Reviews for Casa Catò

Review 1:Great view. Small room but comfortable and large terrace to enjoy right outside. The owner Lisa and Leonore were very nice and attentive to guests needs. Make sure to arrive early enough to get help with baggage. 70 steps up from train station.

Review 2:Nothing much here to not like but be aware it's a climb to get there, but what isn't in Vernazza?

Review 3:Beautiful view, lovely helpful staff and rooms are well appointed and updated.

Review 4:What a wonderful four day stay my wife and I had at Casa Cato. Beautiful views from every room and very clean and comfortable accomodations. The owners, Lisa and Lorena, were splendid hosts and did everything to make our stay a joy. We look forward to a return visit.

Review 5:Not actually negative, but the climb to the property is not for the faint of heart! It's uphill from the train station - but luggage assistance is available!

Review 6:Wonderful ladies that own/run the hotel. Very helpful in every way - from any concerns you have to helping you plan your time in Cinque Terre.

Review 7:Great location in Vernazza, situated above other buildings. Has great views from all rooms, which all look over the town to the sea. Has 6 to 8 units, clean and modern. Owners Lisa and Lorena are gracious hosts who enjoy preparing a tasty continental breakfast on the patio to start the day, and they provide useful tips for places to see and where to eat. We'll be back!

Review 8:It's very near the train station, but you get used to it. The view is worth it.

Review 9:Beautiful room with a gorgeous view! Our host, Lisa, was so friendly and helpful. Great patio for relaxing in the evening.

Review 10:We liked everything. The room was awesome and modern. Our host was super nice, gracious, and informative, the view was stunning. Exactly what we were looking for! Completely worth yhe cost.

Review 11:The only drawback to this otherwise charming hotel was the trek via stairs to reach it. But I am 60 and have had two hip replacements and I made it. And, most hotels in the Cinque Terra will require some type of climb to reach them. If requested, a man from the train station will carry the luggage to the hotel upon arrival.

Review 12:Spotless and functional rooms for travelers. Staff eager to help and full of information. Lovely view from our small balcony outside the room. Close to town and train station. Great air conditioner for AC addicted Americans.

Review 13:Wonderful location in Vernazza with a view that cannot be beat! Lisa and Marina are caring hosts who go out of their way to make you feel at home. Breakfast was quite good featuring Marina's homemade spice cakes!

Review 14:All was very good.

Review 15:The hostess Lisa was warm and helpful as was the breakfast assistant Lorena who spoke better English. The house is difficult to get to but the views from the room are superb. Driving there is not recommended but we didn't know. The train is right there. Lisa and her husband helped me find parking and also helped me drive out as there are many winding roads on very high cliffs to get there.

Review 16:Everything was perfect!

Review 17:Unbelievable view from the balcony! Beautiful rooms, nice modern bathroom. The owner and the other employees were incredibly friendly and they can give you a lot of advice about where to eat or what to do during the day. Definitely recommended, I would always come back here!!

Review 18:Every room has amazing balcony views. The rooms are renovated bottom to top with high-end finishes and excellent soundproofing. The rooms are small but are decorated so simply and elegantly that they seem larger. There is good storage and the bathrooms are modern and excellent. Beautiful towels and linens. Lisa and Lorena are the most delightful hosts--so helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Cato.

Review 19:Helpful friendly staff who readily gave very useful information and assistance. The arrival process was exceptionally easy. The view was fabulous. The breakfast balcony, which we used one evening for a take out pizza and wine was fantastic.I would highly recommend this facility to any traveller. Do not be put off by the closeness of the railway station------you are on holiday, relax, and you will sleep, I did. (ear plugs are provided, but I did not need to use!)

Review 20:None really. The breakfast terrace was great in fine weather while we were there but would not work well in wet weather.

Review 21:Modern facilities, well-fitted out room. Excellent, high location with view down along main street out to sea beyond. Lisa and Lorena were great hosts. Just a few minutes walk down steep hillside to rail station.

Review 22:The fact that they wasn't enough space to open the suitcase The room is a bit small

Review 23:This stuff are very welcome mean and nice and we go out of the way for you to make sure that you're comfortable and content there the view was spectacular very charming

Review 24:Location is a bit up the hill but the view is worth it. Close to the train station so you do hear them.

Review 25:Place is beautifully renovated, Lisa is a great host, very friendly. Views from the terraces are amazing. Nice A/C units, good WIFI. Breakfast is OK.

