Reviews for Rainforest Hideaway

Review 1:The rainforest trails. The sculptures along the trails. The sense of being right in the rainforest. The wonderful selection of fruits for breakfast. EVERYTHING!

Review 2:the hosts were fantastic. The quirkiness of the accommodation and gardens surrounding were very inviting with so many personal touches relating to the owners.

Review 3:We didn't like the fact that we had only booked two nights!

Review 4:What a wonderful experience - bathroom open to the rainforest itself, no telecommunication access disturbing us (unless in an emergency), a cornucopia of exotic fruits for breakfast, a self made sculpture walk.

Review 5:We liked the lovely bungalov with the very special bathroom very much. Once in a lifetime a real djungle toilet and shower! Nice people, very good fruit breakfast.

Review 6:A unique hideaway built with obvious love in the rainforest from local materials. A totally relaxing feel ( with on site thai massage available!) peaceful surrounds, walks through the forest with sculptures and s great brekkie. With only 2 guest rooms it's perfect.

Review 7:Just do yourself a favour and go there, perfect accommodation surrounding World Heritage listed rainforest. Amazing sculptures from Rob the Owner you are over the moon !! immerse yourself in the rainforest and enjoy a good glass of wine it's a perfect !! We will be back !

Review 8:Not a bad experience, just intermittent wifi. But I liked no TV or phone.

Review 9:Isolation, cassowary, privacy, the rainforest experience. We had an outside bathroom which was amazing.

Review 10:Just read the web site to see if it suits your expectations..

Review 11:Having a glass of wine in the evening over looking the pond while listening to the frog chorus. Plus watching the passing Cassowaries on the property.

Review 12:Would have liked a cabin

Review 13:Great in the midst of the rainforest. Saw fireflies, snake, birds and bats. Quirky place to stay to take in and enjoy the thick, lush rainforest fauna and flora.

Review 14:great to retire/ wake up to the sounds of the rain forest.. couldn't be more natural enjoyed the privacy & the fact there were only 3 cabins with their own space. Breakfast with the Cassowaries was tremendous. Good hosts....

Review 15:Totally original, quirky and if you love nature a must visit location. The buildings have all been built by the owner Rob over 20 years. The minimal amount of rain forest that was cleared for the buildings seems to have crept right back up to the walls. The sounds of the jungle are constant and loud. Electricity is provided by solar power and a generator. The rooms therefore have no air conditioning and it is hot and humid. Rob is clearly multi-talented and his original carvings and statues are everywhere, (including local restaurants). I think Rob said the plot was 5 acres in size but both mornings I went for a walk on his maze of trails I got lost (temporarily). This is not a place to go if you are looking for comfort and/or are nervous of insects and reptiles but if you want an amazing rain forest experience this is the best. I would definitely visit again. The complimentary breakfast was ample and included many exotic fruits I have never seen or heard of before.

Review 16:The B&B is a bit isolated and it's a bit too far to walk to town or to the beach

Review 17:Grounds, beautiful construction and decorations, jungle trails and soaking pools in your own private stream. Breakfast included many unusual and delicious tropical fruits.

Review 18:Nil.

Review 19:Beautiful natural setting, decoration and unique hand-made timber furniture. Sculptures trail in the rainforest. Home-made yogurt with tropical fruits for breakfast.

Review 20:remember: you're in the jungle, hence there's going to be a lot of animals around making nightly noises. This can't be blamed on the hotel, but kept us from sleeping still (frog concert)

Review 21:place is marvellous, in the middle of the rainforest, great rooms, walkingpaths in property

Review 22:We loved this place! Rob is so friendly and a spectacular artist. It's close to all the activities and such a lovely little hideaway. We had the room in the picture and the open air bathroom to the rainforest was fantastic. We did the sculpture walk and just relaxed in the scenery. You do need to like being in nature though so you can't let birds, frogs or bugs get you down! Breakfast was so good. Fresh bread and an array of exotic fruits with great conversation from our host.

Review 23:Wow, what an amazing place to stay - hidden in the rainforest, this hotel was a lovely little gem to spend the night. The staff were LOVELY and really made us feel at home - wonderful!

Review 24:Nothing.

Review 25:Absolutely loved this place for an authentic rainforest experience - we swapped our room booking for the tree house out the back - so private and felt like we were in the jungle! Loved every minute of our stay - tried to extend a night but Rob was fully booked.

Review 26:we really loved the open air bathroom in the middle of the rainforest, so private yet in the open! we really felt at home there with Robert's kindness and chats. If you happen to pass there during good weather be sure to play a round of hand crafted mini golf hidden in the rainforest!

Review 27:Not much really. Our room was next to common area and a bit small

Review 28:Great jungle setting. Friendly owners / managers. Easter Island theme of grounds. Fly screens on windows. Availability of wifi in an area without phone reception.

Review 29:Having to leave this beautiful property.

