Reviews for Cameron Highlands Resort
Review 1:The hotel is right on a busy, noisy road, which we did not realise from the pictures (we had pictured it sitting on a tranquil tea plantation). Though on looking again the road is visible in picture one. During our stay the daytime traffic on this road which was the only way to access to the wider area was horrendous; it would take a couple of hours to get across town. We resorted to walking everywhere. In general the area seemed to be massively over subscribed, I believe we were there during the school holidays. The central areas of the hotel seem to be of a suitably high standard, but our room (and corridors to access it) did not have a very classy feel, and were dusty. The room was very poorly insulated for sound and I was awoken each morning by the seemingly amplified sounds of neighbours on all sides using the bathroom (nothing like waking up to the repeated loud throat-clearing of a total stranger to stimulate the appetite). This was the most expensive hotel on our trip to Malaysia and I feel it represents very poor value for money compared to what can be obtained elsewhere in the country. I suspect the isolated location and lack of high end competition in the area means this place can charge what it wants. No decent bars in the area (that we could find) meant the nights dragged on a bit on this leg of our trip. Given the traffic and lack of evening entertainment in the area I would suggest staying in this area for 1 night at most anyway, and save yourself the cash and stay at a cheaper hotel, overall this one isn't worth treating yourself to.
Review 2:Staff were friendly, helpful and professional, especially the guy manning the front desk (shaved head; sorry can't recall his name) and friendly restaurant staff. The food (a la carte lunch/steamboat dinner) was good and though pricey for Malaysia did not seem extortionate. Breakfast was lovely, the staff couldn't have done more to make us feel looked after. Wifi works. Area is very pretty if you can get over the traffic. Jungle trek (on our own, hotel guide was overpriced) was fun.
Review 3:The staff was slightly rude and unhelpful. The breakfast menu was very limited.
Review 4:The views were absolutely amazing and the Spa has great therapies. The Dining room restaurant served gourmet food for good prices.
Review 5:The property is abit old and needs some sprucing up to give it a new feel.
Review 6:The ambience and decor at the lobby area is beautiful. The high tea is good value for money. Food quality and portions are very good.
Review 7:The price is way too high. At about 5 times higher than other hotels in the area I was expecting something also much better. But turned out pretty standard hotel. Rooms were good size but bathroom was very small. First hotel that i came across that we had to wait for a table for breakfast.
Review 8:It's a reasonable good hotel.
Review 9:Location was not within walking distance to city/eating places. Room was not very well-maintained. Floors were scratched and old. Pillow cases had stains on them.
Review 10:Nice hotel, big rooms, friendly staff
Review 11:The comfort of the bed, the breakfast buffet is a joke, and there are too many people trying desperately to be of assistance. This place hasn't impressed me as much as it should have.
Review 12:Gorgeous, colonial style and very lovely atmosphere of the hotel. It could start like : "I had a farm in Africa" .... But
Review 13:All staffs are very friendly and helpful. The dining room is awesome and we enjoy all the breakfast and dinner. Must try the Angus Beef Steak, it so tender and yummy.......
Review 14:The curtains in the room didn't block any light. they don't have any blackout or anything that can block the light, I was expecting that I could sleep at mornings but I couldn't as the inside the room was so bright and noisy. And the room was noisy because of the road. Whenever a car was ride over the road, it can easily heard from room. The walls were very thin, I could also heard the noises from next door. Not much variety in Breakfast. So expensive
Review 15:staff, service & cleaness
Review 16:Time for boats it should be at any time for the hotel guests . Extra charges for everything even for 8 ball pool table and that's also for each game even if u finish it in 2 minutes
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:The Hotel is perfection! The staff is incredibly trained - service you almost cannot find in Europe anymore. Especially Gerad is a delight. Very helpful and in control of everything. The tours are very nice - Jim Thompson trail with Madi (ask for it to be a bit longer and walk into the jungle) Tea plantation tour is also very nice, informative and ideal for pictures. The rooms are very clean of course, everything you need, a nice balcony and a pretty bathroom.
