Reviews for Hotel Caribe Merida Yucatan
Review 1:We enjoyed the hotel for its antiquity and charm and very well kept property. It blends with the 474 year old city history. We liked the view of the Church Bell Towers and the proximity to everything, great location, in the center of town, however it remains very secluded from the activities on the street. Service was excellent. We walked everywhere and returned to a very secluded room, where all we will hear would be the bells from the church at the plaza. The plaza where the hotel is located is very pretty and at night there are vendors and music and has excellent restaurants across the street from it, or near it. It is on the street 1/2 away from the main plaza and few blocks from other plazas (Santa Lucia and Santa Anna) and "Museo de Archeology" and not far from the Mayan Museum. We will return to Merida and we will stay at Hotel Caribe/Merida.
Review 2:The hotel is somber and dark. The staff were sullen and disingenuous. The swimming pool featured yellow water. The place is soulless. I could not wait to leave.
Review 3:Nothing.
Review 4:There was not reservation for us and they try to give us any room that was going to be available. We were shown 2 different rooms, from bad to worse. Both were very dark, small and dirty and in the second floor without elevator. After a long wait we took a room in the main floor. Cockroaches as big as my thumb where crawling in the room. The only good experience was having breakfast served by Alfonso.
Review 5:The location
Review 6:Rooms very small and extremely noisy. Light from the outside corridor was not blocked with curtains or shades, making it hard to sleep at night.
Review 7:Friendliness of people in the hotel restaurant
Review 8:The rooms were on the smaller side, but since we didn't spend much time at the hotel, this was not an issue for us.
Review 9:We absolutely loved the Spanish style and the location of the hotel, just a block away from the main downtown square. Because the rooms were all towards the center courtyard of the hotel, they were very quiet (despite the central location). Great restaurant on the premises as well! Newly remodeled bathrooms, too! Would definitely stay there again.
Review 10:Very low water flush in bathroom and rooms very close to the swimming pool could be noisy at night.
Review 11:Awesome central location but quiet at the same time in a lovely square in the center of a busy Merida.
Review 12:The room was not the one we booked. The hot water in the bathroom was not hot. The wifi signal in the room was weak. The food was average, we've had there one dinner and a breakfast and at payment there has been a mandatory tip added by the staff. The pool water was not too clean.
Review 13:Nice colonial building, in a great central position. The parking lot is at one block distance and it's free for hotel clients.
Review 14:I stayed in Room 60 and the wifi would not reach all the way to the room, so we had to come out of our room and sit by the hallway in order to get signal. The other thing is that the bathroom would not flush as it seemed that the water level was low.
Review 15:What I best like is the location of the hotel as it was very close to the city's main Square and the friendliness of all the staff there, and the hotel was very clean. The hotel is very beutiful colonial building.
Review 16:Perfect location to historical center. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were clean and newly decorated. Breakfast was very pleasant and worth the money!
Review 17:The water pressure was too poor. One day we didn't have hot water, they went to check other roomd and it didn't worked and even after this they didn't change us of room. It's the only negative thing I saw at the hotel.
Review 18:The location was amazing.
Review 19:The hotel structure is grand and beautiful. However it could improve if renovated. An elevator would be great. Air con works one day and then it doesn't. However I was offered a new room or a fan. Not the staff's fault.
Review 20:Rosy in reception is an asset to this hotel. Her English is good and nothing is too much trouble. In fact all the staff are professionals with a human touch even though they don't speak English, and are non intrusive. The hotel is well located and the garden architecture is amazing.
Review 21:Wi-fi didn't work in rooms, but hey, on vacation you should be OFF your phones anyway right? When I needed to check emails and such I had no problem walking right outside of the door.
Review 22:Everyone so nice and helpful. Location so close to many points of interest and AMAZING food. Went to Merida unexpected, but so glad I got to experience it!
Review 23:The hotel was having some serious transformations going on during the stay. It would be unfair to make any comments since easily half of the hotel was out of action.
Review 24:Excellent location: the rooftop pool is a life-saver in the Yucatan heat.
