Reviews for Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria
Review 1:It was difficult to regulate the room temperature to desired levels. One had to log onself unto the wi-fi over and over again, even while using it.
Review 2:The atmosphere
Review 3:Fantastic hotel! We were upgraded to a Seaview room which was amazing! The room was perfect. The breakfast was delicious and the piano in the background was very special. We loved the music in the lounge area and enjoyed many drinks in this relaxing environment. The staff were attentive and so professional. Also loved the fact that we could access the ferry from the lift in the hotel. We travelled for 5 weeks enjoying many 5 star hotels but this one was our favourite. The grounds are magnificent and the easy access to to restaurants and shops was another plus. We hope to return!
Review 4:The Excelsior Vittoria is a truly excellent hotel in a stunning location. I was particularly impressed with the consistently outstanding levels of service from all the staff. The spa and restaurant were also very impressive.
Review 5:We last stayed at the hotel on our honeymoon and going back 20 years later was even more special. It is without doubt the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, together with the location and facilities that make this hotel so very special.
Review 6:Nothing - simply outstanding.
Review 7:The royal welcome, the superb service, the stunningly beautiful building and room with an amazing view of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.
Review 8:This is the third time back to the hotel and feels like the hotel a bit tired on all front. Michelline 1 star restaurant was not as expected. There was a bug in the water cup.
Review 9:location。
Review 10:Leaving.... Could happily have stayed there forever.
Review 11:Utterly fabulous hotel. Location is perfect. Marvellous interiors. Glorious grounds. Beautiful views. Entrance right in the heart of Sorrento on Piazza Tasso. Lift down to Marina Piccolo with its boats to Naples, Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Ischia..... Excellent food. Wonderful, friendly staff.
Review 12:Nothing negative to say!
Review 13:It is so conveniently situated having its own elevator down to the harbour where the ferries leave from. Although it is right in the old centre the hotel is isolated from the noise and tourist congestion by beautiful gardens. Parking is free and they arranged a great guide/driver for us to drive the Amalfi coast.
Review 14:Breakfast services very hit and miss, plenty of staff but not really delivering the service, needed direction as they spent most of there time chatting to each other!! if we needed cultery or coffee we had to try and catch their attention.I was charged for a poached egg but I could have an omellete or fried egg !!!I felt the offerings for breakfast not as good as our last stay 3 years ago. The hotel very focused on the main restaurant rather than important factors within the hotel.
Review 15:Housekeeping standards excellent, very good eye for detail. Location of the hotel amazing. Poolman excellent.
Review 16:I loved everything about this hotel. The staff were professional, food was top quality, best sundowners of Sorrento with a stunning view across the Bay of Naples
Review 17:We had a junior suite with sea view. All brilliant, but I thought the bathroom was a bit cramped. Difficult to know what to do about it though, without knocking down the walls!
Review 18:Excellent in almost every way - location, the décor, the staff, service, food in Michelin restaurant, the views, pool area etc etc.
Review 19:Amazed to find hordes of non resident Americans complete with luggage and backpacks pouring onto the terrace from the private lift. Apparently an arrangement with a tour company.
Review 20:would prefer more entertainment if possible both in the hotel and the town.
Review 21:Fabulous position in lovely town and fantastic service. Great experience in sought after town.
Review 22:Private beach like some of the other 5 stars nearby would have been nice. I was surprised to just have a pool that was not anywhere near the view.
Review 23:Beautiful hotel and great location.
Review 24:Noise through interconnecting door to our room. No dressing table mirror. Stale crisps and peanuts served with drinks.
Review 25:Sea view from the room, breakfast, friendliness of hotel staff
Review 26:The terrace is amazing for aperitifs in the evening, looking out over the Bay of Naples. Complimentary snacks were always brought out to accompany our drinks. The large pool area has excellent service of towels and drinks. Great location in Sorrento, close to the centre and the ferry for trips to Capri, but an oasis away from the crowds.
Review 27:Everything! They treated us very special from the first contact to greeting us at the front door. The meals were FANTASTIC and the staff were unbelievable. They remembered our names and greeted us every time by name. Great Location, Great Room, Great View, Great Ambiance. Overall a TEN!
Review 28:Only negative is wifi is weak. However, you may use computers in business center which always seemed available.
Review 29:Location, location, location! Five Star Hotel is very centrally located with direct access to city center, shopping, and harbor. It is the only hotel near the city center that sits within a park like setting! The resort hotel also has a beautiful swimming pool and deck area (which is important as there are no nice beaches in the immediate area)! Service and staff receive a perfect "10". Incredible hospitality, friendliness, and attention to detail! Orangerie restaurant and breakfast buffet were top notch! Sunsets and fantastic seaviews were like paintings! Piano music in the late evening was a perfect end to wonderful day excursions! I visited the other 5 star hotels in the area and they do not come close to the Excelsior Vittoria!
Review 30:Breakfast could benefit from more variety. Would like to come back with my kids. But can't think of something for them to do, apart from swimming pool. Some organized children's activities perhaps?
Review 31:Excellent location. Beautiful accommodation. Very friendly staff. Will definitely be back again.
