Reviews for Castelmar Hotel

Review 1:The pool is very tiny.

Review 2:The position right in the historic center is great. The stuff was super friendly and helpful. The building is very well mantained and very clean. Beautiful colors and details. The room was basic, a bit dark as it had no window (I believe it was the only one), but the thick walls isolated us from noises and the template was quite cool. Breakfast in the inner court is very nice.

Review 3:Very rude staff, we were put in the wrong room and very rudely transferred after we already unpacked our luggage. Room smelled and was quite small.

Review 4:Location, value for money.

Review 5:The clerk tried to upsell me to a more expensive room when I arrived. I asked to check out the room I reserved and the "better" room to make the choice. The clerk said it was thier policy to not show rooms until payment was made. I then asked if each room had wi-fi. Clerk said only in common areas. At that point, I left.

Review 6:Good location

Review 7:It would have been better to have breakfast included.

Review 8:It is centrally located with off-street parking. The staff are very consciencious and the rooms are traditional colonial style.

Review 9:This hotel was really lovely, unfortunately we only had one night there but would definitely stayed there longer if we had time. Nice staff, beautiful surroundings - I would recommend

Review 10:Don't leave your bag under the air conditioner in your room it seems to leak a lot of water.

Review 11:Great swimming pool. We arrived early after overnight bus not much sleep and wanting to freshen up. Staff made washing facilities available and looked after our luggage until room available. Great breakfast.

Review 12:Street noise was a constant problem - we had a " superior room " but no wifi ( only in lobby )

Review 13:Lovely traditional building in a really good location for exploring the historic town centre

Review 14:A 15 minute walk to the Central Square so be prepared to walk…or to take a taxi wherever you go…30 pesos each way. And you can’t just pop back to your hotel if you forgot something. Restaurant is only open for breakfast so you have to go out to eat for lunch and dinner. But that wasn’t a problem since there are plenty of eating establishments nearby.

Review 15:A well kept and well decorated 2 story property with a Spanish Colonial feel. On a quiet street A beautiful Open courtyard garden where you can relax, read, or work at patio tables. Electrical outlets everywhere so you can plug in your laptop. No need to hang out in your room. Good speedy internet in rooms and in courtyard…good enough for Netflix Limited neighborhood shopping and a few restaurants around the corner if you need cheese, fruits or snacks. A small bar near the lobby that opens in the afternoon till 10:30 pm where you can hang out and meet friends. Laundry nearby if you need to have your clothes washed for a reasonable rate. Breakfast was 50 pesos per person (or included depending on your booking) with a nice patio or inside restaurant on the 2nd floor. But the coffee is pretty weak Their “hot” water is really hot. The hottest in any hotel I’ve ever stayed at.

Review 16:I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Fantastic location and setting within the old walls. And the hotel itself is so tastefully decorated whilst keeping it's old colonial features. Huge room with high ceiling and wooden beams across the top. Staff were fantastic and had very good English which helped us a lot! Had to pay for breakfast in the courtyard area but it was fairly priced and was lovely. Wifi just about reached to our room but was strong on the lobby and first floor 'lobby' area. Overall I would stay here every time I visited this wonderful city!

Review 17:I had booked (and pre-paid) their best grade of room months in advance. On arrival we were shown to a windowless cell. On objecting we were toldthat only by paying for upgrade to a Junior Suite could we have awindow. I knew we were being lied to and shafted but we'd pre-paidso were over a barrel. The room we were then given was exactly the roomI'd booked. It was still so basic! No fridge, no daylight into theroom unless the doors to the street were actually open; tiny rubbishbathroom (cheap amenities basket glued down - as if you'd ever wantto steal such junk!). The most uncomfortable beds ever, and turned intosweat buckets by plastic backed mattress covers - ugh! Not that we weregetting much sleep anyway, as the Security Guards at the ParliamentBuilding opposite squawked into their walkie-talkies at a thousanddecibels all night. The pool area is full with four and there are no other comfortable sitting areas anywhere in the hotel. Moreover, beyond a disgraceful cheap motel breakfast there is NO food or beverage service of any kind. This is not deserving of the title 'hotel'. Stay there at your peril.

