Reviews for Marivaux Hotel
Review 1:2-3 mins walk to main shopping street, Rue de Neuve. Biggest shopping mall in Brussels, City 2 is just around the corner from the hotel, abt 10mins walk. Good kebab place opposite hotel, halal and open til 2-3am.
Review 2:I have stayed in the hotel many times before, make sure you check out at 11 am or they will call to your room. Room is clean but a bit dusty.
Review 3:Location to walk into the city center is perfect. Breakfast is good, warm and cold. Rooms are spacious
Review 4:Although PVC window frames in our room look renovated, they didn't fit quite well. Anyway the room was warm and comfortable thanks to the good heating system so it's only a matter of energy/cost spendings for the hotel.
Review 5:Everything, good location, excellent staff, good value for money
Review 6:The cleanliness of the hotel is so so....Walking in the fifth floor of the hotel gives an impression of being in a 2 stars hotel. Breakfast , sort of 2 stars style !!
Review 7:I did appreciate the availability of the daily reception desk officers. His name was Yves, I believe.
Review 8:It was much too cold in the room. The temperature can be regulated from the reception. I don't go to the Hotel Marivaux in wintertime again. ( I am in Brussels in every week)
Review 9:Location, the room is comfortable and nice
Review 10:Convenient, central location near mainline train stations (but not too near). Close to shopping malls, cafes, places of interest. Quiet spot. Multilingual staff and very helpful.
Review 11:Only hotel that made me pay before my stay, while I could pick up my invoice after. Bed was ok but expected a bit more from a 4 star hotel.
Review 12:Great breakfast Spacious room
Review 13:They forgot to give me a wake-up call which is in my opinion a basic service at a hotel. The reason I needed this is that there were no adaptors available so I couldn't charge my phone to put my alarm on. In spite of the fact I was terribly late, they couldn't even offer me a takeaway coffee so I completely skipped the breakfast I'd paid extra for. Additionally carpets were stained and bath robe was old and worn out which gave me the impression it wasn't very clean.
Review 14:Location is perfect and it's a reasonably nice hotel
Review 15:At first I was put in a "maiden room". All three windows were fire exits and the view was inner courtyard. The room I got later was ok, just the heating did not work.
Review 16:The location of the hotel, the breakfast, helpful staff when requesting another room.
Review 17:complicated wifi connection (one must try several times to delet the connection settings so that he is ever asked for login name and password)
Review 18:the staff unhesitating and always ready to help
Review 19:Very dated hotel. I am still quite surprised how it achieved such a high review score and 4 stars!
Review 20:Location, however it was difficult to find it with the car navigation!
Review 21:Julian on reception(in need of some training in helping guests) was so engrossed in the computer keyboard and said he was unable to get me a bottle opener at 1520 2/12/15 from the bar as it did not open until 1600.....I walked to the bar and asked the helpful barman who leant me an opener......very dissapointing service for a 4 star hotel......why on earth was he unable to perform this simple request
Review 22:Nice location,staff on arrival,room and breakfast.
Review 23:- Inconceivable in this day and age not to have a bar/restaurant open daily in a 4 star hotel. - Poorest internet connection I've experienced in a hotel. - Bleak, strange atmosphere with lots of dark corridors. Feels like staying in a dungeon not a hotel.
Review 24:Friendly staff
Review 25:We booked up taxi in advance at reception. It was half an hour late and taxi still didnt turn up. Staffs werent that helpful, it seemed like they didnt really care. We had to find taxi ourselves, nearly missed Eurostar train.
Review 26:Very large and clean room compared to the price. You wont get this room size in other tourist cities. Location is good in walking distance to other places.
Review 27:Hotel corridors between rooms smell very bad. Decoration is dull. room is so basic. wifi is not working in 5th floor so I'd to change the room. breakfast is poor. should be cheaper!
Review 28:Very close to shopping area
Review 29:My room was on the 6th floor, and there was no real staircase for the guests to use. So when the cramped elevator had a breakdown there was a major issue getting me down for breakfast and up again.
