Reviews for Grand Hotel Capodimonte
Review 1:We stayed at the end of October and the staff in the main restaurant seemed to be getting ready for the shut down.
Review 2:Big, clean ,comfortable room with balcony and great view. The reception staff were really helpful. The hotel is a five minute walk from the narrow streets packed with shops and restaurants. The Amalfi Drive tour with Luca was fabulous!!
Review 3:Nothing really. Perhaps a larger choice at breakfast, but really it was enough.
Review 4:A very warm welcome, very professional and helpful front-desk staff. This made a huge difference to us and we were very grateful of the information the staff provided when it came to us arranging our various trips.
Review 5:Fantastic location, with superb views of the gulf, and city, easy walk into the centre, lovely hotel, staff were extremely helpful, rooms immaculate, and food superb. Nothing not to like.
Review 6:More suitable for older persons rather than families nothing for kids to do in October. Breakfast only average I ve had better at 3 star hotels abroad and Premier Inns here.
Review 7:Staff very friendly and hotel is very clean
Review 8:My room was very clean and comfortable but there was some mold on the ceiling in the bath room, I suspect due to lack of ventilation. It bothered me as I felt the hotel was very attentive in all other areas.
Review 9:The hotel was beautiful and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 10:We only stopped one night not long enough to enjoy the various facilities except to note that the pool had leaves in, yes it was October and as such they should have been cleared out. Also during the day we had to ask reception for bar service as we sat in the long for 15 minutes before anyone appeared.
Review 11:The hotel was very grand and had lots of ornate feature. There was an amazing corridor which connected the lift to level 11. Our room was classic in style and had a view of the Mediterranean bush and slight city views. The room was spacious enough and had every thing you need. Our room was available before time so the was a bonus. Breakfast was average and if you wanted cooked breakfast it was kept warm in a hot covered tureen. The views over Sorrento were stunning.
Review 12:Hotel was lovely in a beautiful setting, walking distance to town. Fantastic breakfast . Staff very helpful and friendly . Would go back at a drop of a hat.
Review 13:Efficious gruff greeting at check in. Not at all welcoming. Not all the staff but one male in particular.
Review 14:The old world grandeur, the views and location. Great spot to get the views but still have access to the main shopping strip and marina. We had young children and buggy and didn't find the hill to town difficult to manage but others might.
Review 15:The rain while we were in Sorrento.
Review 16:Everything. But the staff was superb. The man who was in charge of breakfast on a very crazy, rainy day,Thursday during our stay I think, did an incredible job under difficult circumstance. And he was working dinner that evening. And still pleasant and so professional.
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:Beautiful views to be seen from everywhere in the hotel from outdoors to the bar and restaurant Great facilities Very helpful and knowledgeable staff who were keen to help assist in booking day trips/dinners and excursions Would definitely stay here again!
Review 19:The hotel is beautiful and the staff could not have been more accommodating. We decided to stay an extra night and we moved to another room. This was a suite with a spectacular view of the water and Sorrento. Very luxurious. We could not have been happier!! The hotel is close to everything.
Review 20:Would have preferred the pool water to be a little warmer. The cold temperature was a bit uncomfortable and not many people were in the water, even though the weather was quite warm during our stay.
Review 21:We had a very nice room. Great bed and view overlooking pools and bay. Lobby and outdoor areas provide a super neat atmosphere. Outstanding buffet assortment for breakfast. Casual 10 minute walk to center of town, shops, and great places to eat.
Review 22:Bus groups filled the space but detracted only slightly fom the ambiance.
Review 23:Room 1107 was spacious with a glorious view. The piano bar was elegant and the pianist was charming. The restaurant was very good but not great. Roberta at the desk was immensely helpful.
Review 24:Stunning views. Well located. Very clean throughout; good facilities including beautiful terraces and pools; extremely comfortable bed and bedlinen. Helpful staff. Breakfast was superb!
Review 25:No tea making facilities in the room and the hot water for tea at breakfast was only warm and not good for tea.
Review 26:The most amazing views from all parts of the hotel and the wonderful, helpful staff
Review 27:Didn't like the 21 Euro per day fee for parking.
Review 28:Beautiful hotel! We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and enjoyed our stay very much! The staff was very friendly and helpful- helped us book a trip, reserve restaurants, etc.The pool area is amazing!!! We spent 2 days laying out there by the sun. The hotel restaurant (by the pool) was really good!!! We ate there lunch and dinner- recommended! The rooms are very nice. The location was the best! Although it is a few minute walk from the center (but really only 5-10 min!) it was great because the center of Sorrento is very busy and noisy. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel and will probably stay again if we come back :)
Review 29:No bad experiences.