Review 30:We loved the tranquility of the rainforest and the sculpture trails Rob has put so much work into. We had only just arrived for our stay when two cassowary's visited and it was a bonus to see them up close. Our stay at Rainforest Hideaway was the absolute highlight of our far North Queensland holiday.

Review 31:Sadly no Cassowary the 2 nights/ mornings we were there but they are wild and free to roam not in captivity so no complaint really.

Review 32:Wonderful location in the middle of the rainforest where Rob has created an amazing hideaway. True to its name this unique home is a real oasis of calm where we were welcome to relax and just soak in the sights and sounds of the jungle. Good base for wonderful walks and beach trips yet good restaurants and other activities available nearby too.

Review 33:The vibe of the hosts didn't seem too welcoming. Also, poor sleep due to noisy wildlife with poor noise insulation to room.

Review 34:The owner built everything, including the numerous garden statues, and is currently building a mini-golf course.

Review 35:No dislikes.

Review 36:Loved staying right in the rainforest, the peace, the native animals (including cassowaries!). Host was gerat and breakfasts were to die for.

Review 37:Nothing .

Review 38:Brilliant location in centre of rainforest. . Peaceful , arty , natural , picturesque . Would absolutely recommend . Lovely , health breakfast with delicious fruits and home made yogurt . Fabulous sculptures ,gorgeous setting. Absolutely loved it . A must .

Review 39:The solar power limited electricity use, meaning no room fridge orcoffee making facilities.

Review 40:The name Rainforest Hideaway says it all. The unique forest trails,Rob's sculptures, the 'back-to-nature' outdoor shower, thedelightful Rooney and her fnq fruit breakfasts, and the Cassowary visits

Review 41:Rob and Aruni were fabulous hosts! All the sculptures. Beautiful grounds. Being sung to sleep by frogs! The breakfast fruit platter.Yum! Sooo quiet. The cassowary that visits. The quirkiness of the place.

Review 42:Unique! You have to see it.

Review 43:Secluded, boutique hotel in Cape Trib. Lovely sunlight bathroom, very friendly hosts!

Review 47:Cassowary with 4 kids everything day. Fantastic breakfast frugt. Nice people.

Review 49:That we didn't have at least 3 nights there!!

Review 50:Great hosts and location, the walks and sculptures are amazing

Review 51:Very small, no hanging space, thought there was a pool but could be my mistake

Review 52:Quiet location, close to the cape, interesting cement sculpture garden

Review 53:none.

Review 54:The rainforest noises. quirkiness and the location. Meeting cassowary while having a delicious tropical breakfast.

Review 55:Would've loved to stay longer and missed the cassowries... Next time maybe.

Review 56:Stayed in the little hut with the open bathroom. Just loooooved it.

Review 57:Internet signal was weak but it was expected and did not matter too much in this environment.

Review 58:Unique and amazing location and decoration

Review 59:Loved everything

Review 60:Absolutely nothing!

Review 61:We had the cabin with outside plumbing...at first a shock..later An experience all should try....!

Review 67:The location, sculptures and breakfast, basically everything was amazing. Highly recommended. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 68:Sound of the rain forest at night Breakfast with Rob and the birds

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:The beautiful surroundings, the friendliness of our host and the spectacular barrier reef.

Review 71:A lovely quiet spot for doing very little, sitting on the deck and watching wild life and the rainforest (including visiting cassowary).

Review 72:not a thing

Review 73:Friendly owners, Wonderful location in the forest.

Review 74:Leaving

Review 75:Wonderful experience, location and, tropical fruit breakfast!

Review 76:This was simply an amazing experience. The Rainforest Hideaway is obviously a labor of love by of the owner Rob Lapaer. It's unique, and our stay there was the highlight of a wonderful trip to the north of Queensland. Highly recommended.

Review 77:Sloppy surroundings when you arrive (old bus sitting in the garden, bags of cement...). The motivation of the owner seems a bit down. Too basic for the price.

Review 78:Beautiful location in the middle of the rainforest. Our room had a unique outdoor bathroom. The refreshing dip in the river.

Review 79:A native of Holland, Rob Lapaer fell in love with the remote, naturalistic beauty of the Australian rain forest. He decided to stay, and bought five acres of wilderness near the Daintree National Park in 1993.Over the years he designed and built his own residence with a large rear deck. Then he redesigned the main house to add a bar and an adjoining guest suite to serve as a B&B. Later, a separate guest suite was built across the parking lot. Then came the pièce de résistance. Rob built a large guest suite with bathroom facilities on the ground floor, main bedroom/living area above with cooking facilities, and a loft for a third occupant. The Tree House overlooks the river a fair distance from the main buildings. In between are pathways where pools of water with carved stone statues, large figurines singly and in groups, unique benches and covered tables, and even picturesque stairways and bridges await the guest out for a calming stroll through the dense rain forest. Make sure you take the time to explore the pathways, and keep your eyes open for statuary both large and small. The continental breakfast features a dazzling array of colorful and exotic fruits, some of them grown on the premises. Part of the breakfast entertainment is the semi-tame brightly colored local turkey, and the occasional visit of the local Cassowary family, a smaller, more colorful version of the Emu.Today, the hidden retreat sits one kilometer from the main road through the Daintree National Park. Yet it is as much a part of the rainforest as possible while still providing the comforts of a B&B. All of the rooms are open to the trees and wildlife that surrounds them. You will be serenaded by a few different species of frogs at night, and during the day will see a variety of larger creatures, mostly birds, including the exotic Cassowary, a slightly smaller, more beautiful type of Emu.Just up the road is an equally intriguing restaurant, Whet.