Review 26:Vernazza was our favourite town in Cinque Terre, but be warned that the train station is in the centre of town (plus Casa Cato is close to the station) and the town has two churches with bells that chime regularly. But the noise was the only downside of our stay, and both the trains and bells stop at about 10 or 11 at night.

Review 27:The service from Lorena was fantastic. We started each morning with breakfast on the terrace - cereal, coffee, croissants and home made goodies - and Lorena would talk through our plans for the day, giving us her tips and advice.

Review 28:The rooms were classy, spacious and daily service was excellent. The breakfast was more than adequate. Most of all, the owner and hostess were willing to help in any way. Very patient and friendly. The view from our room and from the terrace are astounding. This is where we will stay if we ever have the opportunity to return!

Review 29:The breakfast was not nice.

Review 30:The view from our room!! The room was nice as well and also the communal terrace with tables was lovely. The owners were really helpful. Wifi was very fast.

Review 31:loved the breakfast, the very modern room, the beautiful view. The hostess is very helpful. there are stairs but when you meet for the key they help with the bags if you need. beautiful room design.

Review 32:This place was amazing and made our stay in the Cinque Terre even better. The view from all the rooms overlooks the picturesque village of Vernazza. The private patio next to the rooms was lovely to sit at and relax with some gelato in the evenings.

Review 33:We didn't realize you can't drive to this hotel until after we booked it. So we had to leave our rental car behind and take a train to get here, arriving quite late. The hotel was nice enough to have someone meet us at the train; otherwise, we never would have found the place. Also, the hotel room was quite costly for us, translating into about $300 in our currency. No hotel is worth that much! The hotel overlooks the train station, so you do hear the trains.

Review 34:The hotel has a neat location and a great view. The two ladies who run it are very nice and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the room was lovely.

Review 35:Professional. Courteous. Helpful . Be sure to send the specifics of the baggage handling a few days before guests arrive. ( to be sure the guests have them)

Review 36:The train tracks were below the hotel so it was a bit noisy but no trouble sleeping at night. The elevated hotel with a terrace certainly was worth it!

Review 37:Beautiful surroundings, breathtaking views and great hiking. Excellent dining as well.

Review 38:I loved Casa Cato--it was an easy climb which offered an amazing view of Vernazza and the sea!!! The room was lovely--great bed, bathroom, wifi and breakfast. They arrange to have someone carry your luggage up from train station for a small fee. My husband has a bad knee and did not find the climb too hard--it was worth it for the view!!!! Loved it and the owner and lady who was there during breakfast were very nice and helpful. Really enjoyed our stay!!!!

Review 39:The room was small and the bathroom was tiny. There was mold on the bathroom ceiling. We could not get the air-conditioner to work. Although we contacted the hotel at least 2 weeks in advance, we did not get info on how to get baggage service/ late afternoon checkin until the afternoon before our arrival, causing miscommunication and stress. How hard would it be to tell us earlier to go to the gift shop in the train station?

Review 40:Lisa and Loraina were very friendly and helpful. The location and outside deck were very nice.

Review 41:There are some stairs to climb with your luggage, but you're in Cinque Terre, be ready to climb stairs!

Review 42:Vernazza is the best city to stay in, the hotel is up some stairs, but gives great views once youre there and is very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing and Loraina and Lisa were very helpful and accommodating.

Review 43:There was really nothing to complain about.

Review 44:The view is to die for. Our room was great. The staff were very helpful and freindly. Thank God for the luggage porter service.

Review 45:Amazing views, spotlessly clean, very friendly and accommodating staff (job well done Lisa and Lorraina!), rooms stocked with all the little extras to make you feel at home, beautiful breakfasts on the patio, after a long walk and tired legs relaxing on the patio

Review 46:It can be perceived as heavy to carry the luggage to the hotel (it is steep!) but you can receive help with this if you arrive in time and arrange this with the staff.

Review 47:Vernazza is situated quite centrally in the Cinque Terre and this small hotel is located very close to the train station. The rooms are small but modern and clean. The staff is lovely and helpful in every way.

Review 48:Best location in Vernazza. The rooms are super clean. It has a lovely terrace for breakfast and plenty of nice coffee. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Review 49:You can hear the trains from the place, but because it is a small rural area you can hear the trains from anywhere in the cinque terre.

