Reviews for Mount View Hakone
Review 1:Location was good but still difficult to do things beyond hotel location. Not many activities or shops close by other than museums
Review 2:The hotel was great. The room was better than I imagined, was small but still felt spacious for one person. Staff were friendly, food was good, onsen was great.
Review 3:The private onsen that I was hoping to book, was already booked up when we arrived (and was not possible to pre-book). The private onsen could have been for at least 1 hour (not 45 minutes).
Review 4:Everything! We had a very memorable stay here. Probably because it was a splurge for us, but extremely worth it. The dinner and breakfast were amazing! Although the onsen that I wanted was booked, the 'barrel' one we went in was still good. Our room was perfect, and we really loved dressing up in the yukata. The outside public bath was also very good. I would love to return to this hotel one day.
Review 5:The staff are very friendly and polite, and the receptionist spoke English very well. It's a nice getaway from the busy city of Tokyo , giving us time to fully relax and enjoy the serenity of the place. Their facilities are of high standard and the room is kept very clean and comfortable. The 24 hours public bath is also a great option for anyone who wants to do onsen during their stay.
Review 6:The dining area was a little austere.
Review 7:Outdoor bath was nice. I definitely recommend a bath before bed. You'll sleep wonderfully. Food was pretty elaborate.
Review 8:The family onsen coild use some remodeling, and the breakfast wasn't that good. We've stayed a night at another ryokan in gora, payed less for more luxurious experience.
Review 9:Liked the private dining room, the private open air bath. Dinner was great. The staff was very nice. Room was spacious and location vety convenient. Room massage was fun.
Review 10:The location a little bit far from major attractions.
Review 11:The place is clean, wonderful onsen, nice traditional japanese room, half board provided is quality.
Review 12:Open air private onsen looking out to big and tall bamboo trees, nice staff who taught us how to wear yukata, elaborate meals, reasonably priced stay, easily reached by bus from Shinjuku station. Very relaxed and small town.
Review 13:- No shower/bathroom in the room which we knew when booking. - Some electrical appliances are placed on the floor so not baby proof. - No shops nearby. Hakone-Yumoto Station however has many shops, eateries etc.
Review 14:- very friendly and helpful staff. Front desk staff can speak both Mandarin and English fluently. Very responsive to email requests as well. - Right next to the Sengokuhara-bunka-center-mae stop (Take the "T" line bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station). It takes about a good 30-45 mins from the Station to the hotel, depending on traffic. - Rooms are very clean and spacious. - Dinner and breakfast are very yummy. - 3 mins walk from Little Prince Museum. Other tourist spots are accessible by "T" line buses. - There's an activity room where guests can play table tennis or just mingle with other guests. - Happy to store your luggage after check out if you still want to explore the area. If you want to check out late, I think they charge minimum Y2,000.
Review 15:It's a bit too far away from other tourist spot, but the bus did help connecting to Shinjuku.
Review 16:The hotspring, the meal, as well as the room. They're all of high standard. Staff members are friendly and they have their Mandarin and English fluently spoken. The hotspring open 24 hours, so you may go for it at any time, or even at midnight!!
Review 17:Everything was wonderful. The onsen facilities were nice and spacious and it was very easy to make a private onsen reservation upon arrival. The dinner and breakfast were both nicely traditional and delicious! (and easily accessible to my travel companion who is unfamiliar with Japanese food.) the staff of course live up to Japanese hospitality standards but also cheerful and done with good humor.
Review 18:It is far from Odawara Shinkansen Station and Hakone Town but close to Lake Ashi Togendai station.
Review 19:The staffs are courteous and helpful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The dinner and breakfast which were impressive with variety of food beautifully served. However, I would said it doesn't taste as impressive as its display. Of coz, we love the onsen.
Review 20:However, wish the cleaning work more carefully especially about bedclothes.
Review 21:The hotel is near by lots of museums and galleries. Two bus stops which could go to the Odawara station just stand in front of the hotel. And the hot spring in hotel is amazing. There also some restaurants and convenience stores around the hotel.
