Reviews for Happy Elephant Bungalows

Review 1:We paid 70 usd for a two days tour (which I booked through Happy Elephant), and the next day I met people that paid 55 USD for exactly the same tour (but they booked through an agency in town).

Review 2:The staff members are friendly and very helpful - they helped us to book a tour and hire scooters. The food is good. The area is very green and peaceful.

Review 3:Very upset with the quality of the staff at this place. They forgot to give us items of our laundry back, my girlfriend noticed her shorts were missing and collected them off the line the morning we were leaving. However nothing else on the line was ours, we've now arrived in Kratie to discover her custom-made dress is missing. We called and received no apology or sense of urgency to help us find it.

Review 4:Good location Good value for money

Review 5:They ignored my reservation and had no rooms available. I arrived in town and called for a pickup at about 8pm, only to be told the rooms were all occupied.

Review 6:Stayed in a double bungalow which had a comfy bed + mosquito net and nicely sized ensuite. Restaurant/bar area is really nice to hang out in and meet people.

Review 7:Kept up until 3am by a party / drinking session led by the male owner (he was the loudest person there) who obviously has little regard for guests who want to sleep at night & see the area by day and while the female owner, his wife, is away in France; the staff is also disinterested in their work & so putting the two together you have a place without ownership or management. The guests (a party-crowd attracted to the hills to drink - is that not a dichotomy - at the cheapest place in town) & be noisy when they feel like it i.e. all the time & we were woken up at 7am, after little sleep, by the same crowd shouting across the place about their hangovers & STDs before heading off to spend their day at a cafe in town doing nothing (why travel?). Apparently, we were saved from a 2nd party by the fact that the male owner had gone to Phnom Penh for a few days. There were attempts to start one without him by this crowd but their lack of a leader to lead them to drink meant this one stopped much earlier. We moved into town for the rest of our stay - the first time I recall moving out of somewhere since the early 1990s. Yes, it was that bad! The hut was clean but there is random rubbish lying about the complex which again makes you wonder what the management & staff are doing apart from collecting bar takings. The drain in the hut immediately clogged up & flooded the bathroom, while we went around with tape & plugged up about 40 holes in the mosquito net.

Review 8:In the trees / forest at the edge of town (which we thought would open us up to the noises of the forest but ... see 'what you didn't like). Anything else to like about the place goes out of the window when you don't really sleep.

Review 9:The staff was lazy and very unhelpful... Also, one of the people working there would get very drunk every night and got very close to me, making me feel very unconfortable... I have spoken to other girls who have stayed there and they all had the same problem. Girls travelling solo, don't go there!

Review 10:The sorroundings are beautiful

Review 11:Care needed when getting to your room. Care needed.

Review 12:Located a few hundred metres from where the bus drops you off.Access to and from your room would be rather difficult for older people. Price is right though.

Review 13:No toilet seat or sink in the rooms bathroom. Cigarette burns on the sheets. Huge gaps in the bungalow causing leaks when it rained- which was often. Menus in the restaurant were filthy.

Review 14:The owner I fantastic, very warm and friendly. Willing to organise tours, buses and pick you up/drop you off. Nice laid back atmosphere in the bar area. Very cheap.

Review 15:We did not like it the fact that we propose to join a Spanish group for a trek to $ 60. And after the trek we had paid $ 75 because no Spanish. Very disappointed! If I had known, I would have been at the Greenhouse for excursions!

Review 17:They were building new bungalows and they usually started making noise early in the morning. Some of the staff members were very lazy.

Review 18:Very friendly and helpfull owner.Good athmosfere.Quite good restaurant and bar which is backpacker's favourite spot where you can meet a lot of good English speaking locals.

Review 19:For the time of year which is now very cold in the region of Cambodia, the rooms only had 1 blanket on the bed, at night time it was freezing so need more bed linen (blankets)

Review 20:Friendly staff, ok location, nice rooms

Review 21:Owner was difficult to engage, and irritated/disinterested when I asked about tours- lots of "I don't know, I'll see" for 3 days. Wifi wasn't working and there appeared to be little interest in fixing it. Loud "doof" music at night, contrasting the quiet bush setting - just not for me.

Review 22:Bungalow had a private bathroom, setting was nice.

Review 23:Service was interesting Get what you pay for Room and bathroom wasn't that clean Blankets dirty

Review 24:Very cheap Good clothes line Nice ventilation in room Friendly and helpful staff Nice location Good vibe- very chilled

Review 25:The atmosphere should be relaxed for the customers not for the staff who looked to me very lazzy...

Review 26:There is a good and relaxed atmosphere in this place... The food is really good... they are even serving homemade french fries ... just lovely.. Mot the owner of the place know very well the area and can provide precious advices.

Review 27:No hot water (but what can you expect for that price!!)

Review 28:Cheap rooms $5 p/night for double room. Fan included. Short walk to town center. Funny and helpful staff.

Review 29:Close to the town center but we could sleep listening to the birds, it was really good and peaceful.

Review 33:Lovely peacfull garden. In the night you see the fireflies

Review 34:Staff were really friendly and helpfull

Review 35:Dirty sheets, noisy at night, a lot of rubbish around the bungalows, invasion of ants in the bathroom.

Review 36:Cheap

Review 37:The food was not that good and the noise from around wakes u up early

Review 38:Good location, and the staff helped organised the trekking

Review 39:Loved the atmosphere. Family run place. Personal attention. Good food. Lovely people.

Review 40:Don't mention the elephant valley project. Whether you want it or not, they will tell you not to go there. They will talk about it for over 30 minutes. All lies, they just want you to book a tour at their place so they can get commision (a lot of commission) Bungalow leaked No hot water

Review 41:The food qas allright

Review 42:Owner was a little to friendly when he had to much to drink. Never a good thing in front of the girlfriend and new baby.

Review 43:They were great about making tour for you. Within 30 mins I had a half day ready to go, elephant mahout training and tickets for my next stop.
