Reviews for Hotel Elefant

Review 1:Great traditional, old hotel in the heart of Salzburg. Excellent location for exploring the old city area. Very good breakfasts with both hot and cold food. Parking easily available in nearby under ground garage with a reduced price for hotel guests. Hotel gives you an access code for your car to enter the restricted area to drop off and pick up your luggage. Excellent service.

Review 2:Our room had a slightly funny smell but we only noticed it when we first walked in. It wasn't enough to moan about.

Review 3:The staff were so helpful and friendly, via email before our stay and also in person during our stay. The location is superb, right in the old town close to so many attractions and bus routes. The beds were extremely comfortable and our room was very quiet. The restaurant and bar were also great, delicious food and with friendly staff.

Review 4:That we only stayed three nights.

Review 5:Excellent room facing the astronomical and the Christmas market located in Old Town (Stare Mesto). Wonderful staff. Very good breakfast.

Review 6:Location location location ! Wonderful breakfast with loads of choices and very friendly and helpful staff - we travelled with two young kids and all requests were completely fulfilled. Besides - 700 years history in air!

Review 7:A lovely character hotel with friendly helpful staff and everything you could want. The location is excellent, in middle of the old part of Salzburg or the "Centre of the centre" as the taxi driver described it. Breakfast was included and was nice with breads, croissants, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, juice, bacon and eggs. We had a superior room which had an extra sitting area but our son's standard room also had plenty of room. The room was warm but we were able to open a window and cool it down. The bed was very comfortable. I'd recommend this as a great place to stay in Salzburg.

Review 8:The charging of my credit card 6 months in advance is not necessary. Also, had to ask for a receipt upon leaving.

Review 9:The buffet breakfast was excellent. You could also get ice from the restaurant and that is important to Americans.

Review 10:Customer service was somewhat lacking. The reception staff could be a bit cold, did not go out of their way to be helpful. This hotel is very difficult to access by car. If you are driving into the area I would call ahead as you need an access code to enter the pedestrian only Altstadt. Some of the furnishings in the room itself were a bit on the cheaper side and in some ways did not feel consistent with a 4 star experience.

Review 11:The location was excellent, located right in the center of the Altstadt. This is a perfect location for visiting the Christmas Market, visiting the Cathedral and the Fort. You are so much in the center of everything, it's quite easy to pop in to rest or drop off shopping bags before continuing on your way (this is a great convenience if traveling with young children). Overall the room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable. The furnishings in the common areas were very beautiful.

Review 12:Too many panhandlers and beggars all around the Hotel and everywhere else in Salzburg. This will soon negatively effect your business.

Review 13:Boutique quality of Hotel...close to everything in the heart of the Salzburg pedestrian district

Review 14:Hotel Elefant is a charming property in an excellent central location. Situated in a tall, slim building in the Old Town, all the major tourist attractions and shops are right on the doorstep. We had a very pleasant room; breakfast - continental or cooked - was good and the hotel also has a wonderful small restaurant downstairs with typical Austrian food. You need to book a table as it is very popular with the locals as well. Excellent location, nice quiet room with a very comfortable bed, clean, friendly staff. We loved it. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 15:The building itself is quite beautiful and historic. I loved the interior decor, which pays homage to the building's history, but updates it in a lovely, streamlined, contemporary way. The staff are very helpful and accessible. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious, with food of very high quality, nicely presented. The room where breakfast is served has gorgeous and luminous reddish orange walls so that you feel as if you are suspended in warmth and light, perfect for a chilly December day. The restaurant associated with the hotel is also very, very attractive and the food there is quite good. I can't wait to go back.

Review 16:Perfect location in the centre of the old town providing immediate access to historic sites, museums and general places of interest. Our visit coincided with Advent therefore the Christmas markets were particularly attractive selling better quality merchandise compared with other European cities we have visited.

Review 17:Small hotel, small and poor lobby, not designed, old carpet in lobby, old elevator, poor christmas decoration, so expensive.!!!

