Reviews for The Grand Guesthouse
Review 1:Overpriced.. Rock hard bed. Room a bit crampedo. Very noisy evaporative cooler which blew cold air directly onto you in bed. Rooms weren't serviced daily but no warning of this.
Review 2:Quant atmospheric ,lots of old artefacts. Like staying in Granny's house. Cereal and bread provided self serve for breakfast. Plus tea and coffee available.
Review 3:Dated and minimalist more like a youth hostel.Old beds, pillows and mattresses and sheets smelled musty. Serve yourself cereals and bread only. Not a true Guesthouse experience. Overpriced
Review 4:Location
Review 5:Stairs could be a problem for some.
Review 6:The old world charm. Free continental breakfast. All day home cooked cake. Pleasant helpful owner. Would go there again.
Review 7:There is a large dining room and lounge room where tea and coffee are always available(as well as fresh cake!!!) It's a great place for families as well as individuals, couples and friends where all can feel very comfortable. There are electric blankets for the cold weather and air conditioners for the hot weather. The TV really works if you want it to. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from the station and on the main street right in the middle of the business district but is still very quiet.
Review 8:Upon arrival and walking up the stairs there was some unusual smells ( from the live in pets) that didn't give a great first impression but that soon passed and we really enjoyed the hotel. If the hotel was full I imagine it would be noisy with old thin walls.
Review 9:I loved the character of the hotel and the photos and history on the walls to enhance this. We were two families with young kids. We could put the kids to bed and sit nearby together in the lounge room beside a crackling open fire and enjoy a glass of wine together in the evening. There were also plenty of books to read or dvd's to watch all complimentary. Mandy the host was great. We returned from a full day at a funeral with hungry tired children and rather than wait for take away to be delivered she offered to make us baked beans or eggs on toast. You couldn't ask for more. Shared bathroom was impeccably clean and had a bath with rubber ducky for kids. Room was large and comfortable. Help yourself breakfast included real coffee and was great.
Review 10:Nothing we didn't like but as the guesthouse is on the first floor with the long historic corridors of its day, it may not suit people with mobility problems
Review 11:Might not have the street appeal of other hotels but this place was a delightful step back in time. Genuine 100 yr old guesthouse, full of memorabilia and with many comforts.we had tea and coffee facilities in our room yet there's all day access to a guest dining room with tea, plunger coffee and home made cake for guests to enjoy.also a sitting room with open fire, where you can relax and browse the variety of reading material the bed was very comfortable with top quality linen, and also very quiet as the wing we were in was away from main Street
Review 12:The bed was slightly harder than expected. It was OK for us but there is no elevator so be prepared to carry luggage up a steep flight of stairs.
Review 13:The ambience of the guest house was delightful with lots of history at every turn.
Review 14:Wifi is not great stops working a lot so gave up and used own data (not a big issue for me)
Review 15:I had a sudden family death and had to leave on short notice. The lady there was so amazing and supportive. It was very comforting.
Review 16:Mandy was always available when seeking information and advice. Its location when travelling by train The atmosphere of the place was really "homey"
Review 17:The Grand was very close to the train station so a short walk after a long trip. I found the staff welcoming and room very comfortable. The room and ensuite were clean. There was heating in the room and an electric blanket to get through the cool evenings. The breakfast choices were excellent and the added bonus of afternoon tea with a home cooked cake was lovely! The free Wifi worked at all times when I was in my room or shared spaces.
Review 18:Old dirty stained carpet. Being an older building it is a little run down inside. some cockroaches at the base of fridge in kitchen. Only two toilets and showers for men.
Review 19:Location is good, continental breakfast is generous, staff are courteous. Lovely high ceilings and good sized rooms. Teenage son's sucked up the free wifi which was good strength in room 1. Shared Toilet and Shower facilities were clean. All appropriate for the money. A good Broken Hill experience.
Review 20:Noise from next door's TV & snoring - paper thin walls. Steep stairs & no help with luggage. Would not recommend for elderly or if you cannot manage stairs.
Review 21:Location, welcoming hostess, old wordly & laid back.
Review 22:Very convenient to railway-especially for an overnight stay. No complaints at all-really appreciated the included continental breakfast. Would recommend to others.
Review 23:The Creaking floor boards especially at night when anyone was coming or going.
Review 24:The welcoming atmosphere just like being at home. Comfortable room and very clean communal Bathroom and showers.
Review 25:The rooms are in need of some TLC and the entrance hall near reception smells decidedly musty.
Review 26:Location. Homemade tea and cake. Advice to go and see the sculptures at sunset, well worth the 6 k drive.
