Reviews for Ferntree Rainforest Lodge

Review 1:Cabin was good but the main Aircon was broken. The place needs a bit of TLC.

Review 2:Great friendly staff. Food in Restaurant was very nice. Breakfast was good. Would come back again. Loved the pool.

Review 3:the lighting around the paths was poor making it hard to walk around at night. Our bottom step of the unit needed replacing as it was rotting through

Review 4:Helpful staff, Restaurant ambiance was lovely, the food was fantastic as was the service

Review 5:The room was spacious, clean and well-equipped. The book on the bed about the area was very useful. The restaurant was very good, reasonably priced and the setting was superb. Staff were all very friendly.

Review 6:The bed moved too much,2 singles pushed together without a fitted sheet, sheets slid off due to plastic mattress and quite uncomfortable (very hard). Basic facilities for the price.

Review 7:Staff were very friendly, especially in the restaurant. Surrounds were beautiful.

Review 8:Beautiful Location. I was there 20 years ago. At that time it was a top resort. Unfortunately it has been run down. Needs urgent renovation. Room service only every second day

Review 9:the food in the restaurant wasn't that good, the meat was dry even cooked rare. We had high expectations because of the whole setting. To bad.

Review 10:Amazing lodge! Good beds, great sanitary facilitys. Everything was clean

Review 11:everything was great, except the handle of hair dryer in our room was very dirty

Review 12:friendly and helpful staff, especially the staff in its restaurant, excellent service, wonderful food for dinner, nice breakfast!

Review 13:No WiFi. Hot water is sometimes not working.

Review 14:Location ia excellent, both to visit some nice spots as well as to go for lunch in the nearby cafe, as there are not too many restaurants in the area. Friendly staff that will recommend nice trips and tours. Awesome bungalows.

Review 15:Huge restless cicada in the room couldn't get it out til the last day!

Review 16:Great location if you want seclusion compared to relatively touristic centres of Port Douglas, Palm Cove and Cairns. Onsite parking, close to the best restaurant in the area called Off the Grid (formerly known as Cassowary Restaurant).

Review 17:The gas unit on room no 89 needs replacing as the pilot light kept going out and we ended up having only 1 hot shower in the 4 daysthere

Review 18:Location brilliant, food in resturant was excellent and breakfast 10/10 as provided me with my dietry needs, gluten free bread/cereal and own toaster. Top marks forthat.

Review 19:The menu in the restaurant really didn't cater for people with Diabetes who need to be on a GI diet. The staff were very kind however and allowed us to take bowls to make our own food.

Review 20:The setting is beautiful in the Daintree rainforest. The bedroom was lovely with windows looking out on the forest.

Review 21:Friendly staff, great restaurant with wonderful waitress Mel. Comfortable room with lovely gardens.Pool could have been a bit bigger as no swimming in the sea.

Review 22:Washing machine didn't work and staff were not helpful to resolve. Staff in general not that helpful, just doing bear minimum to get by etc.

Review 23:Remote

Review 24:Upstairs in Loft apartments should have have curtains and be made up either as double beds or as chillout area. Great feature but not set up to be used for full potential in terms of an intimate rainforest experience and not in lighthouse where everyone can see in

Review 25:Good accommodation right in the the rainforest. Lovely staff - totally helpful. Unusual loft units.

Review 26:No tv or Internet service but tranquil all the same

Review 27:The pools were fabulous the whole resort had amazing landscaping the bed was wonderful really nice overall

Review 28:No water supply from 6pm until 2 am could not even have a shower.Sowermissing soap dish. Bed side lights not able to turn on. Not very happy! My Wife and do not recommend this accommodation. Very disapoinoting.

Review 29:Room was not serviced daily. Coffee cups had not been cleaned properly.

Review 30:Room/cabinet was nicely shaped. There was also a small terrace. Good restaurant for evening meal (optional).

Review 31:There were no insect screens on the windows in the jungle, so we couldn't open the windows, which was a shame as there was a tropical downpour and it would have been nice to have the windows open to enjoy it.

Review 32:The location was awesome. Peter the Manager was a really cool dude

Review 33:The resort has the feeling of being neglected. Little things such as a lack of hot water, paper thin walls and loud music from the 'games room' of an evening really do detract from its intent as a 'rainforest retreat'. The price is high for the quality. The restaurant has a wonderful setting but is also very overpriced for the quality of the food. I stayed here quite some time ago when it was extremely efficiently run and very beautiful - I am therefore very sad to see it under new management and no longer providing the same quality of tourist experience.