Review 18:Location, beautiful carpet near rooms

Review 19:We stayed at the Hotel Elefant in December for 2 nights, primarily to visit the fabulous Salzburg Christmas Market. The hotel is ideally positioned and within easy walking distance of most places of interest. We booked an executive double which was nicely appointed and met all of our requirements. The bed was very comfortable and everything spotlessly clean (and I am very fussy!). The only thing that may bother some guests are the church bells which seem to ring at all hours, although for us this was not a major problem. Breakfast is buffet style with plenty of choice ~ fresh fruits, cheeses and cold meats along with scrambled eggs and bacon, which is constantly being checked and topped up by the friendly staff. Various teas and juices are also available along with a wonderful full flavoured coffee. Although I was keen to try out my rusty German, everyone spoke perfect English and seemed very amiable. We ate in the hotel's dinner bar and had a traditional Austrian dish of casseroled beef and bread dumplings which was perfectly cooked and most delicious! We intended to try the famous Salzburg nockerl which is apparently very good at the hotel, but alas had no room! If like us you like to use local public transport, the no.10 bus from the airport drops you very close to the hotel (at the Rathaus) and costs 2 euros. If you intend to do a lot of sightseeing, the Salzburg Card (which you can buy from the travel agent at Salzburg airport) might be worth looking in to. It gives you entrance to most of the major attractions and unlimited use of local public transport. We paid €32 each for a 48 hour card and definitely would have spent more without it. Overall, the Elefant is a wonderful place from which to explore beautiful Salzburg and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Review 20:Great hotel, in the centre of the old town, very close to all the attractions. Helpful attentive staff, modern comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast choices. Also restaurant. 150m from bus stop for frequent service to airport and other areas of the city. Everything needed for a short visit.

Review 21:For some reason my phone wouldn't connect to the Internet. Although my computer connected no problem. My brother had the same experience but when he used a different browser he was able to connect. Unfortunately, I only had Google Chrome.

Review 22:Location was great. Breakfast was really good!--- above average!

Review 23:No fitness centre. Staff need to be a bit more friendly especially knowing that we were returning 25years after out honeymoon.

Review 24:Location in the old city is excellent

Review 25:No Tea or Coffee M/C in the room or anywhere in the Hotel.Must be the only 4* hotel in Europe without this facility. No room service. You could go to the Restaurant next door order drinks and pay which they would then bring to your room with a surcharge Not very convenient just to get a cup of tea or snack.

Review 26:Location& Breakfast

Review 27:Everything was great. Everyone was great (except for 1 slightly unhelpful and unwelcoming front desk young man). But everything and everyone else was perfect.

Review 28:The most perfect location - walk to everything. And such a charming place. We had a lovely stay. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 29:Liked almost everything!

Review 30:The room was lovely; the breakfast room was elegant and the breakfast quite good with lots of variety. Ohhh, the coffee! Very comfortable bed.

Review 31:Brilliant location in centre of old town. Quiet location (no traffic!) rooms very good spacious extremely warm and the Breakfast was fabulous. Can't recommend enough.

Review 32:The Elefant is charming, comfortable, and truly Austrian in its hospitality, decor, and elegance. Many hotels are "cookie cutter" in international style, but the Elefant is purely itself. We chose it as our favorite hotel in a recent trip that included three good hotels in England, two in Germany, one in Prague, and three in Austria.

Review 33:Really excellent location in the old town. Very good restaurant in the hotel and generous breakfast. Such comfortable beds my wife wants one like theirs in my home!

Review 34:Whilst the rooms are stunningly beautiful and comfortable, there wasn't a dressing table mirror and stool/chair. My wife had to stand in the bathroom for her hair and make up. The rooms didn't have any tea/coffee making facilities. This did not detract away from my fantastic stay but it was unusual. Whilst breakfast was very good, plus there was plenty to eat, no toaster. There was all this beautiful looking bread and jams but no toaster.

Review 35:The hotel is perfect for location; you are right in the centre of the Old Town with everything you want to visit within walking distance. The Hotel Elfant is spotless...everywhere. The rooms may be small, but considering the age and design, so comfortable...and the beds are like marshmellows! Breakfast is what you would expect, but is plentyfull and very good.

Review 36:Had to remind staff of need for no feathers, despite special note being put on the booking. No non-feather duvets available so hotel provided blanket in duvet cover..... Ok but disappointing hotel of this standard couldn't provide alternative.

Review 37:Comfortable bed. Price through booking.com was very good value for money. Nice spread at breakfast.

Review 38:Nothing

Review 39:The hotel is located in center of old Salzburg and is beautifully maintained. We received excellent service throughout our stay and cannot wait to go back. The breakfast was as good as any we've have had anywhere in europe and the dinner bar downstairs is worth a visit.

