Reviews for Hotel Gianni Franzi
Review 1:Nothing.
Review 2:Beautiful hotel in amazing location. Gorgeous view from the window. Top floor apartment is for people who don't mind stairs and minimal luggage which suited us perfect. Terrace is a must for sunset.
Review 3:The 200-300 flights of stairs to our room! I had to carry two 50 pounds of luggage, uphill and up stairs! Then to get to the room, another set of spiral steps. If you're not in physical shape, thankfully I work out, I don't recommend heavy luggage if coming here! Rooms kinda small, but again makes the European experience authentic!
Review 4:The view was absolutely stunningly! Could not beat that sea view room! I still think about it everyday, and having breakfast on the beautiful terrace overlooking the sea. Wine tasting on the terrace, delicious restaurant part of the hotel! Rooms were cozy, and felt like an authentic Vernazza experience!
Review 5:The shower in our room was very narrow and had a shower curtain that would get stuck on you....a little annoying. Putting some sort of screen would be better.
Review 6:The location was fantastic. The rooms are basic but comfortable. Some customers complain about the walk up the stairs but it is hard to avoid walking up stairs in Vernazza.
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:Staff was incredible. Dorra (spelling?) was fantastic on check in, did a great job. Room was very clean and updated. Close walk with luggage to room from train station. Would highly recommend.
Review 9:Reception left a bit to be desired, staff could have be more welcoming and more friendly
Review 10:Location, outside patio for view & drinks, breakfast and resurant for dinner
Review 11:The staff wasn't overly friendly. Also, the cleaners left our room door wide open and unlocked and when we went to tell the front desk they didn't really care.
Review 12:The patio for breakfast was amazing, as well as the other small patio, what a great place for a glass of wine or snacks, we had a picnic there, it was amazing. Location was great as well.
Review 13:Very very small. No AC. Needs renovation or major deep cleaning. More like a hostel than a hotel. No view.
Review 14:Great location (be prepared for MANY stairs)
Review 15:We payed the same amount per room as other guest that had a balcony! we find that unfair. there should be a better dividing between the prices according to the features of the rooms. Breakfast ok but a little tip: they could make their own coffee and not put a cheap coffee machine to do their job. when i travel to Italy i expect a great cappuccino anytime and anywhere! :)
Review 16:We absolutely adored the ambient of the little fishermen village, the breathtaking view of the sea and cliffs from Gianni´s deck and the rustic decoration of the room.
Review 17:The breakfast deck which has a stunning outlook and is ideal for sundowners and evening drinks is reserved for wine drinkers only (no Beer!) in the evenings. Are wine drinkers more sophisticated than beer drinkers??
Review 18:The location and outlook from the room was as requested. The many steps did not worry me as I had investigated the location thoroughly.
Review 19:Rooms dont have a fridge and safe.
Review 20:Fabulous breakfast on terrace overlooking the ocean. Located in centre of Vernazza. V good wifi in common areas. Nice terraces overlooking the sea.
Review 21:A little bit expensive to me... because my room is dark, no view, and the decoration/desk is kind of old, no fridge, comparing to the b&b my friends stayed...
Review 22:It's easy to find just walk straight from the train station to the plaza, then you can see the sign on the left and check in in the bar dedk. Although there are many stairs but they provide the service to carry your luggage to the room, 1 piece 3 euro. Good view at the breakfast buffet.
Review 23:They made a mistake on our booking and after 2 nights we had to move to another room. This room had no sea view and the AC did not work. Bed was uncomfortable. Not a good experience. FYI: 100 steps to room.
Review 24:View of Mediterranean is incredible from breakfast area, lounge areas and our room. Room was small but clean and comfortable. AC worked well. Staff pleasant.
Review 25:Do not recommend for individuals with mobility limitations as need to climb many flights of stairs to access suite; lacks elevators.
Review 26:Fantastic proximity and views of sea from common terrace and breakfast served on terrace overlooking sea. Interesting artwork.
Review 27:Beautiful location! Gorgeous common area terraces and friendly staff. Very quiet and actually private despite the crowd of tourists in the village itself.
Review 28:View is unbelievable! It is located on a cliff. Food is great and location could not be better. The room is worth the 100 plus steps up. The staff was very helpful to us
Review 29:Hotel blamed booking.com for hotel's failure to provide specified room in confirmed booking. ie. room with balcony and seaview. It provided neither. Staff were rude and unhelpful. Please provide booking.com's response to this situation, as our future business with your agency, and our recommendations to others, will depend on it.
