Reviews for Scenic Hotel Te Pania
Review 1:Shower over bath with a fabric curtain is annoying. No place to dry wet swimming gear. Expensive & not so great cooked breakfast - soggy white bread toast, tastless scrambled eggs, cheap awful sausages, flavoured cheap orange juice. This is an unnecessary let down for otherwise great stay. Suggestion: bring the breakfast into the 21st century instead of it still being stuck in the 90s NZ motel era - make the cooked breakfast eggs any style with a selection of fresh things to ad (avocado, tomato, chorizo, smoked salmon etc) get some decent bread and fresh juice.
Review 2:Great location + ocean spa across the street. Light, airy, well layed out and simply but tastefully furnished rooms. Fantastic beds and good linen. Airconditioning. Nice, warm lighting. Free wi-fi worked. Easy parking.
Review 3:Extremely uncomfortable mattress. Shower over the bath. Far too expensive for the standard of the facilities
Review 4:Well located close to the CBD with views out to sea. Convenient parking. Efficient staff.
Review 5:I was surprised that there were no kitchen facilities such as a sink, microwave, cutlery or plates. When we checked out, a group had eaten in the restaurant and charged everything to our room! Perhaps a system of needing to show your room key when charging meals might prevent this?
Review 6:The views and location were excellent and the room was very clean. The beds were comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was great.
Review 7:We loved everything about this motel. It was the best we stayed in during our 6-week north island of NZ holiday. We loved the location, the staff, the room (clean, modern, everything we needed), the Wifi, the laundry, the ice machine, the beds and even the linen. Can't stop raving about our stay!
Review 8:Not really set up for children. It would have been great to have had somewhere for them to play safely.
Review 9:The beds were very comfortable and the Nepalese curry was delicious. Great location to watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve.
Review 10:Confusing breakfast experience with a menu and hot and cold buffet options. We ended up paying over $22 each when all some of our party wanted was a bowl of muesli or a single pastry. The staff in the restaurant need to be around to explain the different options.
Review 11:Location, comfortable rooms fantastic views from rooms!
Review 12:Bad Service from duty manager Sue. Poorly cleaned rooms on arrival Maintenance work with noise right next to our room. Really bad did not even ask or notify us. The facilities are very poor, I rather go to a Motel in Napier. I will never go back or recommend this hotel in my circle.
Review 13:Location
Review 14:The plumbing tried to misbehave.
Review 15:The view from the room is amazing. Room was comfortable. The restaurant had a good breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location.
Review 16:Having stayed at many other venues in Napier and in particular, along the Marine Parade we felt that the price was definitely on the high side.
Review 17:Great views
Review 18:When checking out one fo the 2 ladies at reception was quite rude to me. She didnt seem the same towards other people. All that came to my head was racist!!! Really let down a great experience at the hotel :(
Review 19:Location. Value for money.
Review 20:Not bad - but would have liked plates knives forks etc - and micro wave would have been great - we like to cater for ourselves
Review 21:Alwyas love coming here - location is fab - like being able to open window at night - tho there were a few noisy folk out there this last stay
Review 22:The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. I loved the bowl of apples! As a frequent traveller, I really appreciate that at your hotel, I am not greeted at the door of my room by the artificial stink of cleaning chemicals.
Review 23:Front of house staff were not that welcoming. Efficient but not warm and welcoming. I felt I needed to talk to them to warm them up. Reverse front of house!
Review 24:Location handy to city.
Review 25:When watching TV - the volume controls were set to different levels for each channel which meant when changing channels you were having to consistently adjust the volume. Menu prices seems a little high.
Review 26:Since my room was connecting room ,there was some noise from the neighbors.
Review 27:Clean room and nice bed as other Scenic hotels. Reception with hospitality
Review 28:Over zealous staff in the lead up to check out - had 3 different staff members knocking on the door in the last 15 minutes before 10am.
Review 29:Very clean and tidy. Great location.
Review 30:We requested a walk-in shower and two beds. The room as requested was ready on arrival. We were attending a funeral across the road and were allowed to have a late checkout at no extra charge.
Review 31:Only blemish for me in room 517 on night of 21/09/15 was the radio alarm going off at midnight- not set by me but by ? previous guest or room service..
Review 32:Good balance of above factors- particularly good location for my needs
Review 33:Hallway is a little echo-ey so a couple of disturbances when people were returning to their rooms - nothing major.
Review 34:Very friendly frontline staff, they had not received details of our booking from booking.com but it was not a problem and he (Sam) gave us a couple of drink vouchers which we had with our dinner. Nice touch.
