Reviews for Beira Rio

Review 1:Very friendly staff. Perfect location. Amazing view from the room. Very nice, comfortable rooms. Great value for the price. The decoration is older however it does not matter as everything is in a nice harmony.

Review 2:Everything was perfect for our one night stay! From the beginning we were greeted warmly by the very friendly receptionist. Our rooms were perfect, with beautiful views over the river. In the evening we made use of the shared kitchen and we ate on the terrace which we had to ourselves. The beds were super comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the shower hot. And this hotel is perfectly located for a wander round the old town in the evening. The highlights? The views over the river and the friendliness of the staff. No complaints at all. We'll definitely be back!

Review 3:The room was a bit small and the bathroom very simple. There is no swimmingpool.

Review 4:Modern and clean hotel, everything was as it should be. The staff was helpfull and friendly.

Review 5:Excellent hotel with very welcoming staff. Had a wonderful large comfortable room overlooking the river. Originally only booked one night but glad we booked an extra night

Review 6:The wi-fi signal in our rooms was quite weak and conneciton was slow. And the main fault of this accomodation was a mouldy bathroom in one of the rooms. The hotel announced a common kitchen which we did not find. The only way to get a breakfast tea is to pay for the whole breakfast.

Review 7:Very nice location above the Guadiana river - we had two rooms with terrace and the evening with wine above the river was beautiful. Also, the hotel is joint with neigbouring museum hotel with a nice archeological exposition in the reception.

Review 8:There was some confusion with the reservation (type of rooms). The additional price paid was compensated with outdoor activities. The air conditioning equipment was very noisy, specially the ventilation outside the room, and we had to sleep with ear plugs .

Review 9:The location

Review 10:The matrasses were way too hard for our liking. Only possible to sleep on you back, not sideways or on your belly

Review 11:We were staying in the suite with direct view on the castle of Mertola for an incredibly big terras. Absolutely spectaculair! Mertola is a town well worth visiting, both for the castle, the excavations of Roman ruins and some very nice tracks you can walk, bike or drive (check with local tourist office, they supply maps for free)

Review 12:Friendly and welcoming staff, with lots of suggestions for places to visit and local restaurants. Good suite, very well taken after and extremelly clean. The adjacent hotel seems to be very good as well.

Review 13:Bad wifi connection Little outdated rooms For a dutch guy from 1,77 the shower was very claustrophobic Bathroom tiles were mouldy

Review 14:The view from the terrace over the Rio Guadiana by day and mostly by night! Also the staff was very friendly and helpful!!

Review 15:None

Review 16:If you can book river facing on top floor. You will have a very large sun terrace. Spacious 1.5 rooms and very nice bathroom. Views to river and old town uphill. Very nice and helpful staff. Quiet. A/C working effectively during outside ~40degrees.

Review 17:It's the 7th or 8th time we've stayed here and we always enjoy the relaxed environment of the hotel, Mertola itself, and the 'praia fluvial' beach nearby. Fab!

Review 18:Bathroom rather cramped and hard to use the toilet as it was so close to the bath.

Review 19:We had the corner room (224?) which had a large terrace with a view down the river and up to the old town - would have used it more if it had been warmer. Breakfast was efficient with items replaced. Very good value for E87 for 2 rooms including breakfast.

Review 20:Nothing to report

Review 21:Excellent location and Paulo was very knowledgable and helpful at Recepcion. Good room and comfortable bed. Views from terrace excellent. A peaceful night!

Review 22:Great location overlooking the river at the base of the short hill up to the old town with its castle and mosque. The room came with a large patio area with the river just below us. The hotel is clean and modern and well maintained. The staff were very helpful. The museum hotel next door has a display of the archeology discovered on the site. The town, as a whole, is steeped in history and acts as a living museum. We didn't opt for the standard cold buffet breakfast at 5€ a head and went to the pasteleria in the main street for mixed toasties. For dinner there are plenty of places to eat in the main square. We ended up having a great night drinking and chatting with the old guys and a pair of Swedish cyclists at the sporting/working mens' at the top of the street opposite the old cinema. We were able to park our motorbikes on the paved patio area by reception but there is room to park in the street or down by the river.

Review 23:Breakfast room can get very crowded with a line to be seated.

Review 24:Fantastic views from the river facing rooms. One can birdwatch the room! The hotel is also conveniently located to numerous excellent restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Excellent wifi reception in our river-facing room

Review 25:Breakfaast was too hectic, too many guests for staff to to look after properly. Needed either more staff or better buffet system

Review 26:Staff had treat customer service skills, were vary friendly and helpful

Review 27:Dog 10 euros a night

Review 28:Nice location on the river front. Hotel very basic museum hotel next door owned by same people modern but very nice The Beira is old and is havinG a revamp

Review 29:It is a simple yet very nice and clean hotel with a fantastic view over the Guadiana river. My room had two balconies and the view was simply luxurious. The hotel team is extremely nice and always ready to help. I had a very nice stay, the place is absolutely lovely and the accomodation was pleasent. I recommend it!