Review 30:Location of hotel.
Review 31:The hotel is set in spectacular setting, on rugged mountainside. Staff is wonderful. Breakfast on the mountainside deck is exceptional. Evening jazz bar on that deck also wonderful. Get in shape for the walk up 100 steps.
Review 32:The room was average and there is only wifi in the public seating area
Review 33:The little seating area in the back of the hotel is the place to get away from the crowds and enjoy the beauty of Cinque Terra
Review 34:only downfall is there are a fair amount of stairs to climb each time you go to your room. Lack of Wifi in room (only available in common areas, which I knew in advance)
Review 35:The view from the included breakfast area was awesome. The breakfast itself was varied and delicious. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Review 36:It is very expensive for what it is, the mosquito when we opened the door of the room(they could have easily hoovered them, the quality of towel
Review 37:The location is great, the breakfast was quite good
Review 38:We were fit enough for the nearly 200 steps to our room, but this would not be for everyone.
Review 39:We loved the location, view from our room and the breakfast deck, and the sound of the sea at night!
Review 40:About 100 steps from the street level to the room and no lift. Room so small that it might be ok for a single bed. No WiFi in rooms.
Review 41:Terrace for breakfast.
Review 42:We liked the uniqueness of it but the climb to the bedroom (up about 3 steep flights of steps) was quite challenging with a rucksack on your back!!! However the view from the top was worth it!
Review 43:The access - driving in to Vernazza is not easy and probably near impossible peak season, suggest train is better. Then the long walk and heaps of stairs with bags so pack light! Vernazza is worth the effort though.
Review 44:Location is spectacular, you couldn't ask for better.
Review 45:The walls are so thin you can hear what they speak in the next room; in Italy, they use loud voice!
Review 46:We had a balcony, and there was a tea/coffee- machine in the room with coffee, tea, juice, milk etc. Enough warm water;)
Review 47:Only disappointment was that the cliff side bar was closed for upkeep/repairs during our stay. That was the primary reason for choosing this hotel.
Review 48:Very clean; contemporary decor; comfortable bed; quiet room. There were a number of twists and turns, not to mention steps, between the restaurant where you check in and building/hotel room, but that was part of the fun and the experience of being in Vernazzza.
Review 49:We had to stop and catch our breath on the way up to the room, the stairs are NOT for the faint at heart. Teeny tiny bathroom. No wifi in the rooms, just provide in private terrace.
Review 50:Staff was friendly, when I asked for a sea view they switched and gave me one. Bedding was comfy and warm. Awesome private terraces.
Review 51:We had wifi in our room because we were right next to the communal area. Any further from that and I think you would have to make a trip to the communal area/terrace to access the internet. Would very much recommend trveling to Cinque Terre on the shoulder of summer as winter is completely dead (not just quiet) and summer probably way too busy. It is very much a summer place. This hotel has an excellent location but make sure you pack lightly as you will have to cart your bags up potentially 125 windy stairs!
Review 52:Internet not in the room, shower temperature was cold, towels law quality, thin passage and many steps to reach the room
Review 53:Windows on the sea, nice bead and forniture, great position
Review 54:There are about 100 stairs from the street up to the room. It was necessary for the view, but was somewhat difficult to get some suitcases up and down.
Review 55:The view out of the window is awe-inspiring. The room was very comfortable and clean. The hotel also has an excellent restaurant downstairs that gives you 10% off.
Review 56:The staff were perfunctory and not particularly helpful nor friendly other than getting us into our room, though the cleaning staff were very nice. The restaurant was mediocre at best.
Review 57:The room had an excellent view, the bed and room were really comfortable.
Review 58:- Travel light, since the whole place is built on the mountain rocks, or leave your luggage at the train station;
Review 59:- Excellent Location; - We were offered a room with a view do the sea;
Review 60:the hotel location is in the small port, just in the heart of the town. view from the rooms is breathtaking ! the stairs are fair, the restaurant is nice and the food is very tastey. all was so beautiful around ! the room is warm and cozy, enough for us.
Review 61:There was no breakfast served. Just so you know, you need to climb some stairs to get to the room. It was no big deal for us but if you have trouble climbing stairs, you need to consider that. The bathroom was quite small. But it was OK for us.
Review 62:We stayed at Hotel Gianni Franzi with my husband. The location was quite good, at the center of Vernazza. Easily accesible to other Cinque Terre villages. You can hike or take rain or even take boat..