Review 22:Out of the way, but the bus is free with the Hakone free pass. Also, they charge for extra towels, so if you want to use the onsen more than once (like when you arrive and again after dinner or in the morning before leaving), you either need to pay the ¥200 each for new ones, or reuse the old ones. Not a big deal, but I wasn't expecting an upscale place to nickel and dime me like that, and it put a damper on things for me
Review 23:Lovely onsen, clean rooms, and upscale facilities make this place a nice vacation place to stay at. The water was nice and hot, bathroom and bedroom clean, and the best was soft. Loved the room and facilities.
Review 24:1. The dinner was fantastic. Though a bit pricy, but the best meal we had in Japan. Value for money. 2. The staff are very helpful, attentive to details.
Review 25:Bit expensive for what was provided, especially since the location wasn't that great. A number of buses needed to get to the sites to see in Hakone
Review 26:The staff and facilities were very nice
Review 27:Can't find any complain.
Review 28:Friendly staffs. Even not everyone can speak English, any staff there will willingly help you and provide all the information you need. Awesome dinner and breakfast. Of course hot spring is really good. Lastly, sleeping on the floor is actually very comfortable with the blanket they provide!
Review 29:PUBLIC BATH SHARED BATHROOM PAID PRIVATE ONSEN INFLEXIBLE CHECK IN AND OUT TIMING
Review 30:FOOD SERVICE TRADITIONAL JAPANESE EXPERIENCE & ROOM AMBIENCE
Review 31:The bus to the hotel (T line) was a little tricky with big bags, although the hotel was very close to the bus stop so it was doable. Next time though I'd probably try to leave my bags in Tokyo and just bring a smaller bag to Hakone. The pillows were not great (very hard), although I didn't check with reception and there may have been better ones available.
Review 32:Great experience of staying in traditional Japanese ryokan-style accommodation, with lovely staff and amazing meals!! Some parts of the meals could be a bit challenging to people not used to traditional Japanese food, but there is a LOT of food so there is bound to be something you'll like! We stayed 2 nights, to give ourselves a full day to complete the 'classic round course' of Hakone, which was very doable from Mount View - we just caught a bus (S line) to Gora and started from the cable car portion of the course. As for the bath - we decided not to go for the public bath, and instead booked the private bath (3,000 yen for 45 mins; 6,000 yen for 1 hr 45 mins if 2 slots booked together). The private bath was really nice, with its own little change-room and wash basin, a shower area with shower-head, shampoo/conditioner etc, and a lovely semi-outdoor bath looking out at a bamboo garden!
Review 33:Nothing
Review 34:An excellent hotel, close to public transport, offering magnificent food, and use of public or private bath ( Onsen ). A great experience.
Review 35:Some staff incl reception spoke v limited english, showering outside at the private onsen area was a bit too cold
Review 36:Allows solo booking, great value for money, nice private onsen for booking, very nice meals and service
Review 37:We love to stay at this hotel very much. Nice scenery and friendly staffs who can speak Japanese, Chinese and English well. Our room had been upgraded at no cost due to their internal arrangement. The room is spacious and clean. It's quite easily to reach at their hotel. With a bus stop nearby. And there is Lawson convenient store and some restaurants nearby. However, we don't need to dine elsewhere because we ordered for the dinner and breakfast meal. They are awesome! Delicious and good services offered by every staffs there. They served the meal to us like we are the king and queen. Good traditional Japanese meal for both. Highly recommended to take the meal package as you won't be regretted. There are 24 hours open bath in the hotel which you can freely use it. The hot spring is great to enjoy. And we also tried for the paid private room for hot spring in the bamboo tubs. Great experience for 45 mins. We had been enjoyable and greatly happy staying there. Definitely will stay there again next time and recommend to others as well. Good job guys!
Review 38:Noise from corridors and other guests quite loud but solved with some ear plugs. The lounge area looked out to the autumn leaves past some very sad looking pot plants...sprucing up this area would make the view much nicer but overall a pleasant place to be.
Review 39:Public and private baths were great. Dining for solo traveller very comfortable in partitioned area which was private and relaxed even if dining alone. Wonderful food (TRADITIONAL Japanese, not to everyone's taste but I loved it!)
Review 40:Location is prefect, just next to the bus stop. The staffs were very nice and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and tidy. The room we stayed was with private toilet but no shower. It's fine with us since we need to take a shower before entering the hot spring bath anyway. The outdoor hot spring bath was relaxing. Dinner was delicious, with hot pot and 7 courses. Really enjoyed the stay in Mount View Hakone.
