Reviews for Hotel Frances

Review 1:would not stay here again. the discoteque next door goes until 4 or 5 in the morning making it impossible to sleep. was exhausted after 2 nights of no sleep.

Review 2:Too noisy. The bar next door playing loud music the whole night. I think the price i payed was too much for this room. Dusty floor on room.

Review 3:Location. Hotel view.

Review 4:View from our roof top room; staff very helpful; Mariachi band and guitars the following night. Shopping, museums, central market and so forth. Just wonderful. We are planning to come again in the spring.

Review 5:Junior Suite without any window! Stuffy and shabby room. Very loud music from a nearby bar and from the hotel lobby until 4am makes it very hard to find any sleep.

Review 6:Located in the center of Guadalajara

Review 7:My reservation wasn't on their books & room price was different than that listed on your site.

Review 8:Very central to the sights & attractions of Guatalahara.

Review 9:Tiny room. Old everything. Shower was terrible. Sheets and towels were old and grey. Wi-fi barely worked in our room.

Review 10:Nice historic place with character. Friendly people. Free entertainment (mariachi music) on some nights. Traditional, authentic feel. Good location.

Review 11:Location of property to downtown area is great. Asked to speak with management about *areas of concern and was never attended. Place was fumigated while we were out for a walk and found cockroaches in room. Food at Restaurant next door is ok but did not eat there again after fumigation. *

Review 12:Close to downtown areas

Review 13:The hotel lobby is cold, poorly lit and cluttered. The room was dirty and linens worn and course.

Review 14:The hotel retains its colonial past, but it badly needs a face lift. It feels like Mexico. It's why I booked it. But it has been neglected. The hotel could be something incredible.

Review 15:Due to the location in the center of the city the noise tended to be high. The lack of air conditioning made it necessary to keep the windows open.

Review 16:The live entertainment in the evening played in the lobby, but viewable from the balconies close to your rooms made this a very enjoyable stay.

Review 17:Location is incredible. The hotel was unique and great for us since we had a huge room on the top floor with practically a private terrace. The elevator didn't work so that was 4 floors up, but it was worth it.

Review 18:Some deferred maintenance issues. Bed not very comfortable. Small upgrades would make a big difference, such as new bed linens and towels in the bathroom. Without these and other amenities, I wonder how it can be rated 4-star.

Review 19:Elegant and historic property in the heart of the historic center of the city. Friendly staff. Great value.

Review 20:The beds were hard and they need air conditioning

Review 21:All staff was very friendly and helpful. Friday nights are fun because of their variety show in the lobby. From mariachi bands to invited singers. Lots to drink!!:)

Review 22:The size of our room seemed to suggest a larger room but the amenities made it worth the value.

Review 23:The freshness and antiquity, hot water in sn updated bathroom, quaint servicable elevator, good wifi.

Review 24:Feel and read about the history of the hotel and area, walk around the magnificant squares, take time to people watch and love the foods! The staff is wonderful and very helpful!

Review 25:the noice of the musicin that specific room.

Review 26:second night we sleep better in the room in the 3rd floor. great view of the city. the location of the hotel is the best. I know the city and enjoyed the location. the best. enjoy the stayed.

Review 27:The hotel is noisy both from inside and outside.

Review 28:The bartender Humberto was a good host and a great singer. Some very good musical entertainment in the evenings.

Review 29:The beds are firmer than in N. American hotels but we found them OK. The sheets and towels are clean but getting old. Everything is monogrammed so they are unique and probably expensive to replace

Review 30:Classy, historic hotel. Clean, great staff. Excellent buffet food for 80 pesos. They have chefs who are happy to cook some foods not in the buffet. My wife wanted 2 eggs sunny side up on toast instead of the buffet items. no problem! We will stay there again. The WiFi is the best we have ever experienced in a hotel anywhere! The rooftop lounge area is a plus with great views and cooling breezes in the evenings. You cannot be more central 200 meters to plazas and the cathedral. Loved the atrium, the antique elevator, stone arches, fountain in the lounge area and the general ambience. Where else can you stay in a quality historic place for $99 US for 3 nights

Review 31:I like music, but I wish it stopped by midnight. A nearby disco keeps going until 3 AM.

Review 32:I love the location! Very near main square where entertainment is on going.

Review 33:Bar/Discotheque next door is loud and closes at 3:30 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Room 219 smelled a mildewy.

Review 34:Location. Location. Location. You can walk all around the Centro Historical. Very safe at night.

Review 35:Most nights the disco opens around 10:30 and the base and vocals are audible in every room. Ear plugs,an extra pillow and a prescription sleeping tablet are necessary if you plan to get to sleep before 1 am

Review 36:a character hotel, great location

Review 37:Booking .com gave me a price of 94.45 Canadian plus 16% tax. At theexchange rate on the day we checked in and paid, should have beenapprox. 1200 pesos for the three nights. However, they charged us 1641pesos. When I* queried the desk staff, they could only show me whattheir computer said which was the hotel's advertised rate of 547pesos per night. So why did this happen Booking.com???

Review 38:Location, location, location for a great hotel with lots of characterand ambiance.

Review 39:The bed was very (hard) uncomfortable. The towels were old, discoloured and threadbare. Bathroom was musty.

Review 40:Location was great. Lobby was comfortable and the entertainment was good.

Review 41:Out dated furniture and decor, hard beds and pillow. The shower was a dribble, spittle of hot water. A new paint job and simplified decor would be perfect for this hotel.