Review 19:Maybe the only thing that I don't like is the annoying cars passing at night cause i had a front room, so it's either the window glass need to be thicker or it's just too quiet inside but anyhow still would love to go back there.
Review 20:I love this hotel... Love the staff were wonderful, polite, friendly and very hospitable. love the english style of the place and the breakfast was good. I had a great stay there and I'll do it anytime of the year..
Review 21:Entrance. Have to walk up stairs which is quite a hassle if you have bad knee
Review 22:Some of the facilities are quite old and not maintain well. Some should be re furbished
Review 23:Roomw wasn't that clean, the price was very haigh, and it's not even the season! The building itself seems old. Bathroom is too small! dinner was very very very very expensive!!
Review 24:The location is good, staff are helpful and friendly, breakfast is good but too western and "sophisticated"
Review 25:The hot water was excellent in the morning bu no where to be found at night, they turn off the stove perhaps?
Review 26:The scenery was lovely though a long way up in the mountains. Traditional building and is like you step into another continent.
Review 27:YTL made a double booking and did not respond to Booking.com's query when I probed about the double charge. Upon reaching, the manager informed me that it was a mistake on their part and would proceed with a refund. Refund was only processed after my subsequent email enquiry but the amount was incorrect. After another enquiry, the manager informed that the balance was being processed. Money is still not in yet and it has been a month since my stay.
Review 28:Great place to chill. It's a shame the spa facilities closed too early. Had a pleasant experience with a lady front desk manager on night duty.
Review 29:The negative of its location is that is has a very straight road in front of it, which at night becomes a local drag race course. Very loud all through the night. There were not enough tables at breakfast, we had to wait, which is not something that should happen at an establishment like this. Breakfast tables could be set also in the bar to avoid guests waiting.
Review 30:The spa was great and we had a fantastic guided forest tour with the local naturalist Madi. The staff were very nice, especially two young Nepalese waiters, Shiva and Ravi, for whom nothing was too much trouble. Thank you!
Review 31:Nothing.
Review 32:Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice complimentary guided walk in the jungle (with a seasonsed guide who has seen a tiger and two black panters). The food at the restaurant.
Review 33:The towels which were used to make the swan on the beds had stains. The children play room should be upgraded.
Review 34:The staff were warm and friendly, helpful and eager to serve the customers. Good customer service!!!
Review 35:No ac in rooms No tea plantation remove the photo from the list Lot of noise from out side horns cars sound bikers late night you have to open the windows because no ac in rooms No much variety in breakfast Far from the market and restaurants
Review 36:Staff as with all YTL hotels excellent. We left very early on our last day and they packed us sandwiches for the journey. Loved the snooker table and open fires
Review 37:Not much choice of breakfast. The noise from the road makes it difficult to sleep. No air conditioning
Review 38:It is one of the nice placed to stay at the highlands. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable.
Review 39:Check in and check out time is unacceptable as most international hotels have a check in time of 12noon and check out also at 12noon When I questioned the manager, he was rude and unfriendly. For the rate we paid we expect a better treatment in regards to this particular matter.
Review 40:Staff were friendly and acomodative.
Review 41:I did not like the fact that there was no air con in the rooms. The rooms get pretty cool, but I like it freezing. That's a personal preference. The hotel sits on the highway which at times, it was extremely loud. So many loud motorbikes and cars passing. Some sounded like they were racing. Also, a car alarm went off and we could also hear horns blowing. It was awful! The second night wasn't so bad. This was a holiday weekend also.
Review 42:I love the old feel of the hotel. It has an open concept which I found calming. The staff was amazing....every last person we encountered. The spa was fantastic!!!!!
Review 43:The hotel is so close to the main road; noise of vehicles
Review 44:The staff is very helpful and polite, Tastefully decorated tea room, breakfast was great, the spacious room and comfortable, the property and surrounds were beautiful
Review 45:The pictures make it look like you will be staring at tea plantations from the window (and even enjoy high tea in the middle) - the reality is that you are above a very busy road, across from a good looking golf course but miles away from tea plantations.
Review 46:The setting and staff are amazing.