Review 30:Friendly and competent staff in a somewhat classic style hotel. I would not be surepriced if I met an famous acter from the 60-70ies in this hotel.
Review 31:Our room was directly below the conference room so very noisy when the room was being used and also the following morning (07h30)when the staff were cleaning up the woke us up. The manager we spoke to was very rude and not interested in our complaint. The wifi was rubbish and never connected anywhere in the hotel. The breakfast was nothing special for what you pay. The hotel is defiantly not worth the price they charge. The rooms are on so many levels if you are on 2nd or 3rd floor you are very close to the road so it will be noisy.
Review 32:I liked the location of the property central to the town.
Review 33:We were not lucky enough to stay at sea front higher floor room, all rooms were booked, therefore we were not able to enjoy the stunning view of Sorrento. Breakfast was OK, not WOW though, but who cares, Sorrento is full of cafes with sandwiches and drinks.
Review 34:Staff is very helpful and friendly, house keeping is immaculate, and location is quite close to city Center
Review 35:The pool closed too early each night (6pm) for us to swim as we tended to be out all day sightseeing. A couple of evenings we only wanted a light meal and there was only a very limited bar menu.
Review 36:Excellent location, really enjoyed the view from our room and the hotel and nice to be staying above Sorrento. We ate at the Pool restaurant for a couple of lunches and dinners and it was excellent.
Review 37:The hotel was just beautiful. Lots of lovely restaurants and very good standard of food. Very helpful staff and always pleasant. It was a big hotel! Loved the location as not too far to pop into the main part of Sorrento. Would go back!!!!!!
Review 38:This hotel exceeded my expectations in just about every category. The staff were friendly and respectful...went out of their way to meet our needs. The location overlooking Sorrento, yet just a short distance from the central piazza, was ideal for us. It would be my first choice should I have the privilege to visit Sorrento again.
Review 39:Not alone was the Hotel one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, but the staff were so helpful and friendly. We were on out honeymoon and we couldn't of picked a better place.
Review 40:Nothing.
Review 41:Everything! We could not have stayed in a better hotel. Breakfast was more than you could imagine. Food was divine in the evening. Pools and the views were beautiful, quiet and relaxing. Location was perfect. Staff and maids were so nice and helpful. It was the nicest hotel we have stayed in.
Review 42:Noisy family with very noisy children around the pools. We do not expect to pay for this high class hotel to have it spoilt by one family who would have suited Benidorm rather than here. make hotel adults only!
Review 43:The wonderful view, helpful staff, lovely room, beautiful pool area and gardens.
Review 44:The staff was fantastic. Front desk was very helpful. Rooms were clean. Food was amazing. The hotel grounds were very impressive. Very spacious with a lot of room to explore. And the pool with the view was spectacular. Should be a 5 star hotel.
Review 45:The self service breakfast buffet was just about acceptable. I expected more from a four star + hotel. The restaurant and bar were fairly expensive. Much cheaper options were available within a three minute walk.
Review 46:Fantastic location ... in a quiet position but still close enough to the town centre. The hotel is in a great setting, with plenty of sun terraces and wonderful views. The staff on reception were particularly helpful
Review 47:The only negatives, although minor were the pool area was mostly shaded and everything was spread too far and wide. As an example, for breakfast you had to go in one room for tea / coffee and another for orange juice, cereal.
Review 48:The staff were great and the hotel itself was lovely. Everything was clean and finished to a high standard. The view was amazing.
Review 49:2 minute taxi ride to bus station was 25 euros, through hotel, no abundance of local taxis to hire so limited to hotel taxi. Drinks and food very expensive at hotel.
Review 50:Good location and room position, staff excellent and extremely clean. Great hotel but should be for the really expensive room rate.
Review 51:Lovely traditional style hotel located only a few minutes walk from centre of Sorrento. Stunning views from rooms with balconies and from hotel public areas. Helpful English speaking staff. Good breakfast buffet. Hotel caters mainly for the UK clientele - nice touch were teapots to make English tea at breakfast! Good standard of facilities - well maintained and freshly decorated. We had no complaints at all and would happily return.
