Reviews for Grand Hotel Royal

Review 1:This can be a 5 star hotel but decided to be a budget hotel. We love our morning coffee, great on day 1, on day 2 no coffee or milk, when I phoned Reception they informed me I should come down and sign for coffee sachets!!!! Please charge me £2 more per night! Breakfast was the worst in our 12 day trip of the Amalfi. Service during dinner and breakfast was.. OK, in the other places we stayed it was Great! I wanted to order drinks - no barman!!

Review 2:Very central and amazing views!!

Review 3:As in most Hotels the pricing structure of drinks and food consumed in the Hotel are too high encouraging people to go elsewhere.

Review 4:The staff make a hotel not the infrastructure, this is the Hotels strength and from the moment we arrived it was clear we were going to be looked after.

Review 5:Nothing!

Review 6:The staff were amazing, so helpful and friendly, excellent service, clean rooms, the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had and an all round wonderful Experience... Thanks to all at the Royal, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Sorrento!

Review 7:A kettle was provided, but if I was being really picky there were limited complimentary beverages and only cream. Would have liked milk for tea!

Review 8:Very comfortable room and good facilities, attentive and friendly staff, good location for circumvesuviana and bus station. Short level walk into town. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a huge selection.

Review 9:Service in restaurant on 1 night somewhat below par.

Review 10:Willing helpfulness of staff. Impressive quality of rooms and public areas. Amazing gardens and sea views. Fantastic breakfast service.

Review 11:Hotel manager had no idea of what customer service is. He was not accommodating my non smoking request. Was very rude and had a condescending attitude.

Review 12:the grounds and the pool and the restaurant

Review 13:No bad experience

Review 14:A beautiful hotel in the classic style. It looks out onto the bay but is a short walk to the town. Elegant dining options. Attentive and genuinely friendly staff.

Review 15:Beds had bugs. My daughter got bug bites all over her arms and legs.

Review 16:The staff was very nice. Breakfast amazing and the waiters were friendly. Beautiful grounds.

Review 17:Shame about the lack of coffee-making facilities. Pool was chilly in early September.

Review 18:Great breakfast. Spotlessly clean lovely room-cleaner. Beds wonderful, much more comfy than mine at home.

Review 19:Sister Hotels had free use of facilities, and this meant their were not always beds available for full paying guests!

Review 20:Fantastic location, beach one day pool side the next! Professional staff who respect their guests. We will return back to the Hotel for a quality holiday. Regards. Andy Gibbons.

Review 21:Wifi connection poor

Review 22:Perfect location.. Food excellent. Spotlessly clean and the staff were lovely and very helpful on local information. The wifi wasn't great and we ended up using 3G which was expensive.. That would be only point for them to improve on.

Review 23:People putting towels on loungers round the pool and by the sea but not sitting on them all day.

Review 24:Lovely hotel right in the centre of Sorrento, we were upgraded to a sea view room where the view was amazing over the Bay of Naples. The pool was lovely, as was the sea bathing platform. We stayed for 4 nights and would definitely return and recommend.

Review 25:The pool/swimming areas close too early... seems like they could be open longer.

Review 26:location, breakfast, and the option of the pool as well as the ocean swimming area

Review 27:Bed mattresses very firm!

Review 28:Perfect location, really good breakfast, friendly, helpful staff, spacious rooms, direct access to sea, large pool, comfortable sun beds, choice of tree-shaded terraces for lunch, amazing views

Review 29:My wife and I stayed here for the second year in a row, and as before we loved everything about this hotel. Excellent staff and superb service. Salvatore and Francesco made our pool days even better with top service at the pool bar.

Review 30:Pool and ocean pool were amazing. Staff so friendly. Beautiful view from room, with a comfortable bed and pillows. Air conditioning of room perfect. Great location to the Main Street full of restaurants and shops. Loved this hotel.

Review 31:Amazing hotel. Gorgeous breakfast. We stayed the first 2 nights of our honeymoon here and we couldn't have asked for better. The view from our balcony was breathtaking!

Review 32:The rooms are so old and dirty, The bathroom was disgusting. The breakfast looks good but everything is old, They use it from the previous days, The rooms really need a make-over, Really old, We really had a bad experience in this hotel, Staff is not friendly at all, It is way to exspensive for what you get and I'm really used to the 5 star luxury hotels, But this is beyond words how terrible it is.

