Reviews for Hotel Retro
Review 1:Very dark rooms and no extras like shower gel and shampoo. Air con did not work so room was very cold.
Review 2:The location is good for business or tourist visitors.
Review 3:The heating or air conditioning made the air in the room super dry and gave us sore throats
Review 4:The room was impeccable, and the brasserie opposite the hotel was fantastic for us and our baby, even at dinner time
Review 5:The heating was up to high and the pressure in the shower not that fantastic.
Review 6:Location is great, beds super comfortable and the bathroom nicely designed. Staff are there 24:7 which is also nice.
Review 7:The staff were so nice and helpful. Nice eatery across the street and a small market next door. 20min easy walk to Grand Palace market area. Couple blocks from metro. Room was usual european size and great to have an elevator (cant assume that in Europe).
Review 8:The rooms are quite small and the services weird. I had to pay in advance when I checked in. Also, when asking for a soda they reception replied that they only have water and coffee.
Review 9:The hotel was very clean and a 15 min walk to the center. It is next to the metro stop Botanique.
Review 10:My room (on the 4th floor) smelled like the kitchen due to a very bad ventilation system. Could not sleep after 08.00 due to breakfast smells. Also I would suggest a signing on the shower door on how to open it as it is not clear.
Review 11:Great location, 100m from Botanique metro and main sites (Grand Place, City 2) are close and accessible on foot. Nice, helpful, eager and polite staff, from my reservation to the check out. Very comfortable and clean room, wonderful shower and hot water throughout the day. Last but not least, super fast internet.
Review 12:electricity broke down several times (esp. in the bath room), but personal was able to fix it in a decent - but hair drying was a problem without power.
Review 13:Near to city center, modern furnishing, elevator, daily room cleaning, daily fresh towels, comfortable double bed.
Review 14:Nothing specific. From the street location and appearance you do wonder what is inside. Once in it is a bit basic but has a certain charm.
Review 15:The room and Bathroom were very large and spacious. The rooms were clean, staff friendly and breakfast was good.
Review 16:On the 1st night at 22:30 when returning to the room there was no hot water.I let it run for over 10 minutes hoping it would get warmer - it was as cold as the cold water. It was very inconvenient after a long flight to not be able to take a shower. There is no one at the reception after 21 to let them know about this issue. The next morning the hot water returned. The squeaking of the floors.Like some other travelers have said, if there is someone in the room above you (we were on the 3rd floor), each step they make can be heard. It sounds very very loud, you can't sleep through it. At first I thought they were having a "good time" with all the noise coming from the room above. Turns out the poor lad was only making his luggage and moving around the room. No breakfast due to the high price per day 15 euros.
Review 17:Only 15 minutes away from the city center. Close to the metro 4 and 6 which means you can easily move around to distant parts of the city. Very clean, spacious rooms. Easy check-in and check out.
Review 18:Could be cleaner.
Review 19:"Simple but good". Nice rooms though a bit small, excellent bathroom, whole hotel only basicly equipped though modern and a bit stylish, perfect for max. 3 nights. Central location with easy access to down-town Brussels and public transport. Could be a bit cleaner. Very good price-value relation
Review 20:We struggled a bit with managing hot water in the shower, but it wasnt that big of a deal.
Review 21:Really nice and cozy hotel with helpful staff. Room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated.
Review 22:location (shabby neighborhood), very average breakfast possibilities, one of the rooms we had was smelling bad.
Review 23:big rooms, good value for price, 20 minutes walk to the shops in the city center
Review 24:No one was there at 7.10 am in a dark breakfast room. Had to switch the light on myself and ask reception (as they told me breakfast is open at 7 am). then I had to wait a little for the staff to bring the food for the breakfast buffet table No light at the desk in the room the window could not shut properly (or simply had small gaps) and the noise from the street kept me awake at night.
Review 25:location (Jardin Botanique) and proximity of metro station Good food (breakfast) comfortable bed good shower (note: the marble tile as the soap tray with the sharp corner sticking out looked dangerous...)
Review 26:What a wonderful little jewel Hotel Retro is. Beautiful big room with a lovely view over the Botanical Gardens. The hotel is very close to the tram lines and the metro so easy access to the city. Friendly staff and a very clean room too!
Review 27:Very nice location, next to the Botanical Garden; not in but close to the city center (walking distance) Good value for money, especially for Brussels.