Review 18:The location is good and the building is interesting and has been verywell restored. It has a carpark.

Review 19:1. Breakfast is not as expected You will have 3-4 variants to choose from and that's all I would expect more fruits than just banana and apples (as it's Mexico) 2. Pillows are uncomfortable - tough and flat

Review 20:Clean Big shower Natural shower products Very friendly personnel Free parking (very good because its impossible to park in the center) Free wifi

Review 21:too bad the room didnt have any windows but luckely there was a good fan and airconditioning

Review 22:excellent location, free parking across the hotel. good breakfast for 60 pesos

Review 23:No wifi in the room but just outside but it doesn't really matter

Review 24:Very central location in the heart of the charming city of Campeche, a nice patio and swimming pool, huge space in the room, perfect with 2 children

Review 25:The restaurant acroos yne street was not great.

Review 26:Bring in a walled town, a lovely spacious room, a great pool to cool off in, and a great massage that the hotel arranged for.

Review 27:Although polite, the stuff didnt really go out of there way to be too friendly, considering we only communicated in spanish

Review 28:The hotel is pretty and you get a sense of history

Review 29:The only thing that wasn't great was the bed. We are more a softie kind of bed and this one was very firm. Other than that the hotel was very special.

Review 30:The staff was fantastic; the location perfect; restaurant recommendations super, breakfast reasonably priced and good. Definitely recommend.

Review 31:While our room was huge and beautiful it was on the corner of the intersection so was very noisy at night.

Review 32:Huge corner room, big bed, great shower, love the colonial feel Lovely staff Gorgeous sitting in the courtyard or by the small pool

Review 33:Location is perfect. Nice hotel restored in 2004. Small but good swimming pool. Breakfast at the patio. Standard rooms are relatively small and have a window on the patio side. We booked a very spacious junior suite, well worth the extra money.

Review 34:Room had no windows and smelled musty. Bed was incredibly uncomfortable. We are generally confidant that we will enjoy a hotel with a rating over 8 but this hotel was very disappointing.

Review 35:Staff were lovely and very helpful. Location was amazing.

Review 36:I was travelling with a rental car. The booking information says that there is free parking. However you don't realize that there is limited parking space. As you arrive you become aware of this. But then someone can say "Don't worry we have always managed to help our customers out to find some place for their cars or on the street parking".. or they can say "You are on your own, what we got is what we got, take it or leave it, etc. etc.". Who knows if the person at the reception who talked to me like this woke up on the wrong side or this type of stuff is representative of the type of behavior typical at this place. But it is what I got and I throw it into the pot for anyone to take a look. I have the name of that individual who talked like that but I will not put it in here!!

Review 37:I was not there too long to describe what could be nice about this hotel. It looks like there are many hotels of this type in a colonial setting.

Review 38:Poor internet.

Review 39:Liveable and inviting patio, nice helpful staff, plunge pool for relaxing. Breakfast available even if you don't choose to partake.

Review 40:The room the hotel offered us was right beside (and I mean actually a part of) the breakfast area. There wasn't even a hallway separating the room. The room was very small. Added to that, the room had no window! Talk about a fire trap! There was a 'window' on the same wall as the door. It had shutters that opened to the eating area. Are you kidding me? !!! Open your bedroom to a room full of people eating.. forget sleeping in. I HATE it when hotels use these sites to flog the rooms no one would otherwise occupy for any number of reasons. We did NOT stay in this hotel.. It is a cheap money grubbing, rip off the tourist hotel. SHAME ON YOU!

Review 41:The location was good and what we saw of the lobby was good. The man on the desk was as helpful as he would have been allowed to be.

Review 42:The room was a bit disappointing as it was inside without any natural light unless one opened the top of the door with no Screen.

Review 43:Large clean rooms in a great location. Had a pool although I never used it. Helpful staff. Nice and quiet.

Review 44:Front room does not have WIFI -- was not told this in advance Pool is smaller than it looks in photos - is really a plunge pool Bandwidth in hotel does not support SKYPE

Review 45:Carlos is the best at reception -- very pro-active and helpful for logistics and recommendations Comfortable rooms, great AC

Review 46:Perfectly situated in the historic centre. Lovely inner courtyard for breakfast. A real colonial feel to the rooms and communial spaces. Good convenient parking.