Review 33:The only good thing about this hotel what I can say is good wifi, Bed and view. For the rest nothing.

Review 34:Hotel was in excellent location from train station with beautiful views of Sorrento and coast. Ocean swimming area was easy to access and enjoyable. Pool was exceptionally clean and staff was friendly. Menu for dinner was limited but food was very good.

Review 35:Poor swimming pool management (top level). It appears towels and possessions are not collected off chairs when people go off elsewhere for the day.The pool attendant didn't wish to give us towels when we asked and informed us, "the pool is full" - when there were only a few people actually in and around it but all the chairs were 'taken'. How about collecting abandoned towels off the chairs after half an hour and keeping abandoned possessions behind the bar for later collection?! So we went down to their bottom level sea pool which we enjoyed.

Review 36:Views from rooms are spectacular and the sea pool is great (compared to the pool at the top). The bed was good but you'd expect that for over 450 E a night. Breakfast and other service at the hotel was good and the staff very pleasant. A few minutes walk to shops and restaurants across the park.

Review 37:lack of sunbeds on beach terrace - I believe this is shared with a hotel La De Ville a short distance from The Grand Royal

Review 38:Excellent views of the Gulf Of Naples

Review 39:Bed was too hard and shower curtain kept blowing out of the bathtub. Also, bathroom needs upgrade to more modern fixtures.

Review 40:Location of the hotel is excellent, within short walking distance of Piazza Tasso.

Review 41:We loved everything about the hotel, great food, drinks, fabulous bed! The virws are amazing & the staff cannot do enough for you, woud definately recommend :-)

Review 42:This hotel does not accept cash which we were unaware of before we went and is not mentioned on their website. We took cash to pay for our stay and luckily had enough balance to pay on a card but not everyone may be in this position. Also, the hair dryers in the rooms were the worst I have ever encountered.

Review 43:Fabulous location in easy walking distance to Sorrento town.

Review 44:The only thing I would like would be to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 45:The hotel was perfectly situated for walking into Sorrento town and for catching boats, buses, trains etc. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, it had a feel of luxury and sense of peace and tranquility. The food was excellent, large comfortable bedroom. Lots of areas to sit and relax. Would love to return.

Review 46:Not applicable

Review 47:Excellent accomodation, polite and efficient staff, superb service and all areas of the Hotel are spotlessly clean. There is nothing not to like about this Hotel.

Review 48:Paying for extra tea and coffee sachets in room- ridiculous in a hotel of this standard!

Review 49:Location and breakfast and view from the balcony-amazing. Tour bus went from car park across the road. Easy to walk everywhere

Review 50:Only issue was people leaving towels on the loungers to keep them even though they were gone for hours. Should be managed better.

Review 51:Beautiful hotel, great service, fantastic views, very good location. Francesco serves up the next cocktails in Italy :-)

Review 52:The hotel provided tea and coffee on the first day, afterwards there was a charge for the drinks.

Review 53:Superb location near shops and restaurants. Hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens and has a private bathing platform. The hotel provides beach towels for the sun loungers.

Review 54:Great location, right in the centre of Sorrento. Good facilities - pool with a bar and a private "beach". Lovely balconies with great views of Vesuvius and the bay.

Review 55:short staffed all round with some long term staff having moved on; no wi fi at deck area; need 2 people on duty at deck area as too much work for one very overworked but excellent deck assistant

Review 56:The deck and pool The bedroom outstanding - 10 out of 10 friendliness of staff

Review 57:You'd have to try REALLY hard to find fault

Review 58:EXCELLENT staff all giving friendly unpretentious personal service. Hotel was beautiful with all luxuries, antique furnishings and attention to detail you'd expect from an established turn of century hotel. Gorgeous gardens, seaside sun deck (with lift), views breakfast, evening meals and pool.

Review 59:Our room was a bit small for 3 adults. We had an upgraded room with a balcony and it was very crowded. The beds almost touched each other and the walls.

Review 60:It was a beautiful, clean hotel with a magnificent view. The staff was great and you could not match the helpful staff.