Review 41:NA
Review 42:The dinner and breakfast were the highlights - never had so many single dishes served in one meal before. The outdoor onsen was beautiful. I could get used to wearing the yukatas at every hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly, from showing us to our room and all the features, to the hard working wait staff in the restaurant. It didn't hurt that we got a free upgrade, too!
Review 43:Great food n location. The staff is also fantastic in helping to assist with any of my enquirers. Even all the Cleaners go all the way out to be friendly
Review 44:If you are not used to a Japanese room, this hotel is not for you: sleeping on a futon is an acquired taste, as is the Japanese breakfast.
Review 45:We liked the onsen, and can now pride ourselves to have stayed in a "real" Japanese hotel.
Review 46:Cash only.
Review 47:It's easy to find the hotel by bus. The outdoor onsen is nice. I would recommend other travelers to book the half board package - you won't be disappointed by the dinner and breakfast! It's absolutely awesome!
Review 48:None!
Review 49:Service was excellent, and a few staff were Taiwanese and could speak English and Mandarin. Bus stops were near the hotel too. Food was excellent, different for the 2 days we stayed there.
Review 50:The coffee cups during breakfast are way too small and had to be refilled several times needlessly.
Review 51:The kaiseke meal was excellent. The breakfast is of the traditional Japanese variety with no western exceptions, so ensure everyone likes soup and fish in the morning! The bath rental was not entirely worth the extra 30,000 yen. There is an outside element to the public bath which is open 24/7. Beautiful facilities and superb service. The open air museum is a must as well.
Review 52:Very clean, comfortable, spacious. Provide you with everything you can ask for in terms of toiletries and what you need to use their onsens. We spent time in both the public and private onsen and recommend both. Mid net and breads mast were fantastic and make the price paid more than worth it on top of everything else..
Review 53:It took about 45-50 minutes to get to the hotel from train station by bus on a winding mountain road. So if you tend to get car-sickness, takes a pill beforehand.
Review 54:We booked the room with half-meal services(breakfast and dinner), which are so delicious and fresh. And the ladies who served the meal are very nice. The front desk ladies can speak multi-languages, English, Mandarin, and are always willing to provide information. The view to mountain from the room is great.
Review 55:The pillow was a bit hard for me, but I was lazy and didn't ask to change it. Nothing else comes to mind.
Review 56:They make you feel like the king. With a room so nice and comfortable and a view, and the whole staff was the nicest. This is by far the most relaxing and best hotel I've been to in Japan. The minute I walked in to the room I called up the reception and asked to prolong my stay for another night because I knew this was going to be a treat.
Review 57:The Staff was wonderful and helpful. The dinner and breakfast is fantastic, if you love Japanese food. The onsen was the perfect temperature and very relaxing.
Review 58:The onswn is open 24 hours and the two pools are super clean. Also, we are vegetarian and our menus were completely adapted to our needs with no extra fee and the number of courses and their quality were amazing. I will of course recommend this hotel. The staff were very friendly and polite answering to needs.
Review 59:Wonderful staff, incredible Japanese dinner and breakfast, English spoken. All guests get to reserve private bath for one hour - at no cost. Walking distance from Lalique Museum.
Review 60:Far from mini groceries. If you're not planning to have dinner at the hotel (which should be booked in advance, btw), get some groceries first before checking in. Only accepts cash, no credit card payment option available, so be sure to bring extra yen to pay.
Review 61:Location is a bit far out from the Hakone attractions but a good jump off point if you're spending your second day in Gotemba (which is also worth the visit, btw) My "concierge / bell lady / breakfast server" is amazing, hands down. Very nice, courteous and all around! She escorted me to my room, and served my breakfast the following morning. I would have just called her my "obasan"(grandmother) as I was not even able to ask for her name. Japanese breakfast is pretty good, if you like eating rice as breakfast (I don't have a problem with that as I am Filipino and we do eat rice on every single meal). I enjoyed it very much! I would have wanted a nicer full 180 degree view of the surrounding mountains without the massive concrete balcony outside my window that's kind of blocking, what could have been a picturesque photo op. Nevertheless, the area is very quiet, you can open your window and breathe that fresh mountain air! Lastly, spend about 20 minutes on the property's free public bath if you're not the shy type, or if you can shell out an extra 2000 to 3000 yen, you can book a private one for 45 minutes. Honestly, I didn't even last for more than 25, and the public bath is usually empty.