Review 35:The staff and manager. I lost my keys and the manager went out of her way to help me find them. She was simply put, fantastic. She was so genuine and thorough in helping me I've told Spark management. With my job I've stayed in some of the best places in the world (well in America anyway). The service I got in Napier was the best I've experienced.
Review 36:The wine glass let the place down - had lipstick on it from a previous guest! And we could hear the guests in the next room consequently couldn't score as high as we'd like to.
Review 37:We loved the bed and the pillows!
Review 38:The room was starting to feel a little dated and the shower walls were quite dirty. Probably about $25 overpriced.
Review 39:Staff were very cheerful, attentive, and helpful when i needed something urgently scanned and emailed. Great location however, and pleasant stay.
Review 40:Saw the sunrise over the horizon in the early morning, and also the lights at night when we arrived looking out from the sixth floor. Parking was convenient. Staff in restaurant were very attentive and pleasant.
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:We loved the atmosphere and the friendly Staff who went out of their way to help my aged mother be comfortable and happy. My daughter and her friend felt like Princess' because of the attention they received. I'd recommend this Hotel to all
Review 43:Slow internet. There was lipstick on the wall and various scuff marks. The washbasin outlet needed to be cleaned properly.
Review 44:Location, windows could be opened for fresh air. Nice decor. Excellent coffee and tea available .
Review 45:Not so much a bad experience but it feels weird dining in restaurant when it is practically empty. Would be good to promote the restaurant to locals more.
Review 46:Handy to Marine Parade. 2 beds. Novelty of architecture.
Review 47:Lots of outside light overnight that the curtains didn't effectively block out
Review 48:Good sized twin room, comfy bed, friendly efficient staff, restaurant food is good but pricey
Review 49:Bathroom had urine on floor. I thought was water got some toilet paper to clean it up, toilet paper was yellow and black (clearly not been cleaned properly for a while) Then second urine puddle down the side of toilet. Put bath mat in front of toilet this ended up stained yellow and black. Went to have shower in morning shower gel nearly empty. They did clean well the next day.
Review 50:Some reception staff a little aloof and distant, others were great, all were efficient, frontline staff are very important to the weary traveller
Review 51:The beds the toiletries were fab Location. The restaurant View Parking was brilliant, will definitley return
Review 52:Had a crying baby next door. Asians on the phone to Asia ... could have heard them in Europe....!!! Not the hotel's issue.
Review 53:Location to restaurants and downtown area, including promenade. Walked everywhere.
Review 54:TV in the room was not working - but they gave us free WiFii instead so it worked and then we were shifted to another room.
Review 55:The hotel staff look after you and accommodate your special requests without fuss.
Review 56:Kids really enjoyed staying in hotel, and enjoyed view out across the water. Loved being ablessing to go to beach and hot pools. They also eyed yummy dinner in the exchange restaurant.
Review 57:Bed was extremely soft. We would never stay again on the sixth floor of this hotel as the extractor fans on the roof made it impossible to sleep until they shut off about midnight !
Review 58:Good location friendly staff plenty of parking etc
Review 59:beds were very soft, room very cramped for 2 adults and 2 children 11and 9, not really a family room. Room 414 ( I expect al X14 rooms) was very noisy as was in the lift lobby area with people coming and going with elevator action for what seems to be all night.
Review 60:Great location, friends staff
Review 61:We called mid-morning and the duty manager allowed us to check in early, which was great and much needed! Great views from the 6th floor. Very comfy bed.
Review 62:Parking was a bit difficult, but that was because of the busy weekend with the Horse of the year taking place
Review 63:Room was tidy and clean, quite modern and best part was a view of the beach front from our window on the 5th storey.
Review 64:The beds were only double, queen would be better, but they were comfortable.
Review 65:We liked the fact that this hotel was on the oceanfront, with beautiful views. Very handy location, within walking distance of main shopping centre.
Review 66:The staff were super friendly and efficient. The food in the restaurant was lovely. Great location, only a short stroll from everything. Plenty of space in the car park and the room was a good size.
Review 67:The only fault I would have if I had to have one would be on the breakfast selection, & quality of it. But I'm being super critical.
Review 68:The View from the room was across the ocean , to be one of the first people in the world to see the start of a new day was emotive. The Staff were excellent & unobtrusive .