Review 34:The location is fantastic - right in the middle of the rainforest. The pool is lovely and there is a beautiful onsite restaurant.

Review 35:Some parts of your property are looking a little tired, maybe in need of some renos, otherwise i had a really pleasent stay at your resort

Review 36:The breakfast was quite fine re continental breakfast. What I can really praise was the rump steak dinner we had the previous night. It was excellent! Please pass on my compliments to the chef!....Garry Jones

Review 37:Need to have pool towels. Bedding looked a bit tired. Stayed 2 nights room not serviced. Hairdryer would be handy.

Review 38:The location and pool were wonderful. The staff in the Cassowary cafe at breakfast and dinner were lovely and worked very hard and the evening meal was very good.

Review 39:Restaurant, very disorganized, staff not communicating, 3 times we were presented with the wrong meals, and the restruant was not full. Breakfast was a mess, layout not functional, patrons banging into each other because of poor layout. Food slot of spoiled fruit, not good for the region we were in, expected better.

Review 40:Location and setting beautiful

Review 41:Hot water unreliable and intermittent while using the shower. Sparse but adequate furnishings. There was a narrow wardrobe in the cabin, but a small table and/or shelf to put clothes and other belongings would be helpful.

Review 42:Cabins and other accommodation are private and set in beautiful tropical rainforest gardens. Location is excellent, walking distance to boardwalks and cafes. The restaurant was really impressive - delicious food and excellent service by Katerina and her helper Hanna during our visit 26-27 June 2015!

Review 43:The rude manager who asked why when we asked for a hand towel and wash cloth as none were provided, she told us well no one has ever asked for them before. The rooms were dirty, old drab linen on the beds, mould in all the tile grout in the shower. Just old and worn out facilities that are probably a bit above backpacker style accommodation but certainly not $180 per night value, more like 2 star

Review 44:Nothing except perhaps the location

Review 45:We really liked it all. I have seen people complain about bugs. You are in the rainforest so if spiders or crickets etc freak you out be aware

Review 46:The resort was right in the middle of the rainforest. The rooms were a great size and had everything we wanted. Especially loved that right outside your huge window you are overlooking he forest so all the sounds can be heard throughout the night and you wake up to that. Bed comfy, hot water and clean. What more can you ask for? Pool was great, food excellent and very well priced and drinks same!

Review 47:Don't expect to be able to dine in the restaurant after 7:30pm. Don't be late for breakfast. The staff are mainly British or European visa workers and although courteous and proficient they lack the true warmth and friendliness of Australian staff.

Review 48:The gardens and surrounds were very calming and the pool setting was gorgeous. The rooms are spotless and well maintained.

Review 49:No TV, no mobile phone coverage and no internet - absolute bliss. Nestled away in the rainforest in eco friendly rooms with all of natures sounds was so pleasing to the ears. A very pleasant recharging of our batteries which only took one night to achieve here.

Review 50:Aircon very noisy since loaded into a wooden wall which rattles. Restaurant was very limited menu. The pool didnt look clean so we didnt use it.

Review 51:Liked the design of the place: nice green cabins but super expensive. No curtains upstairs so children are woken at dawn. Showers good and bathroom was very big. Breakfast was ok one day and poor the next day but if you like toast and cereal its ok. Friendly staff

Review 52:Very hard mattress, could have been a bit cleaner, very old fittings, NO inside chairs, sparsely furnished, needs a lot of TLC.

Review 53:Location, Staff, Ambiance, Price, Large Bed

Review 54:The communal kitchen was very dirty and had a bad smell. There were four forks for the whole hotel. Dirty dishes at breakfast. The bathroom smelled like sewage and there were no fly screens on the windows so we couldn't air the toilet or room.

Review 55:I'm not sure if this place used to be a lot more booming, but it seemed to of seen better days. Walking around the grounds is quite creepy as the foliage has started to over grow the huts/chalets. I only saw one other guest whilst i was there which added to the creepy cabin in the woods vibe! The cabin smelt of damp as there is no ventilation (and no fly screens on windows, so you dont even want to open the windows... Which dont lock by the way!) and beds were semi rusty/had a musky smell - i presume this is down to them not being used very often/the overgrown foliage around the cabins.

Review 56:Good location, staff were friendly and the pools were clean. The cafe/resturant also looked pretty nice! Bar/pool table and lounge area connected to reception was also pretty welcoming.