Review 30:Paying 10 euros for a dog that spent less time in the hotel than wedid, when kennels walk & feed dogs for considerably less.

Review 31:Situation, fantastic views from corner room, good advice fromreceptionist, & cleanliness overall.Have already booked (with 4friends) for late january 2015

Review 32:Being woken at 6 am by portuguese talking loudly in the corridor. Trying to check out at 7 am and finding no staff until 8 am. Being charged €10 a night for a small dog.

Review 33:Location was perfect. Well signposted into town . View from our room was amazing.

Review 34:There wasn't really much not to like unless you count there not being a plug for the bath, which was swiftly sorted on speaking with one of the staff.

Review 35:We thought the location was great for exploring on foot all that Mertola had to offer. The suite we booked was comfortable and clean with great views of the castle and Rio Guadiana from our terrace. We had a great deal on the price of the suite, albeit we didn't book breakfast. This actually worked in our favour as there was a bakery adjacent to the residential and a very nice coffee shop two minutes walk away. We will certainly visit Mertola and stay at Beira Rio again. For the money you could do very much worse!

Review 36:you can't leave the window open as it is groundfloor, but there is an aircondition in the room, so enough fresh air.

Review 37:we had a private terras which was huge, bording the river. nice views. breakfast was in the hotel next to this one, hotel Museu. simple but good enough. we could park for free in front of the hotel, very convenient!

Review 38:Large balcony river views. Mertola is not a party town it is a small quiet place we were almost the only people out. Fair selection of restaurants. Hotel was clean and what we expected as it was our 2nd visit.

Review 39:The shower cubicle was tiny and the tray was old and stsined but the water pressure was great so you got showered even if you could not move in cubicle. Big gaps around windowdoor frames and wall. Not a problem in summer....

Review 40:Nice location. Parquet flooring in lounge area lovely.

Review 41:Booking .com implied on our quote that the tax was included in the price when in fact this was not included. We do not blame the hotel for this but BOOKING.COM is at fault.

Review 42:The location and views were lovely. Breakfast was good and the kitchen facilities were great.

Review 43:Nothing.

Review 44:Our room was in the corner of the bulding so we could see everything! Breakfast was great. Fresh melon, nice bread and the view! We even had WiFi in our room!

Review 45:Breakfast is not included, which is quite far due to room price, though a bit to expensive for offer.

Review 46:Size of rooms and value for money. Wonderful view over the river. Amazing silence.

Review 47:Nothing at that price

Review 48:Nice room overlooking the river. Clean, comfortable, friendly helpful staff. Good location. Breakfast basic but alright. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 53:Location, room view, friendly and helpful staff

Review 54:The location is beautiful.

Review 55:The location was good and the room quiet and comfortable and clean.

Review 56:Room has poor noise insulation. Snooring from the next room was loud and clear.

Review 57:Nice hotel with nice location.

Review 58:great view from balcony over the river to the castle and old city. Comfortable apartment

Review 59:Very friendly staff, good restaurant recommendations.

Review 60:The host took very great care of us, baked cake and prepared an amazing breakfast!

Review 61:Room very cramped, very small bathroom,

Review 62:Problem with the A/C

Review 63:Very spacious room-apartment with 2 separate rooms, ideal for a family.

Review 64:Great views!

Review 65:fantastic view, quiet and comfy room

Review 66:Demasiado calor.

Review 67:A vista.

Review 68:Stayed for one night. Hotel was clean, quiet. Kitchen available, looks out onto a balcony with a lovely view. Would definitely stay here again!

Review 69:Furniture is a little basic

Review 70:great view on river side. Get a room with a big balcony.

Review 71:Very basic breakfast.

Review 72:Right next to the river.

Review 73:location overlooking the river. good sized bright room with balcony, quiet location, close to amenities, free parking

Review 74:View of the terrace

Review 75:We have booked an apartment for four and a baby, got a two bedroom room with no kitchen.

Review 76:The brefast could be better.

Review 77:A good place for this price .

Review 78:Room very cold (stayed in February)

Review 79:View from balcony, breakfast, helpful staff

Review 80:Quiet, picturesque town, very clean. Good local restaurants.

Review 81:wi-fi very weak at room. only available in the hall.

Review 82:view

Review 83:the location, the view (river) the kitchen, so you can make some tea or even cook if you want to, nice friendly and helpful staff,

Review 84:No shade for parked cars.

Review 85:Excellent location. Beautiful typical Portuguese decor. Very helpful and polite staff.

Review 86:wifi not in room slowest reception i experienced

Review 87:beautiful room nice view

Review 88:Nothing

Review 89:Nice terras overlooking the river guadiana Voor breakfastbuffet Peace and quiet

Review 90:Great riverside location, excellent value for money. We've stayed a few times and it's always nice and friendly.

Review 91:if there is a pet supplement we are normally told the price beforehand, giving us the opportunity to look for something else instead. not this time. at least the peevish lady at reception quickly, though grudgingly, compromised on the price.

