Reviews for Mochican Palace Hotel

Review 1:The only thing I would complain about really has nothing to do with the hotel itself....because it is on the north end of the beach-front places there is a lot of new construction happening and everyday we woke-up to hammering/ construction activities at 8:00am....all day! practically like they were in the room with us!! However, we did not stay in the room all day and the noise stopped around 5-6:00pm.

Review 2:The room and view (King with ocean view) were awesome!! the private terrace and outdoor bath were really nice.

Review 3:Internet didn't work for the 3 days we were there, but I don't think it was the hotel's fault. Don't get one of the rooms of the 1st floor next to the pool, as the light is right outside the window, and it can be noisy.

Review 4:The front desk staff was very helpful, including helping us figure out how to get to Trujillo and the wonderful ruins. All requests were met with smiles. Great location right on the beach, in a quiet area. Much more private and quiet than staying in a guest house / hospedaje / hostal.

Review 5:No cab drivers knew where it was. Staff at the front desk were very unhelpful, also poor service and poor quality breakfast. No outside food or drink you get fined if you bring anything in.

Review 6:awsome fireworks on Jan 1st, it was close to the mall, cool outside vendors, close to the airport. Staff at the entrence were great helpful and good service

Review 7:Not many staff and those that were there seemed rather new. Staff could be more knowledgeable about tourist attractions of the area. Room seemed a bit "sterile," i.e., concrete floor, not as homey as some hotels.

Review 8:Great location, away from the noise of the "downtown" area of the beach community. Picturesque. Nearby restaurants and one on site. Good breakfast with outstanding ocean view. Easy to get to nearby archeological sites and Trujillo. Helpful staff. Large room with good beds, bathroom and TV.

Review 9:The lack of staff makes it impossible for them to manage all tasks on their own - the bathrooms for all the guests were not clean and we had to get them to ask for breakfast even though they advertised it being available from 8-10am. The rooms were also not cleaned although we stayed 2 nights and we had to ask for clean towels. The bathroom in our room did not even have enough room for us to sit on the toilet.. Also, the staff barely or didn't speak English at all so it was difficult to communicate - they Didn't have a map of the hotel to help with this so it left us on our own..

Review 10:The location is great

Review 11:Our room was dirty especially in the bathroom. The design of the room was poor- there was little storage space and what was there was impractical. The bathroom was designed so that you had to sit sidesaddle on the toilet. When you had a shower the whole bedroom and bathroom got steamed up and stayed damp (including clothing) for the rest of our stay. The restaurant was shut and we threw the staff into some confusion by asking for a cup of tea. This is the most expensive hotel we've stayed in and by far the worst whilst we've been in Peru.

Review 12:Some helpful staff. Artwork in the lobby.

Review 13:The cable in our original room was not working so staff quickly rectified this and offered us the king suit. It's an amazing room (the jacuzzi's quite awesome. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 14:No hot water. After checking in they told us no hot water. The next day, still none. Went for coffee and breakfast in the restaurant, no one was there. Asked at front desk, they sent someone up. They fixed us one cup of coffee and then disappeared.

Review 15:Comfortable bed, good tv.

Review 16:We were here at low season. The first room without air conditioning was really moisty. We upgraded to a room with ac but here the hot water was poor. The wifi signal was poor in our room and in restaurant.

Review 17:View from restaurant.

Review 18:Service is 2star Restaurant not open for dinner Did not change sheets Overall worth 20 dollars per night in this area very overpriced

Review 19:Hotel new

Review 20:Not their fault, but first night, we checked in very late for our room on the 5th floor, and the elevator was broken. Last night a SUPER noisy family with young children were booked right next to us, even tho there weren't many guests. And the last morning, the chef had a problem on the way to work, so NO BREAKFAST. Otherwise, highly recommend this place.

Review 21:The room was nice, the staff was TERRIFIC. We never got to use the Jacuzzi on our balcony (or pool or hot tub in lobby), but they are great amenities.

Review 22:The hotel was new, neat and tidy. Carlos was such a lovely host, always ready to assist us in anyway. He definitely went above and beyond and made the stay that much more enjoyable.

Review 23:they do not accept MasterCard, only Visa.

Review 24:Restaurant was closed for dinner when we were there

Review 25:Sea views, comfortable beds, clean rooms, good wifi coverage throughout hotel

Review 26:Do not have warm water

Review 27:Despite being reasonably new this hotel is already in a state of disrepair. Everything is poorly maintained, lots of glass but it's all filthy dirty. First room I checked into had a flooded bathroom. The second room was a larger room at the front of the hotel but at US$100 is way over priced especially considering it's the low season. The room lacked furnishings and any sort of love and care. Would not stay here again.

Review 28:Great location directly on the beach.

Review 29:A few hiccups, no hot water one afternoon and this seemed to be a known but unfixed problem. Hotel is ghostly quiet. Owner/manager needs a wake up call, bread and jam for breakfast! Thats what you get in a hostel paying 20 soles a night.