Review 57:WiFi only available at reception area.

Review 58:Individual villas were nice and basic. Location was perfect with easy access to rainforest walks, the beach (no swimming) and activities. Staff went out of their way to be helpful, even bringing me private breakfast the night before so I could eat in my room when I had to check out early.

Review 59:I love the lofts , but i think they need some renovations ... Just a little here there , but i will be back in a cpl of months

Review 60:I love the location , rainforest birds butterflies nature relaxation

Review 61:Communal areas are a bit backpacker.

Review 62:At the lodge you feel you are in the tropical rainforest. You would come here to sample the amazing north Queensland rainforest and beaches. The accommodation is attractively spread out around the site. The pool area is lovely. On-site restaurant serves reasonably good food. Easy walk to the beach.

Review 63:check-in, after check-in service, poor air-con, room security, tired accommodation in serious need of updating, poor breakfast, no hot water in shower,.

Review 64:Location, setting, pool. Management sorted issues.

Review 65:bad wifi connection breakfast was just ok

Review 66:Cassowary cafe dinner was awesome Cassowary staff was brilliant Lodge in the rainforest had great atmosphere

Review 67:Raising price after booked by hotel. Chatted with hotel manager, but they claim the price on booking.com have error. very rude, unfriendly handling by crew and manager on my cancellation request due to different price deal. Very angry and disappointed on the service.

Review 68:nothing

Review 69:Mosquitoes! There were no screens on the rooms so had to keep windows closed with A/C on all night

Review 70:Location was excellent and plenty of space . Layout of resort was good given difficulty of building in this location

Review 71:Our tree house was next to the main path (most are) which meant we had to keep our curtains closed for any privacy including the bathroom! We felt a little exposed. The upper bed area was very hot and we wouldn't want to sleep there. The site needs a little upgrade, lights out on an uneven path but it is a lovely place. The Cassowary Cafe does lovely breakfasts but our dinner was dreadful, we didn't return. I didn't see people eating in there twice, so i think we weren't alone with the experience. The building is lovely though, so it could be improved. There are nice places to eat in walking distance. Try Whet.

Review 72:Great location, short walk to the gorgeous beaches and most of the activities in the Cape Tribulation area. Swimming pool was lovely and the site looked very nice. I would return but I'd stay in the standard rooms rather than a lodge.

Review 73:You have to go to the lounge room to use the internet. When I used theinternet it was extremely slow. It took me an hour to send 1 basic emailsince it kept logging me off.

Review 74:Although we had neighbours we were not able to hear them. Slept througha peaceful night.

Review 75:Few dirty spots in our room but can appreciate the difficulty of keeping clean in the tropics

Review 76:Rooms are fairly secluded and set amongst rainforest. 10 min to beach

Review 77:The room wasn't very nice, while it was in bad condition and everything was very old. No proteins of any kind on breakfast. Wifi only accessible on reception area.

Review 78:We did stay in pool view suite after gettin a free upgrade through booking.com. The environment was really nice! It was exiting to spend couple of night in the middle of rainforest and listen sounds of it. Pool area was peacefull and very nice especially on evening. Got also tips where to go while dining in the restaurant!

Review 79:Website was very deceiving.Customer service was there as you checked in but once payment was made that is where the service ended. I gave 48 hours notice that we would be cancelling our last night I was meet with well that's your choice we have a 72 hour cancellation policy which they could not show me. Upon check out 1 day early and $175 out of pocket they decide to try to hit us with another $45 for my son who was with us when we checked in....money hungry. The accomodation ( loft) was old run down and in need of repairs. the bathroom looked older than me like something from the 60/70s in the rainforest where mozzies are rampant there we no flyscreens on the windows. Old uncomfortable beds. Wifi was advertised but was not available for the duration of our stay...no fun when your trying to find things to do in the local area and the receptionist has absolutely no idea and was not interested in helping at all.No TV's in any of the rooms we were informed very rudely that there was one small TV in the common area ,however another one of the rude staff from the lodge parked his bum on the longe and would not allow any of the paying guests to change the channel even though we were the paying guests. The there are not to many dining options so they advertised BBQ's these BBQ's had no cover over the top of them ( great in a Rainforrest when it rains all of the time) we had to drive 15 minutes to buy a box of overpriced matches to light the BBQ as it igniter on any of the two BBQ's did not work. The lodge common kitchen left a lot to be desired it did not look like it had been cleaned in years .There was also a volley ball court adversised but we searched and could not find it anywhere.Overall one of the only positives apart from leaving this hell hole of a lodge was the location it was close to Cape Tribulation beach and Myall Beach and the drive in and more importantly out was beautiful.