Review 28:price of breakfast
Review 29:Great location : 10-15 min walk from center and you have everything you need nearby(restaurants, supermarket, metro station) Good and free wireless internet Great value for money ( compared to other hotels in the zone)
Review 30:Wood floor not very solid, makes sound when step on it. Shawer water's temperature not consistent, always become a bit colder then a bit hot
Review 31:Nice rooms, nice staffs, value worth
Review 32:Dark room with poor lighting (one of the wall light fixtures was missing, wires were hanging out); only one pillow for each person (I've stayed at countless hotels and there's always at least 2 pillows for each person)
Review 33:Location, quiet boutique hotel, close to metro station/bus station, about 15 minute walk to Grand Place, restaurants/attractions, room was sufficient for what we needed (just a place to sleep and store our luggage)
Review 34:The price of the room was high given the type of room and the location of the hotel (not very central). The process of creating an invoice was rather inflexible. I also found the price of the breakfast absurd (15euros/day/person) though maybe it is just a bit high for Brussels standards.
Review 35:Nice spacious rooms, comfortable beds, good WiFi, located a 10 minutes walk to Brussels Noord.
Review 36:Toilet seat located so close to the sink that there is no space to feel comfortable at this special moment. Moreover, unpleasant odor in the shower. A ceiling very thin and we heard walking people who were on the 4th floor.
Review 37:Hotel is located in the quiet part of the city (mostly occupied by Turkey and Morocco citizens). You can reach by walk the city centre in 15 minutes. Close to the the hotel there is a metro station (150 meters). We didn't eat the breakfast co I cannot say anything about its quality. On the ground floor of the building (from the main street side) there is a Carrefour Express shop. It's very convenient solution for those, who didn't order the breakfast. On the street in front of the hotel entrance you can find nice Turkish restaurants where dishes are really tasty. The reception desk staff was neutral. Every day new sachets of tea and coffee. The ratio of price to quality is good enough to recommend this hotel as a good stay for short visit in Bruxelles.
Review 38:Only one chair in the room, not enough hangers for clothes in the wardrobe. Всего один стул в номере, что неудобно, когда живешь вдвоем. Кроме того, не хватало вешалок в шкафу. Окна выходили на шумную улицу, что, впрочем, можно исправить, закрыв окно и включив кондиционер.
Review 39:Very friendly personnel. Though we arrived earlier than the chek-in time, they found a room.for us. There is a refrigerator, a kettle and everything for tea and coffee. Location is very good: only 15 min. on foot to the center, the tram also available. Also arond 15 min. of walk to Brussell Noord railway station.
Review 40:The hotel is perfect for the prices offered. The staff is friendly and responsive. Rooms are spacious and very clean. The location is great - 10 to 15 minutes walking distance from the city center, there is a metro station next to the hotel and is very easy to find. I can recommend it and for sure will be staying there if coming back to Brussels!
Review 41:Pillows like rocks. Bedside table fully occupied by enormous ineffective lamps. Lighting slightly inadequate in room. Nothing serious.
Review 42:Friendly and helpful staff, good location. Only the second hotel in Brussels I will bother returning to. Further upsides - sensibly priced breakfast (very rare in Brussels). Also - quiet room! Despite being beside a tramline, the hotel was quiet and i was not disturbed by outside noise (also very rare in Brussels). Good water pressure and temperature. Properly contemporary internal fixtures and fittings to good standard.
Review 43:No restaurant or bar in the hotel to have a quick drink or bite. Quite expensive for just B&B but this the story in Brussels I guess; extremely overpriced city.
Review 44:Clean, quiet, fair price for Brussels, very large and comfortable room, close to city centre.
Review 45:Other visitors say it as well: the smell in the bathroom. The hotel has obviously some sewerage problems.
Review 46:Location. Cleanness. WiFi. Good value for money.
Review 47:We didn't really dislike anything as this really suited our needs but to help other people be more comfortable - only 2 out of 4 lanps in the room worked so it was a little dark, there was only one towel each and only one mirror, we couldn't get the room to be cool and the hotel was very warm despite it being coat weather outside, had to sleep with a fan on. You get one memory foam pillow, I loved it but my husband didn't.
Review 48:The location was pretty good, a 15-20 minute walk to the centre, felt like a quirky/trendy and safe enough area. Hotel is a above a shop so although (to our knowledge) there were no facilities within in - you could grab a croissant from the shop!
