Reviews for Paracas Backpackers House
Review 1:at least the 10 bed dorm was not equipped with lockers
Review 2:very engaged staff, freely useable kitchen, nice location, might be nicer after currently ongoing renovation
Review 3:A complete dissapointment given the good reviews this place has. Dorm was in the 4th floor, only one dirty shower and 1 dirty toilet. The place seemed to be under construction and nobody seemed to be taking any care of the common areas.
Review 4:We really enjoyed our stay but unfortunately there were contruction workers working for the structure and they started making noise early in the morning. But it was ok, afterall we had to wake up early anyways ;-)
Review 5:Nice hammocks :-) Helpful and similing staff. Nice kitchen.
Review 6:Some parts of the hostel seem like they are still under construction and the kitchen seemed crowded and a bit messy. The blinds in our room were yellow and thin and let a lot of light in the room so it was hard to sleep. It was very noisy outside and a rooster's crow kept us up since about 4am and it didn't stop until about 9am. This really is not the hostel's fault but something to keep in mind if you want to get some real rest at night. I guess with a sleep mask and ear plugs you would be ok!
Review 7:The rooms were comfortable and clean. They leave towels and a small soap on the bed for you to use during your stay. I asked for an extra blanket and they were happy to give one to me. The staff was very helpful, even after our check-out. We checked out at noon but our bus didn't leave until 7pm, so they let us leave our bags near the reception desk and when we came back from the beach they let us use the shared showers with no charge.
Review 8:No staff interaction. One of the two beds in room 5 is horrible! Springs sticking out! Bathrooms were disgusting and no toilet paper most of the time.
Review 9:Location
Review 10:There is extensive building work going on so it is very noisy and dusty from 8am every day! There was also a lot of other noise at all hours of the night which could be easily heard.
Review 11:Very helpful and friendly staff. There were good kitchen facilities to use and a nice courtyard area with hammocks to chill out. The rooms were new and spacious.
Review 12:Everything about the hostel was perfect but if you are thinking of renting bicycles to the national park be mindful that it is a 45km round trip on gravel roads and uneven terrain in desert heat - should not be recommended for novices!! Take a taxi, bus or quad bike!
Review 13:The owner is lovely, we made good use of the kitchen and the wifi is good in the main communal area. Showers are AMAZING and hot. Location is great and staff are very helpful. Great base for national park and Islas Ballestas.
Review 14:There is some construction work going on that is inevitable a little noisy at times. However, it will no doubt soon be done!
Review 15:Great location, very knowledgeable Alberto, friendly staff and all very clean. Very close to the Oltasur bus stop.
Review 16:Under construction, dusty and noise starts early enough, although I was up and heading out to islands anyway, might be a problem if you want to sleep in. No breakfast when I was up before 8.
Review 17:In middle of the town (although its only a small town anyway) Comfortable bed in private room.
Review 18:Alberto and his wife are experienced hotel managers, and it shows in the seamless booking, checkin, and daily management. They also booked all our Paracas excursions and our Nazca flight...no problems. Highly recommended.
Review 19:No lockers. Internet is not the best. Not enough plugs in the 10 bedroom dorm and one toilet/shower not enough. Unser the week noisy because of the workers that extend the Hostel. Kitchen equipment very basic.
Review 20:Location is good and staff really friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable. Coffee and Tee for breakfast.
Review 21:the bathrooms were being renovated, only one shower had hot water wiring. My boyfriend got zapped three times in the shower from touching the tap, unable to report to staff due to language barrier. Wifi didn't reach the rooms we stayed in as they were 2 doors up the road. Kitchen was beyond basic. Glad it was only one night. Once they finish the renovations I'm sure it'll be ok. Should be cheaper untill this time
Review 22:We stayed only one night, plenty of blankets but the place is under construction, or room was 2 doors up from the hostel which was basically wooden walls and a roof.
Review 23:Building location and pour structure, luck of wifi and breakfast
Review 24:They placed me in the location two houses away from the main office. No wifi here. Room is not even properly built, so temperature inside was same as outside. I had to sleep in my cloth! I could hear every single word in next room. No breakfast included!!! And nothing works around at 7am to get food. So u end up going for a boat trip totally hungry and getting sick there.
Review 25:No breakfast, very loud (but due to discoteca, so it's loud in every hostel!)
Review 26:Great location, very clean room with bathroom. Personal cleaned everyday!!! tours can be booked at hostel and they are Amazing!
Review 27:Only one bathroom for a dorm of 10 people. Usually okay but another would prevent people waiting. Wifi not brilliant in the dorm.