Review 30:Lower your expectations and you will be happy, not 4 star luxury but alright. Staff listened and the king suite room was very spacious.

Review 31:Very poor cleanliness. Hallways were dirty, rooms were not cleaned regularly or thoroughly. Strange room layout eg needing to side saddle the toilet and ugly view from room.

Review 32:Friendly and helpful receptionist

Review 33:The wifi was undependable up on our floor. We kept having to have them re-boot the system. I would think they'd need to improve that because they advertise wifi in the guest rooms.

Review 34:We loved the location and the staff were friendly and eager to serve. We loved the balcony with the view of the beach and ocean. It was a very pleasant place to stay and we would definitely stay there again if we go back to Huanchaco, Peru.

Review 35:Reading previous negative reviews and almost not staying here! Don't sweat the small stuff every business has growing pains and only being 4 months old...nothing's perfect and intill you realize that...

Review 36:After a lot of traveling in the south of Peru, night buses, trains taxies etc we wanted our last 5 days on the beach before coming back to a frigid Canadian winter. We found the PERFECT place in Mochican. We started off with our first 2 days in the basic room, which was fine because it was in our budget. After staying 2 nights and seeing how beautiful the belcony suits were with jacuzzi on the patio we had to have one. We spent our remaining nights on the 5th floor with a beautiful view of the ocean. The hotel is located at the end of the town right on the beach and perfect walking distance to the peir, some great restraunts and amazing street food! Although we did not have breakfast included in this hotel, it has a fabulous rooftop restraunt with some wonderful food, some of the best we have had while in Peru and not overly priced! The staff at the front desk were friendly and the cleaning ladies did a wonderful job of making up our room daily(comfy bed pillow)The manager Carlos was a great guy! Wifi was plentiful and had to be close to 15 routers on the property, best of all it worked 75% of the time on the beach. The beach is great for where you are in the world, let's face it you didn't come to Peru for the beach did you? This isn't Thailand! If you are visiting huanchaco and these rooms are in your budget, look no further! Keep up the hard work, prices fair and this hotel will fill up consistently!

Review 37:The wi-fi in the room did not work, and in spite of reporting it twice, no change over 3 days. Good connection at reception though, and it didn´t bother me much on this trip. A bit uninspired breakfast (white toast and eggs) - no fruit, OK coffee though.

Review 38:Great location, in the quieter north end of town. Being new the bed was great and all in excellent condition.Let´s hope it stays like this. Staff was all very friendly (but a bit uncoordinated, not sharing all information with colleagues as one would expect at the price and category - let´s hope this is simply a teething problem of a new place with great potential)

Review 39:Restaurant was not yet open, looks like it's going to be excellent food.

Review 40:Well decorated with good taste. Spacious rooms, and well located right by the beach.

Review 41:The bath needs the sliding portions remove as it was very difficult to get in and out of the bath and there was no slip mat which made it even more dangerous. Even though the hotel is new they seem to be having staff issues so the receptionist doubles as a waitress and sometimes cook. The breakfast was nothing to rave about except for the naturally squeezed juice.

Review 42:The room overlooked the beach and had a balcony. The bed was very large (king bed) and comfortable

Review 43:The bathroom: it was dirty (long hair everywhere), there was no water pressure, the mirror was situated way too low and the toilet was situated very badly; it was facing a wall so you couldn't sit on it decently (you had to sit sideways). Advertised patio was nowhere to be found. Unprofessional staff; the lost the copy of our passports and the front desk employee kept his loud techno music playing from the computer during checkout. There was a lot of (drilling)noise echoing through the building.

Review 44:We were allowed to check in a couple of hours earlier. Good beds. Toiletries.

Review 45:The hotel is less than 3 months old but already some of the facilities are broken/damaged, especially in the bathroom - broken toilet seat, rusty sink and no proper running water from the shower. The architecture of the room is bizarre. There is not enough space to sit on the toilet properly. There is a windows that looks directly into the shower from the corridor and the TV/phone seemed to have been added as an afterthought. The floors and pool were not always cleaned. The place had the potential to be a nice hotel but needs work and maintenance.

Review 46:Friendly, attentive staff. Gave us a late checkout (6pm). Outdoor pool and 24 hr bar.

Review 47:Breakfast beggan at 8 am, it's too late.

Review 48:very kind staff, excellente serviece. Water in swimming pool was cold, but they took 5 hours to warm it up, so I could swim finally.

Review 49:Loud loud construction noise at 6:30 am. Noisier than a 5 dollar hostel. Wish I would have stayed at hostel for one tenth the price. So so location.

Review 50:pool needs a clean

Review 51:nice rooms ,very new ,big comfy beds

Review 52:The guy at checkout took about 30 min

Review 53:Hotel construction and design mean that sounds echo throughout the building

Review 54:Superb beds, bed linens and towels. Friendly, efficient staff