Review 62:We find that the pillows provided in our room are too hard ; uncomfortable for us to sleep well at night.
Review 63:Upon the arrival, we were warmly welcomed and given a free upgrade of the room. The room is cozy and have a fantastic mountainous view. They have outdoor and indoor public onsens and the strength of the shower water is strong. The Taiwanese staff always has a smile and was very helpful when we asked for directions to famous spots. Although the location is too far from Odawara station which is about 50 min ride, there's a bus stop in front of it.
Review 64:a bit far away from the train station, needed to take 40-60min bus from the station to the hotel.
Review 65:The room is very clean and nice. The hot spring is also great!
Review 66:The fact that there's no ensuite bathroom. But of course, that's how ryokans usually are. We didn't really like the dinner, some of them tasted weird (but probably we are just not used to the taste). The place is quite inconvenient for us, especially as it's only served with 1 bus line (Togendai). However we can walk to a bus stop before/after the hotel, and there are several bus lines stopping. We somehow can not connect to the wifi.
Review 67:The friendly staff, they always greet us when they see us. They explained us the way to wear the yukata. They wait for us in front of elevator to guide us to the dining room, and once we returned from dinner, the futon had already been laid out. We booked a private bath session in the biggest bath (fit 4 people) and it was a very nice experience. The breakfast was very nice, I liked all the dishes served. The room has a nice tatami smell, I love the smell.
Review 68:The plan that I got there included dinner and breakfast as long as I checked in by a certain time. Well I missed the train to make the reservation called to inform the hotel and they were able to save dinner for me. I also had to check out the next day before breakfast was served but they made breakfast for me earlier than usual. It is great service like this that will keep me coming back to this wonderful hotel anytime I am in the area
Review 69:According to the price, service was great. Staf will take care of you since when you arrived at the hotel. You can book your time for private onsen (Additional charge 2000 yen, for 45 minutes of joy). Room was nice, comfortable, and clean. Dinner and breakfast they provided also great, so variety and delicious.
Review 70:beds on the floor were not comfortable but part of the experience. expensive for the facilities available. shared bathroom downstairs not good enough for the price.
Review 71:traditional style hotel for a unique and proper japanese experience.helpful and friendly staff. lovely japanese traditional meal.
Review 72:No internet in evenings Steff could not recommend on restaurants other than a list prepared before - we wanted some places of cheap local food where locals eat lunch and they could only recommend on fancy restaurants.
Review 73:Wonderful experience of Japanese tradition Staff is very welcoming Amazing food an dining services in traditional Japanese style
Review 74:Nothing.
Review 75:I specially loved the food, so much variety and everything was so delicious! The open bath was great as well, my skin felt great afterwards, and the ryokan as a whole was very nice and clean, with excellent staff. It was a unique experience that one must have when in Japan.
Review 76:Everything was perfect. Very gracious service by the ladies at breakfast and dinner. Best value for money, including half board, compared to other hotels in the area. The location is very good, right next to the bus stop from/to Shinjuku and to nearby attractions. A few dining options closeby if you don't choose to eat at the hotel. Very nice, clean onsen. Definitely recommended for at least a couple of nights.
Review 77:The area is very quiet, late arrival and not many places to eat. Would recommend to be aware of that fact.
Review 78:Room upgraded - nice gesture, and very pleasant staff at check in. Right on the bus stop from a direct bus from Shinjuku. Onsen open non-stop. Don't forget to take the towel from your room.
Review 79:No well instreustion of how to use the aircon or heater.
Review 80:The service as they know how to speak Mandarin well. Will solve any issue in very short time after we called the front desk.
Review 81:The view of the room was disapointing. We were expecting to have a view over the mountain. The onsen water was too hot.
Review 82:Cleanliness, decoration, public baths
Review 83:The hotel was very nice and the service was exceptional. The staff worked very hard to make everything comfortable and enjoyable. The Japanese dinner and breakfast were particularly good and well beyond expectations!!