Review 28:Great owner. Alberto is very helpful and friendly! Good kitchen. Great wifi in communal areas. Great location near the seafront.
Review 29:We came because of Islas the Ballestas trip. The trip was cancelled because od weather and personal was not able to arrange for us the different option. We have to arrange tour alone ith local agency. We slept in wooden boxes in the court next to the reception. There was no wifi and no hot water in shower.
Review 30:Personal was very friendly and explain facilities of the town.Price
Review 31:The wifi didn't work in our room, the shower was freezing and the place was a building site with no communal areas.
Review 32:The staff were so fantastic when I had a problem with a tour company. It's a shame there were a few problems with the place because the owners are super sweet.
Review 33:No wifi in the rooms, and facilities are being worked on. So will be much better very soon
Review 34:run by the nicest and most helpful chap in the world, more than happy to help with anything. And couldn't be more apologetic when the shower broke. Helped us booked our tours. Busses and didn't mind staying one night less
Review 35:Paracas Backpackers House is currently undergoing major building works which means that there is dust covering everything, the kitchen is difficult to use as it has no walls, there is scaffolding obstructing walk ways and it is noisy. There was a cockroach in the communal shower. Whilst it could be a nice hostel look else where for the next few weeks. (Visited July 2015).
Review 36:Good location
Review 37:They are expanding the hotel and you have to walk through the building site to get to your room
Review 38:Rooms are light, and have a good bed. HAmmocks in the courtyard are really nice
Review 39:A little noisy at night but there was a convention in town that might have added to the noisenoisem
Review 40:Lydia is a delightful person. Alberto also but I didn't get to visit much with him.The rooms are clean and the bed confortable. Have use of the refrigerator and kitchen.
Review 41:- The whole place is a construction site right now. Be careful especially at night when approaching your room. - The tour to the Paracas national park, what they offer, really sucks. It is a rip off, you don't see much from the park because "it is not enough time", but in the end they reserve 2,5 hours for you to have a lunch in an overprized restaurant.
Review 42:- Nice stuff
Review 43:The wifi was poor and the room did not have a handle on inside. Therefore it was very hard to get in-out from inside room.
Review 44:There was a kitchen and sitting area. You can book tours from Hostal. The owners where very nice and helpful.
Review 45:Was a bit cold for me, so thicker blankets would be better.
Review 46:It's like room cabins and the bathroom was outside which I liked as there was a lot of open space. We were able to wash our clothes and hang them outside. 5-10 mins walk to cruz del sol bus stop, but Paracas itself isn't big anyways.
Review 47:Place was under construction at the time but didn't really inconvenience is in any way.
Review 48:Great advice and information provided by the owners upon arrival. Booked our tour with them.
Review 49:Conforty bed, clean. Helpful staff and good tours. At the moment there is a lot of building work but I found it amusing more than a problem. Abit like Carry on abroad :-)
Review 50:Wifi was down almost the entire time we were here. Walls are paper thin.
Review 51:Great location. Owner is great - helpful and friendly. Can't beat what you get for what you pay!
Review 52:Rooms not soundproof so could hear everything including other guests in the shared patio area at night. Double room but bed only three quarter with sheets that didn't fit. Clean but not that comfortable.
Review 53:Paracas is an excellent place to stay and the hostal is in a good central position. The staff are friendly and helpful and arranged the one day trip to Islas Balletas and the National Park which was very good. Kitchen available for guest use
Review 54:Maybe a breakfast included might have been nicer. The lady at the front desk could have been more helpful to the guests if only she wasn't grooming herself all the time. Fans in the room would have made the hot afternoons better.
Review 55:Booking confirmation, directions, scheduling of trips, etc were very professional and clear. I managed to get a room well before the check-in time. Alberto and Lidia are all round great hostel owner-managers. Lounge chairs outside the room are a nice touch.
Review 56:Minor comments but the large dorm doesn't have lockers. Also, the bathroom could use a coat hook for towels/clothes while showering as nowhere to hang anything. I would still return though!
Review 57:The staff are fantastic, make you feel so at home & welcome. Lovely courtyard makes it easy to socialise. Large kitchen. Tours offered at great rates; cheaper than other accommodation offers.
Review 58:Too many rooms for this relatively small hostel gives you the impression it's always crowded, quite noisy, the shower upstairs gets dirty really quick, the wi-fi is extra slow.