Review 27:The strong smell of smoke at the reception area, so much that if I walked off the street I would not of stayed there. on saying that there was no smell of smoke anywhere else. Also the walls are paper thin. Had to turn up TV loud so I didn't have to listen to the TV next door or the people talking..
Review 28:Great Location. Simple Breakfast. For a short term visit I would stay there again. Priced accordingly for the what you get.
Review 29:Ensuite shower took minutes to heat, suggest turning on before stripping!
Review 30:Coffee (plunger) and home made cake available 24 hours. Nice lounge and dining room. Can use dining room facilities for take-away food. Rooms tastefully done. Free washing machine and dryer. Off street parking. Very close to train station. Good pubs, restaurants and supermarket nearby
Review 31:A bit too much "stuff" around and sometimes the strong smell of cigarettes at reception.
Review 32:Close to the station and right in the centre of things. Homely atmosphere particularly the use of the Dining Room whenever we wanted a meal in. Friendly Manager and staff.
Review 33:Bedroom was a little small and next doors TV could be easily heard.
Review 34:Handy location, lots of antiques to look at which gave the place a homely feel. Good breakfast room and open fire in the lounge. Liked the bottled water available in the hallways.
Review 35:It has to be understood that the premises are old and don't have the ease of mod cons.
Review 36:The Grand Guesthouse is the converted former Grand Hotel, and it is good to see some of the Broken Hill's 19th century glory retained.
Review 37:We felt very welcome at the Grand Guesthouse. We were very well cared for and found the atmosphere really suited the historical importance of Broken Hill. We enjoyed the central position of the Guesthouse as we could walk to major tourist sites
Review 38:A Nothing
Review 39:We loved the absolute charm of this gorgeous old building, it's close proximity to everywhere and were especially appreciative of the friendly efforts made by staff. (We also enjoyed Mandy's fabulous home baked cakes for afternoon tea-a complimentary treat provided for guests:)
Review 40:My son had a room on one side that had the traffic light noise keep him awake all night. Ask for a room away from the street.
Review 41:Hospitality and care. When complaining about the noise from traffic light heard all night in a room with three adults, we were given 2 rooms the next night, away from the noise, at no increased charge.
Review 42:The hot water tap in room not working,
Review 43:We only stayed one night but it was a good sized room. Comfortable beds. Nice and quiet and had electric blankets. Continental breakfast with good variety. Great location.
Review 44:They certainly went the extra mile - my room was upgraded because I was staying 5 nights; I was allowed to stay all day on my last day, rather than booking out by 10.0 am, because my train was not due until 6.30. I cannot speak highly enough of The Grand Guest House and will certainly a) recommend it to anyone I know is traveling to Broken Hill, and b) stay there if I get the opportunity to return to Broken Hill, which I hope to do - I love it!

Review 66:Couldn't get Wifi, not that it was a big deal anyway.
Review 67:Convenience, comfort & affordable.
Review 68:nothing to dislike
Review 69:Friendly staff & convenient location
Review 70:That my room wasn't serviced. I stayed 2 nights and my room wasn't cleaned or tidied up. Pretty poor effort.
Review 71:No yogurt for the breakfast.
Review 72:In need of some upgrade
Review 73:Good location
Review 74:the Grand is a central part of Broken Hill history.
Review 75:Knick-knacks and antiques, resident cat & dog and the obvious behind the scenes care from the resident hostess.
Review 76:Very convenient, interesting history and structure of building, great staff and welcoming feel. It is sort of unusual, has personality.
Review 77:The cat smell which permeated the building.

Review 89:Mandy our host was very helpful. A very comfortable night's sleep. Good value for money. Extremely clean.
Review 90:friendly, accommodating atmoshere of the guest house. Its also very quaint.
Review 91:The price of petrol!
Review 92:Amanda our host was helpful and pleasant. Lots to see around town and locally. Ideal environment for relaxing.
Review 93:Bad smell in hallway near room.
Review 94:Comfortable bed, good breakfast, reasonable price.
Review 95:all a bit run down. no room heating, esp in bathroom
Review 96:central location - a lot of sights within 10 minute walk. close to railway station. friendly staff.
Review 97:Absolutely loved the feel of The Grand Guest House. An old world setting with modern conveniences and owner Mandy's hospitality was absolutely gorgeous. The freshly baked cake available all day to enjoy with tea and coffee anytime was sublime. A grand old place to stay and enjoy the feel of yesteryear.
Review 98:The only problem i could see would be the car parking when busy as there are limited spaces which didn't affect us as we picked a quite weekend.
