Reviews for Monverde - Wine Experience Hotel

Review 1:The single thing we did not like about the hotel is that the main building has all the services (breakfast, dinner, pool, spa, etc) and is 200/300 mt away from the bedrooms building. Since it was winter, cold and raining, we needed to take the car to go to the pool or got for breakfast.

Review 2:The hotel is brand new, the design and decor are amazing and show extreme care, both in materials and colours. The surrounding vineyards give it a great feeling. Fabulous staff, gave us a warming welcome tour accompanied by a cocktail and promptly address every request we made. Definitely worth a visit if you are to relax in a beautiful place and feel very welcomed.

Review 3:The mattress and pillows could be better. The rooms need more door mats otherwise they get dirty from stepping in and out

Review 4:The architecture, the food, the location, the spa.

Review 5:I think the dinner was the worst part of the hotel, i guess they just opened the hotel and they still need to improve that. However, breakfast was really good.

Review 6:The location, the room and the place itself which is amazing! Very good place to relax and to enjoy the spa.

Review 7:Location was great, setup of the place very nice, room had great view over vallet and staff was excellent. We liked the pool and had good dinner in restaurant on 2 nights. Good place to wind down and relax.

Review 8:The "wine experience hotel" atmosphere was totally spoilt by the numerous and noisy small children (and babies) who should not be allowed in this kind of hotel (a policy common in many countries) There was almost no lighting in the room. It was impossible to read. We needed a torch to pack/unpack our bags. The evening meal was extremely expensive and not very good. I was offered a glass of port at the end, as I had been offered in most Portugese restaurants, but later found myself charged 7 Euros. As a free glass of port is traditional in most restaurants, it should have been made clear that there was a charge. The glass fronted sauna with children running in and out made it impossible to use in the traditional manner (unclothed).

Review 9:Superb surroundings and views.

Review 10:The almost empty restaurant was terrible. Heavy, flavorless dishes were basically dropped on the table without comment and without knowledgeable (or any) recommendations for wine. Forced us off the property for dinner our following three nights, not what we had originally intended. For breakfast eggs, bacon and sausages came direct, cold, from a chafing dish. The bar was closed upon arrival after we were directed to it. Not once, in all our four days lingering in the lobby, did anyone approach us to taste wine or offer wine or a short walk through the vineyards or the owning winery. Definitely not what we would call a "Wine Experience".

Review 11:Comfortable rooms, lobby, appearance of dining room, grounds

Review 12:We wanted to buy their wine when leaving, but they had it only at restaurant prices.

Review 13:Interesting contemporary design both for rooms and common areas. Very peaceful surroundings with vineyards. Great breakfast.

Review 14:Loved everything!

Review 15:The hotel was exquisite in all aspects. Truly a wonderful wine experience, with rooms located within the vineyards. Complexes were modern design and tastefully decorated. Comfort and relaxation are the goal.

Review 16:We had a great stay, but we noticed there were a lot of teething problems with this young hotel:1. Some staff members were very friendly and helpful, others not so much. Overall, the level of English of the staff was quite bad and it made it difficult to communicate with them, with the exception of the bell boy/bar tender, who was very helpful.2. The pool area gets immensely overcrowded, especially when there are a lot of guests in the hotel. This hotel is meant to be a place where people come to get some romantic time alone, in peace.. Get a nice massage etc... But there were far too few sun loungers or chairs compared to the amount of guests this hotel has capacity for. This led to people hogging chairs/loungers before breakfast was over, leaving their towels there for the day so that no one else could get a lounger. I ended up lying on the floor and the staff did nothing about it.3. It also got incredibly noisy and not very relaxing, with groups of Portuguese guests basically gathering around the pool, talking very loud for hours...And then there was the issue with screaming noisy kids, running around the pool and running up and down the corridors. I think the hotel should choose who they want to attract: couples with small kids or couples that come for a romantic relaxing getaway. You cant be both!4. The outside pool looks really nice, but it is small, which is odd, considering there is so much land around the property... The inside pool is great.5. The cleaning staff often did not replenish the small items in our room that were either basic or that we were promised. For example, we had to ask for toilet paper a couple of times! We did get coffee & tea facilities which was very nice, but we only received one bag of instant coffee between the two of us to have within 2-3 days. And we never received the cookies that we were promised on day 1. Don't promise anything that you can't deliver!6.

Review 17:The rooms and the buildings are beautiful, so is the setting: in the midst of gorgeous vineyards with lovely views over the hills. We especially liked the fact there was a bath tub in our room and the facilities (fridge, hair dryer, safe, etc). Both pools were done out really nicely too and the wooden terrace outside was clean and looked stunning. The food in the restaurant was nice too, albeit a bit pricey for what it was, but the portions were just enormous! The room service food was nothing special but good. We got a bottle of bubbly wine on the day of our anniversary, which was very nice of the hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Review 18:Monteverde was modern, luxurious, and designed to fit the setting. It overlooked the rolling hills and they were harvesting the grapes. Indoor and outdoor pool. Dry and wet sauna. Wine with every meal if you chose. Staff friendly and informative about the area and wines.

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:Beautiful rooms, gorgeous beds, exquisite bathrooms, pool area lovely. Peaceful vineyard surrounding hotel. Staff extra helpful, warm and friendly. Very accommodating. Food excellent. A real find in the countryside!

Review 21:The receptionist did not welcome is very well. She did not tell us about the area and what the hotel could offer (she could have been smiling and outgoing) - this goes for all the receptionists. More information about the making of the wine so you really feel you are in the middle of a wine-adventure. Did not provide correct password for the computer or telling us how the wifi worked. We got a roundtour from the manager later on and that was great. The staff at the restaurant seemed quite unsure of them selves - I guess this will get better with practise. They did not understand that much english either, but we managed. Noisy kids at the pool area during weekend - no problem on weekdays. Very dark rooms, there should be more lights by the bed, in the ceiling and in the bathroom by the mirror.

Review 22:Really beautiful place and luxurious materials used with respect of the surroundings. The manager was very friendly and helpfull. Nice food at the restaurant. Very nice detail with the winetasting.