Review 32:there was nothing to complain about
Review 33:A beautiful hotel with interiors designed with thought and style. Gardens beautifully maintained and excellent facilities. The staff were trained to a very high standard and delivered a warm, genuine, high standard of service. Congratulations to the management.
Review 34:WiFi was a little bit slow - but thats the same throughout Italy!
Review 35:The Excelsior Vittoria is luxury personified with excellent service from all the staff. From the stunning location perched on the cliff edge to the grandeur of breakfast served in the ball room with amazing frescos and a pianist playing whilst you dine! I honestly cannot convey fully how amazing this hotel is. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace watching the sunset, lounged by the amazing pool with its own excellent bar and restaurant and at all times our expectations were surpassed.
Review 36:pool closes at 6.30 and that is the only "family" restaurant in the hotel (there is a gourmet restaurant which looked very nice)........although so close to many cafes, restaurants etc so not a major issue
Review 37:service and ambience are out of this world. attention to needs without being asked. views, grounds and atmosphere are amazing
Review 38:Having to leave paradise.
Review 39:Simply the most romantic hotel in the world. Simply the best service ofany hotel anywhere in the world. Simply the best managed hotel anywherein the world. Simply the most stunning location. Simply the mostbeautiful grand style palazzo and best maintained old style hotel andparklands of any hotel anywhere in the world. If I could only choose onehotel to experience in my whole life the Hotel Excelsior Vittoria wouldbe it. If I could choose only one location anywhere in the world to havebreakfast, then this would be it. The pianist, the fruits and choice offood, the architecture, the attentive service, the atmosphere simplyoverwhelmed my emotions. Never had tears of joy streaming down my cheeksat breakfast.....be warned!SIMPLY SUPERB.
Review 40:We shouldn't have started our 14-day trip through Italy here. It set too high of a bar for the other hotels in Rome, Florence and Venice. :)
Review 41:Upon entering the property, it is clear that the 5-star rating is no joke. From the beautiful surroundings to the highly attentive staff, my wife and I couldn't help but feel special. While Sorrento and the nearby Amalfi Coast or Pompei are wonderful, I was tempted to cancel the remaining portion of our Italian vacation to stay at this incredible hotel.
Review 42:Immediately recognized and greeted upon arrival and put at ease for entire stay. Staff could not have been more gracious, friendly and helpful, from ownership and management on down the line.
Review 43:The staff were gracious and courteous, nothing was too much trouble or effort. The hotel is placed centrally, however inside the hotel is pure tranquillity.
Review 44:Can't think of anything bad to say at all about this hotel. Perhaps the only slight niggle would be that the wifi is a bit hit and miss, but that is hardly a major issue.
Review 45:Everything about this hotel was superb, from the location, to the beautiful rooms and the most attentive staff we have ever come across. They are all so friendly and welcoming and want to make everything perfect for you but without being overbearing or snooty.
Review 46:WiFi a bit hit and miss
Review 47:The staff were the most genuinely helpful and friendly of any hotel - large or small - I've ever stayed in. Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 48:the piano music on the veranda. No private beach.
Review 49:The location, history, beauty and style of the building and interior decor as well as the friendly, helpful staff.
Review 50:Nothing. A suggestion is to have a hot tub though. That would have been great after a hot dry day slogging around pompeii.
Review 51:A beautiful place with lovely staff and genuine old world charm. This is an iconic hotel. Its like being in Visconti's film of Death in Venice, or Lost in Translation or Sorrentino's Youth. The hotel is the star. What a beautiful place. Loved the little touches such as the white telephones, artwork, piano accompanied breakfast. Stay here at all costs.
Review 52:The pool is great, but the restaurant/bar area near the pool could be a bit more inviting/cosy. Also we found the background music at the pool and the seaside terrace often too loud and in fact mostly superfluous.
Review 53:A great historic hotel with dramatic views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, with lots of character and an excellent atmosphere. Best staff ever; great at reception, great in the restaurants and simply adorable concierges
Review 54:Nothing! All was excellent. Pure oppulance
Review 55:Staff were top class! And hotel wasnt half bad either. Pure luxury. Great location. There was nothing bad about the hotel. Superb!!
Review 56:Light fitting dropping out of the ceiling,we reported it day of arriving still not fixed on departure 3 days later. Bath not emptying. Breakfast Room should be transferred to Dining Room, they have it the wrong way around (pianist plays at breakfast)
Review 57:Bedrooms,View,Cleanliness,Grounds,Access to Marina.
Review 58:Room WIFI could be better, but everything else was faultless.
Review 59:The location and setting is superb, right on the cliff in the middle of Sorrento. Service was outstanding, and the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. It is an old style elegant hotel in the grand manner but was welcoming to all ages in our family. Superb!
Review 60:Absolutely nothing.....ALL WAS PERFECT except for the fact we couldn't stay longer.
