Reviews for Palazzo Gattini Luxury Hotel
Review 1:It is not easy to find the hotel by car. I had to park in a public parking and then walked about 300 meters to the hotel.
Review 2:Staff were helpful, breakfast was basic but tasty, probably the biggest room and bathroom facilities I have experienced in the 20 years of travel
Review 3:The terrace bar was closed, the terrace restaurant is no longer available. Waiting for my car to arrive from the garage took 70 minutes. The main restaurant was disappointing.
Review 4:Nearly everything
Review 5:Hard to find by car, but the instructons given on the phone when we were lost, were excellent and we found the place OK.
Review 6:Beautiful room, great bed and bathroom. Right in the centre of the city. Valet parking of the car for 20 Euro was a good choice :)
Review 7:The cathedral opposite is undergoing major renovations. View spoilt by lots of scaffolding and noisy builders starting work at 7.300am
Review 8:Central location, good sized room
Review 9:Nothing to dislike, except our stay wasn't long enough!
Review 10:Staff very welcoming, and architecture and attention to detail in the Palazzo fantastico. Parking and valet service was faultless. Breakfast is superb, and our room was lovely. We had a special deal that made it excellent value
Review 11:You could not control the heating from the room. When we arrived, the room was too cool and we asked for the heating to be turned up. It still was not warm enough a few hours later but we did not want to ask for an adjustment as the room would then be too warm to sleep over night. Do not expect to be charged extra to use hotel pool. Room booked was supposed to have sofa or easy chairs but had hard chairs only, so ended up just using the bed.
Review 12:Breakfast was very good. We were offered the local speciality of local bread toasted with very fresh ricotta spread on top and drizzled with orange blossom honey.
Review 13:no real room service available no lounge for relaxing and having a light lunch creating a sense of hospitality and intimacy in the hotel.
Review 14:the facilities. Excellent restoration work.
Review 15:No negatives.
Review 16:The entire staff make it their business to help turn your stay into the best possible experience. The best breakfast buffet among all the hotels we stayed in Basilicata.
Review 17:It's not an exceptionnal hotel: while everything is very nice, there's nothing stunning either in the design of the room (a bit artificial) or in the view (our room had basically no view, and no light either). A very good hotel lacking some personnality, I did regret not chosing to stay in a typical "sassi"
Review 18:Nice design, nice terrace, very good breakfast, very helpful staff, great location right in the middle of the city center, nice jaccuzi downstairs (but do not choose to stay here for the jaccuzi, it's just a nice plus but no reason to stay there more than 5 min)
Review 19:Some complementary time in the spa would have been nice, but the price was very reasonable, so I really can't complain.
Review 20:Everything! Friendly, helpful, English-speaking staff. Room with private pool. Perfect location- accessible by car but by the sassi. Concierge arranged private tour of Matera by an expert, extremely knowledgeable guide - Prof. Michele Zasa - who spoke about the history, archeology, culture and contemporary life of Matera while walking us through the maze of sassi paths.
Review 21:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 22:Everything! Everyone at this Hotel, from the Front Desk to the Breakfast Server were so warm, accommodating and extremely helpful. Every request was met with politeness and extreme enthusiasm. First rate in every way.
Review 23:Absolutely nothing
Review 24:Everything to like and nothing to dislike. Location was perfect, breakfast was quality plus, my omelette was cooked for me just the way I like it. Pina that worked on breakfasts was a delight in herself. I would stay no-where else while in Matera
Review 25:Beautiful rooms, excellent breakfast, right next to the Duomo, excellent views, serene spa, and staff who went the extra mile. This hotel could not be any better.
Review 26:Nothing to dislike.
Review 27:I liked everything about this splendid old palazzo that has been restored well. Teresa welcomed us like family and Pina served us breakfast with a smile that made our day. The location to see the sassi is just perfect.
Review 28:Everything! 5 star excellence..
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:Convenient location at old town
Review 31:They need a good bar, also the hotel restaurant was unavailabe both nights of our stay.
Review 32:Our suite. Position in the town.
Review 33:Perfect location and overall experience!
Review 34:There was a party down stairs and we could hear a bit of the noise.
Review 35:We got upgrade to suite. The view magnificent and the tub is huge
Review 36:the breakfast can be better , the staff is excellent , but the food can be best for 5 start hotel.
Review 37:Location
Review 38:Excellent comfort and great service
Review 39:From the time we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful especially Teresa we will go back.
