Reviews for Nanzanso
Review 1:No wi-fi in the room. Just in the lobby. Though, this is traditional ryokan so I didn't mind that much.
Review 2:Very friendly staff and the room was very spacious with beautiful view to a garden.
Review 3:The manager/owner went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. He was so friendly and told us about the history of the building. For us, Nanzanso wasn't about just accomodation, it was an experience like no other. Traditional Japanese ryokans with such culture and history. It felt like we were in ancient japan.
Review 4:not as "remote" as you'd think, as its part of a small town. but once inside you're inside, you don't notice anything.
Review 5:Staff were welcoming, very relaxing building, hot springs were nice, and the room was cozy.
Review 6:I wasn't expected anything special, but need to say it is incredibly SPECIAL place! We are so satisfied with this ryokan. After spending 4 nights in 9 m² room for 2 people in Tokyo, it was such a relief to get to such a spacious room :) At first, I wasn't very keen on shared bathroom, but come on, it's Japan, it's part of their culture :) It was definitely worth to break myself and try it :) Nothing to complain about! We only regret we haven't stayed there longer :( Best place of our trip through Japan :) Greeting from Poland for a very friendly, smiley staff! :)
Review 7:No dinner provided by the ryokan. Although the property was as impeccably clean as you would expect of an inn in Japan, the area is buggy - mosquitos attack as soon as a window is opened, and some big spiders - they didnt bother me, but if you dont like spiders be mentally prepared, you might see some.
Review 8:Crazy maze of rooms on the side of a hill, this historical ryokan is worth a visit. The area is agricultural with a few low elevation forested hills nearby for hiking. I was lucky to visit as the persimmons were ripening - Yum! Breakfast is inexpensive, self serve Japanese style meal. The hot spring baths were fantastic, with at least one open at any given time. Lots of dining options nearby. I especially liked the sakana-ya, fish market, nearby - excellent quality sushi for on 1280Yen - made a great dinner!
Review 9:poor service nearly no service at all. outdoor onsen closed reason is weather too cold...
Review 10:I liked everything about the place. It looked and felt amazing and the hot springs were so relaxing!
Review 11:Bath hours are somewhat inconvenient for larger onsens
Review 12:Great rustic feeling
Review 13:Just that its a bit far from the train station (need to take a bus, several stops).
Review 14:I stayed in a single room on the ground floor close to the fish pond, the room was very spacious and the view of the pond and the hills is excellent. Good to have a spa opened for 24 hours. Nice. Value for money.
Review 15:This is an 'onsen' or hot spring hotel. Be aware that the showers are in the shared Japanese onsen rather than in your room. This is totally normal in onsen hotels. If you have tattoos, entering the onsen if you have tattoos can be a problem as many Japanese find them offensive. However if there is no one else in there, it's not a problem to just go in and use the facilities.
Review 16:incredibly beautiful traditional Japanese hotel with lovely onsen/japanese baths
Review 17:Would have preferred our own shower, but I realise that is not the Japanese way. Other reviews have mentioned free breakfast, though this was not available during our stay.
Review 18:The highlight was definitely the traditional wooden property and gardens - absolutely stunning! Large room, amazing views, comfortable bedding, free parking and friendly staff who spoke English.
Review 19:Room, bathroom, and lobby were nice, but the rest of the grounds were not very well kept.
Review 20:The staff was very kind and the price was right. The garden view in the morning is particularly beautiful and both onsens were nice. The room and bathroom were also very comfortable and clean.
Review 21:We had a problem with ants in our room. The staff spoke only Japanese. The only bath and shower facilities were the public onsens which is fine but I was put off by the bad behaviour of other guests in the shower area.
Review 22:The building itself was stunning. Built in the early 1800s as a onsen retreat for the wealthy, it has been updated over the years. Now, it is very cozy, quirky and well decorated. The gardens are just beautiful.
Review 23:Room rate is a bit too expensive.
Review 24:The building, an old traditional style house, is excellent! It's so beautiful design in detail and good space with nice bath and garden.
Review 25:no english instructions
Review 26:room size very comfortable
Review 27:The main attraction (the hot spring) was out of order, if we would haveknown, we would not have gone, no compensation offered.
Review 28:Huge Room
Review 29:Location, friendly staff, free breakfast, great views, o-furo, large room