Review 30:Location is fairly good, and staff is nice (but seemed unprepared for the issue described below - after all a safety issue). Nice breakfast.
Review 31:Sink in the bathroom poorly drained and although we pointed out this fact at reception, they did not fix it during our stay.
Review 32:Perfect location, 10 minutes walking distance from Grand Place. Quiet room.
Review 33:The room was drafty. Although the window frames looked new, cold air was flowing through the room, which resulted in me getting sick after the first night. We completely closed the curtains for the second night, which improved the conditions, but a draft could still be felt.
Review 34:Great location, close to the center and to the North Station. The room provided all necessary utilities. Decent service and good brasserie at the ground floor.
Review 35:The cleanliness of the room and shower was bad. the couch dirty with stains same as carpet in room, the shower was full of other guests hair on the floor and shower cubicle. And the pillows were of low soft quality, didn't give any support
Review 36:The location of the hotel is very good and the size of the room is decent as wel as the big bed
Review 37:After trying nearly every hotel in Brussels, I was surprised at how perfect this hotel is. They seem to have thought of everything a business traveler needs- good wifi, quiet room, comfortable bed, and cleanliness. Simple and good. As a final touch, very nice Nuxe toiletries! I will be back. And cheaper than worse places I usually stay at.
Review 38:Can't remember a staff looking more depressed. Smiling is not an option here. Only the most necessary conversation. Guy looked a bit suspicious every time I passed by the desk. Little reason to, though.
Review 39:Good location, room good enough for the price. View on a wall of an adjacent building 3 meters apart. But who cares if you just want a place to sleep.
Review 40:Although wifi is good it is annoying to enter the login each time. There are many other 3-stars hotels in Brussels. which provide the same options but with less price. Room was small, so it is good just to sleep at night (not working or relaxing).4-stars but no sauna.
Review 41:Good business stay for a few nights. Wifi is stable at any place of the hotel. Perfect location, walking distance to Nord r/w station and shopping street.
Review 42:I stayed at the same hotel two weeks ago and got a room directly facing a wall. I made a remark about this in my booking on booking.com and got this time a fantastic, spacious room. Thanks to booking.com and to the hotel! The staff was also much friendlier than during the previous stay. Coffee/tea in room, bathrobe, nice bathroom, very spacious room.
Review 43:Maybe just a tad overpriced.
Review 44:Nice hotel, nice room, and friendly, helpful staff. The maintenance man that set up our pack and play for our baby to sleep in provided excellent customer service. Comfortable bed. Clean, modern bathroom with separate room for toilet. Very close to the metro. Good location
Review 45:I have stayed in this hotel many times and I really like it. However this time the quality of breakfast was not very good - it seems as the hotel started to use less quality products - you could definetly feel it.
Review 46:I didnt really like that the room window was very small and it was facing a wall, so the light was very poor...
Review 47:The room was very nice and spacious and clean, with a bathroom that has everything you need.
Review 48:Deluxe room - Dirty bed sheets!!! Hair and stains in the bed. It was in the middle of the night that we arrived in our room and discovered it, we therefore removed the sheets ourselves and discoverd an even dirtier mattress underneath! We complained at the reception at checkout, except from a tiny appoligy got no reaction on my complaint! Breakfast (€15) : poor service, took ages to get some coffee, No regular refill of bread/croissants etc. Not going back there.
Review 49:- WiFi connection was very bad and had very limited coverage, most of the time impossible to use. Even after we informed at the reception, there was nothing done to improve the situation. - staff working during breakfast was uninterested and does not know how to offer a service. Without initiative to clean the tables or to ask if you want some coffee. - electricity shut down often and for long periods during the evening
Review 50:- Location
Review 51:It's very near the North station within 10 minutes' walk. The room is very spaceful. Toilet and bathroom are separate. There is shopping street parallel to its street.