Review 92:location. balcony. free parking.

Review 93:The room was half clean when we arrived. (There were towels on the floor and cigarettes in the ashtray on the terrace). The breakfast is not worth €10. The parking is near but not next to the hotel. The walls are paper thin.

Review 94:The view from the terrace overlooking the river and up to the castle is spectacular from our suite.

Review 95:Sliding door to terrace would not lock - stripped out. The breakfast had hardly any fresh fruit - only a bowl of very cold apples and 2 oranges. Bottled juices, Terrible coffee. Only sweet flavored yoghurts, boiled ham, tasteless cheese slices and breads. Same breakfast as in Hotel Museu next door (where we had to go 2nd day). Reception also next door. Studio terrace has a solid wall around it so that it is impossible to see the river or most of the town (can only see the castle and very top of the town), plus no shade on it so much too hot (burns feet) to use except at night or early AM. Room was fairly clean except day bed in sitting room cover. Terrace and outdoor furniture.had bird poop on it we had to clean for using. Narrow steep slippery stairs - difficult to navigate with bags, my partner fell down the last few and there is no one in Reception or hotel lobby to help with anything at all - someone could be dead on the floor until another guest came along!

Review 96:Studio is large with the addition of a small sitting room (desk with no electric outlet nearby, day bed, wicker chair). Had a router plugged in just outside the door sitting on the floor so WiFi in the room was good. AC worked well. Shame the breakfast couldn't be better and the view from Studio terrace improved.

Review 97:Fantastic place on the river. The triple rooms have enormous terraces that we enjoyed hanging out on. Stylish and comfortable rooms. Good value kayak hire and good breakfast.

Review 98:I cannot think of anything.

Review 99:Delightful stay, perfect location and were lucky to have a room, No 10, overlooking the river with 2 balconies so perfect for end of the day drinks as the sun set behind the castle. Room was immaculate, check in staff most friendly and helpful and breakfast, simple but good value. Location ideal for strolling round the town day or night. Will certainly go back if visiting Mertola again

Review 100:Big comfy room, great location with river views from balcony. Relaxed atmosphere. Member of staff I mainly dealt with, Luis, was very helpful and friendly.

Review 101:We ask for a non smoking room. The corridor outside our room reeked of cigarette smoke and we heard people in the night in the corridor...presumably smoking.

Review 102:the view from the huge balcony was wonderful. There could be more attempt to visually separate on balcony from another.

Review 103:On the first night the hot water ran out mid-shower. Brrr! It was all right after that.

Review 104:We were upgraded to a room with a river view. The bed was comfortable. The hostal seemed new and everything worked.

Review 105:The hotel was in a good position with lovely views over the river. Very friendly Barman at night, made a good gin/tonic.An really good position for visiting the castle and church.

Review 106:the room was humid and cold and needed a long time to get a minimum comfortable temperature when we arrived, we could not find a person to ask for a while, maybe because low season, but we had booked

Review 107:Had trouble with the internet. Ended up using the Hotel Museu instead but not always accessible.

Review 108:We had a terrace which overlooked the river. It was a great place to sit and chill - even in the middle of winter

Review 109:The fact that I had to wait 2 hours for my room to be ready ( I didn't get there till 3 pm) and the fact they were still cleaning the place at 5:30. Don't really want to listen to the hoovering when I'm trying to relax after a long journey.

Review 110:Location

Review 111:We really enjoyed the view from the room - just magnificent. The room was adequate, however, it had what you need. The bathroom was quite large. The walls in the hotel are really thin and you could hear people going in and out of doors even late in the night. You can even hear when the tv is on in the room next to yours. We were not able to get the Wi-Fi to work in our room, but it worked without problems in the reception area. Breakfast was okay. Bread, ham, cheese, yoghurt and some small cakes. Coffee and tea too.

Review 112:One of the nights there was a very loud party across the river, whichkept us up until about 4 am. The thin windows blocked none of the sound. The other night was ok though.

Review 113:Decent rooms with a very nice view. Everything was at a walkingdistance. The personnel gave us useful touristic information (F.E.Pulo do Lobo).

Review 114:Hotel is geared up for folk staying one or two nights - we stayed 8 daysand found lack of bedroom furniture a bit of a problem. Sharing deskswith the newer hotel next door is a little inconvenient.

Review 115:An extremely comfortable hotel with excellent lounges, terrific viewsand friendly staff.

Review 116:Best possible location with friendly staff, river tours near from the hotel, historic part of Mertola near the hotel, ok room with great view to the river, good price

Review 117:There were a lot of ants in the room. Even when he offered me another room, there were ants again. The room was also old and did not feel were welcomming ... was not worth the (cheap) money and not worth to stay there

Review 118:For just 5€ more we have got offered a room in the Hotel next door which was nice and clean and ant-free

The Fine Print

The guest house offer a kitchen and a dining room with terrace for the customers to prepare food.
