Reviews for Hotel Rocamar
Review 1:Staff were not always available- there was never anyone in reception and they were not forthcoming with information about getting around the island- we relied on trip advisor to work out how to hire golf carts, etc. There was little hot water and the shower was unreliable at best!!
Review 2:The location was wonderful; the views from the balcony were beautiful; the air con worked brilliantly. The pool was clean but freezing cold! The bed was lovely and comfy.
Review 3:They over charged me, my reservation was one price but they had a selfexchange rate so I paid more than my reservarion said. They didnt gaveme any recipt for my payment. At 11:50 am they came banging at mu door in a VERY way yelling that check out was at 12...
Review 4:The reception staff were at best efficient, and at worst unpleasant. We had a problem checking in that wasn't really their fault but the girl didn't seem to care about sorting it out. Worst of all, the man on reception at checkout would only let us store our bags there for 1 hour after checking out - their attitude was that "you've checked out, goodbye, it's not our problem". He said that there were lockers we could use at the ferry terminal, which did not turn out to be the case. They just wanted to get rid of us. Extensive building work was going on in the rooms next door, which was disruptive. Probably the worst thing about the hotel was the setup in the bathroom. It was a completely see-through glass cubicle in the corner of the room. There was an ugly plastic yellow curtain to try and cover you from view, but it wasn't totally effective and was very annoying to use. This is a crazy setup and is the main reason why I would not stay here again. This place has a lot of potential and could be lovely if the staff were more pleasant, things were made a bit easier for the client and if the crazy bathroom situation was sorted out.
Review 5:Nice balcony overlooking a very wild seascape. Hammock on balcony was nice. Location was convenient to everything - supermarket, beach, main street with restauarants and bars. Isla Mujeres has a really idyllic, sheltered North beach - go to the side that doesn't have the ferry coming in - great way to spend the day.
Review 6:Seethrough bathroom was a bit weird and the staff was not very service minded (because of the language maybe? They didn't speak much English)
Review 7:Convenient location - close to the beach, restaurants, moto rentals etc., comfy room and great ocean view
Review 8:It was a cute little room with a great view of the ocean. Close to the downtown Isla Mujeres area but not too close, wasn't noisy or overly busy but easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do.
Review 9:the pool. the cleanness. the room look worse than pictures. I booked "Ground floor". actually it was is -1 floor. I changed it by adding more money (12$ a day).
Review 10:the lobby and the balcony
Review 11:The bathroom & shower had a glass wall and door. For privacy, we had to use a disgusting old yellow curtain. A true mood-killer.
Review 12:The location was excellent. Very close to the port and with amazing sea-view
Review 13:The staff wasn't super helpful about where to go eat/visit. That would've been nice especially since we were only there 2 days/2nights
Review 14:the staff is not friendly at all, the pics of the room in booking are not the same as the room. only when you get there you understand you paid only for a lower room which is a different room! and when we asked for another room (same as the pictures in booking) we were asked to pay the difference. which was 12 USD per night.
Review 15:Staff was terrible to deal with, onsite construction, no water pressure, almost no hot water, no real amentities to speak of
Review 16:Clean room, good location to town, gorgeous sunrise, cold AC in rooms
Review 17:Beds were futons. Not the best but we were so tired at the end of day it didn't matter.
Review 18:Location! Right down the street from the ferry!! Great pool and view!!
Review 19:Maintenance work stopped us from enjoying the pool area on a couple of days . Curtain system in the bathroom was annoying!
Review 20:Quiet but central location. Friendly staff , short walking distance to fab beaches , local restaurants, great sea view and a constant sea breeze!
Review 21:The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, check in wasnt welcoming at all. Wifi only worked in Reception. There was construction work going on, very loud and all the dust and dirt was in the pool.
Review 22:The first room I reserved had a weird smell and it was like staying in a basement. I don;t recommend reserving the ground floor. Also, I noticed the reservation wouldn't count all the guest I went back and added the person left out and was still charged an extra fee because it didn't count the person.
Review 23:The staff was friendly and even made a few calls for me when we wanted to have food delivered.
Review 24:Hotel itself is very poor, no facilities, no food, no drink, dirty pool plus the hotel stuff is very rude and not trustable, we were worried to leave our luggages after we check out, had to take it with us.
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:The shower curtain in the bathroom did not work well and let in alot of light from the hallway
Review 27:Everyone was very nice and helpful! Location was excellent!
Review 28:Location is great and the hotel is pretty and with a familiar ambiance. Our room had a terrace with a hammock and view to the see. Great value for the money
Review 29:Intermittent WIFI, lack of creamer for coffee - needs a coffee station on each level.