Review 59:Comfy bed, location, competent and nice staff
Review 60:Some of the female staff are very unfriendly, barking at customers and generally unhelpfull. The hotel is a great place for all kinds of people. But be sure to ask a room as far away from the common area as possible. Else you will be kept awake by drunk backpackers talking about all their past adventures (and how much they drank in thailand). The lights in the hallways tend to light up the rooms at night. Also, they are building a new hotel next to it, so dont stay between 8 and 5 in the afternoon, the noise is unbearable. Anyway, a good hotel but some bad design decisions.
Review 61:Good value, armando is very nice,
Review 62:Very close to all that you would want to do in Paracas, including the Ballesta Island tours. The staff was great and helped us to book our tours and get us from there to Ica the next day.
Review 63:can hear every discussion of each neighbour rooms, but it's quiet at night Peoples that don't respect the shared bathroom and forgot to flush toilet ?!
Review 64:Bike rental, little kitchen available, bed comfortable
Review 65:Only negative thing was, that it was not possible to pay the tours with Credit card. And that they didnt accept Dollars. But thats not really negative.
Review 66:The atmosphere was really familiar. And the Staff was really nice, Kind and helpful
Review 67:Bathroom acquired layer of dust when window was left ajar - (presumably due to desert location).
Review 68:Location handy for resort facilities and seafront. Tours arranged by hostel at good prices.
Review 69:Noisy...you hear everybody walking over and talking (starts at 6:00 a.m.)
Review 70:Close to everything, great Staff, nice and clean room (we had one with private bath), well-organized Tours for good prices!
Review 71:Wooden "rooms" are horrible. They are small and you can hear all the noises from street and common are. It's impossible to sleep if there are people talking o cooking in common area. They are very simple and uncomfortabel to sleep.
Review 72:Staff is friendly.
Review 73:We had the room closest to the kitchen and lobby where everyone was hanging out in the evenings, and the walls were very thin so it was pretty noisy until about 23:00.
Review 74:Alberto, the owner, sent us a map with directions in advance. So finding the place was super easy. We came early in the morning, very tired from a horrible bus ride from Arequipa. And the check-in wasn't until 13:00, but Alberto was very helpful and found us a room so we could get some sleep and didn't charge us any extra for the additional hours! Facilities was great, nice showers with hot water, clean shared toilets, a kitchen where you could cook your food and socialize with the other guests. There was also a relax area with hammocks, sun beds etc! The room was simple but had everything we needed, except maybe some knobs on the walls for hanging your towel or clothes on. But it had a simple shelf where you could store your belongings! Overall it was a very pleasant stay!
Review 75:Bathroom could have been cleaner and the community bathrooms definitely needed more cleaning throughout the day!
Review 76:Booked online and didn't realize how small and hot the rooms would be and that it was shared bathroom but they had room and allowed us to upgrade for a little bit extra $ to a bigger room with private bathroom!
Review 77:The wooden-construction rooms were very crude. Noise travelled consistantly but all was quiet by 10:30 to 11 p.m.
Review 78:The atmosphere was friendly, the host (Alberto) was extremely helpful and the other guests interesting. Location is right in town center and most things are within walking distance. Good value for tours and accommodations, especially for us fixed-income seniors. Values like can keep me travelling for a while longer.
Review 79:Kitchen was a little cramped.
Review 80:Alberto, Lydia and the rest of their staff were so good. The hostel is very clean and the court yard is good for socializing.
Review 81:WiFi a bit week at far end of terrace area
Review 82:Clean, comfy room (we stayed in main building, not wooden one). Good kitchen - blender for frui smoothies! Good location, helpful, knowledgeable staff.
Review 83:Too many people, noisy, common toilets
Review 84:Helpful and friendly stuff, good location (beach, shops, restaurants) perfect organization of excurtions (cheap excurtions, rent of bicycles, convinient transfer to Ica and Huacachina)
Review 85:Improvements to the hostel where carried out all through the night. Drilling? Banging. In fairness the owner took money off the last nights bill in compensation but I eoukd have rather had a good nights sleep
Review 86:Location, very clean, good tour desk
Review 87:Shared bathroom not mentioned in search results or hotel's Booking.com page under rooms and rates section, misleading Shared bathroom facilities very dirty Beds not very comfortable, room noisy Most staff didn't speak English
Review 88:Staff very nice and helpful Good location Good value Clean rooms
Review 89:Very noisy, thin "walls", you can hear people in room next to you. One of the worst mattresses since months (same budget class)
Review 90:Clean place Extremely nice owner, very helpful Nice place to relax outdoor Good shower pressure and temperature Good advice about and very good price for tours
Review 91:It's a bit spartan and the toilet, for example, were very very tiny that I couldn't fit the legs. However, I would go again in this hostel.