Review 25:No hot water! Dirty due to half of the hotel in rebuilding and this was not notified in your booking.com web page! Bad reception service , bathroom of bad quality, swimming pool not usable due to dust... We want our money back
Review 26:the place was dirty, the stairs wand hallway covered in dust from the on going construction. We hadn't been inform before arriving here. Once we checked in the reception said "we are renovating the other side of the building!! " couldn't bail or anything. We had to walk and carry dust to our room. On the evening my husband saw One of the staff (security) slept during his shift in a place where anyone can easily access to because there is a mini parque and handicraft sellers sold their stuff outside. The room was way too far from being called a hotel, the poor water system; there were 2 taps in the shower but only one worked, when you tried to open another the working one stopped and the water didn't hardly come! The a/c was too cold and made noise like helicopter the whole night. I might be put in a very bad conditioned room anyway I wasn't enjoy my stay at all!
Review 27:The only thing I liked about the hotel was its location.
Review 28:Only one thing! The AC is loud. I had read this thinking how loud can it be? But was surprised. It's like a plane taking off!HINT: don't let this put you off this fantastic hotel. After the first night we pushed our bedside cabinet up against the centre of the AC and this stopped the shuddering. Peaceful sleep for next two nights!
Review 29:We are two girls travelling together and we felt very safe, though still with wits about us.The hotel was simply beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice. It's immaculately clean, the staff are friendly, the beds so comfy. The pool perfect for a cool down. The location is ideal, bang in centre and just off a large courtyard. I heard nothing from the streets. Views from hotel caribe of cathedral day or night are stunning. Locals are very friendly and will approach to ask you where you have been and advise you where to go. We were wary at first but they just want to keep tourists coming to the town so are excited to share information and history with you.
Review 30:the rooms were very small and a little noisy in the mornings. Staff were a bit grumpy.
Review 31:great location and the building is lovely colonial Spanish with a great central courtyard. Location very central although surrounding area is quite expensive. Nice pool.
Review 32:Our room was next to the pool and we could hear everything that went on at the pool. People were swimming late at night and talking and smoking. We had to ask them twice to quiet down. The pool closed at 8 o'clock and people were there till after midnight smoking and talking. The walls of our room were super thin and the smoke came in through the shutters and the gaps in the door. The shower barely emitted water and it was either cold or hot. Nothing in between. As I was drying myself a cockroach the size of my thumb crawled into the bathroom. The toast for breakfast was pieces of bread that were put on the grill and were just warmed up slices of bread. I asked for eggs over easy and they came over hard. Everything was run down. The closet rods and shelves were filthy.Maybe other rooms were better but not ours. We had to pay cash up front before we even saw the room. Not impressed.
Review 33:The location was great. TV was great with CNN in English. A/C worked fine. Free overnight parking.
Review 34:Wi-fi did not work within the room? Only common areas. Air conditioning in room did not have a thermostat?
Review 35:I am not in Merida to spend time in a hotel room... Caribe is centrally located making community events and most activities, shops, and cafes easily accessible and within walking distance.
Review 36:There were obvious signs of wear and tear, so not a great choice for someone expecting all the perfect comforts. But it was great for us, who didnt mind the tepid showers while visiting Mexico.
Review 37:The hotel itself is really beautiful architecturally. I love the colors and the view of the cathedral from the pool. It was also quiet for being smack in the middle of the old city, because of the way it was set back from the street. The pool was very cool and refreshing.
Review 38:The shower heads seemed to be clogged and the water just trickled out. The bath rooms are not set up for tall people.
Review 39:Locatioof pool was excellent, the view was great. Lovely place to relax after a day in the city. Rosie was very helpful.
Review 40:The rooms are inconsistent in terms of the comfort of the beds. Some mattresses are covered in plastic, some are not, some are hard, some are good, some of the casement type windows open right over the bed. The "double beds" are quite small -- hardly suitable for two people so if you are a couple look for a room with two beds.
Review 41:Great location. Lovely rooftop view. Very pretty patio restaurant . Love the courtyard fountain. We liked this hotel and would go back.
Review 42:Water pressure was terrible, like really terrible but we could have requested to be moved to a different room but we didn't bother.
Review 43:Roomy space, nice lobby, beautiful pool area to sit at night, great view, very clean.