Review 80:The location and with a lot of work it could be better

Review 81:I like a soft bed and unfortunately the mattress was a little firm - but that's just personal preference. Children running around the shared verandah, and past our bedroom at 6:45am when I am on holidays and want a sleep in.

Review 82:Location Natural environment that the resort seems proud of and wants to maintain. Most staff good and one extra ood. Helpful and pleasant No TV :-) Spacious room

Review 83:It was all good - we had the best time staying there.

Review 84:Have stayed at several places at Cape Trib & fern tree is the best by far- rooms are comfortable & not damp, resort is excellent for families- pools are superb, we are local & will stay here everytime we visit. Thank u.

Review 85:The restaurant had only one waiter and as such everything took a ridiculously long time. The food was good when we finally got it though!

Review 86:The location, view from the room, the rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 87:Breakfast were nice, not a big selection though

Review 88:Location in the heart of rainforest, nice room with big windows to stay connected with a nature, clean and comfortable room

Review 89:Backpackers room got cleaned every day and have bathroom in the room, very good breakfast buffet for $10 eat as much you can,,,,,,,,,,,,,, good tour desk.

Review 90:Room only cleaned occasionally; lack of being able to access the common room after 5pm to use wifi; no where to sit in bedroom, no chairs!

Review 91:The location, the bed, the breakfast and the music! Living in such a remote area makes you realise how reliant we are on creature comforts.

Review 92:Great location, just a short walk through the bush to the beach and surrounded by forest. Beautiful swimming pools. Delicious dinner in the Cassowary Cafe on site. Liked that there was no TV in the room!

Review 93:The restaurant wasn't open on one of the nights we stayed. The whole place could do with some TLC. There is a guest kitchen & it is a bit ordinary. Not sure how often it gets a good clean!

Review 94:The location was good & I really like the individual villas. They were quite private.

Review 95:Our room had windows all the way round - it was like sleeping in a glass house (not possible to close damaged shutters properly). The room had no TV (not neccessarily a problem but at that price...), a Gecko fell out of the Aircon, the whole property seemed neglected and the room wasn't made.

Review 96:Nice pool area.

Review 97:Nil concerns

Review 98:The food was really good, the staff were really nice. The rooms were clean and the wild life was at the front door. The restaurant was in the forest . Meters away from the beach in the middle of the jungle. Will be returning.

Review 99:we stayed in a garden loft, Showers: no hot water, no toaster, the promised tropical fruit breakfast buffet presented as a ( rather rudimentary ) basic continental offer with only toast, jam, butter, juice, cereals & joghurt of minor quality, receptionist needed a couple of minutes to find our booking

Review 100:Rain forest location, nicely & well maintained poolsides, spacious veranda, hair dryer was provided after asking for one

Review 101:I can't really think of any negatives. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 102:Great location, very nice landscaping, rooms simple but clean. Central computer facility is a great help since phones, etc. don't work in the isolated area. Good restaurant and helpful staff.

Review 103:- nothing. you are in the middle of the rain forest and you can not expect more!

Review 104:+ the staff was super: the girl at the reception desk was very helpful; she gave us all the informations we need to enjoy our stay and to find good and easy walking paths in the surrounding. + good restaurant (in Cape Tribulation there are really few alternatives to dine but this one is really good) + quiet and clean cottage accomodation in the middle of the forest + free wifi: essential in a place where there is not mobile service.

Review 105:My cousins from the UK booked a horse ride and waited for 45 minutes before it was apparent that they had been left behind. The person on reception could have made a phone call to check early on and didn't and then it was too late. They re booked for the next morning at 8.00am and when no one had appeared after 10 minutes they were understandably concerned however the manager told them not to worry. "If you were waiting for a lawyer in Sydney you could be kept waiting for hours!!!" They were not impressed!!

Review 106:The location was good, and some of the staff were great, one wasn't.

Review 107:The restaurant was so popular we were unable to get a booking for dinner!!

Review 108:Reception staff very helpful. Individual rustic cottages situated amongst the rainforest were situated far enough apart to provide you with peace & privacy to enjoy the setting.

Review 109:The Bathroom was falling apart and filthy. The Bed was hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. The Windows had no locks on them and the aircon did not work. We froze the one night we stayed.

