pleasant!

Review 56:Excellent location and great proprietor . Older style hotel, not fancy but very clean. Like the other reviews say, does the trick quite admirably

Review 57:The location was very nice and the view from the balcony was stunning.

Review 58:Friendly staff, great room.

Review 75:Hospitality of the owner made this hotel special. Gorgeous views too!

Review 76:Lovely hotel which has maintained much of its original character and is beautifully located.

Review 77:The location is really near the harbor of Nordline, like 5 minutes walking. The view from the common area is also good too.

Review 78:No toaster at breaky and tea in room with jug would be good

Review 79:Easy location, close to facilities and good view

Review 80:Good location

Review 81:Great staff! He recommended some awesome walks on the nature trails, delicious restaurants, and places to check out before we left the area!

Review 82:a bit old

Review 83:Location, water front. Nice room with terrace. Nice breakfast and welcoming

Review 84:breakfast was poor

Review 85:Location

Review 86:Fabulous view out our window to the fjords, and small balcony was great too. Great breakfast with many options.

Review 87:They offered us a very nice view room. The room has a very large clear window that you could see the whole Lake.

Review 88:No TV and wireless slow

Review 89:Location was great .

Review 90:Style, comfort, location, owner/staff ... owner made breakfast especially for us because of an early boat to Bergen, and drove us to the dock!

Review 91:The walls didn't actually filter any noise of our nice neighbors.

Review 92:It was nice, cosy, and very nice breakfast.

Review 93:No teacup inside room No TV inside room

Review 94:Excellent breakfast Good view Nice staff

Review 95:Traditional well-managed hotel in a fantastic, peaceful natural environment. Great professional staff.

Review 96:The room, the view, the public rooms, the breakfast, the hotel swimming, everything

Review 97:Location on fjord, friendly and helpful owner, food fresh, pier for sunbathing and jumping into fjord! Fresh breakfast foods.

Review 98:Private Beach of the Hotel

Review 99:Very attentive host that helped us with some Kroner for dollars. Breakfast very good. If you like scrambled eggs and an inspirational view, this is the place. Needs a few upgrades. A little hot water for nighttime tea would be nice. Brian

Review 100:Pretty expensive for the really simple and old room without a TV, etc.. Not more like youth hostel standard, but a 4 star-price.

Review 101:Amazing view to the fjord, very central location.

Review 102:Whilst not being right on the water the views of the fjord were lovely. We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful town. Being from Australia we found it strange that there was no TV or tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Great local breakfast.

Review 103:It rained 1.5 of the 3 days we were there - but we can't blame anyone of.r that! (We had one clear day to ferry over to Vik to see the 12th century stave church.)

Review 104:The owner - who was very friendly and helpful, picked us up at the ferry when we arrived; drove us back to the ferry when we left. We liked our room - 202 - which had a balcony and a wonderful fjord view. And we enjoyed the breakfasts, which are included in the price, and had several kinds of fish (including delicious smoked salmon), breads, cereals, eggs, potatoes, fresh tomatoes, orange juice, good coffee - all with a fjord view from the dining room.

Review 105:If there is a better view in the world from a hotel room, I'd like to know where it is. Very quaint, low-key, quiet hotel on the fjord. Owner was extremely helpful with tips for town and subsequent travel suggestions. Loved it!

Review 106:Location with views to the fiord. Very confortable room. Staff very kind. They indicate were we can go for dinner as that night they have no open restaurant

Review 107:Jon the host was friendly, helpful and engaging. The view of the fjord from our room was drop-dead gorgeous, with a comfortable bed and balcony for relaxing. And the dinner was delicious and more than enough for the two of us - we took the leftovers with us for a hiking lunch the following day!

Review 108:The weather. Know what you are getting into. This is a very small town off-season.

Review 109:The view from my window! Fjord. The full moon in a cloudy evening sky. A dusting of snow on the far mountains.
