Reviews for Akakura Wakui Hotel
Review 1:The "Onsen" in the basement is too old
Review 2:- good service - staff are all very ncie - free transport to the Myoko Kogen Train Station - many useful information about restaurants and ski equipment rental provided by the front desk
Review 3:For a traditional Japanese hotel, Hotel Wakui is excellent. Great friendly service is provided by Daisuke and his family, including a pickup service from the Myoko Kogen train station. The room was warm and comfortable. The onsite onsen is fantastic. And the location is excellent in town and only a 3 min walk to the Akakura Onsen chair lift. Would definitely stay there again!
Review 4:Hotel a little tired and wifi poor in room - good in lobby.
Review 5:Magnificent host went above and beyond to facilitate our wishes and make our stay comfortable. Great food, breakfast and dinner. We went very late season but would be great location for skiing in peak season.
Review 6:The only rough part is wifi is in the lobby and unless you smoke you may end up sitting next to those that do.
Review 7:Daisuke was a great host and the onsen wonderful. The place is not flash but the value is good. A shuttle from Myoko is an added bonus. Never used the bedroom shower as onsen was just too nice.
Review 8:The only small complaint is was the wifi was a little weak.
Review 9:The owner is a fantastic gentleman! Picked me up from the train station and was super accommodating!
Review 10:It is about 15 minutes from the station, so you would need to call to get picked up, but they speak English which is a great plus!
Review 11:We arrived late, past 11pm on the last possible local train and wasn't sure if they would still pick us up using the shuttle. We called and they accommodated us. They also helped us the next day in calling our next hotel. Best service. :D The ski resort is just right outside the hotel.
Review 12:The Staff were outstanding and did everything to ensure our stay was comfortable. They gave us transfers to and from the train and lots of information about the area. Our room was upgraded and the breakfast was great. I enjoyed the art in the hotel that was made by a family member and have sent some of the postcards I received to my family in New Zealand. We would happily stay here again.
Review 13:Not a lot of English spoken Free Wifi but did not work well at peak demand periods.
Review 14:The friendliness of staff, comfort of room and location were great. Good heating and fabulous onsen. They offer pickup and delivery to the train station at Myoko Kogen. Family run hotel.
Review 15:No complaints
Review 16:Staff allways willing to do what ever they could to help and ensure we had a great experience. Provided pick up and drop off service from station. Allowed us to store gear in check out day so we could benifit from a powder day
Review 17:we guessed that the previous guests in our room were smokers. Took whole two days to get rid of the strong smell.
Review 18:The hotel owner Daisuke, his wife and all of hotel staff were lovely and really helpful. The location of the hotel was excellent, near the lift and also busy part of town. Although because we were taking lessons at Snow Sports we had to walk to the opposite end of town (champion lift) the 3 days we stayed there. That however didn't annoy us, it lets us noticed different shops in the town and plan our evening. The food that the hotel offered was also very good. Overall a good stay.
Review 19:If you like fluffy pillows take your own.
Review 20:Japanese/ English speaking staff, with a lovely family feeling. Great Aunt has some beautiful paintings around the hotel, and she is now 110 years old. The owner was very helpful, and you can email him easily with any questions. Rooms are large for family of 4, and they put the beds away for you every night. It was so easy, close to ski lifts. Close to Main Street with excellent local cuisine. Still a traditional town. Onsen after ski day was lovely. Going back!
Review 21:Nothing.
Review 22:The owner, Daisuke was extremely helpful, above and beyond. The room was great, the staff very polite. The food was very good. We really enjoyed our stay. Most of the staff spoke some english, the owner very well.
Review 23:Great service by the attentive staff and the owner is very kind. Room was comfortable and spacious. Location to ski lifts is excellent. Will stay again.
Review 24:Superb family style service
Review 25:Perfect location for skiing
Review 26:Not really
Review 27:The hosts and the location
Review 28:Nothing much to complain about
Review 29:Daisuke and his family are amazing friendly people so accommodating and helpful
Review 30:The breakfast.
Review 31:Very pleasant and serviceminded owners.
Review 32:The onsen area is getting old and needs some work.
Review 33:Friendly owner and staff who are willing to go the extra mile to make things go right.
Review 34:Very Friendly staff, accommodated our request for Western Breakfast. Excellent location.
Review 35:The most helpful and generous staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to everyone who made it a great stay!
Review 36:wi-fi was not good during peak hours
Review 37:hospitality; convenience & comfort; value; nhk channel; japanese style room
Review 38:Very kind owner.....fantastic time we stayed with them...everything perfact
Review 39:Location
Review 40:Good experience in staying in a Japanese family-run hotel. The owner is very accommodating. Good level of communication in English.
Review 41:not enough snow
Review 42:close to lifts. clean and friendly
Review 43:Many things. The reception was normally occupied by a man smoking. The heating to the room (& hotel generally) was insufficent. The bathroom was very dated and rough. The breakfast on the first morning was terrible (although it did improve on subsequent days). Overall the price represented poor value for money.
Review 44:Location was fairly convenient. The owner assisted with lifts to the station and equipment hire store.
Review 45:- The slippers- looks a little weatherbeaten at first glance (not like that inside, though)
Review 46:Because the lift was out of service, the proprietor gave us an extraroom at no cost. This included a gorgeous mini-suite with a Japanese-style room complete with tatami, futon and paper screens and anexquisite lacquerware table, plus a western bed and sofa and a viewnorth through a lovely maple. The sound of the stream was lovely atnight. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and had a bit ofEnglish. The owner's elderly relative's lovely paintings wereeverywhere and gave the place a nice air of friendliness. A lizard wasapparently waiting for us by the hire car when we checked out, and thepond at the front had pondskaters. Great place, full of character.
