Reviews for Albergo Italia
Review 1:Mostly the staff didn't speak much english and generally were not very friendly or helpful. It's a family run joint, but many of the older staff were very grumpy. The listing states that there is a airport shuttle but there is'nt.. there's really only a public bus 15 mins walk from the hotel
Review 2:The location is amazing and unbeatable. The rooms are big and well decorated in a traditional Italian way.
Review 3:Albergo Italia has a wonderful location, close to the Sassi and the restaurants and bars along via Domenico Ridola. The antique furnishings are memorable and Antonio and his mother are perfect hosts.
Review 4:Location was perfect, close to the hystorical center, and also to the night life of Matera. It is a real Iralian family owned hotel, with its old fashion, elegant and beauty. I loved the old lady at the reception, who Were always smiling & polite to me. As I find out later on she was the Mother in this owner Family, and they used to leave here! I can just recommend to everybody who want to fill the spirit and love of Italian people! Irene/Budapest
Review 5:No information on things like breakfast time or wifi provided on check in, and no printed information in room. A folder for such information was there, empty but for some previous guest's scrawl. The minibar list was the only printed information about the hotel facilities, half the listed items weren't in the fridge and I worried I would be charged for those that weren't there (I explained this to man on reception). They don't seem to be fond of people from English speaking countries.
Review 6:Central location and I liked the décor of the hotel, there were some nicely set out rooms. One room had a grand piano in it, although these rooms were purely for show and didn't seem to have any use for guests to enjoy, other than to look at for one or two minutes. A purposeful sitting room would have been nice. Town map provided at front desk. Night staff guy was lovely.
Review 7:One negative observation – breakfast. Only sweet choices and rather poor compared to other hotels of similar rating we stayed in during our 2 weeks trip through the south of Italy.
Review 8:A small hotel, very cozy, decorated with an old, yet warm and beautiful, style. We stayed for one night in one of the suites that was big, very clean with beautiful furniture, though the bathroom was on the small side and unfortunately did not seem to get the same attention to details as the rest of the suite. We enjoyed the proximity to the Sassi and the center of Matera. Another benefit was being able to reach the hotel in our car, unpack and then enjoying free parking options not far and vise versa when we left. Note that some of the rooms and the suites have a fantastic view of the Sassi while others face the square and the alleys around the hotel. To enhance your visit to Matera – book a room with a view. It worth it!
Review 9:Parking is off site at least 10 minutes away. Not a major problem since we were able to drop our luggage off at the door.
Review 10:A gracious welcome. Our room was very spacious and we enjoyed a view of the sassi from our balcony.
Review 11:Leaving.
Review 12:The tranquil atmosphere in the hotel which added to its superb location and the very helpful staff made it the perfect base for exploring Matera and the surrounding countryside.
Review 13:Nothing really but would have liked a more British choice at breakfast, Tea/ coffee facilities in bedrooms and less slippy shower trays.
Review 14:We had 3 lovely spacious bedrooms and a lot of effort has been made to make this hotel special in the centre of an enchanting place.
Review 15:Great location
Review 16:Bathroom a little bit small
Review 17:Very clean and the staff were exceptional!
Review 18:Helpful staff. Large room with view.Unus
Review 19:breakfast...only sweet cakes
Review 20:in a nice area
Review 21:Poor breakfast, lacking variety and interest.Free parking, but bit of a hike to and from the parked car
Review 22:Central position, short walk to the Sassi.
Review 23:While the signora in charge did everything in her power to help us with our queries, her very limited English and my very limited Italian created more problems than they solved!
Review 24:Wonderful location in a unique part of Italy, with easy access to the historic sassi area. Ask for a room overlooking this old part of the city. Room was spacious and comfortable.
Review 25:There was nothing to dislike aout the hotel
Review 26:The owner and her son who seem to run the hotel were very helpful and gracious. Location was fabulous; The hotel was very big and old fashioned almost a throwback to the 30's, kept immaculately clean The breakfast was a typical Italian breakfast of sweets, yogurt, juice and coffee served buffet style with as much coffee as you wanted
Review 27:The breakfast was really marginal, even for italian standards. They only had sweets of average quality and juices out of the cans, hopeless for my girlfriend who has intolerance to sugar. Such a breakfast makes the whole experience not really value for money.
Review 28:the room (suite) was really very nice and the location excellent. The staff was kind and helpful.
Review 29:Nothing. We enjoyed our breakfasts with very good coffee, yoghurt andfruit as well as lovely cornetti but some would appreciate some moresavoury options.
Review 30:We opened the shutters in our room to see a superb view of the famoussassi of Matera. The staff at reception went out of their way to help uscheck the details of the next leg of our journey and the friendliness wereceived left us with just a desire to return soon. The hotel isbeautifully run combining professionalism with friendliness.
Review 31:No complaints.
Review 32:Exceedingly comfortable, great breakfast, helpful staff, at the citycenter with easy walking access to major sites. Secure parking nearbywith easy access out of the city to other sites such as Massafra.
Review 33:The wireless internet did not work except for on the bottom floor inthe lobby.
Review 34:The breakfast was very good; despite a desire for eggs and bacon (!) Thestaff were very accommodating to someone who spoke very little Italian.