Review 49:The noise from the street outside was loud which made it difficult to drift off. It was difficult to control the temperature of the room because the air conditioning wasn't very powerful.
Review 50:The Hotel was really clean and well presented, the decor was really nice and we really enjoyed our stay. It's excellent value for money and the staff were very accommodating.
Review 51:First impressions don't match up with the high quality of the rooms. Entrance does look a bit like a hostel, but room quality is high.
Review 52:Good location, comfortable room, great wifi
Review 53:Hotel is near quite busy street, but you can use AC and close windows for night.
Review 54:-Very comfy bad and spacious room. -Carrefour in the same buidling is a huge adventage:) -Really pretty botanical garden across the street. -About 30 minutes to city center. -Metro station 2 minutes from the hotel.
Review 55:The air-conditioning did not work. This meant the room was very hot, even with the windows open.
Review 56:Bathroom was large and clean. Good shower. Internet was also hassle free, just requiring registering once.
Review 57:Minor noise from outside and room above Breakfast a little over-priced, but enjoyable nonethelsess
Review 58:Comfortable room with interesting decor Blackout curtains
Review 59:There was a sewer smell in the bathroom and the water in the flush wasbrown like it came from the sewer. Never in my life I have seen this, itwas disgusting. The bed was not a king bed as described in thehotel's booking.com page but rather 2 single beds close to eachother that separated easily. Low water pressure in the shower madeshowering a difficult task. Some of the towels had stains on them whichis unacceptable for any hotel. The hotel was in a rough neighbourhoodand right next to the red district so I didn't feel safe walkingthere at night. Last but not least, I asked for a quiet room and the oneI got was right next to the street in a low floor (2nd floor). As aresult, it was very noisy sine the windows were also not sound proof. There was no way I could sleep with the windows open so it was too hotin the room during the night. Overall, it was a rather unpleasantexperience and it was definitely not worth the price paid (about 100EUR/per night).
Review 60:The location is convenient as it is close to a metro station. The roomwas nicely decorated and looks new unlike the building. The staff wasfriendly and polite. The hotel is right next to a supermarket so no needto pay for the pricey breakfast. Fridge with complimentary bottled wateralong with tea and coffee making facilities.
Review 61:There was no cofe-machine in Executive Double Room Deluxe, though it was in the list of room facilities.
Review 62:Good and clean rooms. Excellent location. Cafe and shops near hotel.
Review 63:- Expensive breakfast (15 EUR) - Heavy bedcover
Review 64:- Free bottles of water every day - Clean - New bathroom - Very kind staff - Upstairs from a grocery shop, which is open already early in the morning - Quiet room away from the main street - Good connection with the underground (Botanique station)
Review 65:Air conditioning, elevator, large shower cabin, free bottled water in the mini fridge, metro station around the corner, grocery store downstairs, free luggage storage after check-out. Spotlessly clean and well-maintained room/bathroom with good quality furnishings/linen.
Review 66:Location is perfect, Botanique Garden is just on the other side of the street, and the city centre is real close too. Hotel staff is very helpfull, rooms are clean and stylish :)
Review 67:La chambre était spacieuse, bien décorée. La salle de bain était également grande, bénéficiant d'une fenêtre apportant une agréable lumière naturelle.
Review 68:- slight smell of "old" air in the room - apparent when entering the room for the first time. It worth to ventilate by window time by time
Review 69:- location - design - staff
Review 70:We didn't like the pillows, they were rock hard foam and also very small with only one each.
Review 71:We liked the room and location a lot. Can easily walk into the centre.
Review 72:No iron,
Review 73:Close to the metro, 1 min walk. Opposite botanical garden. There is a supermarket just below with croicroissants, fresh salads. Staff very friendly and helpful.lift. Room had massive bed. Bathroom tiled with marble and big conftable shower. blackout curtains great and double glazed windows buffered outside noise. Kettle and free water
Review 74:Air conditioning didn't work. So hot & sticky in the room. Opening the windows didn't help.
Review 75:Friendly staff. Parking just up the road. Very comfortable bed. Large room. Great bathroom.
Review 76:The city centre can be over crowded on weekends.
Review 77:Thw hotel was nice overall. Fantastic staff and location. A bit of a walk to most sites, but because of that, it allowed for a quieter more relaxed atmosphere.
