Reviews for Hotel Museu

Review 1:WIFI did not extend to our room, had to go to the lobby. Breakfast did not amaze, but was not bad either.

Review 2:The suite was definitely worth the upgrade, for few dollars more we got spacious room with tranquillising views of river and city. Stood by the window and enjoyed the view. Living in a museum, though a small one, was very fun experience.

Review 3:Excellent location: easy to find, all main attractions are easy to reach on foot and there was a fantastic view of the bridge on the Guadiana river from the room. María Paula was very helpful about what to visit, history of the place, restaurants, etc. Comfortable room and nice breakfast.

Review 4:There was no fridge in the room

Review 5:The room was lovey. There were plenty of spaces to sit inside and out. Highly recommend the boat trip down the river. Very interesting town to visit and staff at the hotel were very helpful

Review 6:A pool would have been nice but with the river in front no big loss

Review 7:Quiet and peacefull, friendly to the max staff, and nature on your doorstep whatelse can you ask for

Review 8:It would be good to have a fridge in the room to keep things in. One of the staff members could do better. The breakfast was OK but not super.

Review 9:The owner and staff were fantastic, particularly Daniel and Paula. There was a problem with our booking (made by another member of staff) and they were very helpful and reasonable when resolving it. The wi fi was fine.

Review 10:Dissppointed no balcony. Breakfsst was just ok.

Review 11:The location! The view of river outstanding. Easy uphill walk to castle and restaurants. Nice terrace for breakfast.

Review 12:The hotel is at the bottom of the town, close to the river, which means "everything is uphill from the hotel". Once you figure out the "hillside staircases", getting to the main street and the walled old town was quite simple. If on the ground floor, don't leave anything out with a sweet odor. They get tiny ants that can get in through the most minute space.

Review 13:Lovely suite, well-configured, nice view over the river, excellent breakfast and safe car parking.

Review 14:Rooms not sound proof, with noise from outside guests in the patio until late at night and very early in the morning from staff talking to people at the entrance of the hotel. Hotel publicises that it has WiFi but this did not work at all. Staff didn't know or care. The buffet breakfast was an experience beyond belief. The restaurant was in full darkness (nobody switched on the lights) and there was not enough food for the guests queueing at 8:00 am to have breakfast. Had to fight a crowd of Spanish to get hold of 2 slices of bread and a couple of slices of melon. There was nothing else left on the buffet and there was no reposition of food. Complained at the reception on checkout but was still charged 6 Euro for the breakfast!

Review 15:The location is superb by the river and the historical centre. This is a new building with very nice rooms and bathrooms, only let down by the fact that the rooms are absolutely not sound proof. If you are unlucky to stay in the rooms above the reception, like I did, then besides noisy guests, the staff also talks loudly and you can hear it on the rooms above.

Review 16:Breakfast limited by my preference Staff somewhat tardy

Review 17:Good modern hotel Owner very helpful Good location overlooking river Room maintenance very good

Review 18:hard bed, no wifi although it was promised in the booking, no free coffee or tea, no sound insulation between rooms, incomplete an narrow bathroom

Review 19:Cleanliness

Review 20:Nothing to report

Review 21:A good location with lovely views from the room over the river valley. A bit of a slog uphill to the old town but worth it. The archaeological site middle in the hotel was a truly delightful novelty.

Review 22:Staff did their job, but could be little more cheerful!

Review 23:Excellent location, interesting museum of archeolgical findings. Nice suite, with good views from balcony. Good breakfast.. Excellent value for money.

Review 24:Had to run water for 3 minutes for the hot to come through...felt wasteful.

Review 25:Reception staff helpful 5pm boat trip from just outside Go for the suite, worth the bit extra Good breakfast

Review 26:My husband is disabled and uses a mobility scooter. This hotel was easy to get around and the staff went over and beyond helping us both. The room was super comfortable and he was able to get around easily. Thank you!

Review 27:Our bathroom in room 202 though very clean and modern had a leak from both wash basin and toilet baseon to tiled floor. \We informed the receptionist of this so hopefully they will not allocate this room until it is repaired!