Review 44:The room was basic. It did not have a lot of space and it did not seem well maintained. The wifi in our room was sporadic. Some of the reception staff seemed disinterested in our queries or did not understand. the breakfast was ordinary although the breakfast staff were very attentive.
Review 45:This hotel was in a good position. It was close to the centre of the city. One of the older employees lifted my suitcase of 25 kgs onto his shoulder and carried it up three flights of stairs.
Review 46:Nothing, a great value.
Review 47:Situated on a small plaza with restaurants all around and a half block from the main square. Lots of entertainment, venders and people
Review 48:The rooms are very '70s in their decor, and basic. The beds are fine, but not the most comfortable ever. Shower was fine but water pressure and hot water just so so. The rooms are completely utilitarian, but we had a lovely 2 night stay. I've been to other hotels in a similar price range around Mexico and this one far supercedes the norm.
Review 49:The hotel is an old college for monks from the adjacent cathedral. So the building is centuries old and historical, yet very clean and well maintained. The rooms overlook a lovely interior courtyard, and there's a small rooftoop pool and patio overlooking the cathedral dome. The location is magical, on Hildalgo Square in the center, and the staff are extremely helpful and welcoming, particularly the bellman Raul. They serve breakfast in the courtyard and the wifi is dependable and free. There's parking nearby which is free overnight and < $10 per day. The price is excellent for the level of amenities and location.
Review 50:Very unfriendly at the reception. They hardly answer when u ask something. No wifi in the rooms. Only at the lobby. I didn't like the hotel at all
Review 51:Just location
Review 52:The hotel is run down, with cracks beyween tiles in shower, taps not working, weared out looks, smell grom suwage, etc. The whole building need to be redone!
Review 53:Very friendly and helpful staff Great location In principle the ambience had it not been for it being so run down
Review 54:I did not like that the front desk looks really outdated, it doesn't match with the rest of the hotel, I thought it made it look cheap and the concierges are not very friendly. Their wifi doesn't work. The pool did not look clean, the water was murky but the view from there is mesmerizing.
Review 55:The location is excellent, right in the heart of downtown but far from the noise. The architecture of the hotel is beautiful, probably from the 1600's.
Review 56:Don't expect a newly built hotel, it's quite 'old-fashioned' one, but stylish with it's inner garden. All of the room's windows are facing to the inner corridor. Rooms are quite 'simple' furnished. Bathroom is tiny and not very clean at all.
Review 57:The hotel has a great location (city centre)with a great view to the cathedral from the top floor's corridor.
Review 58:Arrangement of shower, toilet and sink was a bit weird
Review 59:Great location, staff very friendly. Highlight for us was the rooftop pool with an amazing view of the cathedral
Review 60:very nice colonial architecture, authentic design, splendid roof view of the cathedral. Comfortable and clean, very centrally located, close to everything. If you come by ADO bus you can book a safe taxi at the counter in the ADO station, so no worries about getting there even late at night.
Review 61:Shower leaked everywhere, air conditioner was very loud, staff barely acknowledged us, hotel laundry service is expensive - go to a local place instead, we had breakfast in the hotel once, and the service there was very poor as well! I would recommend staying elsewhere!
Review 62:The room was ok, for size and cleanliness
Review 63:awful coffee
Review 64:location , seated area in busy pedestrian courtyard with market,100 metres to central town square with cathedral , sunday market and entertainment.lovely quiet internal courtyard gardens and rooftop pool. simple clean rooms around the cloister like gardens
Review 65:Getting to and from the hotel in your own car can be a bit hectic, and parking is only available at standard rates two blocks away (about 100 pesos a day).
Review 66:Centrally located. Friendly staff. Hotel restaurant was decent for breakfast. Rooms are a bit small, but the atmosphere is pleasant.
Review 67:We requested a crib way beforehand, and upon arrival they had given it to somebody else, and we booked there for that reason. They upgraded the room to compensate. Poor WiFi.
Review 68:Location and facilities were really good
Review 69:Noisy guests near the poolarea at night kept us awake. If you like a more quite room, don't stay close to the pool.
Review 70:The nice little swimmingpool on the top floor was excellent. The location, near the central plaza of Merida was also a big assett. The atmosphere of the building was also nice.