Review 52:The pool area, and all communal areas are absolutely stunning. The view is also fantastic, and the rooms nicely looked after and pretty features. Brekkie was huge and nice, but we'd expected slightly better quality in the brekkie, over the quantity and choice they seemed to focus on.
Review 53:Inconsistent breakfast - some items one day not the next, e.g. Beans. Lack of recognition for a returning guests. This was our third year visiting in a row and we were treated as new guests.
Review 54:Pool and views are stunning. Table tennis is an added bonus. Very nice room with lots of space. Great location for the town.
Review 55:service can be a bit "slow" in the restaurent........would be great if they added a gym
Review 56:Great position on edge of town but an easy walk to town......nice rooms and fab view...great pool area...very helpful staff particularly Marta
Review 57:Water pressure in the shower could be better and it took ages to get the temperature right.
Review 58:Everything about the hotel and it's close proximity to the town centre.
Review 59:Bad points were the guests getting away with reserving sunbeds the day before by putting towels, books etc on them and the damp smell walking through the corridor from reception to the lifts.
Review 60:The staff were very helpful and the location was fantastic, just a five minute walk to the centre of Sorrento so felt like the best hotel for location. The views were stunning.
Review 61:Did not have bad experience. Hotel was just too large for us. Felt as if we were on a cruise ship at breakfast.
Review 62:Reception desk was exceptionally friendly and helpful. All of the staff were great. Rooms were very clean.
Review 63:Very noisy due to tiled floors, woken up early every morning due to people walking about. Bad room location next to stairs, lift and service room didn't help. Sunbed situation was terrible. People reserving sunbeds the night before with books and then not even sitting on them until midday!! Very hard to get a decent sunbed in the morning. Hotel generally felt too busy and although staff were helpful and efficient they were not very personable, too busy to have a conversation with. Bed was a little too hard and we never sat on our balcony as they view was just of a wall!! Have our suspicions that mineral water being sold was just tap water!! It's a shame as view and location were great but all of these negatives mean we wouldn't go back!!
Review 64:Stunning view from restaurant and pool of Vesuvius and Sorrento. Fantastic choice at breakfast, particularly loved the omelettes. Staff efficient and helpful.
Review 65:Didn't stay long enough!!
Review 66:This is my second stay at Capodimonte and I think it will be the only hotel I visit when I come to Sorrento. Friendly staff, had an absolutely beautiful sea view room, great air con and wifi, spacious bedroom and bathroom, love the breakfast and the pools. Easy walk into the centre of Sorrento. Can't fault this place!
Review 67:Dinner! The food was not up to our expectations. We had a bad experience with the liver.
Review 68:Everything was absolutely amazing, except the restaurant. We are foodies and the dinner was very plain. Would definitely stay there again. The location, staff, and the rooms were fabulous. Everything was in walking distance.
Review 69:Various restaurant options /price levels still needs to be somewhat clearer. Not a hotel for anyone with difficulty getting around or climbing steps
Review 70:Location close to town .Multi level grounds, accomodation and pools as well as shaded and non haded sunbathing areas. Many seating areas inside and outside .
Review 71:didn't have a bad experience but you could consider having the pool open longer at the height of summer as it is often the nicest time to swim between 5-7pm without being rushed away from the pool side breakfast for me was skipped quite a few times because it was too rushed and too impersonal but i understand that wasn't everyone's experience
Review 72:cleanliness,location,staff attitude
Review 73:The swimming pool timing. 9am to 6pm was either to late in the morning as we wanted a swim before setting off for the day or it was shut when we got back. The Wifi was a little slow most of the time making it impossible to watch movies on an IPad. However it was fine for normal emails etc.
Review 74:Excellent location five minutes from town centre with its excellent restaurants. The hotel was clean and tidy with very friendly staff who were always willing to help.
Review 75:Loved the location and the ambience of the hotel. We enjoyed swimming in the beautiful pools very much. Also dining in the restaurant with most amazing views.
Review 76:Paid for an upgraded room with a view for our honeymoon. Told them twice before arrival that was the reason for our stay and we got a low level room adjacent to a building, which blocked a lot of the view. Also very expensive drinks by the pool (€4 water) and a sign asking you to refrain bringing your own drinks out with you. Feels 'money grabbing'.
Review 77:Good location, polite and attentive reception staff.
Review 78:Third year Holidays staying at the Capodimonte. Absolutely love it here . Prime location & All Staff are so very friendly & helpful , Superb !
Review 79:Location is excellent, beds and room so comfortable with amazing view of Mt. Vesuvius from room! Pool is amazing with four levels and a view of Gulf of Sorrento and Vesuvius.