Review 28:Staff very friendly and breakfast more than adequate.

Review 29:too many dogs in the town who bark a lot at night

Review 30:this sleepy town, Mertola has a lot going for it, museums, archaeology, river activites, some good restaurants ( Brasileiro) nearby beach at San Domingo. This hotel is a little feeling of luxury at budget prices. heard from some locals that the Islamic festival in May makes the town feel like a mini Marrakesh.

Review 31:Difficult (if not impossible) to find the hotel once you enter Mertola with a Sat Nav because of narrow on way streets. Follow the brown direction signs round the town!

Review 32:An amazing town - full of interest and typically Portuguese.

Review 33:TV malfunction and light were all connected to same switch. Room had a nice view to the river witch we payed for, but also had no privacy because it was side turned to the city also and there were better rooms in the hotel.

Review 34:Location, cleanliness, museum and staff

Review 35:Reception was slow to check in or ask questions as reception was also for the accommodation next door. Breakfast was poor in quantity and quality. No seats available when we went to eat. No lift to higher floors.

Review 36:Location was good and if you paid extra you could have a river view. Staff were polite and mostly helpful.

Review 37:Was waiting 30 minutes for someone to came back to the reception desk and I didn't got even simple "sorry for waiting". Breakfast is really basic.

Review 38:It was clean and modern room and bathroom. Nice view to the river and balcony with 2 seats. Comfortable, calm, relaxing.

Review 39:Receptionist kept us waiting nearly 15 minutes to book in, while she explained the location of restaurants and sights to guests who booked in ahead of us. Very small communal seating area inside the hotel. Breakfast quite limited.

Review 40:Lovely outside terrace, shaded in the afternoon, overlooking the river and with views to the town. Modern hotel with clean, well furnished rooms and bathrooms.

Review 41:Very hard bed

Review 42:Excellent location close to Old Town Interesting ruins in lobby Helpful staff Clean & modern

Review 43:Good location. Adequate parking. Interesting archaeological dig in hotel foyer. Good value for money. Would certainly use this hotel again.

Review 44:no fridge

Review 45:central Location, balcony with view over river

Review 46:Tranquility and views of the river

Review 47:Bed rather firm.

Review 48:Great view from balcony. Lovely town. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 49:Wifi, no elevator.

Review 50:?

Review 53:Excelente local que nos permite descansar.

Review 54:requested one gluten free breakfast not provided and when queried told "none"

Review 55:welcome was good quality of room excellent for price

Review 56:Internet signal very pour in the suite No 105 and no shampoo or shower gel replenish after first night of staying.

Review 57:good staff

Review 58:Very good service, new hotel - recommended

Review 59:Lack of elevator

Review 60:-

Review 61:clean, quiet rooms with a beautiful view

Review 62:Small room

Review 63:Great location close to the Castle and the town

Review 64:modern hotel handy for the town. Good bathroom and shower. Nice views overlooking the river.

Review 65:Poor breakfast compared to other hotels No wifi in rooms

Review 66:Location above the river Unusual hall with arab ruins

Review 67:Nothing really.

Review 68:Everything was perfect.

Review 69:Beyond the desk staff were not welcoming, almost as if customers didn't exist!!!!

Review 70:Excellent view and basement museum

Review 71:There wasn't a lift and the breakfast were very poor

Review 72:Wonderful location

Review 73:General ambience, great breakfasts, comfortable beds, new equipment, perfect cleanliness, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 74:Location is excellent . The Hotel is clean & modern and staff are helpful. There are some great restaurants nearby and very inexpensive .

Review 75:Poor wifi coverage in the room (203) which forces us to go the Reception area to access the internet.

Review 76:The location. The museum under the Reception.

Review 77:Mosquitoes, due to our fault: lights on and windows open, for a little while, against the advice of the staff! Of course, there was an air conditioner!

Review 78:Overall quality, location. Recomended.