Review 42:I loved the character of the hotel, the rooftop views and the location. The rooms were very clean.

Review 43:A quirky hotel right in the city centre. Masses and masses of old world style. If they spent time and money doing it up they could charge 3 times as much and would be full.

Review 44:there is a bar next door with very loud music all night long. if they would renovate the place, like the bathrooms, it would be a great place.

Review 45:Location is perfect, middle of historical centre. Beautiful building. We had a very large room, clean.

Review 46:It was loud late at night, but it was New Years eve.

Review 47:The hotel was charming and atmospheric, and the view from the roof was really quite unbelievable. My room was clean and comfortable, though quite small. The staff was wonderfully helpful and accommodating, even walking me to a convenience store to buy cigarettes late at night and lending me 50 pesos when I discovered I had no cash at the convenience store.

Review 48:Wifi worked occasionally, very cold and no heat, rooms were very simple with no where to put anything, hard bed and pillow.

Review 49:The staff were very helpful and accommodating in trying to find us a place open for dinner on Christmas. The location cannot be beat! Right in the heart of the historic district with bus and metro station near by. Simple but good for a night or two.

Review 50:Bedding very dated and grubby. Smelly rooms Restaurant - dirty tablecloths and dust everywhere. Very loud disco - could not sleep. After I complained and decided to move out of the hotel...the restaurant staff very quite rude - refusing at first to serve me an omelette or coffee and refusing to serve my son. Eventually they did serve us but we got the impression that the staff had heard about my complaints and this was their way of objecting. I am waiting for my refund which I have been told will take ten days - this is ridiculous and I cannot see how the hotel can justify this.

Review 51:Staff were good most of the time. They did agree to give me a refund when I moved out of the hotel due to the very loud disco which it was impossible to sleep through.

Review 52:The staff make you feel you're bothering them. They stare at you as if you're not supposed to stand in front of the reception desk. They never say thank you or you're welcome. The building is 400 Years old and so are the towels. Way too nosy,

Review 53:Nothing

Review 54:I really fidnt mind the night coub downstairs. I went for awhile one night. But bring good ear plugs if u don't like music. Mine worked for the 2nd night

Review 55:The service was excellent. Good wifi. The hotel was built in 1610. If you like historical hotel, thus is beautiful. Location great for walking to museum, wax museum, cathedrals. Can catch a horse and buggy to see more sites or small train. Shopping is wonerful with great local prices.

Review 56:The NOISE! Now I am a very sound sleeper. I often joke that I could sleep through the apocalypse. But even I struggled to sleep through the echoes of laughter, talking, live music, loud footsteps outside etc. The live music is great but often does not stop until 1 or 2 in the morning. Even on weeknights. If you value your sleep and require silence to doze off I think you may have serious problems here.

Review 57:The room service was well done. Customer service at reception was wonderful. The ambiance was great, with live music and a lot of socializing amongst guests. The hotel was beautiful inside with a very cool old elevator and beautiful chandelier.

Review 58:The pillows were hard and there was construction going on 24/7 making it hard to sleep.

Review 59:I loved the history the architecture and the old world charm. The people were warm and friendly and I always had breakfast in the restaurant where they have fresh artisan bread everyday.

Review 60:Sometimes it could get a bit noisy as the rooms are arranged around a huge courtyard. However, the charm of the hotel more than made up for this.

Review 61:How many chances do you get to stay in a hotel that dates from 1610? The atmosphere and the staff are great.

Review 62:The hotel did not seem to care about any details to make the place comfortable. Like there could have been towels in the room.

Review 63:Really old style hotel in a great location in centro Guadalajara. Staff was helpful but maybe a little spaced out.

Review 64:The building reflects sound very well and the doors and windows are not soundproof at all. There are two bars at the ground level which you can hear in most of the rooms until 3-4am. Several nights there were mariachis in the center courtyard of the building usually they stopped at 12 but one Fri night there was a band that included trumpets that went until 2am. I guess that's fine if you want to join in the festivities but impossible to sleep through even with earplugs. Also, few of the rooms had widows to the outside much less ventilation other than opening shutters to the common courtyard.

Review 65:Hotel Frances is located right in the middle of the Guadalajara Centro which allows for walking access to all that downtown offers. The building which was built in 1610 is very picturesque. The staff for the most part is helpful and somewhat bilingual.

Review 66:Outside noise was terrible. Went on until 4 each morning. Good hotel for people who wear hearing aides. They can take. Them out and sleep peacefully

Review 67:-Somewhat dated, stuffy rooms. -no safe in room -wifi was VERY spotty But seriously, come on. The hotel was built in 1609. I'd definitely stay here again.

Review 68:Pros: -central location in centro historico -walking distance to mercado San Juan de Dios, central square, la Fuente cantina, 9 esquinas, and other downtown attractions. -fantastic value...clean, and accommodating. -able to secure a taxi for my flight in the early morning.

Review 69:Noise from the lounge

Review 70:The building style and the location are great

Review 71:I love the location and the history of the hotel. I always love staying here when I come to GDL.

Review 72:The bed was not comfortable at all. The television was very antique.

Review 73:Wonderful view of centro historico from the rooftop terrace.Excellent breakfast buffet.

Review 74:Vary loud guest i asked fronteras desk to please stop some of the partying but it World Start again and lasted all Night. So hot no Good sleep

Review 94:The hotel! This is an amazing experience to stay at historic hotel. The old elevator! We felt like we were in a time machine back to the 1890's.
