Reviews for Quinta de Marrocos
Review 1:Everything was great.
Review 2:This is a beautiful, rustic quinta that grows and makes its own port & table wine. Separate communal living room w/ fireplace. You're there amongst the grapes, olive trees, fruit trees. Comfortable bed and bath. Personal attention from owner, his family & staff. Excellent wifi for those who need it. A place to get away from it all.
Review 3:The opportunity to stay at a quinta and learn something of the port and wine production. The owner and his family were cheerful, engaging and wonderful hosts. The optional dinner, with port and wine tasting, was enjoyable and a chance to socialize with other guests. The food was average and the evening a bit pricey.
Review 4:The only negative thing I could say about our stay is that the quinta dogs woke me a couple of times in the night.
Review 5:Caesar, the owner, is a very interesting and entertaining person. He took us on a tour of the quinta and explained how the port is made there. We also sampled several of his ports and wines...very good. His daughters also work at the quinta. We met one of the daughters, Catherine and she seemed like a lovely person. Our room was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed walks through the vineyards where we had beautiful views of the Douro valley. We met several interesting couples and shared dinners with them at the quinta. The meals were excellent and the conversation was a highlight of our stay there. I would highly recommend eating at Quinta de Marrocos as well as staying there.
Review 6:The food - both at dinner and breakfast - was awful. Dinner was grossly overcooked though copious. Breakfast - how is it possible to spoil a breakfast; this place managed to do that.
Review 7:We enjoyed the enthusiasm and knowledge of Mr. Cesar Sequeira the owner of the property , vineyard and farm. His tour was excellent
Review 8:Although the rooms were adequate, it was rather dark and the bed wasn't comfortable at all. We also thought the dinner served in the restaurant was overpriced by Portuguese standards. Had much better meals out in town for less money. Could not get wifi signal
Review 9:fabulous location and a great welcome from very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived quite late and they were very kind to squeeze us in at the last minute for dinner
Review 10:Marvelous estate, nearly castle. End of 19th century interiors. Arrived late-no problem. Degustation of self-made porto wine with owner. Self-made jams and marmelade for ideal breakfast. Perfect separate bathroom. Many vineyard terraces. You may walk along the vast territory. You can stay after check-out. Wonderful dog named Marrocos. Amazing sights of Douro valley. WiFi at every terrace.
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:This beautiful quinta is in perfect location - you can see the Douro river through your window, easily reach Peso da Regua. Staff is great, very helpful, gives you good tips about the area. We enjoyed dinner and wine tasting.
Review 13:The furniture of the room were beautiful to look at like in a museum. However, it was very uncomfortable to sleep in that really old bed and the comfort is not very high. Therefore, we felt that the Quinta is overpriced, which is also reflected by high prices for food and drinks.
Review 14:The location of the Quinta is a good starting point for exploring the great Douro valley. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. The surrounding of the Quinta is beautiful and located directly at the Douro river.
Review 15:Relaxed, informal, rustic, cozy, quiet, friendly atmosphere. Loved being able to pick grapes with the regular workers and stomping the grapes back at the winery. What a wonderful, fun experience. Caesar & his daughters and the rest of the staff were very warm, caring and welcoming. So were the cat & dog! The port wine exceeded expectations.
Review 16:Wifi was a little slow, however better than some places we have stayed in Portugal. Unfortunately another guest when we stayed had dietary requirements and we were given fish instead of the usual meat for the main course. It would have been nice if their food was cooked separately and ours not changed too as were not a fan of the Codfish. The starters however were divine. Due to the relatively remote location, without a car you could not eat elsewhere so staying multiple nights may feel a little bit restrictive, however it was a fantastic experience for one night.
Review 17:The whole premise of this accommodation is to stay on a working winery, have a tour and taste some excellent port. As part of the stay you would normally eat at the premise. We stayed for one night and had an enjoyable experience. The staff were friendly and on hand to help, we turned up later than expected and they delayed the tour to allow us to get ourselves settled. The rooms were comfortable, unfortunately we had the twin room with the external bathroom as the doubles were booked. However this room was very spacious and comfortable. The separate private bathroom was well furnished and very clean, with possibly the most powerful shower I have every used! The tour was good and some of the port was excellent. I would recommend this place for a visit for the quality of the port alone but also the whole experience.
Review 18:Needs bigger pillows.
Review 19:The accommodations and views and staff were remarkable. The other guests were great, as was the wines and ports. Cesar, the owner, had great stories and knowledge.
Review 20:I do not like to complain, as this hotel was so good, but the bed was uncomfortable
Review 21:this hotel is so user friendly, the staff were excellent and the Caesar the host a total gentleman. The tour of the vineyard was very informative. The evening meal was excellent and perfectly prepared by Ana.
Review 22:We booked a room with air-conditioning, which we got eventually, but it turned out to be the only one in the Quinta, and we had to request it. We do not recommend ordering dinner at the facility because of low quality and high price.
Review 23:We liked the owner, his knowledge and explanations, and the staff. The wines they sell are first rate.
Review 24:Caesar, his family and staff were very friendly and informative. Beautiful location overlooking River Douro and vineyards. Good food and accommodation. Recommend the estate tour and dinner.
Review 25:Quinta de Marrocos is a charming, family-owned vineyard with quaint, comfortable rooms. The courtyard has a lovely view of the Douro River. But the real character lies in meeting Cesar, his daughter, Rita and Sofia, a hostess at the vineyard. Cesar spent a great deal of time explaining the history, politics and the process of making Port wine, and running a small vineyard in the Douro Region. Rita is a wonderful cook - we had both dinner and breakfast there. And Sofia ... Sofia is so full of warmth and fun that we got attached in a day. We wish the Quinta de Marrocos contained success!!
Review 26:We would really have liked to have been able to make some hot drinks later on.
Review 27:We liked the ambience and the welcoming owner and staff. We enjoyed the home-cooked food and produce from the farm and were very well entertained on a tour of the vineyards and cellars. The port is also delicious.
Review 28:Our one night at this wonderful Hotel with few on the Douro River was a lovely surprise after all. The dinner with wine from the Marrocos winery was delicious. Later on the owner gave us a tour through the win yard and the house. It was great experience to feel so close to the people and the land in this house.
Review 29:Google maps unfortunately tells you the entrance to the place is a hairpin dirt road that leads you into the vineyard itself (where the grapes grow). We had a terrifying experience getting ourselves out of that and to the real entrance. Not their fault, but something to correct. Wifi was also only available in certain locations, but did work fine when we found it.
Review 30:There was an optional add-on dinner made entirely by the quinta with locally grown vegetables and their own wines and ports which was absolutely wonderful. We got knowledge and homecooked Portuguese food. We had it both nights we stayed and it was amazing. We also got to know the staff extremely well and they were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Gorgeous views of the Douro Valley everywhere on the property. Quaint rustic decor. Friendly adorable animals on the property (two German shepherds and a very pregnant cat).
Review 31:Friendly staff. Home stay feel and welcome.
Review 32:The bed was uncomfortably hard. A clock outside the room was chiming loudly every hour through the night.
Review 33:Pleasant and helpful Staff
Review 34:The keys to Doors did not fit good enough
Review 35:We liked everything!
Review 36:The people we're wonderful. We could not have been treated better. Don't hesitate - Go!
Review 37:Outdated place in general..
Review 38:Nice with a pool - it was basic though..
Review 39:Sympathy, kindness and availability of the owners
