Reviews for Rydges Plaza Cairns

Review 1:It is the place I always choose to stay when I visit Cairns and always happy with the stay. It is close to everything, as all is a walk away :) And the dream beds r delightful :) Also, the rewards club is great with its discounts and privileges.

Review 2:Air conditioning in the rooms is not really responsive (it's the older vent style) despite having a temperature dial. It's definitely an older hotel, but it's clean and the staff are nice.

Review 3:Good location; nice pool area.

Review 4:everything in Australia costs too much for what you get in hotel accommodation

Review 5:service was friendly, location is excellent, wasn't too noisy even though there are late night venues around

Review 6:The noise from the nightclubs around the hotel.

Review 7:Friendly staff, nice breakfast and good sized rooms. Good secure off street parking. Good if you have business in town, otherwise stay somewhere more holiday oriented.

Review 8:They charged me twice for the accommodation and then I had to wait a week for a refund. $10 parking - should be free of charge to residents.

Review 9:Great central location

Review 10:Hotel room dated and not clean, bathroom is even worse. Mattress old and saggy. Luckily only spend two nights here. Not recommendable at all.

Review 11:Hotel is nearby restaurants and shops.

Review 12:My inital requests were ignored. Required 3 calls to inform reception informing of these issues before i was relocated.

Review 13:Asked for quiet room, was given room near elevator and window above hotel pool/nightclub. Very noisey. Large groups of young guests partying at hotel. I asked not to be put near them, i was put on same floor, with partys either side. They continually ran up and down corridor banding on doors.

Review 14:Would not recommend to business travelers or families over the weekend as the noise from the night clubs and Sunday session at the pool did not make for a pleasant sleep at all.

Review 15:Bathroom a bit jaded looking but the shower was good. Room service took a long time to answer. The lifts maybe need a service?? A few times it felt like we were going to get stuck!

Review 16:The beds were very comfortable, a must when travelling! Nice view, good location. Good that we were able to open a door for fresh air.

Review 17:Cleanliness of the room was poor, mini bar food out of date, actually stood on rusty nails through the thin carpet, bar fridge leaked water onto carpet.

Review 18:Central location and very friendly staff

Review 19:Rather tired, no real AC control BUT the worse was being surrounded by noisy outdoor bars.

Review 20:Staff were very nice, she offered me ear plugs for the noise

Review 21:Upon checkin we were advised of a $10 secure parking fee which we paid. Upon checkout we were advised it was ment to be $10 PER NIGHT.... Why wasn't that mentioned at checkin? The room was very run down, bathroom had pain peeling off door, in desperate need for renovation. Sleepless nights from local nightclub music pounding till 1am. Cleaning staff not very friendly when requesting a clean towel as the one supplied on arrival was dirty.

Review 22:Location

Review 23:the size of the balcony..you are flat out getting on to it! Bathrooms need a reno too! No wine glasses in room either -bummer..there was obvious water damage coming through the ceiling above the bed (we were on the top floor) - very glad it wasn't raining at the time!

Review 24:very comfy bed! Very pleasant bar/restaurant terrace area for an afternoon beverage and snack - highly recommend it...

Review 25:Out dated requires some major works , dirty , but worse of all the room was invested with cockroaches crawling all over place when we turned the lights on during night ,

Review 26:That we only stayed one night , It was good size room and that's all

Review 27:Rydges is clearly an old accomodation which is visable through a lot of wear and tear in the room. For example a couple of hooks were missing in the curtains making it impossible to close them properly. Awfull music during breakfast, much to loud too.

Review 28:Spacious room on a good location.

Review 29:Nothing bad, however we were on the 7 th floor and the carpet in the hallway had a very musty, mouldy smell. Needs replacing.

Review 30:Location great. Facilities good. Staff extremely helpful. Nice bar and pool area. Good view from room. Pick up from hotel for tours.

Review 31:Air conditioning was very cold, breakfast was even colder. Better to eat elsewhere.

Review 32:Friendliness of staff, good beds, good WiFi comfortable room except for aircon

Review 33:Website specified there was a spa. No spa.. This was the reason i booked it! Also i was keen on a balcony apartment, presuming youd be able to sit out on it. No s uch luck. Very disappointing to pay nearly $200 for a night in the city as we live at kewarra beach... Shouldve stayed at home....

Review 34:Older style property. Needs upgrading. Marks on floor and shower curtain indicative.Restaurant looked like it was from the 1950's.

Review 35:Central location.

Review 36:The attitude towards us at the reception. We paid $50.00 for each extra person and one of my friends who were on the list of names were not allowed in after going out clubbing. Another friend never got to stay as well after she had paid her $50 and we were still made to pay for one of the other friends instead of just taking her place. We tried to ask for a refund of $50.00 but were treated very unfairly.