Review 52:Wifi was poor
Review 53:The staff were lovely and helpful , our room was very comfortable and clean ,breakfast was delicious and available till mid morning and parking was made easy with the help of staff. Would stay again and recommend to friends :-)
Review 54:Shower wouldn't work on first night. We were given room change immediately at no extra cost. Top service
Review 55:Central clean friendly hotel. Very nice staff
Review 56:Sturdy staff, room with window facing wall, hole in bathroom ceiling + water damage, old fashioned furniture, breakfast room without windows.
Review 57:Coffee & tea in room, big room, quiet, nice gym, good choice at breakfast, well located
Review 58:Minor things: The pressure on the shower could have been higher + the wifi did not work on my iPad but that might have been due to other security figurations
Review 59:Great location right next to the Rogier metro station and close to the North Station with direct trains to the airport - Good and plentiful breakfast - cleanliness - nice toiletries
Review 60:I did not like that staff of the hotel could not issue a bill for my stay separately from my colleaque - it was stupid. I am travelling a lot and at any hotel I managed to get such receipt. The staff explained that their system does not allow them to issue receipt for the hald of the amount because I shared a room with my colleaque. it was dissapointing.
Review 61:everything was excellent
Review 62:The parking was not part of the standard hotel services.
Review 63:The stuff was extra supportive. The facilities was great. The location was just 10' from the Grand Place via a main shopping road. Metro station was 3' by feet
Review 64:It did not impact my stay, but the hotel staff should pay closer attention to the cleanliness of details and space not directly exposed to visitors. For example: rust on the taps and dirt on the reception office equipment. These ARE visible to guests and spoil the overall good impression of this 4* hotel.
Review 65:Very good location - walking distance to Brussels Nord and Grand Place. A comfortable, well equipped room (including a coffee machine & kettle).
Review 66:No Dutch spoken at reception. Room very dark, hardly any daylight, lamps didn't work, so it was difficult to read or look at a map.
Review 67:Good location, near city centre. Very friendly staff at the reception.
Review 68:Room was poorly lighted - no central light, not good for reading. Lack of beer in the fridge. The service changes towels daily despite the information that only towels put on the floor will be replaced.
Review 69:Fairly equipped room - bathrobe, tea set, big comfortable bed, quiet room. pretty good choice for breakfast.
Review 70:The first reception staff I had met when I arrived was very good. Subsequently, the rest were average. I had requested for a non-corner room and received confirmation that the hotel was able to accede to my request prior to my arriving in Brussels. When I checked in, I had also reminded the reception of this and the staff confirmed. However, much to my dismay, it was a corner room.
Review 71:Location, spacious room
Review 72:Wifi a bit tricky to connect, and not working sometimes. Coffee for breakfast was really bad. And it's also bad that you have to be asking for it everytime. Check in time is too late at 15, and check out time too early at 11.
Review 73:Great location. Walking distance to many places, and the metro really close. Very good breakfast. Comfortable bed, big room with tea/coffee facilities.
Review 74:Just at the arrival I had to change room twice because I did not like the location.but then all was ok
Review 75:Excellent and profissional staff. Very good breakfast but I left sunday morning at seven restaurent was not open yet so I've missed breakfast that usually was starting at 06:30.
Review 76:WiFi connection was sometimes problematic and the speed of it was not satisfactory, but usually it worked well.
Review 77:A very friendly Staff, helpful and ready to assist. I was able to check in a few hours before the usual check in time which was great. Thank you !
Review 78:Didn't like the separated bathroom and shower but that was no big deal.
Review 79:The staff are so nice and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and quite . I would stay here again. And its right on shopping street
Review 80:Nothing so specific to report.
Review 81:Everything was good. Near to city center. Grand place is 15 min walk. The room was big and the bed was so comfortable. Worth for its price.
Review 82:WiFi was a bit weak, and the room a bit small (I have used the hotel before, and got a much nicer room then). The lifts are small, few, and at times very crowded.
Review 83:The fitness room is very good. Personell is helpful. The next door brasserie serves good food at a reasonable price.