Review 80:Did not like listening to the frogs all night long 4 nights in a row bit to much for the price

Review 81:Surroundings were very impressive good job done by owner

Review 82:Location as described in rain forest. Owner very helpful and informative ,delicious breakfasts.Sculptures and forest trail amazing Just fabulous

Review 83:I felt like I was lying in a tree house in Paradise. Waking to thetropical birds and frogs each morning was a treat. Clean, comfortable, and a artist's hand at work every where you turned, from thefurnishings to the decor to the sculpture walk. Rob was a greathost...helpful in booking our reef trip and giving us insights into thelocal happenings/sights around "town." Breakfast was adelicious assortment of local fruits, good bread with jams, peanutbutter or vegemite, yogurt, cereals and coffee. To settle in and get thefull feel of The Hideaway and the rainforest, get here before sundown, and stay for 2 nights!! Thank you, Rob, Junie and Kirsten. This wastruly a high point in our trip to Australia.

Review 84:The owner is a sculptor and he has beautifully and imaginatively placed his works on trails he has developed through the rainforest on his property. We saw a family of cassowaries on one of the trails. Quite magical.

Review 85:A bit of a meagre breakfast, weak internet connection in the guest room

Review 86:The open air bathroom (feels like Adam and Eve in the jungle), the tranquility at night, the walking trails in the accommodation

Review 87:Nothing at all to dislike

Review 88:We had such a great time and were taken care of by wonderful hosts. Probably one of the most relaxing stays we have ever had. Will be back!

Review 89:location was idyllic! Owner Rob was welcoming and helpful. The open air bathroom was a surprise and may not be for everyone, though we saw it as quirky and a different experience

Review 90:We loved this rainforest hideaway. The outside bathroom was a highlight and our cabin was basic but clean and comfortable. The rain forest noises at night lulled us off to sleep. Breakfast was ample with choices of different tropical fruits on offer as well as the usual cereals, toast etc. Close to the beach, couple of excellent restaurants. Not for everyone but definitely for those with a bit of adventure about them.

Review 91:I don't normally write reviews, but I felt I needed to tell othershow good this place was. I also don't normally stay atB&B's, but this is not like any normal B&B. It didn'tfeel like a B&B at all.Things I liked the best- * Outdoor private bathroom over looking the rainforest. * The Sculpture trails thru the rainforest was amazingly beautiful. * Room was very private & all handbuilt from the native rainforest timbers. * Breakfast allowed us to try a number of local exotic fruits I have never tasted before, & I now have a new faviourate fruit. * The owners were great fun to have a chat and drink with & had lots of information about the area. * The price was about half what we were going to pay to stay in a EcoResort & this place was way more Eco & part of the rainforest than any resort we looked at. I would never normally stay at a B&B, because we like our privacy, but this never felt like a B&B. Our room was private & secluded. We only seemed to see the owners when we needed them & when we wanted a drink and a chat they were the best of hosts. To tell the truth initally my wife was very concerned about having an outdoor bathroom, but to me this was a great feature. But by the end of the stay even my wife admitted that it was one of the most enjoyable features. Talk about feeling at one with nature !!

Review 92:Wonderful spot in the rainforest, great host.

Review 93:The rainforest in the backyard. Plus the cassowaries!!

Review 94:Not much really

Review 95:We really loved the artistic aesthetic. It was abeautiful, quiet location, good breakfast.

Review 100:Nothing...

Review 101:What an amazing place... Go yourself and make your own memories... Magical

Review 102:Everything.

Review 103:nothing

Review 104:unique experience very few rooms nature

Review 105:the cabin away from the main living area, outdoor shower and toilet. The sounds of nature all around. Sandstone sculptures around the gardens

Review 106:Rob was very welcoming and extremely laid back, which is understandable when you see the surrounds. Loved the dunny in the forest.

Review 107:Ensuite next to public area

Review 108:Deep in rainforest with interesting sculptures scattered along paths to creek

Review 109:Beautiful rainforest retreat in the middle of nowhere. Lovely host. Fantastic and creative rooms with outdoor bath. Nice sculpture garden trail.