Review 69:This was the last night of a two-week road trip; we had saved for months and our funds were in a debit card account. When we checked in, I was asked to provide a credit card. I explained that I did not have one, at which I was require to pay both rooms up front, and to leave a $100 bond on each room. I refused to pay the bond and it was reduced to one $100 bond for both rooms, with the proviso that "someone would come and empty the mini-bar". True to their word, a bellboy arrived within minutes with a big black rubbish bag and then proceeded to empty both mini bars. We were traveling with my 27 year old daughter who was visiting from abroad, and my partner's 19 year old daughter who is a Kiwi. It was a very unfortunate experience for us. If the hotel had taken the trouble to look, they might have seen that my partner, who is a doctor in clinical psychology, had stayed with them on previous occasions. We would not have absconded with their precious tots of cheap alcohol! A most unpleasant and unnecessary end to our lovely road trip, and one which left a sour note in our mouths for quite some time.
Review 70:Everything was fine except for being treated like potential criminals.
Review 71:I couldn't stay longer...:(
Review 72:Friendly staff (nothing was a problem)..Food in-house was lovely as were the breakfast buffets..Great views and centrally located.
Review 73:We booked a room for two adults and two children and were given a room with two VERY small double beds, it was a squeeze and a bad nights sleep sadly
Review 74:I liked the design of the hotel, every room facing the sea, genius! The staff were so helpful and friendly
Review 75:I didn't like the fact that house keeping were knocking on our door at 7: AM to clean the room on a Sunday. Also there was not enough parking bays at the hotel
Review 76:I liked the location and ability to wake to sunrises each morning. Catering staff were excellent. Morning staff at reception excellent.
Review 77:Didn't have a quick breakfast option, no mini-fridge, just the mini-bar.
Review 78:Location in Napier, clean, airy rooms; the VIEW was awesome of the beach from our room (s) We had a small problem with a leaking air conditioner, I went down to the front desk and let them know and they immediately moved us to a new room and even sent us an apology note with some chocolates. Extremely nice.
Review 79:Location was terrific. Rooms were spacious, we had interconnecting rooms for a family of 5, for two nights, it was lovely. Room service with a kids menu for tired travellers was a plus!
Review 80:Didn't have many facilities for young children eg, children tv channel No pool - they need to have an agreement with Ocean Spa for discount for hotel stayers as its $10 to visit Food expensive and no childrens menu
Review 81:Location was great, most things were in walking distant. Staff were very friendly
Review 82:very very uncomfortable bed. so lack of sleep was a major problem. slamming entry doors to rooms esp since a group of neighbours kept opening and closing them until 1am. can't you adjust them so they close softly? also soundproofing of rooms could be looked at. those same neighbours seemed to meet in the hallway and their conversations were easily heard - at 1am it wasn't what we wanted to hear!
Review 83:location, friendly staff, good restaurant
Review 84:Unfortunately, the duvet inner in my room was soiled on a corner (not nice). I turned the duvet back to front and upside down to avoid this.
Review 85:The hotel is next to the CBD and opposite the hot pools and swimming pools. Key things to do in Napier were close by. The bed was the most comfortable I've slept in.
Review 86:Nothing really
Review 87:My sister and I loved the twin room, comfortable beds and the view. The Manager of the restaurant was excellent and couldnt do enough to cater for our needs. The reception staff were friendly and helpful
Review 88:The bed is too soft for elderly clients like myself who may have back problems.
Review 89:The location, the helpfulness of staff and the hotel room being so spacious and with so many socket outlets for charging my appliances.
Review 90:Bed too soft. Ice machine and laundry right outside of room. Staff slamming doors and announcing mini bar while our toddler napped, (not in our room but all up and down the hall) Staff didn't even bother to check how things were or to esquire how the stay was. Seemed really busy even though they were doing nothing. Car park was always full.
Review 91:Location, price. General standard.
Review 92:Great location, handy to shops & local restaurants. Leave your soap, hand & body lotion and shampoo & conditioner at home as Te Pania has complimentary Earth Botanicals products in their rooms. Also available from the front desk for purchase in gift bags.
Review 93:no bath plug! needed a few more basics (like a reasonable knife in kitchen area). Felt it had gone downhill since last stay.
Review 94:great views and location
Review 95:We were celebrating with a romantic weekend away in Napier. I booked a luxury king room and it was just two twins pushed together creating a sink hole, a very uncomfortable sink hole. The room was small, you couldn't use the dresser it was so low, the sink backed up. The space was absolutely useless for a couple then hotel seems more suited to business people. When we checked in Sam was unhelpful and acted as though we were a burden to him. I would never stay here again and will steer my friends away from this hotel. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in!