Review 84:At the time of my stay the road in front of the hotel was very silent due to the city's introduction of a pedestrian zone. I liked the balcony and the bed was very good. Walking distance to railway station North and connection to direct metro line to EU quarter
Review 85:Sink stop in bathroom not working, reported to reception for fixing. Corridors too dark with dark red and low lighting, looks dated.
Review 86:Hotel nicely location in city center, walking distance from Brussels Grand Place. Nice reception area.
Review 87:Not applicable.
Review 88:The Marivaux was a perfect hotel for my visit to Brussels. A classy hotel in a great neighbourhood within easy walking distance of the Main train station and even closer to Grand Place.
Review 89:WiFi is slow, and disconnects after 2 minutes not using, need to sign in again and again, which is very annoying.
Review 90:Everything is good enough, apart from WiFi
Review 91:I didn't received any notification as my hotel is changed. Thon hotel charged me security deposit despite I have already paid for hotel which is still not transfer to my account
Review 92:Good alternate was provided to us as they hotel unable to provide us rooms due to damage happened in water sanitation but hotel management booked us room in Thon Hotel
Review 93:- No Wifi: The first night I stayed in a small room where the wifi wasn't working and I had to get some work done before going to bed. Therefore I had to connect my cellphone to the 4G network in roaming because the hotel attendent could change my room before the arrival of his boss the following day... - Rooms: the room I stayed in the first night was small and the bathroom was literally a foot away from my bed making me feel like I was sleeping in the bathroom itself; the second night I have been moved to another room with a decent wifi connection; even though the room was bigger it smelled quite bad.. Overall it wasn't a great experience
Review 94:Location
Review 95:Nothing - it was a great stay.
Review 96:Great hotel and a FANTASTIC value. Great location and everything you could hope for in a hotel at a very affordable price.
Review 97:No fridge / Minibar.
Review 98:Decent location, 15 min walk from the Grand Place. Large rooms, ours had a separate shower and bath, and a separate toilet.
Review 99:My car was broken into inside of the hotel's underground car park. Hotel's manager, William Yang, asked not to engage the police, assuring that all damages would be payed by the insurance company: we just need to get an official estimate for repairs. After month of calls and emails nothing is done and they simply ignore us now.
Review 100:Nothing.
Review 101:The breakfast. But perhaps that's my fault. One cannot beat the type of Irish breakfast that one gets in,say, The Knockranny House Hotel Westport or The Meadowlands Hotel Tralee.Relaxed
Review 102:Restful, quiet, good air-conditioning, good dinner in restaurant, nice staff.
Review 103:We brought a bottle of local beer to try but it had a cork in it. When we asked for a bottle opener we were told we had to go to the brasserie to have it opened, which was fine - except the person tending bar laughed at me when I asked for glasses, as if it was rude for me to inquire. I didn't mean to offend him, and as we were paying guests I felt his behaviour was a little unjustified. We would have happily stayed in the bar for a drink if it wern't for that.
Review 104:Great location, air-con in room, and we were allowed a late check-out which was amazing!
Review 105:Free Wifi was great but had to log in every time we got back to hotel
Review 106:Room was spacious and the Nespresso machine was a bonus, staff were very helpful and courteous
Review 107:Minor complaints: 1. We had to ask for a second bath towel (since there were two of us in the room) on two occasions. The house keeping only left us with one two when she cleaned the room. 2. The shower water never got very warm but it was manageable.
Review 108:Great location to Brussels North train station and Metro. 10 minute walk to the Grand Place. Very friendly staff.
Review 109:The AC in my room didn't seem to be working.
Review 110:The breakfast was excellent! Loved the scrambled eggs, bacon, coffee, cheeses, bread, fruit, everything.
Review 111:Nothing!
Review 112:Massive Room, huge bed, very clean, lovely staff, coffee machine in room, bath and shower, centrally located within walking distance to grand place
Review 113:Arrived early. Was asked to return at 1:30pm for check in. Waited until 3:20pm before my room was ready. No adjustments were made to accommodate me. Staff were nonchalant about this. Room assigned was next door to staff room. Was noisy. Could hear staff talking loudly, slamming doors. Requested for a taxi night before my departure. The front desk staff forgot to make the request. I ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes after check out for a taxi. Missed my train to London. Made an otherwise ok experience horrible. Not even an apology from the front desk.