Review 79:Trying hard to find something

Review 80:Lovely riverview wher I could watchthe gaots come down the oppiste bank for their morning drink, a black stork patrol the river and swarms of swifts looking for their first meal of the day. Comfy room. Good wifi access. Close to village centre

Review 81:Had to call down for hot water to be put on for my early morning shower. It didn't take long to heat up once I asked; and it was early!

Review 82:Friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast (really good coffee) view sublime. a good place to be for a walk around Mertola. Don't miss the Pula de Lobo Falls.

Review 83:Not enough shelves to put personal items in the bathroom. No bath in the suite, and hot water not always available - I had to ask at reception twice about the lack of it and it was sorted out on each occasion. Breakfast was rather basic.

Review 84:Unique design of the hotel and historical information available about it and the area.

Review 85:Hot water supply was intermitent and some of our friends had cold showers!! Breakfast choice was poor. Parking was difficult. On top of all that - Staff recommended a local restaurant for dinner (Brasileria?? On top of a hill nr roundabout) and it was a disaster - poor quality food, served only warm and poorly presented. Would not stay here again.

Review 86:Pleasant and friendly staff

Review 87:Disinterested staff provided sparse and incorrect information on restaurants open on Sunday evening and no information on local feria taking place that weekend.

Review 88:Great location overlooking the river. Comfortable room, very quiet with a relaxing atmosphere.

Review 89:The Check-in could be more a welcome-act and less an adminstration-act.

Review 90:The architectural concept of a hotel in combination with the excavation is interesting. The nearby Rio Guadiano is a pleasent view only devaluated by a industrial ruin.

Review 91:The wifi was intermittent and often not available which was a bit frustrating.

Review 92:Clean, modern, and attractive. Enough space, lovely view. I also enjoyed the ruins underneath.

Review 93:Can't think of anything I don't like.

Review 94:Riverfront, brand new, excellent and can't beat the price. Great breakfast and walking distance to castle, restaurants etc. .

Review 95:Poor lounge facility (little view over river). Lack of access to roof area (are there better views from there?)

Review 96:Welcoming, helpful reception staff. Excellent direction signing to find hotel. Nice firm bed. Cups of tea as requested. Decent breakfast. Brilliant recommendations for eating out of evening meals. Convenient location. Easy car parking.

Review 97:room was warm, but no wifi there, so we had to go to the breakfast room and there it was extremely cold, the same for breakfast the following morning, no soap dish in the shower

Review 98:nice room, nice staff, good location, modern utilities

Review 99:Very basic breakfast. Like stated here elsewhere, you have to quick to get the croissants. Would have been better if they gave it to the table it belonged. The bed was a bit hard. Water was not very hot for the shower. (Should not be problem in summer, but in winter, hot water is nice)

Review 100:Half of the staff was very friendly. Nice location. Very clean hotel.

Review 101:The décor in all of the public rooms and the bedrooms was rather dull. Our room had no pictures or anything to brighten the walls.

Review 102:The bedroom was very comfortable with a balcony and magnificent view over the river. The view from the hotel foyer down into the medieval excavations in the basement was a very attractive feature.

Review 103:* The hotel has a small balcony at the riverside, ideal for smokers, but not pleasant for sleeping guests if young men talk loudly on the balcony at 3:30 am. We phoned the reception, who came there ca. 20 minutes later to silence the men. * In spite (or because?) of the modern building, the hotel is not really soundproof, and one can even hear other guests using the bathroom. * The bathroom was modern, but the designer forgot to provide a place in the shower for soap etc. * Breakfast was uninspired * Window sills in breakfast area were not clean, but had dead flies * Even though reception should have known that we had complained during the night, there was no apology

Review 104:* The hotel incorporates a museum with the remnants of the Roman house which was found beneath the hotel. From the entrance level, one can look down into the Roman house. Very pretty and possibly unique, which gives a very special atmosphere. * The hotel seems to have been built recently, and is pleasantly modern. * One of the receptionists was very helpful and spontaneous. * The riverside view of the hotel is great (if one looks toward the right).