Review 47:They should remove the tea plantation from hotel photo because I thought this is there view the hotel view totally different and there is no tea plantation
Review 48:Far from both Tanah Rata and Brinchang. everytime need to call a taxi. If you are not playing golf, it's an expensive hotel.
Review 49:lovely building, old but well preserved.
Review 50:Definitely the noise because of the road.
Review 51:The hotel is great and staff really kind. This is a really nice place to enjoy Cameron Highlands. Dinner and breakfast were really really good.
Review 52:Nothing!
Review 53:Our stay at this hotel was quite memorable. We loved everything, the staff friendlyness and professionalisme, the breakfast, the Gonbei restaurant and the Spa experience.
Review 54:Good hotel with spacious rooms. The view from the room was a bit disappointing. The hotel is located a bit far from Tanah Rata so it is better to have a car. Nice atmosphere in the lobbie with the piano. Makes you want to have a drink while reading a good book.
Review 55:Floor was incredibly sticky upon arrival, and room seemed to be ready while we were waiting for it in the foyer. Ran out of certain teas at afternoon tea, and team didnt understand when asking for brown rolls with dinner/breakfast at first. They would then happily offer extra pieces though. Didnt quite get breakfast orders right, when partner asked for hashbrown or I asked for roasted tomato. Lasagna in dining hall was way too sweet, did not enjoy it, onion soup's cheese layer did not benefit from the large round crouton underneath.
Review 56:Very helpful, friendly staff throughout. Great to have free wifi everywhere. Enjoyed the Western menu in the dining hall, most dishes were well done, like the beef medaillions, mozzarella tomato salad, snapper. Beautiful setting and atmosphere, huge bed and spacious rain shower. Loved playing snooker! Few small alterations would help, like asking white or brown bread at breakfast/dinner, knowing which teas are out of stock in afternoon tea menu, improve the pastries in afternoon tea (scones, strawberries and sandwiches are great though!), not leaving all lights on after tidying the room. Double glazing to the roadside would be nice, but we slept like roses eventually nevertheless.
Review 57:The twin beds were quite small - the large rooms can handle larger beds.
Review 58:It's location in Tanah Ratah (the most 'unspoilt' town in the area) opposite the golf club with its great unobstructed views. Large room added to its resort atmosphere. Having got a renovated room with double glazing, the otherwise disturbing traffic sounds were cut off. Service was friendly and efficient.
Review 59:A little noise from road outside. But i live in London so didn't have an issue with this.
Review 60:Large comfortable room, lovely breakfast and anniversary dinner. Had afternoon tea and snooker table which we both enjoyed.
Review 61:The bathroom was not really cleaned prior to our check-in. Hair in the shower tray is not acceptable, especially given 5 stars the hotel claims. Although great majority of staff are among most pleasant I have come across, the old timers among them tend to be pretentious.
Review 62:Tranquil place with colonial vibe. Excellent evening dining. Nice spa.
Review 63:However, in the night the road in front of the hotel is used as motor race-track which makes it impossible to sleep. Also the northern part of the highlands has completely lost it's charm due to the ugly green houses being build and tourist developments. It felt not worth it coming here on our trip. We next time will avoid this area.
Review 64:Very nice hotel, staff and service.
Review 65:A negative & it isn't serious but in order to enjoy the fresh air given there is no air conditioning you want to open the door or window. The problem being no screen so many flies & Mosquitos. On previous visits the gardens were stunning however this time they appeared poorly maintained including the grassy areas.
Review 66:Location, fresh air, Spa & wonderful staff. We had 2 lovely dinners one being Beef Wellington, excellent. We requested breakfast room service, eggs Benedict however nobody seemed to be familiar with this choice. We received plain poached, probably healthier!!
Review 67:Only problem is the occasional mosquito in the rooms but the area is full of them so really not much you can do, just DEET up and hotel provides repellent plug. Would maybe recommend booking activities in the town rather than hotel though as range limited and quite expensive relatively. Also this is a general point I wish I'd been told earlier, taxis in both towns stop running around 9pm so make sure you get back to the hotel before this, plenty to do in hotel anyway with the snooker bar etc. No accessible spa area just with sauna etc but enough to do in the area and in the hotel itself!