Review 114:Great location. 10 minute walk to Gare du Nord train station.
Review 115:The breakfast was disappointing compared with other hotels of the same * rating. And there were a few chipped plates.
Review 116:Excellent service from the staff.
Review 117:no bad experiences and quite a long walk to the lift past the international convention rooms
Review 118:enormous very comfortable quiet bedroom and huge bathroom. will definitely use again when in Brussels. strongly recommend hotel for comfort and value but unusual layout. hotel was converted from cinema and is more a convention center.
Review 119:Poor breakfast. For a 4 star hotel you expect more variety. My room was in the second floor. I used elevator to go up but my room was in a location that I had to pass 5 steps! Was so difficult to carry the suitcases with those steps.
Review 120:Location was very good.
Review 121:The only disadvantage in the room was the carpet which was old and need renew.
Review 122:Room was big and bathroom was separated from the toilet which was advantage. The room was very quiet and I didn't hear the street at all. Location was near the shopping street. The stuff was welling to help and smile. Breakfast had tons of variety
Review 123:The shape of the room was very weird and not very comfortable to move around, especially with large bags. The kettle was in an alcove without an electric socket, so we had to move it to make tea. The only parking option at the hotel is valet parking - and this is not written in the hotel info at Booking.com. We didn't know this, and their parking appeared closed at first sight.
Review 124:Good location, clean rooms, comfortable bed, the breakfast was OK.
Review 125:Every time you want to connect to its wifi, it requires you to enter username and password, which is not convenient
Review 126:Amazing hotel, great location, not expensive but has a really large space and really comfortable, staff was really nice and helpful. It's my first time to rate a hotel in booking, just for this great hotel
Review 127:Why do they have shower doors that open outwards so the floor gets drenched when you open it?
Review 128:Great location and great room. Very spacious room with large bathroom. TV had BBC1, 2 and 3 and the BBC news channel. Bed was huge and a delight to sleep on. Good shower. Can't fault it. Concierge parked my car for me and brought it back when leaving. Free Wi-Fi that actually works in the room
Review 129:I did not like the decoration of the rooms, the carpets and the narrow corridors. It made me feel a little scared at the beginning.
Review 130:Great staff, clean rooms, good location.
Review 131:none
Review 132:Room was clean, shower was functional which oddly is not so obvious in many hotels in Brussels. And air condition. I can't stress how glad I was for having AC in my room
Review 133:The average standard of the room was poorer than I expected. Small room. I stayed here in the winter and paid more or less the same price and then got a fabulous room. The room I got this time was not good value price-quality. Problems with shower in the room. Problems also to open the door with a too much used key card.
Review 134:The location of the hotel and the effort of personal service that some of the hotel staff made.
Review 135:Good location near shopping, walking distance to the Grand Place, and Rogier metro (where there is a Starbucks if you need it) Room is clean and quiet. The A/C works great and there is a little fridge where you can store your goodies in. Nice big bed with good linens. Also valet parking at reasonable price for Brussels
Review 136:My room was on the 1st floor and it was a bit creepy getting there and the hallway to my room, the walls and floor were dirty. The room wasn't really nice. The bathroom was ok. The good thing was it was a room to the main street.
Review 137:It was really good situated
Review 138:The only thing I did not like was the heavy quilt.
Review 139:It is in the centre of the town, in a walking distance to the most important sites. Although it is on a busy street, you cannot hear the street noise due to the well insulated windows. The staff was very friendly, there was a good choice at breakfast and strong coffee was served in small coffee pots. I was happy to have fast wifi.
Review 140:Többször voltam a szállodában, de óriási csalódás, hogy folyamatosan romlik a színvonal, ami elsősorban a tisztaság esetén problémás. Nem lesz több foglalásom náluk.
Review 141:Csak az elhelyezkedése jó.
The Fine Print