Review 63:Nothing really.
Review 64:We had stunning cliff, ocean and rooftop views from our room, making it well worthwhile the challenging 129 step climb to get there. This felt like real, authentic Italy.
Review 65:Beds were hard and the room was very small. The room was also very noise as we could hear people walking in the street below.
Review 66:The town was great and so is the Cinque Terra region.
Review 67:Unworthy price (60 euro/ night) due to1.Poor service: NOT 24hours front desk (everything goes to people working in a bar located under the mountain while the hotel is a few minutes climbing on mountain.) 2. Freezing room because of none heater working during the whole night (14th November) while they said it is working automatically. 3. Shower is not warm enough because it is continuously changing temperature (at least NOT recommend to use in November based on our experience) 4. Very bad wifi connection in room (we could only connect on the top floor) 5. No kattle, no cup for hot water as we are freezing in the cold room. We could only pay to have some tea in the bar instead. 6. Smell of bleach in the whole building as well as our room and the towels when we arrive the hotel at around 10:40. Not a good hotel experience in our whole trip in Italy compared to the other hotels we stayed in Monterosso al mare, Florence and Venice.
Review 68:Not really
Review 69:Lot's of stairs, but that is area. That is the nature of the village. Right in the heart of the village.
Review 70:Nice area to hang out, amazing view from balcony area.
Review 71:Nothing. People commented about the staff but my experience was fine. They are doing their job fine.
Review 72:Very central, closed to the train station Very easy to find (we had problems finding the accommodation we stayed in other 2 villages. This one is so easy, straight down from the train station) Excellent view from hotel back garden. Would sure come back to the same hotel next round :-)
Review 73:Due to visiting in October the room was very cold in the evenings/mornings, there was a radiator but it wasn't turned on. Lots of blankets were available for the bed but a small heater would have been appreciated to take the chill off.
Review 74:Great views, sun terrace, nice rooms, very clean, modern bathroom.
Review 75:The only thing we didn't like were the 100 steps leading up to our room, but that was the very thing that gave us the best view of the harbor.
Review 76:Nice people, lovely breakfast on the patio with a fabulous view. Rooms small but very neat and clean. For 3 euros you can elect to have luggage carried up to your room or taken to the train station on your way out.
Review 77:Staff was rude. When walking up the stairs withe the luggage staff got very impatient with this man in his 60 's. Rooms were exceptionally small and cleanliness was not a priority of this b&b. Would never recommend
Review 78:The location was good
Review 79:There really wasn't anything I didn't like.
Review 80:We enjoyed everything about our stay at Gianni Franzi and have already recommended it to friends and family. The room was just as it is shown on the website-although small, it met all of our needs. We really enjoyed the views from the hotel and the decks. This was the best part of our three week trip to Italy and I look forward to getting to Cinque Terre again to stay at Gianni Franzi.
Review 81:The staff was a bit gruff, the restaurant had reservation cards on the tables but picked and choose who actually got to dine. Lucky for us we got picked! the food was great the wine was even better
Review 82:our room looked out over the ocean with views of the mountainside and city below. we decided to stay one more day and was able to move to a lower room but it still had amazing views
Review 83:We had room 501 for one night, rather small and stuffy with no view, and extremely noisy due to people walking past late at night. However this was made up for by the excellent terrace at the top of building 47. Would recommend the hotel on the terrace alone.
Review 84:Shower is very small and my husband and I are not big people.
Review 85:The location could not have been more perfect. Our room had a view of the Ligurian Sea and the surrounding countryside. Rooms are simple but charming. We had a room with a private bath.
Review 86:Be prepared to drag your luggage up tons of staircase - we were at the top floor even after the climb and it was tiring moving the luggage up there. The view was worth it though!
Review 87:The location is excellent with gorgeous view to the sea.
Review 88:The hotel itself was up an inordinate amount of stairs on the cliff side with other elements of it fragmented around the village, bring good walking shoes!
Review 89:Great location right on the seafront with the breakfast area over looking the bay. Prime beach/ harbour front location resturaunt with great staff too.
Review 90:There isn't much to fault, but if I had to list something, the bed was very hard and the Wi-Fi was only in the public spaces.
Review 91:The location of Hotel Gianni Franzi was perfect. When the town was swarming with tourists during the middle of the day, the private patio area was a perfect place to relax and escape. The views were amazing and the breakfast superb. We'll be back!