Review 68:The hotel itself was stunning! Wish I could have stayed longer. The food was incredible, from the breakfast to the lunch and even the afternoon tea - I would recommend making time for the afternoon tea while you are here. Room was lovely with four poster bed. View over golf course was really nice. Also very easy to access either town, staff very helpful getting you a taxi. Staff overall lovely and very helpful with everything, great service. Spa looked great didn't have a chance to head there unfortunately! Fitness suite was useful addition
Review 69:ridiculous loud rooms it feels like the highway is going directly through your room. after complaining we change to a new room or is isolated windows. never stay there in the room which hasn't been renovated with isolated windows. breakfast is compared to the price and the location pretty much average.
Review 70:high tea time with delicious snacks, tea and pastries for only 10 euro you can skip the dinner. will be served from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m..
Review 71:Charming colonial hotel in beautiful historical setting in the Cameron Highlands, opposite golf course in a quiet peaceful and restful location. Excellent secure off-street parking. Wonderful ambiance. Two quality restaurants. Highly recommend the high tea.
Review 72:Bar staff standing around and were not able to provide any food as we were 5 mins late to high tea .. Had to wait till the alotted time even to a sandwich ... Fency on the front desk was great !
Review 73:I was expecting much more from hotel for this daily rate, bath is not as clean as should be. Bad smell once outside the room. I expected to choose a room in the first floor, they told me it will very noisy because there is no double glazing!!! While it was very noisy in the ground floor.
Review 74:The hotel is so close to the main road. we completely didn't get good sleep as we could hear every car or motorcycle went pass. Due to the noise we could not open the windows or door which resulted to the room is quite stuffy (there is only ceiling fan and no air conditioning)
Review 75:The building structure is very nice which gives the feel of colonial. The staff is very helpful and polite.
Review 76:The rooms and especially the dining rooms were filled with light and wonderful views. The staff were helpful and kind. The energy of the hotel was fabulous.
Review 77:Bed sheets require daily change
Review 78:Everything was perfect, the hotel is like a palace The room was very spacious, staff are very friendly, breakfast is prepared upon your request and presented fresh to you, location is very near to Tanah Rata Centre I really love it especially when they prepared a romantic surprise on the bed with roses and towel
Review 79:The golf. We borrowed golf clubs We had discounts for the over 56's (but not for Japanese), caddies who not only have laser vision but clean and place your ball wherever it lands, local youth on the course selling Callaways back to you at 20p a pop, 3 hour round on uncluttered course: what's not to like? Full mornings entertainment for under £20 each! The afternoon was spent in a tea plantation which was stunning.
Review 80:The only thing which I was annoyed about is the outside noise. Especially at night when the motorcycles speed by. May be sound proof can solve this. Else all great.
Review 81:The hotel friendly staff The spa is amazing, 5 star service. The breakfast is delicious The pianist plays lovely music at night. Where U just want to relax and listen. The hotel decor and facilities Best hotel in cameron highlands
Review 82:Although the hotel is not directly on the roadside the traffic noise can be very disturbing, I did notice however that it was mainly quiet during the night. The balcony doors do not provide good soundproofing.
Review 83:The character and ambience of the hotel was lovely. The morning complementary Jim Thompson walk was really relaxed and informative with our superb guide. The breakfasts were delicious and plentiful.
Review 84:Poor security, lost wedding rings in SPA and only recovered 4 hours later when therapist found it in changing room after several searches and lots of energy spent.
Review 85:Lounge, restaurant and breakfast all good quality. Rooms comfortable and spacious.
Review 86:The hotel is changing the windows resulting in much better sound isolation. We had still the old windows and as mentioned in previous reviews, this is quite disruptive. But again, the change is coming.
Review 87:If you like a cosy British eary 20century style hotel in a marvelous place, the CHR is the place to go. Overwhelming welcome, very nice rooms and a good location next to the golf course, close (5mins by car) to the Tea plantation area. Nice English breakfast. Would come for sure again!