Review 105:The hotel has the advantages of being a new building but without the charm of the old that surround it. It is also as the name suggests a museum inasmuch as the ground-floor houses excavated ruins of the Moorish town which preceded the Present one. The design is thus very interesting. It's conveniently close to the interesting parts of a beautiful and fascinating town. The balcony over the river was spectacular. The breakfast satisfactory.

Review 106:Nothing! Only challenge is finding the hotel through the streets of the old town....but one get there in the end.

Review 107:The hotel is beautifully designed, with an extraordinary feature....it is built over the remains of an ancient house, and the excavation is visible through the floor, and can be visited. The hotel has a lovely position beside a pretty river, and is calm and restful. The staff were wonderful with our 7-year old daughter, and we felt very much at home.

Review 108:Quite limited breakfast. Hotel very new and not yet fully completed (balcony of our room was still under construction). No restaurant in the hotel, but restaurants on walking distance.

Review 109:On walking distance from the old city centre of Mertola. Comfortable room.

Review 110:Staff uncommunicative, breakfast poor there was no fruit on offer just bread ans coisants. The room was fairly spartan. We would not stay here again.

Review 111:Locality. We loved the area and the varied bird life.

Review 112:Breakfast is minimal. No dining facilities ensure you try the otherrestaurants in this little historic town.Beware, local signage misdirects you to the hotel down a one way street. Typical Portuguese problem.

Review 113:Stunning location in beautiful countryside. Very helpful staff who willguide you to their nearby family restaurant. Ensure you ask for a riverview room.

Review 114:The breakfast was poor with very little choice and did not justify the extra premium involved. Only 3 or 4 rolls/croissants were provided at a time and soon got snapped up, leaving only the less palatable (and very holey - literally) white bread. The breakfast room facilities were also rather cramped and there tended to be a 'rush' at 8 am when they started serving (when we were there mostly English 'twitchers' intent on birdwatching) with all the tables filling up and late arrivals finding no seats.

Review 115:The view from our room over the River Guadiana was fantastic, the room comfortable and clean and the staff friendly and helpful. As my husband is a vegetarian, it was a great benefit to have the use of a kitchen to prepare our own meals in view of the lack of vegetarian options in local restaurants, the only problem being finding a time when the kitchen was free to use - around 5pm seemed the best option. The hotel was also interesting in terms of history, being built over historic ruins which were viewable from inside the hotel.

Review 116:Lack of an elevator . Breakfast selection was limited but not unreasonable considering the price we paid.

Review 117:Excellent staff, friendly and helpful, recommended a small local restaurant then (unknown to us) phoned ahead to say we wanted fresh fish. Interesting building as it incorporates an archaeological site into the structure.

Review 118:Two of the staff members (not the Cuban) might have been more patientwith my attempts at Portuguese, which I really want to practice andlearn well. Everything (slight exaggeration) in the room was coveredwith white plastic! I prefer my surrouindings to be more natural.

Review 119:The room was very sleek, low-key and modern with a view out over theGuadiana River. There was a private terrace for this purpose, whichI would have enjoyed if it hadn't been too cold. And an orchidin the room!

Review 120:Untidy unmade ground at rear of hotel, manual light switch in corridor too far from corridor entry door.

Review 121:Quietness, easy parking, near restaurants, very clean and comfortable, good value, easty to find

Review 122:Its location in a quiet town of Mertola . It was a modern hotel and relaxing. They built it over the ruins which they preserved as a display on the first level and over which you can look down. Easy location to everything in this small town and along the river

Review 123:at the bottem of a steep hill

Review 124:ear river for fishing

Review 125:View of river. Ideally situated to walk round town,

Review 126:WiFi was only at the counter.

Review 127:moderno, limpeza e localização

Review 128:Hot water delivery was intermittent and no light in the en suite area.

Review 129:The unusual design incorporating the excavated ruins below. Good view over the river. It was quiet (early March) and the receptionist was helpful.

Review 130:hot water turned off attended to when asked

Review 131:modern clean

Review 132:The location of the hotel is very convenient for exploring the town.