Review 80:This is a magnificent hotel with happy attentive staff. The Capodimonte is a fabtastic place - they service is excellent and the views are stupendous. The pool area is a resort in itself. No better place to stay in Sorrento and after a long day trooping around Pompeii in the heat coming back here is a real pleasure. I keep going back each year because it is so comfortable. A gem of a hotel.
Review 81:Sun loungers by the pool with used towels on them when they are not being occupied.
Review 82:Excellent breakfast. Beautiful views of Sorrento and Vesuvius from the bedroom and the pool. Good decor and quality fittings in the bedroom. Good selection of restaurants and fine food. Lovely swimming pool(s).
Review 83:A beautiful hotel with excellent views over the bay of Naples. Swimming pool area amazing and staff always ready to help and make your stay as luxurious as possible.
Review 84:Hard to calculate how much you were spending as you signed for everything and settled your bill at the end of your stay
Review 85:Everthing else it was wonderful
Review 86:I felt that the food did not live up to the hotel's standard. Generally the food and restaurant seemed a bit dated.
Review 87:The hotel has a lovely pool / relaxing area and a fantastic view from from the restaurant. It also has a good location.
Review 88:A beautiful hotel set amongst a fantastic setting . Very good staff who went out of their way to fulfill the customers requirements. Excellent cuisine.
Review 89:The hotel breakfast was absolutely delicious as was the dinner restaurant. The setting had a very resort like feel to it, and it was situated beautifully on the property. The terraces and sunken pool area were stunning.
Review 90:We couldn't get wifi around the pool area.
Review 91:Hotel is in an excellent location within easy walking distance of the town. The views over the bay are wonderful from the restaurants and the pool area. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would give this hotel a high 4 star rating.
Review 92:Breakfast, typically Italian. More pool etiquette would be a plus. Too many people just put towels on the sunbeds without actually using them. The staff was excellent exept for the waiters who serve lunch. The wifi sucks
Review 93:The pool is amazing, location is excellent. Everything is very clean. Mostly very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 94:I was expecting the Superior room with the balcony with partial views of Sorrento and the sea, as stated in my booking, but no, I got a room view a balcony with view to trees and plants. It was situated on a corner. I complained, and the manager was very rude with his manners. And even lied to me telling me they did an upgrade with the room, that that room was indeed a Deluxe room. That I should be happy. This was totally a lie. This type of attitude is not acceptable in a 4 star hotel. Certainly was not the room with the view I paid for. For my consolation, they offered me an incredibly tiny room with a very nice view, yes, very tiny indeed with a crib for a baby. The perfect room to say no, thank you. So, when I suggested: if you upgraded me to a Deluxe room, as you say, why don´t you give me one that has the view I asked for, and he said no. That is why it was a lie. He will reply here for sure, that he did his best, and put me in a better room, blah, blah, blah, he will keep lying.
Review 95:The views from the swimming pool.
Review 96:Paid for deluxe standard room as per booking.com description. Was given lower standard superior room. Hotel reservations manager explained that the hotel room descriptions only apply if you book directly with them. Not a pleasant conversation, his suggested resolution was to further down grade my room! I felt misled by the hotel and quite frankly fleeced !! Was left wanting to check my bed for horses heads!
Review 97:Short walk to centre of town, blackout shutters and air con.
Review 98:A fantastic hotel to stay in. Great location which meant we got an amazing view of Sorrento and the sea. Only a 5/10 min walk away from the Main Street where the shops and resturants are. Great pool. Plenty of sunbeds and space for guests to spread out and enjoy the view while lying by the pool. I would highly recommend this hotel. We had a premier sea view room. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Review 99:Breakfast a bit chaotic and didn't match standard of rest of hotel
Review 100:Staff so friendly and helpful views stunning - had sea view and balcony short walk into centre of Sorrento pool area very pretty with great views room excellent
Review 101:There is a shaded area on level 1 of the swimming pool that is neglected. The paving has not been cemented, jut laid on earth which is dirty. Weeds growing between the stones. Small tables never cleaned.
Review 102:Service. Spacious bedroom. Bedding changed daily, towels twice a day. Air conditioning on 24 hours a day in bedroom.
Review 103:For the price you pay per night, I think it is very poor that I had to pay €18 a day extra to 'rent' a baby travel cot. I have stayed in hotels for the past 6 years with young children and I have never paid for a travel cot before.