Review 50:Very cosy - perfect view. Clean and comfortable. Amazing shower. On a good foot path and easy to get to town and train station. Really lovely welcome and friendly staff. They were very helpful with getting around. Lovely balcony.

Review 51:Website mentions coffee, tea, chocolate, and yogurt. No yogurt, no chocolate, and only instant coffee. Minor complaint given how wonderful everything else was.

Review 52:Terrific rooms, location, wifi, cleanliness, and friendliness.

Review 53:Some stairs but hey u gotta expect it in Cinque Terre especially if you want the view !! I recommend going in summer tho !

Review 54:Not enough space to write all the good !!! If you can get over the stairs which aren't too bad wow !! The room!! The beds are so comfortable !! The balcony over looking the ocean ! Everything was perfect !!! Great staff too !!!

Review 55:My husband and I had a fantastic stay at Casa Cato in Vernazza! Excellent location, beautiful view, clean accommodations and a very comfortable bed...perfect!

Review 56:Location above train station may be noisy for some, but it didn't bother us and I'm a light sleeper. The shower was very narrow and could be limiting for a larger sized person. Neither of these things were a problem for us! Great place to stay!

Review 57:One of the most comfortable beds we slept in during our whole trip. A beautiful view from the terrace and the room. Extremely clean and friendly and accommodating staff. I would definitely stay here again!

Review 58:Loved our stay and wished we had booked longer. Train line close but we got used to it. Wonderful location close to great restaurants and amenities. Melbourne australia

Review 59:It was a tad noisy due to the proximity to the train station. I am a light sleeper I must say. Also, as there is a baggage service to bring the luggages up the many, many steps; this service should have been made known and arranged for us before arrival.

Review 60:The view from Casa Cato and the host, Lisa. Lisa is an accommodating, friendly and pleasant host in picturesque vernazza.

Review 61:The room was a little small. There are lots of steps up to get there, but we knew that so we were only carrying backpacks. They offered to meet us at the train if we needed help with luggage.

Review 62:The balcony door opens up to the most beautiful view of the town of Vernazza and the sea. The room is very modern with large updated bathroom. They served a great breakfast out on the patio overlooking the town. What a view! Close to great restaurants and the Cinque Terre trail. The owner let us store our backpacks after checkout so that we could explore the area more. They were all very nice and spoke English.

Review 63:A bit close to the railway, but surprised at how efficient the doors were.

Review 64:On our second day of a five day stay we were evacuated due to extreme rain and risk of landslide. The staff were most helpful and strongly suggested we moved on before the railways stoped operating. A sign of good honest management.....we we will be making a recommendation to our friends. We will simply have to return to complete our walks....

Review 65:Water pressure from the shower is not that strong. (Tiny comment)

Review 66:Stunning view from the room. Helpful staffs w/ service mind Free Breakfast Service Close to trekking path to Corniglia.

Review 67:We didn't mind being close to the train station during the day but some trains ran during the early hours of the morning and woke us up. It was quite a workout to take luggage up the stairs. You need to be in pretty good shape.

Review 68:We loved the beautiful view from our room and the terrace. A cold breakfast was offered each morning as well as coffee/tea. Lisa was so helpful with everything during our stay. It is quite a few stairs up but we didn't mind it.

Review 69:Not much. Room maybe on the small side but enough room to be comfortable. Bathroom very spacious. Bit of stairs, 50, but hotel meet us at train and carried our bags up. Fun walk up. Worth the view!!!

Review 70:Wonderful staff attentive great breakfast. Beautiful water and town View. Location in heart of town. Nice room, French doors, balcony, large bathroom and shower. Modern.

Review 71:The staff were friendly and helpful in arranging our transport of baggage back to the train station. Good service and helpful in arranging private water boat tour.

Review 72:Do not drive there. Take the train. The owners were very accommodating and picked us up. They are so nice.

Review 73:The owners are so nice. The little hotel is so cute and very new. The view is amazing. We loved it and will return.

Review 74:You have to climb quite a few steps up to reach the hotel but it's just how you get the breathtaking view! Besides it's Vernazza, there are steps absolutely everywhere and Casa Cato has the best location of all!

Review 75:This place is ideal for romantic holiday. Our room was modern and decorated with great taste. It was equipped with everything we needed. The view from the balcony over the roofs of the town and to the sea was stunning. The breakfasts on the terrace were also very pleasant.