Review 40:The hotel is located near shops, restaurants, and museums. All within walking distance. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast was very good with a nice selection of food.

Review 41:This hotel was fantastic. Right in the heart of the oldtown very close to shopping and great restaurants. we enjoyed the hotel very much. Will definitely stay here again if in Salzburg. Nothing negative, but parking was difficult due to construction on the main entrance to the area. I'd recommend calling the hotel and asking their opinion on where to park.

Review 42:We love this hotel. This is the second time I have stayed here from Australia and love the location, the rooms and facilities and friendly helpful service. The restaurant is also wonderful. Everything is spotless, and exactly how I would have it at home - this hotel is a gem find!

Review 43:Room lighting very poor. Sink faucet water only went on when hands beneath, like a public sink.

Review 44:Location. Helpful and very nice and efficient staff. Great breakfast.

Review 45:The shower only having half a wall of glass. Required one to squeeze into the far corner to wash ones hair.

Review 46:The location could not have been better, right in the middle of the old city. We were able to walk to everything. The room was large, comfortable and lovely. Breakfast was good. The concierge was an incredible help as he knew our plans to travel on to Munich were thwarted due to the border issues with immigrants. He pursued and secured for us our best alternate travel.

Review 47:The room was quite small, but the bed was very comfortable..just wish hotels would dump the dreaded duvet. Way too hot and no way to cool off

Review 48:Location, location, location! Great breakfast

Review 49:Getting to and leaving the hotel wasn't the best experience especially when one has bags ! Cost of the room was too high when compared to the facilities provided. Quality of staff could be improved.

Review 50:The location. In the old part of the city and close to most of the interesting sights.

Review 51:The hotel is in a great central location in old town. The rooms were clean and spacious. Staff was efficient. Finding the hotel was a trick getting through the barriers because it is a driving restricted area. Luckily we did not need our car and once put in the designated parking area, we were able to walk to all locations easily.

Review 52:Bed and sheets -very uncomfortable. Breakfast was good but not as good as many other European hotels we visited on this trip.

Review 53:Location was convenient. Staff was very pleasant and the overall appearance of the hotel was very nice. The shower was great but the bathroom was very small.

Review 54:Parking is really tough... try to take a cab, have to walk a few blocks. Call ahead! Weather was great, but if it is not..The location is nice, but the rooms could have been more quaint. Recently remodel but should have kept the quaintness o the original structure. If the price is closer to 200 eu then grab it.

Review 55:Good location.

Review 56:We thought that parking was onsite but this wasn't the case. No big deal, we parked in the Aldstadt parking garage which was maybe 500 meters away from the hotel.

Review 57:Great location, comfy beds, modern rooms, delicious breakfast buffet and friendly staff

Review 58:We had a car and we didn't until we were looking for the hotel that we could not drive near the hotel and the parking for the hotel was far. After we parked somewhere else were we told that we can a code to drive up to unload.

Review 59:A walk to all the important historic places.

Review 60:The ONLY downside was parking. If you plan to drive to this hotel know that parking is hard to find and costs around 25 euro a night. The old town has alot of one way streets so you may have to do the loop a few times before you figure it out. Also, our GPS kept trying to take us down streets we were not allowed to go so be warned.

Review 61:Amazing hotel, really liked everything about it.

Review 62:I was put in room that should have been our relatives room. She paid less and got put in a premium room. I was charged for a room with air but there wasn't air.

Review 63:Clean

Review 64:Nothing.

Review 65:This is my second time staying at the Hotel Elefant. The staff were very friendly and the facility was clean and well kept. The location could not have been better. You are in the middle of the old city steps away from major tourist attractions. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Salzburg.

Review 66:Hotel has a great Location. There is Tea and coffee in the room which was an added bonus. Mozart Chocolate on bed on arrival. Very helpful staff. Crown pillow. Upgrade to larger bathroom was great. No traffic airplane noise. Superb!

Review 67:The one elevator is so tiny you can fit about two people with luggage in there. Not for the claustrophobic. But once we dropped our luggage off we used the stairs; which is worth seeing all the antiques in the hall foyers.