Review 104:Nothing! It was great!
Review 105:We loved the pool, the view of the Mediterranean, our room, the awesome breakfast, the fact that it was walking distance from downtown...everything!
Review 106:We received an upgrade to a suite which was absolutely amazing. We really couldn't fault a single thing about the hotel, staff or the breathtaking views.
Review 107:We didn't like leaving! That's all!
Review 108:Beautiful hotel, excellent location, friendly staff, gorgeous views. We stayed in a superior partial sea-view room (1103) but had a view of the whole coast line from our private terrace. Bottle of fizz to greet us on arrival too!
Review 109:Not a negative, just a heads up...If you fancy a cuppa when you wake, just take a Travel Kettle as that is the only item not in the rooms.
Review 110:We had a fantastic stay at the Capodimonte. The location was perfect, just minutes from the centre yet quietly tucked back on the hill. The views were exceptional. We had a superior room. It was stunning with beautiful furniture, soft beds and a well stocked mini bar.The room had the most amazing views of Naples, Sorrento town and the beautiful coastline. The first thing I saw from my bed was the beautiful sparkling sea..just stunning. The staff were lovely, so warm and welcoming. Everyone says hi everywhere you go in the hotel. Nothing is a hassle, all very passionate in creating the most enjoyable and relaxed holiday for each guest. Most people we met where on their 3/4 visit to the hotel which kind of says it all. The pool area and restaurants were 5* in fact we cannot understand why this hotel isn't a 5* as the attention to detail, quality of rooms, food were all well above 4*'s. Breakfast -don't get me started... you'll know how good it is and don't forget to pour yourself a Prosecco....
Review 111:WI-FI was a bit weak from our room but hardly a major issue at all. A very very small negative if being picky.
Review 112:The location and views from our room were hard to beat and all the staff were so helpful and friendly. Beautiful hotel also.
Review 113:The Hotel is a little pricey. Staff at the reception are a bit cold when interacting with customers. They treat the encounters as a business transaction.
Review 114:Location, Location and Location!!! Amazing views from the rooms and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the facilities. Definitely, it is a 4 star hotel.
Review 115:Nothing at all.
Review 116:Everything ! the hotel was stunning, extremely clean, spacious, lots of facilities (although surprisingly no gym). the pool and its area were superb with a view to die for over Sorrento. The restaurant was good, the staff excellent, always helpful. Overall this is a fantastic hotel in a beautiful place.
Review 117:It could get a bit noisy (the hotel is located along the road to Positano/ Amalfi); during my stay, the hotel hosted a wedding - up until 1.30 AM it was impossible to sleep given the noise (since Sorrento is generally viewed as a relaxation spot and the hotel is not particularly cheap, I believe they could have refrained from hosting a wedding). No bathrobe/ slippers were provided.
Review 118:The view from the hotel is nice, the rooms are spacious and well furnished; decent breakfast.
Review 119:Aircobditioning in room could have been better, but I'm sure if I would of mentioned it, it would have been sorted but it wasn't that much of a bother
Review 120:Hotel was a beautiful, traditional hotel.. The location was perfect slightly out of the main old town but only a 5 minute walk to all the shops, bars & restaurants. Amazing view from the balcony, had the same amazing view from the breakfast area, terraces, swimming pool. The pool area was gorgeous and it was terraced! All the staff very friendly and welcoming.. Will definitely stay here again!
Review 121:Smell from air-condition or cleaning detergent was disgusting from time to time.
Review 122:The view was amazing, garden very beautiful and pool area excellent, comfortable room.
Review 123:This hotel is an easy walking distance from town and has a wonderful view of the sea. The pool is fantastic. The staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend!
Review 124:The Hotel looked dated, the room was big but the furniture was old and the bathroom was non functional and ancient looking. I would never stay there again.
Review 125:Location, nice views and pleasant staff.
Review 126:Restaurant too serious and too posh for a holiday stay, ie not relaxed enough. House wine awful, while all house wines tasted in local restaurants were very pleasant. coffee at breakfast time awful, too weak and kept warm too long.
Review 127:Location, comfortable room, swimming pool, pleasant staff
Review 128:The reception staff were very unfriendly The air conditioning in the bedroom didn't work properly nor did the wi-fi The price of food and drinks in the hotel was very expensive
Review 129:There was an excellent selection of foods for breakfast The swimming pool area was very spacious The views from the hotel were beautiful
The Fine Print