Review 71:I am used to the storms of th Yucatan, but unfortunately the ceining above the door leaked for a short time during the rain. I put down a bath towel and it dried quickly. So minor to me that I forgot to mention it at check out.
Review 72:I have stayed twice before and like it's location. Next to the Gran Hotel and the Main Square and Cathedral. I was there on Sunday which fills with vendors and music. Staff welcoming and very helpful. Will return and highly reccomend for the history and beauty of this hotel which was once a seminary.
Review 73:Feels like in à nonnery...
Review 74:Great location, beautiful building
Review 75:We stayed in the high season so it wasn't great value for what we paid and breakfast was not included
Review 76:Roof top pool
Review 77:Very small room. Air Conditioner facing the bed.
Review 78:Excellent location. 20minites walk to ADO bus terminal
Review 79:Really wonderful location, quiet, comfy bed, beautiful building and a rooftop pool - all for a reasonable price.
Review 80:airco made terible noise and dripping into the room when turne off
Review 81:location and the pool on the roof
Review 82:Poor Wi-Fi signal, parking spots to far from hotel.
Review 83:Staff very friendly, from walking steps to the main plaza, great view.
Review 84:They said they hadn't received our booking from you and therefore had no rooms for us.
Review 85:Beds r not soft. Clean and decent rooms.
Review 86:Location.
Review 87:Wifi unavailable in rooms
Review 88:Great location
Review 89:The pool was never cleaned. The breakfast looked good but was a rip off.
Review 90:Great location. Great view of the sunsets by the pool.
Review 91:Very small room, shower the size of a closet. Left after one night.
Review 92:Nice location in center.
Review 93:The staff was not friendly, the rooms are what you pay for, but the rooms were clean.
Review 94:Loved the location and the property. The rooms were small and average.
Review 95:Restaurant toilet was dirty.
Review 96:the building the rooms on the first floor the location
Review 97:The bathroom are a little old
Review 98:Perfect place, just downtown, great pool
Review 99:Poor room service, very noisy and weak wifi
Review 100:Excellent location and confortable
Review 101:No waiter service to tables in the plaza and so you could not run a tab. Poor coffee. Price of the breakfast was the same as 5* hotel next door and yet it could not compare in quality or taste.
Review 102:fantastic location in the city with the entrance on a lovely plaza. Great roof top pool.
Review 103:The wi fi did not work all the time which made it very difficult to stay in touch with family. The food in the restaurant was just ok.
Review 104:Great location, the hotel is beautiful with character. The hotel was clean and the maids did an excellent job cleaning my room.
Review 105:Room was spartan and the toilet did not work. Front desk would not change room when asked, so, the maid came with a plunger every time the toilet needed flushing and eventually just left the plunger in the bathroom!
Review 106:Due to lack of English, had some problems with parking. You have to ask for the wifi password. No airconditioning or fan.
Review 107:Right in the heart of historic Merida, this is a charming hotel with alot of character. Nice pool on rooftop with a great view of the cathedral. Very good price.
Review 108:You aren't able to charge meals to your room, and the swimming pool was empty of water so we weren't able to use it.
Review 109:The location was excellent and the lovely old colonial buildimg
Review 110:We had made the booking a long time in advance but when we arrived theydid not have a room for us the first night of our stay and sent us toanother hotel close by for the first night. The other hotel was great,so it turned out to be a minor inconvenience.
Review 111:We had a room on the second floor at the side with the wide balcony (theother side doesn't). We had a sofa outside our room where we couldrelax overlooking the great courtyard.
Review 112:The toilet, and the room were very very old, which was quite annoying
Review 113:The location was fantastic, near the cathedral, and the historic center. The hotel itself is very beautiful and quiet, with colonial architecture and good restaurant.
Review 114:Exceptionally surly desk staff. No hot water. No ice.
Review 115:Great location, right downtown but quiet inside. Lovely old building, all rooms open onto courtyard open to the sky. Very clean.
Review 116:Despite I booked in advance they didn't have any reservation to me.So they given me a dirty and smelly room, the only left. They told me Iwould had payed less, but they made me pay the same rate instead. Dirtyand unfair.
Review 117:Breakfast and waiters.
Review 118:Internet was hit or miss, bed uncomfortable, and room was dark.
Review 119:Location and price