Review 92:be prepared to walk up lots of stairs to your room.it was a massive walk out while carrying the suitcase and stuff!
Review 93:nice sea view in my room as well as in the breakfast bar, absolutely stunning
Review 94:Stairs but if you want the view, get over them. Staff happy to assist with luggage haulage up stairs so not an issue for me
Review 95:Perfect location in the best village of Cinque Terra. Rooms clean, staff magnificent, the extras are such a bonus, breakfast overlooking bay watching dolphins jumping out of sea, boats going out,
Review 96:The walk up the stairs to the room was tiring, but we expected it, and it was worth this walk. Room was small, and not one with a view. The swamp cooler did not seem to be able to keep room cool in early July.
Review 97:Very unique hotel in a fantastic location. The patio was a great place to relax. Breakfast was wonderful, with the orange juice being the best I have ever had. Location, location, location.
Review 98:Room extra small, room for bed and nothing else in room. No air conditioning, no breeze, since door only opens to a small inside hall. 130 steps to our room, but no help with luggage. No toilet paper. Uncomfortable and squeaky bed. Complained in the morning to no avail, so we checked out, and were forced to pay for second night anyway.
Review 99:Good view of ocean
Review 100:Small rooms with no storage.Poor customer service, they are not that happy to see you, or serve you
Review 101:The view from the patio at breakfast. The lovely lady in the breakfast room Quiet location
Review 102:So you can't talk about this inn without mentioning stairs. But throughout out 2 week stay in Italy, I booked old inns and we climbed stairs. Lots. So it was not a problem. If you are carrying a huge bag, you'll need to carry your huge bag to your room. But I wouldn't say this was a "didn't like." I looked at it as I could eat more pizza and drink more wine because I was going to climb some stairs every day. However if you have some health problems it might lesson your joy to know these stairs await you morning and night. Enjoy!!!
Review 103:Everything. We liked the inn, the people, the view of the hillside from our room, the town, the nice lady behind the bar when we checked in. We loved Vernazza for it's charm, and because it was small and not so commercial early in the mornings and later in the evenings. If I could go back to Italy I would make Vernazza my home base and travel by train to see other places because I loved it just that much. The inn was a straight walk down the main street and right on the harbor. The churchs bells ring and I personally liked my open windows and fan to cool me at night...our room had no air conditioner...but if it were very hot...it might have not been enough. We were there in June. Onebuilding has the porch with the wifi service. If you need continual access you might request this building.
Review 104:Quite the hike up to the room. If you can't handle lots of steps, stay somewhere else, but the location and views make the climb worthwhile!
Review 105:Killer view!
Review 106:Seperate bathroom
Review 107:Cozy sweet place Designed with love, what u can see Excellent views
Review 108:We had the balcony overlooking the water and it was amazing! The room was small, but very clean and the view made up for the tons of stairs.
Review 109:Long way up the stairs
Review 110:Amazing views!
Review 111:With no phone it was hard to contact the owner to get in.
Review 112:Great Location with helpful staff
Review 113:Be prepared to climb a lot is stairs.
Review 114:Beautiful views
Review 115:Amazing view
Review 116:Views from the terraces were outstanding. So was breakfast on the terraces
Review 117:To many stays to get to accommodation, seven flights to get to building, then another 3 to get to room.
Review 118:Not far from train station, ocean is beautiful
Review 119:Character filled accomodation. Lovely decks to enjoy views
Review 120:Nothing, but there were plenty of stairs, but we expected this.
Review 121:The private balcony you could access with fantastic views of the coast.
Review 122:That they provided a discount to guests to eat at their restaurant. They offer a porter service for a 100 steps.
Review 123:There's a great view from the breakfast area veranda which overlooks the Sea
Review 124:Wifi was only in the common areas
Review 125:Could not fault the location and the view
Review 126:1. Check-in only at specific time:-( 2. No safety box 3. Shower stall too small
Review 127:1. Great view! 2. Quiet 3. Restaurant food was delicious!
Review 128:No wifi in the room, and you have to call the staff to collect the room key as the reception only opens for limited time.
Review 129:Stairs
Review 130:Lovely Views and cute rooms although very small.
Review 131:No internet in room.
Review 132:Great location. Very hard to get to, first by car, then to park, then from office to rooom. The common space views were great.
Review 133:nice!
Review 134:The steps were killer especially with a suitcase.
Review 135:The view was amazing. The room was small but adequate.
