Reviews for Hotel Oostereiland

Review 1:We stayed overnight in a family room which was two double rooms connected by a door between them. The hotel is on a quay in the harbour and is surrounded by boats of all kinds and ages. It's a two minute walk to central Hoorn where there are many cafes, stores, churches and sites to see. There's also a restaurant in the hotel building if you prefer to stay close. It was perfect for a short stay and would work very well for longer ones too.

Review 2:Advertising said public parking available at 2 mins walk but seemed not to be available. Staff recommended to park at 1,5kms. Not so handy.

Review 3:Great location.

Review 4:WiFi on the 3rd floor is a bit hit and miss as the signal drops out. Would have been nice to have a lull more choice of english language TV (maybe BBC World Service) but that is being picky.

Review 5:The location is excellent with great views over the harbour and out into the IJsselmeer. Quiet at night allowing a good nights sleep. For the best views get one of rooms 301 - 310 which face the harbour. Rooms on the lower floor have no view.

Review 6:The room and bed are small. The noise from the hallway is very upsetting till late at night. There is no staff in the morning, no breakfast before 9.00. So poor value for 80 euro's

Review 7:Beautiful location close to the heart of Hoorn.

Review 8:The rooms are very noisy, in winter cold, in summer epected to be warm due to thin wall protection. The breakfast is a nightmare. You can't choose from a buffet, you receive a standard set of simple versions of bread, cheese, sausage, peanutbutter, marmelade, butter. Croissant and egg have been cold. No cereals, no fresh fruit, no salads, no fish, no warm items to choose. It's really like in a prison. I asked for some more more varietes - no chance. Only this standard set, half packed in plastic, is offered

Review 9:The location is nice and idea is funny to create a hotel in an old prison.

Review 10:It rained very heavily while we were staying and the roof is made of metal. The rain made a very loud noise on the roof and we could not sleep.

Review 11:Interesting location and good food in the restaurant.

Review 12:The rooms. No door or curtain across the bathroom so was no privacy at all. Mattress filled the cell, wall to wall, with 6 inches to spare. No accommodation for luggage or clothes. Almost no ventilation. With sealed windows and poor ventilation, could be a real horror of claustrophobia a hot night.

Review 13:Funky feel, great location for doing Hoorn. The bistro floor was fun. Breakfasts were nice. Staff was helpful.

Review 14:rooms are small to hold your belongings, especially in the bath 'room'. not possible to open your window when it's warm at night

Review 15:location, near city center friendlyness of staff restaurant night entrance parking

Review 16:No door to the toilet & shower.

Review 17:First stay in prison. An experience. Horn is a lovely seaside town.

Review 18:No door to the en suite. No storage for clothes.

Review 19:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great.

Review 20:Everything was ok

Review 21:Very strange location...never been in a jail before! Great restoration idea, perfect position and easy parking.

Review 22:Could have made more of it being a former prison

Review 23:Being a prison the rooms were quirky

Review 24:Toilet exposed to the bedroom (no door) - this is part of the jail theme, but...

Review 25:Location - very close to the port.

Review 26:This hotel is located on a little island just outside an old Dutch town. Great walking town, good food and atmosphere.

Review 27:wifi was not working in the room (3floor), but only at the 1st floor at the Brasserie

Review 28:cleaness, confort, location, quiteness

Review 29:Friendly staff Very nicely situated

Review 30:Same breakfast each morning

Review 31:Room very small, clean with helpful staff. Good value for money.

Review 32:First impression of room. Not dusted, dead bugs on windowsill, headboard to bed was dirty. Towel missing, plug to connect reading lamp to wall missing, no internet in room, no fixed phone line. Clothes hanger on top of bed. Room smaller than expected for price paid. No storage. Bathroom doesn't have a separate shower, it is simply part of the room.

Review 33:Well located on Oostereiland, in the heart of the city. Clean linens, and staff (although staff are in the middle of a restaurant, there's no lobby to the hotel!) were friendly.

Review 34:difficulty to find the hotel. Very small and cold sleeping room without any chance to heat it. very poor breakfast. (perhaps to be in accordance with the "jail" way of life!!!).

Review 35:the site originality and quiet .

Review 36:We stayed in one of the cells which was exellent. There is plenty of room (a second cell contains the shower, toilet, etc.). However, a door to the toilet area would be a plus.

Review 37:I didn't really enjoy the God Squad boat moored up outside and the organ and hymns until the late hour of 11.00 pm on the Wednesday. The boat party coinciding with the firework display on Friday night with the dancing sailor girls was much more to our taste.Funky House over hymns. You can choose for yourself.Roger Sanchez for me and my woman!!!

Review 38:Great location.Close to the harbour and town centre with no through traffic. My other half Vivienne originates from Hoorn and now lives with me in Derbyshire England. We had a great time during fair week and lappendag.Lovely relaxed atmosphere in your hotel.Close to Vivienne's family but easy to get back to the hotel.Ideal and we will stay with you again

Review 39:Conversion needs to be bit more thought through. Rooms Airless, no windows Bit spartan

Review 40:Convenience to town, Food very good. Conversion from prison to hotel interesting. Cinema available bit special for Rural holland

Review 41:Can't think of anything to say.

Review 42:Great design turning cells in to Bedrooms. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Hotel in beautiful location in harbour. Breakfast was good value and lovely. Very accommodating for people on Bicycle tours.

Review 43:It is a former prison, so expect the accommodation to be somewhatspartan. It cannot be recommended for wheelchair-bound guests. Parkingcan be a bit difficult, especially for non-resident visitors.

Review 44:Location next to the harbour in the old town of Hoorn, convenient forthe centre of town, clean and modern, good service, good breakfast

Review 45:As an architect and interior designer we greatly appreciated the smart and sophisticated renovation of this former institutional complex. Rooms are not large, but very clean and well appointed. Excellent location, friendly young staff, good fresh food. Great for dinner and movie at the theater in the complex. A 10 from 2 demanding travelers.

Review 46:Expected more jail like details. Rooms where very noisy, door to the corridor closes with a loud bang, so try to book a room at the end of the corridor (313 and up). Impossible to shower without drowning the whole bathroom floor.

Review 47:Bread at breakfast was delicious, bed, although small, very comfy.

Review 48:Really only any good for backpackers - although the price is a bit highfor that market. The cells are understandably small, however there'svirtually nowhere to put cases etc. Claustrophic for some, articulatelywith bed being up against the wall.

Review 49:Good location & initially interesting because of the unusualsetting.

Review 50:This is not a problem, but just to note. We had a double room (doublebed) and there was no door connecting the bedroom to bathroom. Fine fora couple, but might not be fine if two friends share the room.

Review 51:Excellent breakfast! The room was clean and tidy. We enjoyed theatmosphere. Staff were very friendly and spoke Dutch with us when wespoke Dutch (we are foreigners trying to learn Dutch).

Review 52:fire alarm in middle of the night

Review 53:unique property

Review 54:contacted me after leaving that i left my phone charger, and that they will send it to my home

Review 55:Very friendly staff , breakfast was outstanding.

Review 56:It was too much of a cell, no Comfort at all. No chances to open a window and get some air. the breakfast was poor. The location was Beautiful.

Review 57:atmosphere, service

Review 58:Liked staying in a prison, very nice, staff helpful and serving food right up to 9pm as we were late getting there

Review 59:To hot in the room

Review 60:Place by itself