Review 37:The location is great and the room was nice and clean.

Review 38:Cleanliness was lacking. Bathroom ceiling was rusted and the sections in the ceiling were lifted in places and the dust was disgusting. Ceiling in bedroom was covered in dust as well and mildew or something black was also all over the ceiling. I have worked in a 3 star hotel that staff nicknamed 'faulty towers' and the rooms there were in much better condition than this 4 star hotel. Luckily my friend and I were only using this as a place to sleep after a night in town because if I was a tourist I'd be extremely disappointed

Review 39:The location is good. Staff were friendly.

Review 40:They charged me an extra $100 per night for my two adult children. We checked in at 6:30pm and checked out at 7:00am the next morning. We were using the room for a quick lay over and didn't use any of the facilities. In my mind they should have waived the extra fee. I will not go back

Review 41:The hotel is located in the CBD and is close to many restaurants.

Review 42:The air conditioner was way too cold and couldn't be adjusted so we turned it off altogether.

Review 43:Really comfortable bed, very helpful staff and room with a view.

Review 44:The fixtures were not updated in the bathroom (plastic) and the tile floor was old so looked dingy. It was clean but felt like you did not want to walk on it with clean feet. I would stay there again. Breakfast was too expensive for what it was.

Review 45:staff was very friendly and helpful. Bed was very comfortable.

Review 46:The room we had, has mould on the curtains and on the roof ants were on the bathroom basin there was a musty smell

Review 47:Location and staff were friendly the pool was nice and clean beds were comfortable

Review 48:Paid for an upgrade, was meant to update bathroom but Towel rail hanging off the door, hair all through room, shower head broken. Fridge was mouldy room stank of mould. If that was an upgrade I would've hated to see my other room.

Review 49:Not much

Review 50:Very run down and in need of maintenance. Mould in bathroom, carpets very smelly of dampness, especially in corridors as you exit the lift. We had a creaking vent in our room & the staff very kindly moved us to another room on 10th floor, which was nicer. Overall we were disappointed and would not return.

Review 51:The view from the 10th floor was nice

Review 52:Shower curtain had blood stains and hair on it. AC is impossible to figure out. All food facilities closed by 10pm, and lobby locks at 11, so I was afraid to go out. Very noisy night-Clubby area.

Review 53:Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Scrambled eggs were good, though I never would have had breakfast there if I had known I was going to have to pay for it. I could have walked a few feet out the door for much better food for the price.

Review 54:Mold thru room, especially bathroom. Dirty floors, cracked tiles, bathroom rails rusty amd mouldy, aircon ducts mouldy, smell in corridor of off mouldy water. Stained carpets, fridge leaked. Yuck! Won't ever be back.

Review 55:Leaving, cut our stay short.

Review 56:The building is looking very tired. Our first room did not smell nice and there was broken glass on the floor. It certainly was not the standard I expected for the price. I did not want to stay but was told I would have to pay the full price anyway as a cancellation fee. I accepted the offer of an upgrade. This room was better and had an amazing view.

Review 57:The location is great, especially it's proximity to the entertainment centre. We could walk everywhere. And the car park was tall enough for us to fit a 4WD with racks, lights etc.

Review 58:Room - king size bed but had two single mattresses on it Noise - from air conditioning in roof space we were on top floor Noise - from Gilligans nightclub Bathroom- slow filling toilet, leaking shower head Restaurant- breakfast choices often low and took a while to refill dishes

Review 59:Staff- very friendly and helpful Free wifi Pool area Location

Review 60:There wasn't a lot to choose from in regards to room service. But with the location being right in the heart of town, finding other food was not a problem. I also found that they were missing a few essentials from the kitchenette like a knife. Overall though nothing was majorly wrong with the place.

Review 61:Location, service and comfort were all extremely good.

Review 62:Early morning noise from streets below and from crowds when night club closed. Noisy street sweeper truck. Breakfast restaurant staff not friendly and did not greet people on entry and did not explain what was available and how to access the various food available.

Review 63:Walking proximity to all shops and restaurants. Good bed etc: clean room serviced daily. Air-con excellent. Excellent room service meal.

Review 64:Here 4 days, the first two days were terrible...on 5th floor facing backpackers and very noisy through out the night. Old hotel and not all areas updated. Room and carpet dirty. Curtains hanging from rods, Ants in bathroom, hair and filth on hairdryer shelf. Evident it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Asked to be moved early second day. (7:00am) The young desk person said it probably could be done but didn't happen. Reported room circumstances. Would never stay here again.

Review 65:On third day was moved to south side of hotel and 8th floor. Much quieter. Clean room, yet, still with ants. The woman at the desk the evening of second night brought up towel she had sprayed for the bathroom to kill ants. Most gracious and apologetic with all that had happened. Great room service.