Review 88:While the staff was mostly very friendly, their breakfast and lunch services were rather slow. Making up our room took them until mid afternoon.
Review 89:The hotel's location overlooking a well kept golf course. Very comfortable rooms with a small balcony. Tastefully decorated tea room. Ample parking space. Very nice High Tea.
Review 90:Dinner choices either steamboat or very western menu. Not many other places nearby. Not the hotels fault but the development in the highlands by housing and Polly tunnel farming I'd in danger of destroying the unique product
Review 91:Good hotel, looks the best in the area. Comfortable and friendly staff.
Review 92:The Cameron Highlands is like the lost world. A true oasis. We loved the hotel, the food and the service and the area around the hotel was absolutely wonderful.
Review 93:Everything is great, it just for me it is better to have checked out time later than 11am since the checked in time is at 3pm.
Review 94:So during my booking, i told the staff to do something to surprise my husband. And they did surprised him by decorating flowers on our bed. They also gave him 2 cupcakes with "Happy Birthday" written on the plates which i think is really great. The room is nice, breakfast was great and not to forget almost all of staffs are really helpful and nice.
Review 95:It was unusually wet and cold when we stayed there so the area had the feel of a ski-resort which had forgotten to snow! Not a criticism, just a matter of fact. The area can obviously be stunning when the sun shines.
Review 96:We had a particular reason for staying there, as it was where my husband lived as a child, and location did not disappoint - many of the places and buildings he remembered were still there, including the wonderful golf course right in front of the hotel. We had the steamboat in the hotel which I imagine is the steamboat to end all steamboats!!
Review 97:No ramps for elderly or the ones like me traveling with young children .
Review 98:The staff in this property are one of the best you will encounter, well trained and wonderfully courteous ,right from the time we stepped in we were greeted and taken a tour around the property by this wonderful and ever smiling Ms.Fency, she took the pain to take us to all Four corners of the property and explain.thoroughly impressed with the support staff and very professional, last but not the least Mr.Erik made our stay even memorable with memento.
Review 99:Windows and doors in room allow air to leak in the winter making the room cold.
Review 100:Excellent location, historical but well maintained bldg, friendly and helpful staff! Don't miss the steamboat at restaurant!
Review 101:no bath gel just salts unscented salts, no full length mirror, noise from cars on the road and worse when it has rained and the cars are splashing, no sauna - spa village just has expensive massages
Review 102:Seated check in with hot towel and tea, salt fruit basket, turn down service, breakfast, friendly staff, complimentary Jim Thompson mystery tour.
Review 103:It was noisy a little bit because of the cars outside, but it was acceptable.
Review 104:It was an excellent stay at Cameron resort highlands. The style of the hotel, the ancient fashioned decoration, the very supportive staff made my stay just unforgettable. Fabulous stay and a nice experience.
Review 105:- Rooms were noisy at night as we were next to the main road - Walls are thin and we could hear the noisy next door neighbours - Service in the Dining Room was very slow. We had to wait almost one and a half hours for our main course to arrive.
Review 106:- Spacious Rooms - Staff were accommodating when helping us get adjoining rooms - Food was delicious at both restaurants
Review 107:Noisy as the rooms face the main road. Expensive and costly stay. Bathroom has no bathtub.
Review 108:Bfast was good. Colonial style setting. Convenient location next to the main road.
Review 109:Always a wonderful resort to visit with great staff. Stylish and way above any other accommodation in the area. The only place in Cameron Highlands that doesn't have an issue with musty and moist smells.
Review 110:The noises coming from the street. The snooker table unbalanced. The price of the food is little pet expensive.
Review 111:Location, 5 min to the down town by taxi. Comfort The chimney in the reading room and at the bar area. The quietness The amazing food ( breakfast & spicily the beef lasagne )
Review 112:Rooms didnt have AC... Although it was comfortable but should have had AC.
Review 113:Location is amazing.... View from the rooms faces golf course and pretty soothing...