Review 96:Casey was lovely and very helpful. The hotel and room was very clean.
Review 97:That we had to return home. ...
Review 98:We liked everything about the weekend at Te Panic. ..the close location to the town and the shops...the closeness to the sea and the beach and walks along the boardwalk, markets, friendly shop owners especially the 'Gather' wool shop...the superb room with the most divine feathertopped beds..the staff were friendly and helpful especially with our late night arrival following dancing to a local band at the 'Tipsy Whale'...would recommend this hotel to our friends and hopefully return to sample more fabulous times again in the near future!
Review 99:Too hot in the room and had trouble adjusting this with the air conditioner for some reason.
Review 100:Staff very accommodating, parking good, location great, views great.
Review 101:We stayed here whilst attending my Nephews engagement party and really enjoyed the sliding window giving us an unobstructed view of the beautiful waterfront and a lovey sea breeze. Very handy to town and a relaxing walk along the waterfront.
Review 102:we had a nice stay in the hotel. All our wishes (room in upper floor and journey with a 4.5 year old kid) became true, friendly stuff. If we have the next trip to napier we will come back.
Review 103:Great modern motel in a perfect location.I have stayed here previously for business and as there was an opportunity to take a holiday with my wife I knew she would enjoy the same service which I have done on each visit. We live in Australia and thoroughly enjoyed the stay
Review 104:our heat pump wasn't working as it got quite hot when the sun came through which meant that we lost the view because it was too hot to open the curtains and the people that were in the room next door were very loud at 3am in the morning they woke both myself and my 2 year old son they gave him a fright he fell off the bed. I heard a staff member intervene after 30 minutes as he would have heard the noise from downstairs as we were 2nd or 3rd from the top floor.
Review 105:I love the beds and the pillows it was like sleeping on a cloud.
Review 106:The only thing I didn't like was with the studio suites you had to wash your cups etc in the hand basin in the bathroom.
Review 107:The view was great and next door is a really nice restaurant, it was easy walking distance to the museum and the shops
Review 108:Love this location as you can walk everywhere and no taxi home after dinner. Rooms all have a view and they are a good size, clean and well maintained. The free WiFi and parking were excellent. Friendly and helpful staff, what more could you want?
Review 109:WiFi offering was very poor
Review 110:The hotel location was very good. The hotel room was very neat and tidy and clean. Enjoyed the stay. Sad part was we booked in only for 1 night. Would love to go back for a longer stay.
Review 111:Reception staff-usual book in procedures and..."here's your key & room number". Stepping over a bath into the shower with a nylon shower curtain. Mattress too soft for us, prefer firm. Not sure how old this hotel is but some of the furniture looked a little worn. Only mentioning this as, for the money you pay we expect good quality.
Review 112:Love the architecture of this hotel. Room on the 4th floor. Watching the thundering of the ocean waves, spectacular! Cleanliness very good. Nice touch with toiletries. Dinner in the restuarant was most enjoyable and loved the presentation. Waitstaff very attentative. Breakfast average but waitperson very good.
Review 113:Unfortunately our bed was a disaster! Saggy with big indents either side. Double sheets on a King bed. Noisy, slamming doors all night. No view from 4th floor.... Large, ugly tree blocking many rooms. Wireless internet not acceptable... Slow and intermittent.
Review 114:Great location, fantastic restaurant and friendly staff.
Review 115:Art Deco, beach, great parks for kids, cafe's and restaurants, beautiful view from our room, excellent accomodation, friendly staff, great shops especially the vegetarian shop.
Review 116:Didn't like the after hour dinner, thought there room for improvement. Some fresh garnish would be nice.
Review 117:Loved the clean comfy fresh bedding. Loved the all blacks staying
Review 118:Accepted the offer of a morning newspaper but it was not delivered to the room door. Had to go to reception to get one.
Review 119:Love the sea view. Off street parking. Close to city shops & cafes.
Review 120:Nothing bad to say!
Review 121:Views and comfy beds were top notch, couldn't of asked for more! Perfect for our weekend away!
Review 122:The bed was amazing so comfortable nice pillow loved it
Review 123:Great location and superb view from room 521. The manager was very friendly and helpful.
Review 124:Minor issue with parking spaces - low availability.
Review 125:Superb views and ideal location close to the centre of town.
Review 126:Nothing to note
Review 127:Comfort , location and staff
Review 128:Light, bright rooms, big fluffy towels. Close to shopping, eating and the beach
Review 129:Noice in the room from the exterior.
Review 130:Friendly staff, good location and good service