Review 61:I am a "seasoned traveler' and generally stay at 5-Star Hotels when available in the location I/we are visiting. I subscribe to Harper Hideaway Report and the Excelsior Vittorria was recommended highly. Our room was one of the most charming we have been in. On the ground level (which normally I would not prefer) over-looking the beautiful grounds and trees. We had a massive, private terrace with beautiful furnishings inc. a table and chairs for outdoor dining. The location can't be beat: within walking distance of fine restaurants and shopping. everywhere. The staff was friendly (we were greeted by the General Manager) at the top of the stairs before entering the property. The view is one you try to etch in your mind with no success. It is everything and more one could expect.
Review 62:staff was a little stuffy.. took a while to get a drink on the patio and to get someone to come fix our power outage
Review 63:Loved the location close to ferry to Capri and town, great place to have a glass of wine watching sunset, & awesome breakfast!
Review 64:wifi is virtually non-existent and was very frustrating; although, I was told they will be correcting this.
Review 65:We loved everything about this beautiful property except the wifi.
Review 66:Everything!!Amazing place and amazing staff - highly recommended if you want to have a perfect stay in Amalfi coast- fabulous decor and amazing facilities-will definitely come back!
Review 67:There was nothing at all to even comment on...
Review 68:From the moment of arrival at the entrance gate where we were met and expected to the moment of a sad departure the whole experience could not have been better. This is one of the best run hotels where attention to detail is paramount and without extortionate pricing. The food is outstanding and location could not be bettered. I look forward to returning!
Review 69:we had two cooked breakfasts,on both occasions the fried tomatoes were cold. the whole cooked breakfast was not anywhere near hot enough it had all been cooked earlier and then dished up.it should have been at least microwaved
Review 70:staff very efficient and friendly
Review 71:Wifi is below standard Room was next to restaurant and noisy until after midnight
Review 72:Great views, service was second to none. Concierge was one of the best ever! Lovely property full of history and charm.
Review 73:a few surprising omissions for a hotel of this quality: no hand lotion/cream in the ladies' loo & the cushions on the sun-loungers around the pool were thin & uncomfortable
Review 74:great location; lovely view of the bay. Staff are very welcoming, although perhaps a little over the top sometimes!
Review 75:This was our 2nd trip and it was as we remembered! They remember us and took great care to make the little things special. They made my daughter (7) feel like a special guest. If you want a 5 star hotel and be in the best place in Sorrento then this is the place to stay. Warm, kind, professional and stylish!
Review 76:hard to think of anything...oh yes no marmite at breakfast :-)
Review 77:the view...the staff were incredibly helpful. meals were wonderful. the place was completely unspoilt
Review 78:I never thought I would rate a hotel "best hotel ever", but this one definitely deserves it. The service, friendliness of staff, facilities, location, food etc etc is unmatched -everything is of outstanding quality.
Review 79:The pool was well run and popular. Though quiet in the morning, rather loud piped music was switched on round lunch time. The music is rather disco style and I guess it is to try to appeal to a younger clientele, which I have to admit my wife and I are not, though we are not fuddy-duddys. Perhaps sun loungers could be placed in the adjoining extensive orchard area that is not used at present, with no music. The Belmond-Caruso in Ravello is rather more cleverly organised in this respect.
Review 80:It had been some years since our last visit, so we were interested in how things had changed, or not. We had previously liked the old world charm of the Excelsior Vittoria, things like the pianist playing gently at breakfast and it was good to see such traditions still continuing. The Vittoria Terrace with its sweeping view across the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius is a scenic as ever. The previous dining terrace is now the Michelin starred 'Bosquet' restaurant, alright for a special occasion. We found the style of cooking rather over-elaborate, like many Michelin starred restaurants - but recognize it is just a matter of taste. For a Michelin starred restaurant we much preferred the Il Buco, just three minutes walk away, where the emphasis is to deliver a really memorable and well defined coherent taste. However the more informal L'Orangerie adjoining the pool but running into the orchard is charming and we thought it very good value. Good for lunch and dinner. The big meat dishes like the lamb chops and filet of beef -Rossini style were excellent value.
Review 81:Staff, setting with bay and it's garden so near the main walking/shopping area of Sorrento, breakfast, the hotel restaurant on the floor below.
Review 82:Leaving this hotel.
Review 83:From the moment we stepped onto the premises we were absolutely cossetted in an unobtrusive manner by efficient, knowledgeable staff. Magnificent view to mount Vesusvius from our balcony; superb shower / toilet facilities; exceptionally high standard of furniture / furnishings; Attentive staff; amazing breakfast menu; magnificent gardens. Felt valued as a guest at this exceptional establishment.
Review 84:- Overall the hotel is a little tired and has dated decor , even for a "classical luxury hotel", it felt like it hasn't moved into the 21st Century and requires a less fussy makeover (both bedrooms and main public rooms, carpets etc) , whilst retaining its key classical features. Our bathrooms were quite worn out - the terrace where cocktails are served is a little bleak in finish and maybe requires a pergola/wisteria etc, but the views are superb - each area/dept of the hotel feels like it works independently of the rest ie front desk, concierge, bar, Terrazzo Restaurant, so that it doesn't feel cohesive
Review 85:- Location, noisy , but very lively and convenient for everything of note in Sorrento - Pool area and l'Orangerie pool side restaurant provided very good food and service was excellent - Room service good - Laundry service good
Review 86:none