Review 47:The hotel location is perfect. everything is clean. The hotel offers perfect massage services for additional reasonable price. There is also a sweaming pool on the territory.

Review 48:The shower was too low, and we are not tall people.... the air condition was too loud and the room smelled a bit weird

Review 49:The staff was great and very friendly, they gave us a room even though we arrived at 5 AM. location is great, only a few minutes walk to all the interesting places in the city.

Review 50:Bed was very very hard and threw out my shoulder and made arms numb. Stayed in junior room. It was noisy but we didnt mind that aspect at all. Great little place to stay and absolutely stunning historic rooms.

Review 51:Loved the decor and cleanliness. Pool was nice and staff very helpful and cheerful.

Review 52:Wi fi did not work in the rooms as they advertise .Room view not what I expected it looked out onto an office building therefore could not see the sea.

Review 53:The fact that it is close to the centre .The massage was great .Breakfast O K but with extra cost . Wi Fi good in the foyer .

Review 54:Comparatively expensive for what we were getting. Seems to be Compeche as a whole is expensive.

Review 55:Location is good, very close to old town center and the shore.

Review 56:breakfast should have been served as a part of the price but it was extra so we went to a little café down the road

Review 57:the rooms and the style, Spanish colonial. the courtyard was lovely. excellent location

Review 58:We got our room right next to the reception and in front of the central patio (i would guess that one third of the rooms have a similar issue) where the breakfast is served. So we got our early wake up by the noise of the reception and the breakfast. The personnel was not very cooperative to give us any other options. Keep in mind that most rooms will have a window only to this patio. They are dark and this does keep the rooms cool, but it doesn't make a very nice place to hang out.

Review 59:The central an shared spaces (patio) hall way and entrance look stunning and the location is great. Rooms are quite large but 'the finishing'.

Review 60:We have been charged twice for the room. I was told that my first card was rejected. Booking.com are trying to resolve this for me.

Review 61:The location of the hotel is good and the small pool is ideal for a cool off.

Review 62:Nothing much. I did not try the hotel restaurant nor the (tiny) swimming pool as the sun shines straight down on the pool even though you're between walls.

Review 63:Location near town center.

Review 64:THE NOISE DURING THE NIGHT CITY WORKS TO REBUILD THE WALLS JUST IN FRONT OF THE HOTEL TILL 1:37 pm do not take a room on the 2 streets, too noisy, ask a room on the back of the hotel, if not do not choose this hotel during the time of the works, many months or 1year, ask if the works are finished before booking, ANOTHER problem is the NOISE every mornings at 6:00 am ( for me it was 5:43 am ) with the truck for the garbages and the noise with the HORN BACK : very noisy you cannot sleep, hotel ask the city to change the time for garbage truck but they dońt arrive to change with the city : it is a big problem to be awakened at 6:00 am every mornings

Review 65:everything else is very good, it is a pity to have this problem of noise

Review 66:Must leave key at reception when you go out. Staff do room service and nightly turn down, sometimes at odd hours of day but the service is good. Wifi didn't work in our room, probably because of the thick concrete walls (which are original and give great character) but was very fast in the court yard. We had a room at the back of the hotel and the restoration works to the city walls were drilling until after 1am then restarted at 6pm which meant we got little sleep, then a band practised in the square for 3hours the next day when we were trying to rest to escape the heat. Perhaps ask to be at the front of the hotel where you can't hear this.

Review 67:Great location, friendly and accommodating staff, beautiful historic building. Thick concrete walls, high ceilings give great character. Aircon and fan in rooms - great to escape heat outside. Nice toiletries provided.

Review 68:No breakfast included in the price, so maybe a little bit pricey.

Review 69:Situation is perfect next to calle 59: a beautiful and colourfull street with nice restaurants and shops. Clean room, charming hotel, beds are Ok, nice bathroom with fine natural soaps and very good towels. Safe in the room. Wifi in the room, a bit slow but OK.

Review 84:The location is perfect, close to the Malecon and close to the central square. Beautiful old hotel with an excellent staff!