Review 76:The only thing I wished was different was the length of our stay! We stayed 3 nights but could have stayed longer :)

Review 77:Casa Cato is a true gem and made our stay in the Cinque Terre a memorable one! The location is fantastic and views from the room are breathtaking. My husband and I loved being in Vernazza, and think this is the best of the 5 terres (although we didn't make it to Riomaggiore). Vernazza has a lot of character and great dining. We took Lisa's and Giacomo's recommendations for dinner and were very happy with them. The rooms were roomy and very clean. But beyond that, the views from the room overlook the town and the sea, it was great waking up every morning to them. We ate breakfast every day on the terrace (which was included in the price). The terrace also had amazing views and coffee was delicious. I would recommend this location to anyone! Stop looking and book, this is a one of kind location. Thanks for everything Lisa and Giacamo!

Review 78:Our stay in Casa Cato was wonderful and exceeded all our expectations. The location was fabulous - on the hill overlooking the whole town giving us magnificent views from our room and the terrace where we had breakfast and late afternoon drinks. Through our door we looked across the rooftops to the Mediterranean Sea and mountains beyond - just gorgeous. The room was clean, light and bright and wifi was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, Lisa and Giacomo, who gave tips and advice to all the guests to help make their individual stay more special. We would definitely recommend staying here to anyone coming to Vernazza

Review 79:Nothing! :)

Review 80:The staff was extremely kind and helpful - they went out of there way to help us with our plans and activities. The view was spectacular, the breakfast was delicious and the room was clean and comfortable. Thank you!

Review 81:It is above the train station, however I am a light sleeper and it didn't bother me. It just sounds like a strong fan or air vent.

Review 82:This was my absolute favorite stay in Italy. The view from the rooms at Casa Cato is amazing! After a long day of walking, I would just sit on the terrace and take in the view. The staff went above and beyond. The hotel is up a number of stairs, but it is very worth it. The rooms are newly renovated and very clean. Lovely bathroom. Comfortable bed. If I am lucky enough to come back to the Cinque Terre, I will definitely stay here.

Review 83:I absolutely loved my room. Location and views were brilliant! The hosts were excellent and always made me feel comfortable. I absolutely loved my stay there. The room facilities were all very new and kept very clean. I did not want to leave.

Review 84:The walk up to the hotel. If only the owners would set up a facility to help passengers with their luggage from the Vernazza car park so save them having to walk the 1km down with bags - we would happily have paid for this service if it had been available. That said, they do very kindly meet you in the town and help you with your luggage up the steps to the hotel.

Review 85:Lovely, well furnished rooms, much nicer than the website suggests Modern bathrooms wifi Satellite tv Friendly, helpful staff Trendy outside seating area

Review 86:That I could not stay one more day...

Review 87:Beautiful view. Sweet and very friendly owners. Crispy clean room and very high quality of linen and amenites. Very rare to find towels from Frette at a Pensione. Can only recommend this gem to anyone.

Review 88:The hikes were not all open. hope they get them repaired in future.

Review 89:Clean renovated room. Great morning breakfast on patio close to the train station. staff friendly and accomodating.

Review 90:Lovely well appointed room with gorgeous picturesque view from balcony. We were met at the train station by Lisa's husband who helped us carry our suitcases up the numerous stairs to the hotel. Simple but excellent breakfast.

Review 91:Cold spartan breakfast. They have no kitchen. Also no staff is available during the day after breakfast so we had to go down and ask for help to call them when we arrived. There were no phones in the room either. The trains were running below us till late at night.

Review 92:Clean modern room with TV and Wi Fi. Excellent view of the sea. Very kind and helpful staff.

Review 93:Nothing!

Review 94:I was impressed that I booked last minute and Lisa was waiting for us at the train station, open our room and got us a table for dinner all in 5 minutes before they closed at 10 pm on a Monday night. We had been traveling for hours from DC and she made our first night amazingly easy after, thanks...other then that, the location is has a great view and anything you need for a holiday in the Cinque Terre. Vernazza was a lucky choice also. Great town to stay in out of the 5 in my opinion. So much more to say! Basically it was all good!

Review 95:We were very pleased on arrival at Casa Cato. Booking online is always a gamble, we got lucky this time! Great staff...Lisa and Jacque were very accomodating and friendly. Breakfast on the terrace was perfecto!