Review 110:The polished wooden floors were lovely. The Free Wifi was helpful and the Restaurant was nice.

Review 111:The room was the worst ever. Smelled roten and full of moist and damp. Never book a single room Apparently the small houses are better

Review 112:The surroundings

Review 113:The rooms could use some updating. New furniture and painting would be nice. Deck furniture was worn and needs to be replaced too.

Review 114:Wow, what a beautiful setting. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our private cabin and sitting on the deck in the evening listening to the birds and drinking wine! Gorgeous grounds, appreciated the free wifi to keep in touch with the kids back home and the restaurants food was tasty and affordable.

Review 115:Nothing to dislike so long as you appreciate that you are in the rain forest, it rains and things are damp.

Review 116:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Interesting wildlife, brush turkeys wandering, fruit bats hanging, frogs n toads croaking... Really great beach close by and a decent boardwalk to get to beach for more adventurous... Great activities nearby, sea kayaks, night jungle walks, tree zip wires etc..

Review 117:Outdated décor Hard beds WiFi not available in rooms

Review 118:Situated right in the forrest and only a short walk to the coast The outdoor seating in the cafe is great!

Review 119:We did'nt have much option as to where we ate in the evening given that there are only two restaurants in a 25km radius so we ate at the Lodge where Wayne ( Resident cook ) cooked the worst curry I've ever eaten, even the Rice was inedible!!

Review 120:Hotel & rooms were just like the photos which is why we chose this Hotel.Reception staff were really welcoming & helpful

Review 121:Very clean, comfortable lodge, with exciting attic room - really felt we were sleeping in the middle of the rainforest. Exciting animal sounds at night, but the security of solid walls! Excellent breakfast included in the very reasonable cost.

Review 122:Breakfast was rather dull. Nice fruit, but otherwise industrial style bread and not much else.

Review 123:A really unique location in the middle of the rainforest, not far from ocean and various activities nearby, at a reasonable price. Friendly and accommodating staff. Restaurant for evening dinners is quite good. Nice common space as well.

Review 124:It would have been nice if the room was stocked with a microwave; there aren't a lot of places to eat nearby.

Review 125:This was a fun place for the kids. First of all t is in the rainforest and the grounds are amazing. There is a nice breakfast spread that you eat either outdoors or indoors, but eat outdoors if you can, A Butcher bird may visit you. There is a communal area with a pool table and ping pong table as well as a tv. The staff was very helpful too. It's about 1 km/ less than a mile to the beach through a nice walk

Review 126:But the buildings are very tired and need lots of maintenance to bring this property up to scratch: eg the entry door would not lock on our first cabin so we asked to be moved, and the aircon did not work in the next. The bathrooms date back to the 70's or 80's, very basic rooms, no fly screens, broken blinds, creaky mattresses.... Enough said - stay somewhere else.

Review 127:The gardens/forest are lovely. The position and ambiance have so much potential. With a modernisation, this tired old resort could again be attractive and comfortable.

Review 128:Room in need of a lick of paint and repair to the blinds.

Review 129:Great location for visiting Cape Trib and Ocean Safari reef cruise (highly recommended). We had read some of the negative reviews on this site before we visited but they did not match our experience. We found the staff helpful. The in house restaurant food was excellent (you should reserve a table in advance when busy as it is quite small and fills up). Yes the room was a little scruffy around the edges/ tired but had air con and a large comfortable bed. Maybe we got lucky but we had extra towels! There was a damp smell in the bathroom but this is the rainforest. The swimming pools looked good although we did not use them. There was a communal games room which again was a little tired but still great for kids with table tennis, pool etc and tv. No tv in the room. Decent value compared to the other hotels available when we booked. Great external restaurant just down the road too, called Whet.

Review 130:Food was appalling . So bland and tasteless. Not cheap either. Difficult to find your way around at night. Mattress was rock hard. Shower dripped all night.

Review 131:Location. Grounds were lovely and green. Lounge area a good idea.

Review 132:Breakfast- this was very, very basic (back packer-style)

Review 133:Setting in the rain forest and spacious room

Review 134:Breakfast included was great, beautiful place with really friendly staff

Review 135:1 KM to the beach areas

Review 136:Quiet remote location for a cabin

Review 137:Cold showers

Review 138:That we had to leave because our trip had ended

Review 139:We really enjoyed how helpful and friendly all the staff were and there was a great vibe