Review 61:There was nothing I didn't like. The staff at the front desk were very helpful in translating a call to my Italian relatives inPoggiomarino Many thanks to Salvatore and Mauro.l

Review 62:Everything about our staff was top notch - no complaints.

Review 63:Beautifully furnished, romantic hotel with a spectacular terrace (including bar and restaurant) overlooking Bay of Naples. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.

Review 64:The price for the room that we had are much expensive The view was to the city, it is a nice view but the view to the sea is amazing and for the price we paid I should have this room

Review 65:Clean, staff, food, style, view,

Review 66:Nothing to add in this section!

Review 67:The room was incredible, very clean and comfortable and two balconies, one with a view of Sorrento and the other overlooking the Bay of Naples.

Review 68:Everything was amazing at the resort from the location, the grounds were amazing, the staff was very friendly and helpful communicated very well in English, and the rooms were beautiful large and quiet. My husband had such a dreamy and wonderful time, but it just wasn't long enough. We look forward to coming back one day soon!

Review 69:We had a room by the park area which could be a bit noisy at times with happy restaurant goers.

Review 70:The breakfast was fantastic. The views were amazing. The staff were very helpful.

Review 71:Maybe bed could be better quality , not so hard.

Review 72:Loved the location , the hotel is beautiful and the scenery and deck magnificent. Enjoyed our day on the deck and swimming .

Review 73:Nothing

Review 74:This hotel is located within a short walk of all the facilities & charm Sorrento has to offer. Inside it oozes quality & is representative of the local area.

Review 75:Bed was too hard No Tea and Coffee Making facilities in-room Tiled floor no carpets Late night party noise downstairs in bar until 01:30 - badly disrupted sleep. Feel the hotel should have taken action

Review 76:Sea Views Hotel staff very friendly Great food Beautiful setting

Review 77:Parking fee of €21 a day

Review 78:Everything, the terrace, the view every morning and evening just sitting, looking to Vesuv, very friendly stuff, nice room, and SALVATORE, the barkeeper, making our holidays special!

Review 79:Beautiful old grand hotel, tastefully decorated, very friendly staff, ideally located in town and with respect to surrounding attractions: Capri, Costa Amalfitana, Pompei and Naples. What more could you ask for?

Review 80:The bell service left a dome light on in my vehicle and when I try to start my vehicle my batterey was dead. The hotel had to call a mechanic to give me a jump and I had to come out of pocket to pay the mechanic. I also thought the meal prices were a bit pricey and were not able to order individual items.

Review 81:Location of the hotel was very good but the view was not very good. I thought i was going to have an ocean view but ended up with a street view.

Review 82:Nothing.

Review 83:Extremely hospitable and professional staff; excellent breakfast, secured parking, convenient and quiet location, comfortable bed, easy access to high speed wifi in the clean and spacious room. Highly recommended.

Review 84:The lift to the beach was closed because late in season. Not a big problem in late October but it would have been nice to know in advance.

Review 85:Beautiful hotel with terrace looking across Bay of Naples. Staff friendly and polite. Decor excellent. Short walk from train and bus services. Very handy for trips to Pompeii, Positano and other places. Easy walk to main square for restaurants etc and to ferry for trip to Capri. The extra for a sea view room is worth it.

Review 86:Well having to pay extra for later departure when the hotel was closing for end of season the weekend we left. That was disappointing !!!!

Review 87:The friendly staff. Also easy to get to centre. The view from terrace. I would certainly stay at The Grand Hotel again.

Review 88:-5 minutes walk to Main Square -2 minutes to main train and bus station where you can take the buses to Naples, amalfi, Positano etc... -Good size rooms, quite, lovely view

Review 89:Beautiful hotel with great taste in every detail. Totally European flair to it....excellent breakfast buffet, very elegant, walking distance to the main piazza....too bad we only stayed 2 nights....

Review 90:We suffered a large number of insect bites whilst in Sorrento, although there is no proof that they were related to the hotel itself.

Review 91:The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. They remembered all our likes and dislikes, and were always cheerful.

Review 92:Wifi connection was annoying. Had to go to front desk twice. If you switched to airplane mode, you had to sign up all again. The hotel needs a room renovation - it's old and long in tooth.