Review 96:Not sure the "superior" rooms are worth the additional money...benefit of a private balcony and slightly better view than the rooms on the level below...beds not as comfortable as the "standard" room (which had memory pillows and a better mattress)....I think also for the price, Lisa and Giacomo should consider serving fresh breads/croissants etc for breakfast...wouldn't cost that much and would make the breakfasts more appealing and better standard than the cafe bars which we ended up having to use...small touch would make all the diffetence

Review 97:Casa Cato is in an excellent location...stunning views over the village and looking out to the bay....Giacomo and Lisa were the perfect hosts...very helpful and attentive....the rooms are good quality and the location alone is worth paying a little extra for....

Review 98:Vernazza is an amazing and beautiful spot to spend time and relax - Casa Cato was a clean nice - although small place to stay - very nice staff and a great time

Review 99:Breakfast could have been more rich; if you sleep late and miss it - don't be sad:)

Review 100:To me, Vernazza is the most beautiful place in 5Terre, and Casa Cato is brilliantly located within 5 min walk from the train station and the harbour. Very helpful personnel - thanks Giacomo and Lisa! Excellent view Nice and cosy rooms with all one would need + new clean bathroom

Review 101:There were The hotel was above the train station, literally 73 steps up. You need to have light luggage and be fit. The trains also came at 5.30am so no restful sleep. Breakfast was on the verandah which was not good in wet & windy weather. Perhaps a bit expensive but limited choice in Vernazza with modern bathrooms. The

Review 102:The view from the hotel verandah was excellent in Vernazza. Lisa & Giacomo were very helpful and excellent hosts. Wifi was strong.

Review 103:This small 6-room guesthouse offers probably the best view of the town that you can get. It is close to to the railway station and very easy to find. The owner, Lisa, is very friendly and hospitable. The rooms are all brand new and very clean.

Review 104:Having to leave!

Review 105:Location - magnificant views from balcony Staff - Lisa & Giacamo went over and above their duties ensuring we got to Genoa airport during train strike Wonderful breakfast Excellent facilities incl fridge, wi fi, TV Situated in prettiest village with great restaurants

Review 106:Lisa & Giacomo are extremely nice and helpful. the house is just next to train station and close to everything. Room is very new and clean. I strongly recommend. Not so cheap, but in line with prices in 5 terre and consistent with with excellent service.

Review 107:They don't have a swimming pool jajajaja ! Will be perfect on The terrace a small One !

Review 108:I liked so much terrace view Breakfast is good ! I suggest to go by couple "lovers" It is no far down town and train station it's closed Before to get there ! When you drop off The train calles them , they pick you up ! A few stairs to get upstairs But one's you get there Beautiful

Review 109:We enjoyed everything. If I had to pick something that I didn't like I guess it would have to be breakfast. Only sweets and pastries but we didn't expect anything because they didn't charge us for it! So, no complaints on breakfast either.

Review 110:Lisa was Great, and the whole experience was made better because of our stay here. The view from our room was the best in town. We just got back from Italy and will have more to say about Casa Cato' on our blog eatwritepacklight.com.

Review 111:Close to the train station - close the doors at night and you will not be disturb.

Review 112:Perfect location with wonderful view of the village and bay area. Lisa and Giacomo helped out with all details and tips for things to see/do. Big bathroom and newly renovated rooms. Close to the train station although you need to climb some steps.

Review 113:The rooms are perfect, with views out to the ocean and down the prettiest of streets of Vernazza. The train station is close and very convenient. Most importantly, the staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to direct us and help us make the most of Cinque Terre. Would definitely recommend. Thanks Caso Cato, Kate & Ange

Review 114:The WiFi was sporadic.

Review 115:The location is easily accessible but away from the crowd. The host and hostess provided excellent service. Both Lisa, the owner, and Giacomo, the staff were attentive to our needs, giving great tips on transportations and Liza even made restaurant reservations on our behalf. The casa is newly remodeled with nice decor. We love the breakfast area on the patio overlooking the ocean. All in all, we highly recommend this great place. One tip: arrange a pick up from Lisa when you get to town. It will keep you from getting lost.

Review 116:Friendly owners, good breakfast, good location.

Review 117:Noisy location

Review 118:Lovely room, nicely appointed, friendly staff

Review 119:Absolutely fantastic stay! Loved breakfast on the patio with the views of the harbor. Will definitely go back!