Review 85:There were no windows in superior room, breakfast is not included when the price is high for Mexican colonial cities.

Review 86:Wonderful old hotel in the beautiful old walled city of campeche

Review 87:Wifi poor, but quite nice to not be connected all the time!

Review 88:Location and restored old colonial building

Review 89:Lovely colonial building, in historic town centre, safe, quiet, elegant. Large, comfortable old-style rooms.

Review 90:The pool area was a bit oven-like. Would be better with more seating and more shade umbrellas.

Review 91:The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

Review 92:No hay acceso a Internet en las habitaciones

Review 93:The bed was small for two person and the mattres was not confortable.

Review 94:Nice colonial building. Well located.

Review 95:Room with no window. Had to pay before we were allowed to get our luggage! No town map available. Desk not very welcoming

Review 96:Location, colonial patio

Review 97:Wifi was only available in the main lobby although clearly there was a working router in our room...

Review 98:Great location, friendly staff and great room

Review 99:Staff was very helpful. Location was very good. Decor was excellent

Review 100:Musty room, no window. Room was downstairs off the courtyard where breakfast was held so a bit noisy.

Review 101:Friendly and helpful reception staff

Review 102:We have no complaints at all.

Review 103:The atmosphere of the hotel itself. Loved the decor and the staff very helpful and friendly. All was extremely clean.

Review 104:Breakfast was not good value for money.

Review 105:Location was very good. Staff was courteous and friendly.

Review 106:the fact Castlemar hotel isn't in other locations.

Review 107:Everything. Feeling special.

Review 108:Rooms had decent size, matresses were comfy. I particularly appreciated the staff who was very helpful in all situations.

Review 109:Smal bed. 1/2 days are enough for a stay in campeche.

Review 110:Location of the historical hotel, Bars and Restaurants Close by. Beautiful colonial style.

Review 111:nothing

Review 112:A very beautiful hotel in the center of the old town a few blocks from the water.

Review 113:Very nice place close to the city center. Wide room and clean.

Review 114:Noise during the night ! Wifi not accessible from the room

Review 115:Very Nice building Staff Localisation

Review 116:colonial style of the hotel authentic atmosphere location

Review 117:nothing to complain

Review 118:lovely hotel, comfortable rooms, good shower, very friendly staff

Review 119:No balcony and swimming pool was small

Review 120:Location near centre. Nice old building, beautifull renovated. Clean room

Review 121:Bed bit small

Review 122:Location Beauty of the place Pool Room ceiling

Review 123:Le petit déjeuner est bon mais peu de choix. Les chambres donnant sur le patio sont bruyantes car préparation du petit déjeuner le matin.

Review 124:People are very nice and friendly; they speak English. The location is perfect.

Review 125:We felt that the breakfast was a little too pricey for what was offered especially if you opted to get something warm.

Review 126:The staff spoke very good English, knew a lot about their town and could direct us to any place we wanted visit or eat. Pool kept very clean as was the hotel.

Review 127:The fact that there was no window in our room (201) and the bed was uncomfortably hard. My wife awoke with hip and elbow numb.

Review 128:The location was ideal and the facilities were clean and attractive. Our room had lofty ceilings and a great bathroom. The staff were always helpful. The pool was a relief during the heat of the afternoon. Castelmar Hotel made our stay in hot Campeche a real delight.

Review 129:Our room was small, stuffy, had poor ventilation. It smelled bad when entering and when closed up. A standup closet in the room was unusable due to odor. Bathroom was very small and claustrophobic feeling. Courtyard located in the center of the hotel was noisy when people were using (mostly at breakfast time), could hear all the conversations. Breakfast was not included. The hotel was pricey.

Review 130:The staff was friendly and the hotel grounds and our room were very clean. Great shower-head and water pressure, plenty of hot water in the shower. The outside pool was adequate. Centrally located, which made it easy to explore the city.

Review 131:The pool was very dirty. The window of my room kept on cracking during the night. No wifi in the room.

Review 132:staff was great! the deco of the hotel is beautiful. I checked out other colonial style hotels in town and this one is clearly the winner.