Review 40:The hotel is luxurious and perfectly placed for visiting the Sassi. The staff were very helpful and most pleasant.
Review 41:Everything, starting with freshly squeezed orange juice
Review 42:We were not able to visit the spa as we had not been told we needed to make reservations. Room was too hot, as was the rest of the hotel. I asked for the air con to be made cooler but it did not happen, and room was never cooler than 25 degrees.
Review 43:Beautiful hotel with great rooms, fantastic bed and linens
Review 44:We loved the breakfast. The eggs were well prepared. We were upgraded to a suite which was excellent. Enjoyed our stay immensely. Did not want to leave. Ann, Edmonton, AB. Canada
Review 45:The restaurant and bar lacked warmth and some of the interior decorations were a bit too precious.
Review 46:A lovely hotel with elegant rooms and great views on one side of the old city of Matera and its cave dwellings.
Review 47:The only down side was that the hotel spa is not included in the room rate.
Review 48:We stayed in this lovely Palazzo in November. The building has been restored and renovated to perfection. We were given a fantastic suite - we could not ask for anything more. The hotel location is just perfect to explore Matera. The breakfast was typical Italian - simple and delicious. We will definitely return to Palazzo Gattini.
Review 49:No info in the room what so ever about the hotel.Parking is advertised as on site,it is not . Car was parked other side of town in public car park.
Review 50:We're upgraded to a huge suite. Staff were excellent. The bed and pillows were very comfy.
Review 51:We wish to switch on the music in the room, but it was not possible, while there was a dynamic in the bathroom.
Review 52:Nice comfortable and stylish hotel in the very center. Beautiful view from the roof. Very calm. Lounge music in all public spaces. Very relaxing.
Review 53:Heating was controlled from reception so it was not possible to make fine adjustments. Breakfast service quite slow as the kitchen seemed to be far away from the breakfast room. However the young lady in charge of it was most charmingly helpful.
Review 54:Lovely position next to cathedral. Luxurious room. Delightful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Review 55:I travelled with our 22 mo. old baby and noticed that they did not have a baby chair in the breakfast room nor in the Don Matteo restaurant which is part of the hotel. Other than this, the food was great.
Review 56:The hotel is centrally located right the entry of the Sassi. The room was very comfortable and the cleaning services great. The breakfast was also nice and balanced. What I liked best was the SPA services and the location of the hotel.
Review 57:We had a room that was very cold and the hotel is on one temp. and our room was on a wing that was next to the patio and the wind was very cold which made the room very cold.We called the desk and they said they would check but we never heard from them. it was 19deg. C good we didnt mind sleeping in the cold.
Review 58:the room was very nice with very nice bed and linens. room was designed nicely and the Spa was very nice.
Review 59:The only thing missing was a few drawers in the room
Review 60:We got upgraded to the suite with the pool. Even though not warm enoughto use we had the most amazing weekend. From the room to the food to thespa fantastic. Thankyou so much.
Review 61:Hotel staff interrupted my massage, by phone and in person, and spoiltthe relaxed ambience. The air conditioning was so noisy I had to askthem to turn it off as I could not sleep and then I was too hot. Parkingis charged at 20euros per night, but cars are parked in the square, which I was told was not allowed.
Review 62:An excellent position on top of the hill, next to the cathedral, withviews to front and rear of hotel. A privately owned palace until fouryears ago, the architecture and rooms are amazing! Although an expensivehotel for the area, it was well worth it and deals are available fromtime to time.
Review 63:The rooms are stunning and the location amazing. Probably one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in, mostly because of the room design but also because even though it is in a grand old building there is still a lot of charm, quirkiness and attention to detail
Review 64:. There were some issues which I feel are worth noting, particularly for a hotel of this stature. Our arrival in Lecce today and our hotel here emphasize some deficiencies at the Palazzo. Firstly, even with a GPS we could not get to the hotel. We had to park the car. One stayed in the car and the other, who speaks Italian asked walking directions and found the hotel. They sent someone to lead my partner to the hotel. We talked to another couple who had the same problem. Secondly, this is a “spa hotel”. Our bathroom was equipped with a “Jacuzzi” type bathtub. I did not fuction. This feature would have been wonderful if it worked after hiking the steep pathways of the Sassi. Thirdly, the reception staff could have been more helpful. Upon a Friday afternoon arrival we opted to dine in the hotels fabulous restaurant, but asked for a reservation to be made at another restaurant for Sautrday evening, one which friends raved about from an earlier visit to Matera. We did not learn that the restaurant was closed, permanently until one hour before our planned reservation time on Saturday night. The hotel did use their influence to get us a table at a great restaurant after several uncomfortable phone calls. In general I found the front desk staff to be a bit stiff. Fourth. The lighting in the rooms was fabulously subtle. Great from a chic interior design point of view, but lacking in practicality. One cannot read in the rooms and one cannot see in the bathroom for cosmetic purposes.