Review 99:good location, clean and quiet, plenty of space to read watch tv etc,Continental breakfast included, great staff ,good location in town being close to coffee shops and clubs.
Review 100:in main areas carpet a bit old
Review 101:first looks are deceiving but rooms are very spacious and the beds are very comfy and friendly staff and is value for the price with brekky included.
Review 102:my stay was too short.
Review 103:The location,Mandy was a great hostess, and the whole experience was pleasant and comfortable including endless cake and coffee if you want ...free.
Review 104:woudve liked to use kitchen -it had a sign saying guests could not use, but then might be a problem in high season.
Review 105:good location, clean and quiet, plenty of space to read watch tv etc, breakfast included, great staff and very close to train station, and main street of Broken Hill.
Review 106:The only negative was the lack of a lift, as everything - reception, rooms, etc. was up a flight of steep stairs. Good exercise though!
Review 107:The location was great - only minutes' walk from the railway station. Our queen en-suite room was adequate; the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom larger than average. There were numerous sitting areas and a communal lounge with a super-size TV, while the self-serve breakfast room was open 24/7, with complimentary home-made cake available in the refrigerator. Best of all, there was decent ground coffee and a plentiful supply of plungers. The legendary manager, Mandy, was pleasant and helpful. Summing up, we have been to Broken Hill several times and each time stayed in a different hotel or motel. Next time, we'll be returning to the Grand!
Review 108:Noisy guests from adjoining room particularly children. Perhaps there should be some clauses in booking or signs in room to request parents to manage their child/ren especially after 10pm.
Review 109:We had a very pleasant stay. Friendly staff, clean and generous facilities and a homely atmosphere are some of the features that we like. Location is very convenient.
Review 110:1. Out side our room in the street the pedestrian walk/stop indicator beeped all night despite the fact that there were no pedestrians. Is this something council or road authority could modernise to a day/night timer or "touch only response" mechanism to eliminate the noise pollution problem for those adjacent to it upstairs in their bedrooms? 2. Mandy is having a problem finding a carpet cleaner to service her facility in Broken Hill. Perhaps the property owner could replace the very stained (but not dirty) carpet. This property is used by industry fly in and out customers and their industrial shoes have left their mark. This is the only thing that puts off the newly arriving guest.
Review 111:The host Mandy made the experience. She was friendly, helpful and went out of her way to meet our needs. I loved the historic memorabilia, some of it for sale. The shared bathroom was no problem and even the creaking floor boards on route to the bathroom in the night is a bit of a laugh. It was a very friendly and safe experience and very close to the train station.
Review 112:The bed was hard and the pillows were too soft. The stairs up to reception and the accommodation were a steep and many.
Review 113:The friendliness of the staff and the availability of facilities such as laundry, kitchen, TV room for use and location to the centre of town. I felt quite at home there and it had a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of space to move around.
Review 114:There were no negatives. I received much more than I expected and the atmosphere was 1st Class.
Review 115:Best organized accommodation I have ever stayed in - and most effort by management to give value for money. Old world charm and you feel completely at home as soon as you book in.
Review 116:cats in kitchen, dog in and out of roomd and pooed in hallway- yuk, also price we paid was inflated to rates displayed, so we felt ripped off, bathtubs filthy
Review 117:home made cake and self serve breakfast at no specified time, free wi fi , laundry facilities and nice comfy beds
Review 118:being older with phisical problems, the stairs & the shared toilet- bathroom. down the hall, but we managed ok.
Review 119:just A walk to musiums & places of interest, shops, car rental, clubs & train station. every body was friendy
Review 120:The paper thin walls where every sound next door could be heard. The cold water tap in the basin did not work. The blinds did not work properly. The stairs to the car park were very rickety. No individual climate controll.
Review 121:The location in the centre of town.
Review 122:location, friendliness and helpfulness of manager mandy , jess and other staff. good choice for breakfast, love the tea and cake. loved broken hill-the history, art, friendliness of locals.
Review 123:Staff not as warm as our other stays. The quirkiness becomes clutter at times. Little soundproofing between rooms
Review 124:Historic building, great location, quirky layout and furnishings
Review 125:A lift would help the avoid steep stairs, unsuitable for handicapped guests. Also an uneven floor throughout
Review 126:The friendly relaxed charm of a historic Australian country town guesthouse with a choice of rooms with & without ensuites. The central location and rear parking for guests. Eating in the dining room allowed us to meet and chat with other guests.
Review 127:loved the old charm of the guest house and the friendly staff
Review 128:I like the location,i am elderly person and found the proxcimity to the train station and shops very convenient