Review 92:The staff is very open, I would also suggest the tour to Islas Paracas and to the Paracas reserve (with Gino, the guide) that were cheaper compared to the other but very enjoyable!!
Review 93:The staff were lovely and very understanding, we loved our stay and could have easily stayed longer. The computer worked perfectly and the internet was excellent. The kitchen facilities were great, the shower was hot and powerful and toilets were clean. Lots of good advice regarding travel, shopping and tours etc was given. Couldn't have asked for more.
Review 94:Very nice place. Strong wifi, nice outdoor seating area with hammocks, chairs and tables.. due to a delayed flight we missed our first night we booked in the accommodation at informed them only on the night we were meant to arrive, usually hostels will still charge you for this but the owner said not to worry and he wouldn't charge for that night! We arrived the next day. Also you can booK tours there for good prices!
Review 95:I liked everything, good backpackers hotel where you feel almost at home. Location super and very friendly staff, there was a problem but it was immediateley solved.
Review 96:Noisy party in the neighborhood, I hope it was occasional.
Review 97:Very good value for money, very helpful staff. In house organized trips, well equipped kitchen.
Review 98:No wifi in our room (maybe better in the cheaper rooms which are closer to the reception?)
Review 99:Clean basic rooms with hot shower, good location, helpfull and friendly staff: easy to book tours.
Review 100:The only bad thing is that the walls of the rooms are pretty thin, so you can hear everything your neighbours talk about.
Review 101:Really liked this place. The owner is very friendly and tells you what are cheap places to eat. There are hammocks on the patio.
Review 102:Everything was great !
Review 103:A great place to hang out, relax and visit the local spots Very friendly and helpful staff Well designed with areas to meet others An open and spacious feel Close to plenty of eating places and also a very functional kitchen available
Review 104:Noisy rooms as you can hear everything going on in the next room and traffic outside due to location on a main road. Wifi wasn't great but fine for browsing.
Review 105:Francis, comfy beds, tv and DVDs, security, free sandwiches and breakfast.
Review 106:The town itself is not great, but then it is mainly a stopping point for excursions...
Review 107:The man at the reception was very nice. He helped us book tours at competitive prices (we shopped around before settling with him), gave us good advice for the town, was quick to solve any issue... The hostel was clean and highly functional - nice place to meet fellow travellers.
Review 108:There is still some work going on here so right beside our rooms is a building site - work start early - also there are many dogs and cocks close by which woke us up really early
Review 109:Decent room, nice staff, great location
Review 110:All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We arrived there after couple of hours of driving and it was good to just relax in their hammocks and take a hot bath.
Review 111:The kitchen was basic and dirty. Bar behind the hostel was playing very loud music until late at night (way beyond midnight, not fun because you need to get up early for the island tour). I wouldn't stay in the cheap wooden shacks, probably very very noisy and cold. Shared bathrooms and toilets were also dirty.
Review 112:The owner is great! Very helpfull and provides good tours at fair prices, don't bother shopping around. We had a private double ensuite in the back building, really nice and clean room. The location of the hostel is also really good, close to everything.
Review 113:Kitchen is not attractive for cooking but there are many great restaurants nearby.
Review 114:Staff is friendly and helpful. Room was very clean.
Review 115:Great hotel!! Clean rooms. The owner speaks English and is really kind! Definitely stay here!
Review 116:Excellent location. Fairly priced tours and rooms.
Review 117:Construction noise and clutter, toilets not clean
Review 118:Modern rooms, great showers, near beach
Review 119:kitchen is poorly equipped No breakfast
Review 120:Friendly staff Warm showers Good tours
Review 121:Breakfast not provided
Review 122:V helpful staff and good tours offered
Review 123:Helpfull staff, explains how to visit Islas Ballestas and sells trips for a moderate price. Location is very close to port and center.
Review 124:Currently doing building work so noisy in the day but they will be finished soon
Review 125:Very friendly, helpful English speaking owner
Review 126:Found out that the room rate there was cheaper than with booking.com (even with discount)
Review 127:Very nice and clean for a backpacker hostel.
Review 128:Position and very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 129:Too noisy music blasted till 4am next door. No Bueno.
Review 130:I liked location to all the tours. They provide you with whatever you need.
Review 131:wifi not available in our particular room, had to go to lobby area.
Review 132:Excellent price, staff/owners were very nice and helpful. location was good.
Review 133:Staff were hugely friendly and helpful, and the location was very central. Wifi only in communal areas but the rest was fantastic.

Review 135:pretty noisy, and the food wasn t worth for the price
Review 136:i really liked the roof top terrace and staff really friendly