Review 78:The bed was a bit hard, the pillows weren't that good. Heard" a lot "of street noise.
Review 79:Very good price for value! The staff was very friendly, very good accommodation! And the location is almost perfect. Next to the botanique, and a 10 min walk from the city centre and all the must-sees!
Review 80:The location on top of a Carrefour is great! The hotel is small but cozy. The bathroom was rather small but ok. The bed was comfy and the wifi was great.
Review 81:Our roof top room was very small and narrow. It was very noisy outside because of th concert in Botanic that night.
Review 82:Botanic parc is very close. I like it.
Review 83:if you're not keen on walking to the Grand Place or any other place for some supper, your only options are kebabs, pizzas or supermarket fare in the immediate surroundings.
Review 84:the staff were incredibly nice and accommodating. the property itself is beautifully decorated and feels like a modern home.
Review 85:Sewer smell in bathroom (the water in the flush seemed some kind of recycled sewer), in-room safe not working, the lightest no in the corridor will be heard in the room.
Review 86:Location, breakfast, free wi-fi, fairly comfortable room
Review 87:nothing
Review 88:Room was very clean, comfortable bed, big shower. We got special offer which was great. we didnt spend a lot in the room, but we were cheerful.
Review 89:Breakfast is a bit expensive (15 euros), but I guess it's a policy of the city.
Review 90:Generally very good. Close to the metro with connection to the whole city and very confortable for a fair price.
Review 91:The price of the breakfast is to expensive but since you have a minimarket bellow you don't need to worry! :)
Review 92:Very clean room and great staff always ready to help! Big beds and good decoration. One of the best hotels I've been in Europe!
Review 93:I have warned the reception that I would arrive very late, around 0.30 am. I received their confirmation that the reception is open 24/7, but when I arrived, the hotel's door was closed and I had needed to call a number, wait around 10 minutes, for someone to arrive from outside the hotel an open it. The area is a bit rough and it's not be best place for a woman to be standing on the street. There were many apologies in the morning, supposelly one person was ill, but I recommend care to other travellers, especially woman in similar situations. Otherwise, I really enjoy this hotel!
Review 94:It is the second time I stay in the nice and well decorated hotel, which I consider an excellent value for money. The rooms are very well decorated in a comtemporary way and are quite large.
Review 95:The room was a bit noisy owing to the traffic outside (street noise and trams).
Review 96:Very good location, easy access to the centre or the European Quarter. Comfortable room with coffee and tea making facilities, spacious bed and efficient heating.
Review 97:The bed was actually 2 beds close to each other that separated easily. My husband actually fell between them and we had a great laugh. The bathroom door did not close properly.
Review 98:It is very close to the subway, very clean, the staff is friendly. You have 2 bottles of water free of charge, some instant cofee and hot cocoa. The internet works but is very slow. Still, it is usefull. There is a supermarket just downstairs. It is a very nice hotel and i would recommend it.
Review 99:The staff were friendly and helpful, room was nice and clean and only a 15 min walk to Brussels Center. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Brussels and highly recommend this to young couples on a long weekend!
Review 100:We needed to stay for one night and get on an early flight the next morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and everything was as had been described. The room was small but clean and everything worked.
Review 101:smells like sewer in the shower room and the area of sorrounding hotel wasn't good if you walk at night especially if you bring kids or come with only girls.
Review 102:close to station, good breakfast, comfortable bed.
Review 103:Weak water pressure in the showers
Review 104:Conveniently located to public transport and walking distance to city center, friendly staff, nicely fitted out and clean room, convenience store located on the ground floor around the corner and a kebab shop across the road with open till midnight with one of the best chicken kebabs we've ever tried.
Review 105:Excellent in all aspect - very good location as it is close to the train and subway stations, friendly and helpful staff, and value for money. I'll give it an A.
Review 106:Only 1 thing which was the 2 massive windows could fully open. No problem for me as I'm an adult but people with small children....could be a disaster waiting to happen. Need to restrict how far the windows open for safety sake.
Review 107:Clean, crisp, good value, friendly staff...awsome!
Review 108:A little bit too much heat with no possibility to turn off completely the heater.
Review 109:Excellent staff, very cozy and clean room at 5th floor. We stayed only one night and it was very good.
Review 110:Streetnoise in the room (ok with earplugs). Not possible to sleep with window open. Beds too hard for me. No bottled water in the room.