Review 30:The wall of window on top of the sea, the bed, the walkable location, the quiet and relaxing room.
Review 31:water took a very long time to get warm. hotel provided shampoo but not conditioner no hair dryer in room
Review 32:location- walking distance to everything, quieter side of the island. pool housekeeping staff outstanding view from balcony right on the malecon - great for morning walks or joggers
Review 33:No dresser, and not really much area to put things away in the room. Low water pressure (sometimes) in the shower. First day there was construction going on downstairs, in a soon to be open separate beauty salon, but quiet after that. Really no big "problems" with our room
Review 34:It was steps from downtown, the market and restaurants, yet was by the crashing ocean! Staff was friendly and available and helped us out when asked too. No Wi-Fi issues, good AC, small fridge, walk in shower, and awesome balcony with Hammock and ocean view! We've been to Isla quite a few times, and know the town lay-out pretty good, and this place had EASY access to the entire city!
Review 35:bathroom is a room of windows into the room. Curtains to pull in front of window, but not a good concept at all.
Review 36:views from the room, pool towels available (don't lose it though, it'll cost ya $25), water coolers on each floor, porch/patio with hammock, location good for heading into town, but quiet around hotel area.
Review 37:Room size very small for 4 people. Not on beach like photo dipicted Had to change our room because they put us in a room next door to a construction site and it was very noisy It was expensive for what we got
Review 38:Quite central to centro and main beach. View of ocean
Review 39:Poor wifi. Didnt really work from our room. Had to be reception area to use internet. A bit of a walk to playa norte. 10 to 15 mins walking.
Review 40:Good room size. Big toilet. Clean and tidy. Short walk to ferry terminal. Near comercial area.
Review 41:Our fridge didn't work, the see through bathroom was somewhat comical at times (on a romantic getaway) and they did not have soap or shampoos, so just bring your own. Otherwise, a wonderful find.
Review 42:Rocamar was a wonderful place to stay. Air conditioner was great. The staff were prompt, clean water was always available to drink, bed was comfy and the view was phenomenal. I would certainly go back purely for the view and location.
Review 43:The location was excellent. Close to ocean, great view, close to store, and plaza. Restaurants nearby as well. Staff were superb, right there ready to help if you needed them. The beach house was very comfy and made our stay at the Rocamar extra special with the added room for 4 adults with kitchen facilities when needed.
Review 44:no other service included like breakfast..etc.. cleaning staff decides when to clean my room...not me. a little bit over priced compares with the rest of the area.
Review 45:the view from the balcony, the location, a few steps from main street, cleanness calm
Review 46:Beds hard. Coffee made me sick, but it was my only drink that was NOT bottled water and, therefore, possibly not the fault of the hotel.
Review 47:Five minutes walk from ferry, grocery store, shopping streets, restaurants, and community center. Easy walk to beach. Secure room safe provided and exterior of hotel meticulously maintained.
Review 48:In terms of value for money, this hotel is hard to beat. it is located right on the north-east coast of the island, a 10 minutes walk from the playa norte. our room had an ocean view. the room war extremely clean, and very modern, with TV, A/C, safe. All it takes to make your beach vacations perfect.
Review 49:no hairdryer and just 5 mexican programs on tv, but youŕe not there for tv, right?
Review 50:All the rooms have ocean view from balcony where you also have hammock. Big rooms, good bed, small fridge, safe, towels, beach towels. Just hundred metres form ferry and 5 minutes walk from Playa Norte. Big supermarket near by (right behind church). Small swimming pool and quiet place. We were happy there.
Review 51:Our room was right in front of the common area with couches, and there was a group out there for a while, so it was a little noisy, but it wasn't that bad.
Review 52:Location (everything on the north end is walkable), beautiful view, good room size, nice bed, hammock on the balcony, pool. Also, It looks like a minor 60's explosion, in a good way. I wish we had stayed here longer, instead of going to Cancun. The glass-walled bathrooms aren't that bad, there's a mirrored sliding panel and a curtain, it's not like you're in an aquarium.
Review 53:The hotel looks like a hostel! Not for families or couple of their honeymoon. The room was very dirty and the stream I'm the shower was very very weak. WiFi didn't work in the room.
Review 54:Swimming pool was murky.
Review 55:Funky boutique style hotel. Cute. The balcony was awesome with a hammock. You could throw a quarter into the ocean it is so close.