Review 65:Entering the hotel is a step into grandeur. The Palazzo’s foyer is a high and long, barrel vaulted structure constructed from the local tufa, a limestone like rock endemic to the area. Your reception desk awaits you, a grand walk away. Very “Last Year at Marienbad”! The guests all talk sotto voce here. Is it intimidation? Make no mistake about it. This is one of the world finest luxury hotels. The public rooms, all polished off-white, beige-ish tufa are impressive. Our room (207) was perhaps the best, or certainly in the top five, of all the hotels we have stayed in. My superlative list of adjectives is not up to an adequate description. There are many photos available on websites. We are very glad that we chose the Palazzo Gattini for three nights to savor the atmosphere of this wonderful city.
Review 66:There was no inhouse information to explain the facilities they had, forexample there was a Spa but we didn't know anything about it until theday we were leaving. I suspect it is geared up for a purely Italianmarket, hardly any staff spoke English, there were no options of foodoutside of breakfast and dinner and it seemed very quiet. We didn't seeany other guest the entire time we were there and therefore it lacked abit of atmosphere.
Review 67:Great location, very glamourous and was reasonable value for money.
Review 68:Sometimes- the lack of staff. We asked for a drink from the bar and thegentleman from reception came to serve us
Review 69:There are two types of 5 star; staff everywhere and always asking ifthey can help/get you something and the other is barely no one visible. This hotel is the latter, you could believe that you are the only peoplethere ( in a good way). When I needed them to contact our car hirecompany, they did and they also took us to the train station after wehad checked out. We had an airport transfer on arrival from Bari whichwas excellent and the driver was on time, friendly and polite-agentleman. We spent time in the spa too, the massage pool is very good€30 for 15-20 mins. Our room was a Jnr suite; good size, bathroom-veryluxurious. Breakfast was plentiful even at the end of service. I wouldreccomend this hotel to anyone
Review 70:No free pool acces since it was part of the spa. Use of that pool had anextra charge of 15 euro. Guarded car park was charged 20 euros pernight. There are less expensive alternatives in town.
Review 71:Spaciousness of the room and the central location but quiet location.
Review 72:Unfortunately, we had some problems with the air conditioning in the first room we were given - it really didn't make the room cool enough and when it was turned up (by reception) it became very noisey! However, they changed us to an up-graded suite for the next 2 nights and this room, although was absolutely beautiful, - still the air conditioning didn't really make the room cool enough! All things taken into consideration, they obviously have some technical problems and because of these issues we feel that this hotel does not represent good value for money.
Review 73:It is a beautiful building and has been restored perfectly. It has a first class situation right between the two main parts of the old town. The rooms we used were very nice.
Review 74:it is just a little hard to get to by car, but that is not their fault
Review 75:The staff is amazing and the terrace is incredible
Review 76:would be better if the restaurant and the spa are connected to the hotel.
Review 77:the design in each room is unique and staff are very helpful.
Review 78:Use of spa was expensive and no one informed us of the cost before.
Review 79:Excellent location in central Matera and excellent service.
Review 80:A bit hard to find
Review 81:best breakfast ever. At our arrival we were very surprised to hear that we were offered an upgrade! very professional staff
Review 82:poor wifi, very expensive spa
Review 83:very beautiful hotel, nice staff, excellent location in the historic matera, great breakfast
Review 84:Difficult to get to.
Review 85:Beautiful design, comfort, bathroom, beds and linens, and the staff especially Teresa at the front desk.
Review 86:Not the easiest to find by car
Review 87:Staff location and ambiance
Review 88:the air condition was LOUSY !!!!!!!! the breakfast poor !
Review 89:location
Review 90:Poor breakfast for a 5 star hotel.
Review 91:Nice staff. Very good location and view from the hotel. OK value for money.
Review 92:Great interiors and decor
Review 93:A bit hard to find but fabulous rooms, staff and service. Every member of the staff bent over backwards to assist. A great experience!
