Reviews for Albergo Del Sole
Review 1:Comfortable room, very clean, nice breakfast menu, friendly staff at every shift. At 8 am and 8 pm you are close enough to cathedral to hear lovely melody of their bells.Roof-top dining area, and suited to smokers [which I am not]
Review 2:Unfortunately the area of town in which the hotel is situated is very run down, although the locals seemed friendly enough.
Review 3:The room and hotel were clean and modern with friendly efficient staff and good breakfasts generally, although the last morning's pastries were not as fresh as they had been. Good free parking and Wi-fi.
Review 4:I think the old city isn't anymore what it has been... dark, dirty and not really inviting...
Review 5:good hotel in a good situation. parking in front of the hotel...
Review 6:Although WiFi was free and always on the download speeds weren't the best. A common problem in Italy and I don't blame the hotel.
Review 7:Excellent air con in the 40°C heat. Very helpful, friendly staff. Great view from the 2 balconies!
Review 8:Maybe for some travellers the location at the very end of the old city (almost in ruins, but still most interesting) may be a minus point as they can be concerned about safety. Don't be. We can reassure them!
Review 9:Great location with sea views at the end of the fascinating old city on an island between the more industrial part and the not unattractive modern town section, connected by two bridges at either end. Fascinating geographical situation. The hotel is a little gem at very fair prices. Deserves 4 stars.
Review 10:I wasn't very fond of the staff - their approach could be somewhat rude and I wasn't too happy with the fact that we had to leave our hotel room card with reception every time we would leave. I upgraded on the basis that we would have a balcony but unfortunately, we didn't.
Review 11:The rooms were lovely, the beds were comfortable, the view from our room was beautiful and the pastries at breakfast were great. All in all, it was an o-kay experience.
Review 12:Isole area is a bit run down. No hotel restaurant or bar although there is a great fish restaurant La Paranza nearby and downtown shopping is a safe 10 minute walk away.
Review 13:New sleek modern look. Choose the sea view rooms, ours had two balconies for morning and evening. Good staff, thanks Dario. As it was off season we could leave the hire car directly outside for no charge.
Review 14:Charming staff, beautifully modernised room in restored building close to the station in Taranto old town. The old town is extraordinarily run down and decrepit but is nonetheless fascinating.
Review 15:There was a man handling parking without being asked and asking for money. Not pleasant.
Review 16:Good location. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was basic but adequate.
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:First of all, very very sympathetic helpful manager at resaption. Than, this hotel is located near fish market. Many restaurants with variety of sea products.
Review 19:Some people would find the nearby closed-up tenements and dark streets of the old quarter a bit intimidating - but do not be put off. There's lots to see and nearby has been done up.
Review 20:Really nice small hotel in the old quarter with great staff. Lots of pristine stonework arches - including in the bedroom and shower!. Right by the fishing port, a few nice restaurants nearby and a short walk to the station and numerous buses (some of which stop just nearby).
Review 21:Dodgy seafood restaurant across the road ! Great if you aren't frightened of seafood not good if your limit is fish and chips
Review 22:Very clean with great room and fab views of the sea. Breakfast was really nice with loads of choice
Review 23:Wi-Fi was weak in the room. The shower (nice) can be improved to avoid leaking.
Review 24:This hotel is in the old city, close to the historic churchs and refurbished wonderful old buildings of different periods and the XV century castle. The breakfast was deliciously Italian. Oh, I will return to this Hotel. I was forgetting the view: GRRRRREAT!
Review 25:Excellent situation less than ten minutes walk from Taranto station. Next to the old town, although, like others, we were recommended not to go there in the evening as it may be that some undesirables hang around, which was disappointing as we were only there for one night and arrived after 7pm. However we took a walk round the perimeter and went over to what I must assume was the 'new' town and the place was jumping. We had been recommended a restaurant there which we found ok and it was excellent.
Review 26:beautiful room and bathroom, very nicely refurbished with e.g. Philip Starck furniture, perfect bathroom, very nice girl in the recpetion who was fluent in English (which is rare)
Review 27:We were not informed we'd get an inside room. Old city is not pittoresqe, just very run-down. (Although some restoration clearly is happening)
Review 28:New and elegant all through. Very friendly and helpful.girl in the reception. Good breakfast. Spacious room. Big roof terrace. Walking distance to railway station. Good restaurants in the neighborhood.New Taranto a positve surprise; good shopping, great seaside promenades.
Review 29:there is no sea view at this hotel: just a view to an intersection busy with cars and some pool of water connected to the sea. there is no balcony worth the name.
Review 30:close to the railway station, staff friendliness, reasonable breakfast and good coffee, wifi OK
Review 31:Clean, recently renovated hotel on waters edge in old town. Comfortable room with good views from balcony.
Review 32:Felt a bit corporate
Review 33:The room had 2 balconies which overlooked the water - fantastic
Review 34:Wonderful location, easy parking, and super breakfast.
Review 35:Breakfast could be better. But nice staff there.
Review 36:Very friendly staff! Great location and view from my room of the Sea!
Review 37:A bit far away from city center. You can walk but neighbourhood not so good.

Review 53:This hotel is excellent. Fine location with the old town just a walk away and the waterfront right in front. Great restaurants around it . The staff was very helpful and always with a smile for us. They all spoke English very well. I recomend it 100%
Review 54:In the old and rough section of the city. No wifi in the rooms and there were no cafes open around after dark.
Review 55:Everything was clean and neat, staff was very helpful. breakfast was very typical.
Review 56:Hotel rooms were newly renovated keeping traditional style i.e. curved stone roof -which was fantastic. All amenities were of 5 star quality. The girls on reception were very helpful. Breakfast was fresh and varied. Hotel is walking distance from train station. Although it is in the old part of Taranto - the area is nice and quiet and all nearby restaurants were all good. (Wonderful fresh seafood diagonally across the square from the Hotel.) Overall value for money-superb. Would definitely stay again.
Review 57:Nothing - certainly not for all tourists but an interesting place to spend a couple of nights and a contrast to other more picturesque towns and cities.
Review 58:Hotel situated in old town - run down but very interesting. New part only a 10-15 minute walk to all shops and more restaurants. Modern design of hotel and rooms on busy Piazza right at the end of the old town. Staff helpful. Room comfortable Duomo different - access to all areas with enthusiastic locals (in our case) showing you some of the hidden treasures of the building. Memorable.
Review 59:The location, on the edge of the mostly derelict "old town". Not nice to walk around at night.
Review 60:The Hotel is just a year old, and beautifully designed. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 61:Taranto is a polluted city and we felt sorry for people having tolive there.
Review 62:The Hotel was close to the station and the old city. It was cleanand comfortable and served a nice breakfast. Reception stafffriendly and helpful.
Review 63:There is limited choice for breakfast if you choose to eat towards the end of the session.
Review 64:Spotlessly clean hotel with welcoming staff and very comfortable rooms. Convenient location near to the station and restaurants with beautiful views.
Review 65:All aspects were excellent
Review 66:I arrived late evening after 14 hours train travel. Reception lady waswelcoming and efficient in the registration, and conducted me to theelevator lift. Breakfasts were satisfying and varied. Special thanks toMr Antonio Giancola for his help in locating fse train departure stationserving small towns.
Review 67:On the other side from the new center, so one has to cross the oldcenter (not a pleasant walk at night), small rooms, not enough air.Coffee from a nespresso machine, not hand made
Review 68:It's a shame that the town doesn't offer much and feels unsafe at night

Review 76:The beauty of the hotel in contrast to the uglyness of the 'Città vecchia'.