Review 66:TV reception was poor The in room dining states they are open till 10:30 but when I ordered at 10:00 they were closed. the bathrooms are very old and past their use by date.

Review 67:The check in process was efficient the room was clean and tidy comfortable bed

Review 68:Everything else, this is a very run down old premises. Cupboard doors didn't closed Lamps didn't work Mould on bedroom ceiling Rust and mould in shower Water damaged and chipped bathroom benches. Rust and corrosion in bathroom Old and outdated fixtures and features in bathroom. Curtains not hung properly Old and dirty chair Pool access was not wheelchair or pram accessible. Additional fee for onsite parking

Review 69:The bed Good reception staff

Review 70:We stayed 5 nights. The back packers across the road was bit noisy 2 nights. It's only me, but I didn't realize how uncomfortable Sleeping in not a100% cotton sheets till I stayed Ridges.

Review 71:The stuffs were really helpful and kind all the time. The room was clean.

Review 72:Rooms are a bit dated. Air con is noisy if you are a light sleeper.

Review 73:Front desk service was excellent. Dinner in the hotel was delicious and the staff were friendly.

Review 74:The northern side can be noisy from the nightclubs in the street.

Review 75:The location was excellent for getting around the centre. Staff were very helpful and obliged us with our requests for baggage storage, information and taxis.

Review 76:There's a disco almost in front of the hotel and in the weekend you could hear some noise from the guys standing around.

Review 77:Good position, well connected to the Marina, discos and airport. Large room.

Review 78:Our immediate impression of the room was that it was 'tired' - it just looked like it was crying out for some TLC. Small things like cracks, chipped tiles, crumbling grout and the SINGLE-FLUSH CISTERN! How long have dual-flush cisterns been mandated? BUT, my biggest issue with Rydges came when we got home. I had an e-mail from Booking.com promoting an upgrade to our room. The promotion identified the type of room we had booked (the Standard Room) and offerred 'addtional' features for an additional fee. Problem was that the features shown for our 'Standard Room' omitted such 'luxuries' as a bathroom, TV, tea/coffee making etc. for which I would pay $45.00 for if I took up the upgrade offer. The offer also included an extra bed! Why would a coule want two queen-size beds?!! This offer by Bookings.com was nothing short of a scam misrepresenting the features of rooms to dupe the unwitting traveller to pay more for absolutely NOTHING. I noted also that our 'Standard Room' had TWO BEDS anyway. If Rydges is to be seen as ethical in its dealings with its customers, it would do well to look into this type of promotion by Bookings.com because this guy is not impressed!

Review 79:The location for us was excelent! We had travelled to Cairns on the Sunlander and simply needed an affordable, comfortable room for the night within walking distance of the station (while lugging our bags).

Review 80:the mould on the carpets, curtains and walls. TV didnt work Paid an extra $50 for another person to stay and didnt even get another towel and they shared a bed that we were already sleeping in. Walls had holes in them that were badly patched up

Review 81:Free Wifi

Review 82:Nothing

Review 83:Great room for two unconnected adults. A suite really we were pleasantly surpised and appreciative as we had a very early flight next am. Thanks Rydges Plaza

Review 84:Charged extra $50 for a visitor that wasn't even staying in the room, just came to get a jacket. Staff wont return emails about the problem, won't refund the extra money. The night staff man wasn't helpful. Would like an explanation.

Review 85:Friendly Daytime Staff Clean Room Comfortable bed

Review 86:the varandah is very tiny and the parking is hard to find with the key. Need more signage.

Review 87:It was clean and the beds were comfortable to sleep in. The pool is awesome. Staff were great.

Review 88:Stayed Friday through Monday for a sports competition hosted in Cairns. Returning to our room on the Saturday the room had been cleaned but there was a sharp knife on the bathroom bench, which we found strange. We left it as we found it and otherwise had no complaint. As usual Rydges Plaza has provided top notch accommodation and we will return in the future.

Review 89:The air-con was refrigeration. No control. The car-parking entrance was a safety hazard. The bath was dangerous. The TV reception was poor. The food inedible.

Review 90:The beds were comfy.

Review 91:Staff were not so friendly; Breakfast was not included in the price

Review 92:Location was great; room was clean and well - maintained.

Review 98:Happy to change my room as it was above a noisy party. But then why put me there in the 1st place

Review 99:The parking facilities are to small and are taken up by bisness holders

Review 100:COULD DO WITH A LITTLE FACE LIFT PAINT ETC

Review 101:GOOD LOCATION TO CBD ALL IN WALKING DISTANCE

Review 102:Room was very out of date