Review 56:No air conditioning,so boiling hot. Open stairs without railings, so too dangerous for children. View of sea marred by rusty old lamp posts. Having to wear wrist bands for security.
Review 57:Lovely 1960's futuristic ski-fi boutique style hotel. A lot of thought has gone in to the detail of the design.
Review 58:Unfortunately, the en-suite bathroom did not have walls but see through, sliding glass doors! Very odd! To remedy this oversight, tatty plastic yellow curtains have been placed. It looks as though it's not finished or a bathroom was added instead of a closet.
Review 59:Perfect location, clean hotel, good facilities.
Review 60:they change towels every time they clean room, it is not ecological
Review 61:Location on the see, big room, they provide water, cofe, microwave. Nice common area.
Review 62:The swimming pool was filthy. You could not swim in it. The staff were awful. We felt a real sense of hatred towards customers. We have travelled a lot and stayed in different standards of hotel, but this was our worst experience with staff, ever There were cockroaches in the bedroom. Avoid this place, there are many nice hotels nearby.
Review 63:No breakfast, a bit pricy
Review 64:Superb location facing the sea, hammock on the balcony, quiet and charming area, spacious room, comfortable bed, big door-windows, close to a tiny cute restaurant offering good food at reasonable prices (O' bravo loncheria)
Review 65:The staff's attitude and willingness to help.
Review 66:The view from the room
Review 67:Bad bleach smell in the two rooms I have tried. Staff is not easily available and not very professional.
Review 68:Great sea-view.
Review 69:great view nice place old fasion but practice decoration
Review 70:Le cadre, la decoration des chambres, la vue sur la mer, le confort des lits.
Review 71:Loved this hotel. Perfect location with perfect views of the ocean.
Review 72:Lack of hot water in shower and intermittent wifi
Review 73:Great location and friendly staff
Review 74:WiFi was spotty
Review 75:Location was convenient and ocean view of waves spectacular
Review 76:No real milk for morning coffee, only coffee mate
Review 77:I loved watching the waves pounding on the shore. Great balcony .
Review 78:WiFi did not work on lower level room
Review 79:the water pressure was very week, and the mattress way too soft and this is very bad for people with back problems
Review 80:Great value for the money
Review 81:Ocean view proximity to Playa Norte quiet location
Review 82:For us not remote enough.
Review 83:The location is close to the ferry. Close to restaurants and festivities.
Review 84:No TV. Antes in the room. Noisy air conditioning. Poor water stream in the shower. Wi-Fi issues.
Review 85:Close to guerrero street.
Review 86:Staff and price
Review 87:No wifi in room Smell was really bad No hot water Floors were dirty No hammocks
Review 88:Literally on the ocean
Review 89:Great location, beautiful views and very clean. Would recommend this hostel to anyone.
Review 90:Fantastic views & location. Comfortable bed, lovely bathroom.
Review 91:Open bathroom with no privacy
Review 92:Location Staff View
Review 93:The staff didnt make an effort to help too much
Review 94:Nice sized rooms, cute pool, good location, nice design, clean
Review 95:Furtherest from Playa Norte about 12min walk but not really a negative.
Review 96:Easy walk from the ferry. Air conditioning was great especially at night time. Quiet location. Laid back feel. Tea/coffee/water in foyer area and lounge/pool area readily available for guests.
Review 97:Wifi was a bit slow and spotty in the room.
Review 98:Beautiful view with an east facing balcony-perfect for watching the sunrise. Free coffee and water. Clean bathroom, comfortable bed, and excellent AC. 1 block from the strip with nice restaurants.
Review 99:No bar facilities or breakfast service available
Review 100:1st floor rooms overlooking the ocean. Very relaxing. Great location only 3 minute walk from the ferry. Golf cart rental available from reception. Very laid back atmosphere
Review 101:My best girlfriend and I took a few days to catch up and relax in isla mujeres. We couldn't have been happier with the hotel. Our room was fabulous! I believe we did get their best room. We had the largest balcony with a hot tub and hammock on the top floor right along the rocky coastline. When we were in our room we felt like we were on a ship bc all we could see was the amazing ocean and lovely sky. As I said I believe we did get one of their best rooms, but most of there rooms had the same amazing ocean view from their balconies. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. As long as you aren't looking for a room right on the beach (it's a short 10 minute walk) or over the top fancy, you should be very happy. It's close to everything you need. I would definitely stay there again.
Review 102:Rocamar is a nice place with amazing view to the ocean. The beach is in walking distance so is everything important on the island. The big terrace is a big plus with the amazing view. The rooms are very simple and clean.