Review 111:The breakfast: excellent quality espresso, good dark bread, different cheeses and meats, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables. Close to metro.
Review 112:Shower didn't work - it needed replacing. Room was cramped on one side because of slanting ceiling - I'm 6ft and I banged my head a few times. Breakfast was very expensive at 15 euros per person.. Wi-fi only worked for one person - so both of us could not connect our phones.
Review 113:Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was warm and clean. Bed was comfortable. 15 minutes walk from centre of Brussels.
Review 114:Recommend this hotel to stay in Brussels. Very comfortable and clean room with wi-fi, safe, free bottles of water, tea, coffee, cocoa and sugar. Hotel is situated near Botanic Garden. There is the grocery store «Carrefour» at the first floor in the same building.
Review 115:The bed looked like king size bed but it was two mattress side by side. They kept separating throughout the nights and made a huge crack in the center of the bed...
Review 116:Fair hotel for 3 star. Spacious room
Review 117:- The area of Brussels is not that beautiful but the location was perfect for where I needed to be. - Breakfast was announced at 7:15 but a big part of food was only brought up at 7:30
Review 118:- Extremely friendly staff at the reception, very helpful - Room was nice, good size and with modern bathroom - Breakfast was good for the price (15 euros)
Review 119:executive room big enough anatomic pillow and very clean sheet without "hotel's smell) excellent location(close to metro and close enough to city centre for a 15min walk) polite staff
Review 120:the location, the friendly staff, cleanliness of the room, tea and coffee making facilities, free bottled water in the fridge, strong espresso in the breakfast room,
Review 121:There was no shower curtain, despite hooks for one, not sure of this was intended or a slight oversight of the cleaner- there was a small screen so it wasn't a huge issue.
Review 122:A spontaneous NYE trip, we were very happy to get a hotel at all, let alone one so reasonable. A 15-20 min walk from the centre, we were very pleased with our stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the hotel reception and room itself were very clean. Room was small, but perfect for our needs- plenty of plug points, a small fridge with complementary water (& space for own drinks) and a comfortable bed.
Review 123:Could be noisy due to heavy traffic.
Review 124:Perfect stay for a few nights! Staff very friendly and helpful. Very comfy bed in a pleasantly decorated, good sized room.Very clean bathroom. Carrefour shop just downstairs and with small fridge in the room made up for rather pricey breakfast. Complimentary bottles of water and tea and coffee facilities are nice touch. Convenient location - walking distance from main attractions also great for metro/buses/train.
Review 125:There are no shops, good restaurants or nice places to go nearby (except a Carrefour express next door) but at least the hotel is very close to the metro, about 3 minutes walk.
Review 126:The staff is the highlight. They couldn't do better to help you. The hotel is actually a surprise: you see a small door in a darkish street when you arrive but then inside it unfolds into a very spacious and modern, nicely decorated hotel.Very close to the metro Botanique.
Review 127:bathroom, entrance and elevator smelled not nice. The bathroom design is just miscalculated for the space, if you're tall sitting on the toile will be a challenge :) Too expensive for what it is
Review 128:Watch out for the attic rooms. Too hot. And noisy if you open windows. Pillows are those memory foam - alright if you're used to them. I'm not!
Review 129:Nicely renovated rooms.
Review 130:Very conveniently situated near Botanic Garden. 15-30 minutes’ walk to main sightseeings, close to metro, tram, grocery store is in same building. Rooms are clean, tea facilities in room, free water, convenient bed, good conditioning. We had room with view to the street with tram, but sound isolation was normal and noise from street didn't disturbed.
Review 131:From previous reviews I had expected a reasonable quality hotel. On entering the very sad looking doorway, there were two Turkish women sitting drinking coffee. The reception desk was just a small counter at the end of a narrow corridor. The whole place had a dank smell and when the window was opened in the room it was impossible to sleep due to the street noise. Wi-fi did not work in the room and it was necessary to go to the restaurant to use it. I took a walk around the block and could easily have been in Istanbul - I have nothing against Istanbul but my visit was to Brussels and not Turkey. My car had to be parked in a public underground parking and only just fitted through the barriers.
Review 132:Nothing.
Review 133:Nothing, it was wonderful
Review 134:Lovely helpful staff, modern clean room, perfect wifi, coffee facilities in room, good TV, quiet rooms, ony a few minutes from a metro stop, above a supermarket, value for money, plug sockets by the bed!