Review 114:Overpriced. Too much traffic directly in front of the hotel
Review 115:I enjoyed the colonial style of the building. One of the few places in Cameron Highlands that provide tranquility and comfort
Review 116:1- the room have a very bad smell which is really disturbing us and it is first time for me to have such smell experince in such so called five stars hotel , this smell I can find it only in 2 stars hotel not such hotel . 2 - the road besid the hotel have a very high level of noise and the poor sound proof of the doors and windows, it made me awake the whole night and I couldn't sleep due to the car noise outside the hotel .
Review 117:The rooms are now mostly sound proof, but you can still hear cars at night.
Review 118:When you arrive, the Butler shows you the facilities and make sure you feel comfortable. In the evening, they prepare your room for the night. Great breakfast, no buffet, but hand cooked meals with fresh strawberries.
Review 119:A pity that the Resort is situated at the very busy road - no chance tosleep with open windows...
Review 120:..My super housekeeping team asrah and Sohan with their everyday specialroom decoration; ...the delicious evening treat (strawberries, homemadecookies, pralinés) ...the beautiful rose at night
Review 121:Warming staff, clean and very nice hospitality, room are very comfortable and clean, helpful staff with a smile, in room Ipod/Iphone sound system I like it,
Review 122:The road noise, the hot/cold water taps in the shower, the noisy fan in the bathroom, the old towels basket in the bathroom, the small TV.
Review 123:The registration process, the service at breakfast and the piano.
Review 124:The sheets were not entirely spotless, there were some stains on it. Stained sheets are not quite acceptable for a 5 star resort as this.
Review 125:The spacious room and comfortable seating arrangements, the bed and pillows.
Review 126:However as the length of the hotel runs along the straightest stretch of road leading into Tanah Rata town, there is constant overtaking of vehicles/motorbikes emitting loud noises audible inside rooms and excessive fumes smelt around the entrance level of the hotel and also inside rooms if windows/doors are open. To compound matters, mosquitoes are found inside rooms too. With windows and doors closed all the time by necessity, we thus didn't get to enjoy the better/good quality air of Cameron Highlands nor the peace and quiet we were looking forward to. If the hotel management is truly serious about improving customer experience and would like to see returning customers, they should be looking at doing the following as a minimum:- 1) get local council to place elevated road partitions in at least two areas of the straight stretch of road outside the hotel to deter noisy speeding and dangerous overtaking by vehicles and motorbikes alike; 2) place medium-height leafy or hedge-like pot plants on all balconies to absorb some of the traffic noise and slightly improve the air quality on balconies; 3) install insect netting on all windows (doors unnecessary). As an aside, I understand the hotel is considering double glazing for windows and doors but with no air conditioning inside rooms, that won't necessarily solve the above underlying problems facing the hotel.
Review 127:We booked two rooms and stayed for three nights. We can't fault the beautiful architecture, decor and service of the hotel and its staff.
Review 128:You had to get a taxi into town as the hotel is positioned a bit outside, but they weren't expensive!
Review 129:We had a great couple of days at the cameron highlands resort. The room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable! The staff were lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
Review 130:All the hotel rooms are orientated 20 m to a very circulated road and it is very noisy till late midnight. Hotel is old building without any phono-isolation , the noise made by old cars is impossible. After midnight cars become rarely . Also at 5 a.m. a nearby mosque has called its prayers with big ''voice'' so we wake up at that time.
Review 131:the hotel is like a clean civilised island surrounded by ancient dirty town and dirty places. hotel us clean, comfortable and good restaurants available. staff is ''british politely" and all atmosphere is very colonial and very friendly.
Review 132:Sleep-interrupting traffic noise as main road runs alongside length of hotel. There's frequent speeding or overtaking cars/motorbikes as it was the only straight stretch of road approaching Tanah Rata. Lots of mosquitoes inside room. Hotel needs pot plants on balconies, double/triple glazing and mosquito netting for windows to make the guest experience lives up to expectations and price.
Review 133:Charming colonial style, clean rooms.
Review 134:Bathroom a little dated but only because I have to say something - I really enjoyed my stay.
Review 135:The spa treatments were amazing. Highly recommend and beautifully presented.