Review 103:Low water pressure with that toilet & shower.... But we got by
Review 104:The quietness The sunrises of the balcony The pool The sound of the ocean all the time .... Fabulous
Review 105:We shared the room with another couple (good friends) but the bathroom torn sliding curtain was a bit difficult to make private each time we used the bath/shower.
Review 106:location pool comfortable beds view of the ocean accommodating staff hammock
Review 107:They use their own imaginary exchange rate on room prices of 14 pesos per 1 USD. I had a confirmed booking for 110 USD a night including taxes, but upon arrival the price had gone up to 116,50.
Review 108:The view from the upper floor sea front rooms was stellar.
Review 109:Be aware that the bathroom has glass walls! But there are plastic curtains you can pull across to maintain your modesty!
Review 110:Very clean, beautifully modern rooms with the best asset of all: an unobstructed view the size of your entire wall of the turquoise ocean. Very secure (good locks on the doors and safes in the rooms). Great swimming pool, also overlooking the sea. Lovely little lounge area with facilities to make hot and cold drinks. Staff speak excellent English (great when our Spanish was so patchy!). More expensive than a lot of other hotels we'd stayed in in Mexico but well worth the treat!
Review 111:The only 3 slight downsides to this hotel were the beds (far too soft for our liking but obviously this may be ok for some) The silly plastic bathroom curtain which made what is a lovely room look quite tacky and the shower water pressure - which wasn't powerful enough. we stayed in room 19
Review 112:Just spent a few days on the Beautiful Island of Isla Mujeres to escape the madness of mainland Mexico. We hired a golf cart, snorkled, sunbathed and just explored :) The hotel is in a lovely location out the way and has beautiful views to match. The pool area is lovely and the rooms a good size with the hammock on the balcony a big bonus.
Review 113:Just be aware - only rooms are supplied - no restaurant etc. - and it faces the rocky seaward side of the island. And though 2 min walk from the shops, it is 15 min from the sandy beaches. But it was what I wanted.
Review 114:It's a very simple hotel, nice rooms over looking the sea. Low cost and good value for its money.
Review 115:Nothing -- for the money it was fine, but it's hardly upscale.
Review 116:It's a very short walk from the ferry, and perched right over the ocean, lovely views. It's also steps from the main strip of restaurants and bars and shops, couldn't be better located.
Review 117:Rooms are clean and the hotel location is good (10min walk to the best beaches). There is a safe in the room. No breakfast, but at least free coffee. All and all it is a good option at a fair price.
Review 118:TV in the rooms only get four channels. Not a big deal because we weren't in the room all day. The TV in the lounge has satellite.
Review 119:Great location. Just a short walk to downtown and the beautiful north beach. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were updated and clean. The hammock on the balcony overlooking the ocean was nice. Pay the extra for an ocean facing room, it's worth it. AC works well. We were in room 26 and we didn't have the clear wall open bathroom other reviews talk about. I have been to the island three times and this is the hotel I will book again when I come back.
Review 120:Go for the slightly more expensive rooms (above the ground floor), the view will be so worth it ! This is really a million dollar view ! The room is clean, bright and white, with a huge window facing the sea, and a great balcony with good chairs and a hammock. If you don't like the glass bathroom, ask for room 24 : we had a "normal" bathroom. The great North beach is only a couple of blocks away (easily done by foot), and you can also rent a golfcart directly from the reception. The water pressure in the shower is indeed not great, but it's not that bad (we had no trouble washing our hair).
Review 121:Strange guys at the front desk. I wanted to prolong my stay by day and they claimed the hotel was full. But booking showed free rooms. This was still not sufficent for them so I had to make the reservation via booking.com - funny. TV did not work. The design of the hotel is very simple.
Review 122:Fabulous location. A view on the ocean and couple of minutes from anywhere. A/C was in the room despite advertising the opposite. Pretty big room. Balkony with hammock. Free water, coffee and tea.
Review 123:liked everything
Review 124:The location was wonderful. The rooms all face the windy side of the island so no air is needed. Only a few minutes to the beach and so many places to eat. Coffee is offered in the morning so you can sit on your balcony enjoying the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee. The view from your room is the best -only water and the sound of waves crashing.
Review 125:Don't go in rainy season. There isn't much to do when it's raining we were very bored and there were no English tv stations. Staff were not very helpful.
Review 126:Very cheap for a nice clean room next to the ocean. We just didn't have much luck with the weather.
Review 127:I would have preferred a closer distance to the beach
Review 128:I liked the view and the distance to shops. I liked the the availability to making coffee and having drinking water available.