Review 93:Breakfast

Review 94:The staff catered to our every need. The property is spectacular. The food is plentiful and amazing. Thank you Antonino, Mario, Ricardo and so many others for making our stay so fabulous!

Review 95:Heavy doors and tiled floors made it very noisy through night if people were leaving for early flights etc. restaurant in the evening was overpriced and lacked atmosphere

Review 96:Pool, beach terrace, outside areas, room was very clean. Breakfast buffet good plenty of choice

Review 97:The smell of the room, especially the bathroom. The pool closed at 7pm. After being out touring all day you couldn't enjoy a swim. It was an expensive hotel for what you got.

Review 98:The view of our room was Mt. Vesuvius and the morning breakfast

Review 99:Not a lot really 1. other guests will reserve loungers around the pool with personal items despite the hotel's restriction on this practice. So when you want a quite day at the hotel do the same 2. evening meals are a little more expensive (compared to Sorrento) and not particularly inspiring. For my son's birthday we dined at their Sorrentine Evening. It took 90 min to be served but we were not in a hurry. If this will bother you then do not bother. There are many excellent restaurants within walking distance with excellent food and generally good service. 3. be wary of the budget short stay guest. I went early to breakfast (awaiting wife and children) and put my glass on an unoccupied window table; the accepted way of indicating occupation of a table whilst you return having waited for your eggs, etc. Upon my return a single glass of arange had appeared. I put down my breakfast and went to get some cake. Upon my return my breakfast had been removed to another table and an English mother/grandmother and daughter/granddaughter waved me away. They only stayed another other day and probably did the same trick the following morning with somebody else.

Review 100:1. welcoming staff who speak good English 2. excellent views of the Bay of Naples (you will kick yourself for any other room!) 3. staff got to know us personally; a very nice touch 4. eggs at breakfast cooked any way you like 5. bottle of fizzy wine and fruit in the rooms when we arrived in the evening

Review 101:coming home!

Review 102:Everything..! Vintage glamour, gorgeous old worlde style decor, classic and beautiful. Mr Russo and all the staff were amazing, very friendly, helpful and welcoming. :-) Beautiful room, delicious food and amazing views. Great location too a short walk into the main square. :-)

Review 103:No small glass of water served with an espresso (which is always served in Italy in every bar - was asked to buy a bottle costing 4 euros!). Pricing for coffee was ridiculous!! 3.50 euro for a single espresso!! After checking out we wanted to use a room before flight, we had to carry our heavy luggage two flights of stairs to the courtesy room, porter did not offer to help (as it was only just me and my daughter travelling!).

Review 104:The hotel was in an excellent location; in the centre of everything. Views were amazing from terrace and we had our own private beach. Breakfast was up to a high standard and service was good. Rooms were very clean and up to a good standard. Wi-Fi was given free and was available in most of the hotel.

Review 105:Dangerous sunbeds, Sunbathing too close to ferry terminal with lots of fumes, Sunbeds were reserved but not used and its a hotel rule that sunbeds should not be reserved by towels, this was not monitored at all, The food was not of the quality I would expect from a 5 star hotel, drinks and food were a bit pricey, couldn't get late room service although it was requested, There was no coffee or tea making facilities in room

Review 106:Room was very comfortable, Reception staff were excellent, breakfast staff were excellent, Booking in was quick and painless, Location was very romantic and ideally situated for walking into town

Review 107:Bed was not all that comfortable. Place seemed to be stuck in life from a few decades ago. From the decor to the music to the staff uniforms etc. I think that is not unusual at all for the area though and probably not unique to this hotel.

Review 108:Location is amazing, dock/beach is great. Some staff were friendly.

Review 109:Disappointing lack of facilities that one expects in a hotel room of this standard. No complimentary water, no iron, no kettle or coffee making facilities - told to ring for room service or use the laundry! No dressing gown or slippers. Limited seating in the pool area, so needed to reserve a seat before breakfast

Review 110:The grandeur of the hotel particularly the furniture. The magnificent location and the ocean views. Breakfast very good although bacon was almost raw.