Review 68:The hotel is an excellent boutique hotel in a great location We had a superior room with huge bathroom, sitting area, and King bed The AC was very much appreciated on a very hot September evening. It was so quiet, clean, gorgeously decorated and comfortable we didn't want to leave. Had the perch in the adjoining restaurant: fantastic. Included an amazing breakfast in a swanky room with tablecloths and servers. Would stay here again in a heartbeat

Review 69:Not permitted to smoke out front so we went up the street and were able to. Personnel not very friendly. Pre charge credit card and charge day of checkout. Double amount of $ tied up for 3-5 days. Not necessary.

Review 70:The location of the hotel

Review 71:We LOVED this hotel. We may be a bit biased because they upgraded us to a a larger room--which was great, because it was a delayed honeymoon for us. The service was excellent, the breakfast outstanding, the location unbeatable, and the irce just right. The hotel is classy and feels like home at the same time. We were sad to leave.

Review 72:We travelled a bit around Europe and found this to be the BEST value for money hotel. Staff were friendly and understood English and location was fantastic. I would highly recommend!!

Review 73:The free wifi was very frustrating in that you were logged out after only a minute of inactivity. Was constantly having to log back in!

Review 74:The scrambled eggs and bacon were delicious!

Review 75:Room was too small, window above kitchen restaurant, a lot of noise and strong smell. We had an early morning checkout, I was sick and struggling to get my stuff down from the room. Taxi driver got upset, and then the hotel staff got out on the street, opened the taxi door and started shouting at my family for delaying the taxi departure by 20 minutes. A complete unprofessional and unacceptable behavior that I have not experienced in any hotel before.

Review 76:Great location, close to attractions. Clean rooms.

Review 77:The reception staff are so seriouse and never smile or welcoming, they are so stiff and don't have the receptions etiquettes. The breakfast is so limited and the staff are unhelpful and angry. They don't know how to deal with international guests. Difficult to enter to the hotel if u have a car.

Review 78:In the middle of the platz.

Review 79:Rooms were very small. Noise and smell from the restaurant wafted up. If you travel during a hea wave, you need air con.

Review 80:Located in the historic center.

Review 81:Plenty of space and bedding for three people. I am not sure why it says max. 2 people when making the reservation.

Review 82:The location of Hotel Elefant is ideal! It is a charming boutique hotel. Our room Executive Double was quite large and accommodated the three of us (with a pull out couch) quite comfortably. The breakfast was very good! I would highly recommend this location in the Old Town area!

Review 83:The only thing we was not happy about was that pets are accepted and my partner is allegies with pets...

Review 84:Almost everything... Staff are great with help and finding things in the area, the location is in the middle of the city and the food breakfast had a great variety.

Review 85:There was no air conditioner and with the 34 degree heat we were pretty uncomfortable. Also the internet was frustrating. It would go offline if you weren't constantly using it.

Review 86:We loved the central location and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 87:room was small but we were not there much with so much to see It is a bit difficult to get to with construction on the entrance road and then a huge festival in the square we had to drive through - what a fun experience!

Review 88:The location was great, right in old town. The staff went out of their way to make our stay great, with helpful ideas of what to see and how to get there.

Review 89:The location was perfect for exploring Salzburg, both old city and the newer areas. Since others had commented on the difficulties of getting into the old city and past the bollards, we programmed our GPS with a location on the road outside the old city and the followed the instructions provided by the hotel. The staff were very helpful in ensuring we got to see the best of the city.

Review 90:I like everything and would like to stay there again next time!

Review 91:The rooms are air conditioned. Bathrooms and rooms are clean. Location is excellent, close to shops and restaurants, and close to Mirabelle Gardens. The hotel staff are friendly and nice and very helpful.

Review 92:The location is excellent for the traveller who wishes to be near historical and music focused site. The staff was very service focused and the breakfast offered a wide variety of choices for every taste. Room 509 has a view of the picturesque Festung, or fort, over the rooftops.

Review 93:The wifi required you to type in your room number and password every time you used the internet, even if it only sat idle for a couple minutes.

Review 94:Everything. We didn't want to stay in a big chain hotel, so we wanted to find something with a little more charm. The location was close to all of the things we wanted to see. The staff was more than helpful. The breakfast was great. The room was so comfortable. And all of this was at a very good price. If we come back to Salzburg I will definitely stay here again.

Review 95:Window led to a very small and rather dark courtyard. Arrogant staff at reception: a younger gentleman at arrival, an elder one at departure.

Review 96:Excellent location. Clean and tidy room of a very good standard.Quiet. Breakfast very good, well presented. Very friendly staff in the breakfast-room.

Review 97:Just a note if you are driving to the hotel, I suggest you have a good understanding of how to enter the drop off your bags and then to get to the car park.

Review 98:Great room, very good staff, central / great location

Review 99:Getting to the hotel by car was a nightmare. Then having to find the car park was difficult and far.

Review 100:Central position in the old town but considering the access and parking would much preferred to stay outside the old town centre.

Review 101:Excellent central location; helpful front desk; very nice room; breakfast good; dinner at restaurant also very good. Sorry we couldn't stay longer! Definitely would stay here again.

Review 102:Sorry but I don' t like the tipping culture when it comes to food - leave it America where it belongs! Wifi coverage wasn't great.

Review 103:The hotel and room furniture and facilities were superb. It was the best value for money we have stayed in for some time. The staff were very good and helpful. Breakfast was excellent with good fresh food and lots of variety. The hotel is ideally located in the old town. We loved the whole experience.

Review 104:Hotel Elefant is centrally located, at a walking distance from almost all the city landmarks. It is pricey, but that's probably true for most hotels in Salzburg.

Review 105:Nothing but hated to leave. Only negative in this section of city was ongoing construction on Getreidegasse .

Review 106:The location and service were spectacular. Breakfast room food excellent and staff exceptional.

Review 107:did not like having to self park when it was so difficult to find parking garage. Did not like rooms. Not very impressed with this hotel. would not go back

Review 108:location was great for everything except dropping off luggage..

Review 109:Horrible Wifi! Room was on 4th floor and I cannot connect in the room.Connection in the 4th floor hall fails in seconds.

Review 110:Theme of the hotel and the restaurant was well designed.

Review 111:We stayed here for 4 days. The first day we booked independently ofBooking.com and were given a room without a/C. When we complained, hotel staff showed us our confirmation (which was in English) with thefootnote (in german) that the room was without a/C. Very deceptive. The next 3 nights we had a room with a/c, but the room was tiny andWifi was spotty, forcing us to use cellular data. Breakfast over 4 dayswas mediocre. Staff did not refill the buffet table regularly, soselection of food was limited. Also, staff failed to clear tables afterguests had finished, leaving the breakfast room unsightly. All in all,the worst hotel we stayed in over our 4 weeks in Austria. No idea how Itis rated so highly. It seems hotel staff and management have stoppedtrying. Would not stay here again.

Review 112:Location in old town is good.

Review 113:Make sure you call first and park in their recommended car park. We had to drive through crowds of people and streets under repair to reach the hotel - not fun.

Review 114:Loved the location of this hotel right in the heart of the shopping precinct of the old town, and convenient to attractions. The restaurant food is wonderful, especially the dessert specialty - nockerl. Fabulous! Staff were very helpful and welcoming.

Review 115:Not one bad thing to say about this hotel - would never hesitate to stay here again, or to recommend to my friends.

Review 116:From the moment we walked in, this was a most pleasant experience! Location is fantastic, staff was very friendly and always helpful. The room was beautiful and comfortable and food in the restaurant was some of the best we had in Austria!

Review 117:Best location--and reasonably priced! Lovely facilities, very nice restaurant, great breakfast! Loved the wait staff! Some desk not too knowledgeable about shops and restaurants being open or closed. Would definitely go there again!

Review 118:The shower was the smallest I had on my trip, but it was manageable.

Review 119:Right in the center of old town Salzburg attractions. Couldn't ask for a better location. Staff was friendly and check in/out was easy. Left before breakfast so have no opinion on that. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 120:This hotel is just perfect. Great location, lovely comfortable room, amazing friendly staff (big thanks for helping us unlock the suitcase). Wish we stayed longer.

Review 121:The bed was a bit soft - but I'm being picky here.

Review 122:The location was great, since we only had one day to visit. We were able to walk to everything. The staff was friendly and helped us with all requests - they even provided us with a converter to we could charge our cell phones.

Review 123:Staff is very helpful and nice, Location in the historic part is excellent , rooms are clean ,modern and spacious, breakfast and restaurant is great!

Review 124:Some of the staff weren't very friendly. Wifi was intermittent in the room, fine everywhere else.

Review 125:Location-amazing. Breakfast- plentiful. Room-cosy and clean.

The Fine Print