Review 111:most of the staff were not really helpful, informed nor really friendly (they would say hello, nor smile, nor try to proactively help with good, not self-serving recommendations), food was really mediocre for Italy

Review 112:the location, the view, the beach, the pool

Review 113:Service for food at lunchtime was slow but this was the Kitchen not the staff

Review 114:Lovely position and near the town only 300 metres walk Facilities also very good

Review 115:The main dislike is slow service at the terrace restaurant during lunch,on two occasions. The food was also rather expensive and did not reflectthe "gourmet" description advertised by the hotel itself onBooking.com.

Review 116:We stayed for only 2 nights, and did not want to leave. Superb staff, excellent breakfast, facilities 100% and the locations could hardly bebetter. We will return next summer, and then for one week. Sorrentoitself is a dream.

Review 117:Rooms small for the price Ants in the room Air-condition did not work that well Costs for room service were exorbitant. (Five euros to get ice delivered. 10 euros to order up tea)

Review 118:View Hotel Lobby and restaurant was good Breakfast was amazing Staff friendly

Review 119:Hotel lacked atmosphere, staff polite but not friendly, a smile doesn't take much effort! We ate at the restaurant once, food no better than anywhere else, but expensive. Had 2 luxury rooms with sea view, our room was a triple but was too small for a third bed and the balcony was tiny. Bathroom really small and old. Certainly no element of luxury apart from view. Dread to think what standard rooms are like! Pool was nice and shaded if you had small children and didn't want them getting too much sun. Always hard to find a sunbed though. Airport transfer was 6:00am on so we ordered a packed breakfast to take away, but on the morning in question, no breakfast and no apology! We had a good holiday but thought the hotel was 3* standard and not worth the money.

Review 120:Location, close to Piazzo Tasso ( centre of Sorrento), great views from sea view rooms. Sunbathing deck was nice and could swim in the sea.

Review 121:The value for money. Reception staff was not particularly interested or helpful. No tea and coffee facilities in the room. More outlets needed to plug in iPhone, etc. The sea was some days to dirty to swim.

Review 122:Great location, wonderful view from cliff top. Lovely swimming platform and private beach. Easy walk to town centre, shopping, restaurants or to train station. Ideal starting point for excursions to Vesuv, Pompeji or Amalfi.

Review 123:they promised ( for this very expensive rate) rooms with city view ! we got 3 rooms downstairs - by the pool - with a view of a brick wall ... felt like the staff rooms...

Review 124:location

Review 125:Because of the marble/tile flooring in hallways, you can hear everything. Pretty quiet at night, though, since this hotel tends to cater to older clientele.

Review 126:Great location and a very easy walk to the city square. The hotel was beautiful with a great breakfast. Good size rooms with great bathrooms. We traveled with another family and had 4 adults and 4 teenagers. Very safe area and let the girls(heading to college in the fall) go to dinner on their own. Easy to navigate area. Definitely would stay here again. We stayed in a deluxe triple with sea view and my daughter and her friend stayed in a standard double which was equally as nice.

Review 127:Lunch time food very good in both restaurants but wouldn't recommend dinner.

Review 128:Excellent location, near to the centre of Sorrento and with fabulous views of the bay. Staff were all very helpful.

Review 129:-no parking, only valet service for 20 euros a night -beds were old and not the most comfortable

Review 130:-Location was great with a beautiful view of the ocean and Mount Vesuvius -Restaurants and breakfast buffet were pretty good -Nice property grounds with lots of charm

Review 131:For a four star hotel the bathrooms are substandard the shower rose is too high to access and a shower curtain over the bath is unacceptable The lack of understanding by staff to make a decent coffee was disappointing as not everyone wants American coffe

Review 132:Location and grounds. Breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable The staff in the breakfast area were pleasant and helpful

Review 133:Everything was wonderful at this hotel. It is a beautiful place to stay and just a short walk to wonderful shops and great places to eat. It's a bit pricey, but it was well worth it for a short stay. Fabulous breakfasts!

Review 134:Loved everything about this hotel. Location was great and our room had a view of the sea which was amazing. Didn't want to leave. Would go back again.

Review 135:We were very happy with the room and the view from the huge balcony well worth the upgrade. The staff a reception were so helpfull nothing was too much trouble. The waiters at breakfast were so patient and dealt well even when some customers failed to acknowledge their smiling Buon Giorno. We would go back Thank you to everyone.