Review 84:Since booking.com doesn't take payment..when we arrived at the hotel we were told that they do not take credit card n we had to pay cash..had to find a atm to draw money. Private onsen can only be booked after checking in and when we check in at 1pm almost all time slots were taken. So we had to take 6pm slot before meal even though it's not advisable.
Review 85:Private onsen is well maintain n clean..food is super tasty..
Review 86:The traditional breakfast and dinner were nice, however very adventurous and may not suit everyone's taste. Hotel décor needs an update.
Review 87:The staff were very attentive, the room was spacious, the private onsen was great and very relaxing. Bus stop right out the front.
Review 88:My only thing is that getting from the JR train station is a timely and costly experience
Review 89:Everything from the staff to the facilities were amazing. I had the opportunity to book one of the private baths. Absolutely stunning. I recommend getting a late session if possible.
Review 90:located in the half-way between odawara station and the lake. There is only one small supermarket nearby, so in the evening there is no place to see or visit. The price is a little bit high compared with the other hotels in Tokyo o Osaka.
Review 91:very kind staff, clean room, good dinner and breakfast
Review 92:It is quite middle of nowhere, but the bus line T goes directly from Odawara, so it is ok. There is nothing to see around the hotel, so it is more to stay in a hotel and enjoy the onsen. The dinner was not as good as I expected and the breakfast was just ok. For the price and Hakone, the standard is actually ok.
Review 93:The onsen is quite nice.
Review 94:It's quite far from the main tourist stuff, not walking distance unless you're up for a hike. Easy to reach from the Shinkansen station and for Lake Ashi however and fine if like me you just want to chill out for a night or two.
Review 95:Fabulous onsen. I paid for a private one and it was wonderful. Very comfortable room and accommodating staff. They prepared a lovely vegetarian dinner and breakfast for me.
Review 96:Traditional pillow is very hard, you have to take the bus to go everywhere.
Review 97:Very nice ryokan and onsen. Room very big, clean and comfortable. Quite everything. Recommended but expensive
Review 98:My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in their deluxe tatami room with our two adult kids and really enjoyed the whole experience. The owners are extremely kind and helpful and speak enough English to help figure out where to go and what to do. Great place to stay.
Review 99:The staff were amazing and seemed to speak several languages between them - plus I received an email not long after booking with details about extra services (massages, private baths, etc.) and how to get there which was immensely helpful. The room was wonderful and my view, though interrupted by a concrete terrace and another building, was still beautiful. I also had a private bath which was perfect after a stressful week running around Tokyo. My main recommendation for this place though is for the food. I bought both dinner and breakfast and despite not knowing half of what I ate and not liking some of it, the food was amazing. There was also so much, it was like eating at a banquet. And the lovely ladies serving it helped me out when I didn't know how to eat something, despite the language barrier! And if you get there early, like I did, and want lunch, I very much recommend walking left up the street to a little place that's the last of a row of eateries across from Le Petite Prince (hard to miss). I don't know the name but it had plastic food models out the front, the waiter spoke English and for 1400 yen I got an entree, miso soup, salad, tea and a massive bowl of oyakodon. Overall, one of my best eating experiences anywhere, let alone in Japan.
Review 100:Check in time 2pm and Check on time 10am just not reasonable . Wifi connection coverage need to improve, include dinner but not drink(need to pay extra), food tasty is acceptable only
Review 101:It takes a while to get up there from odawara but it's worth it when you get into their hot spring bath!
Review 102:Clean Simple and Hospitable! The traditional Japanese style tatami room was a refreshing change!
Review 103:no wi-fi in the room
Review 104:We reserved private hot spring for the whole family, total worth the money! Highly recommend. Food is great, too! We had dinner and breakfast, very satisfied!
Review 105:This was a wonderfully authentic experience for my first visit to Japan. The staff were fantastic hosts and I felt very happy staying there even though I was travelling on my own. The onsen was very relaxing and the meals were delicious.
Review 106:the wifi in my room is not that stable sometimes. you might need to connect the wifi in the lobby before you get to your room. But overall, it is fine.
Review 107:you must try the meal (esp dinner set). they were gorgeous and beautiful the outdoor onsen is nice as well love the staff. She can speak Putonghua very well. Excellent customer service
Review 108:can be quite an expensive package will be good if there is a gym
Review 109:Trying the yukata ! The private onsen The delicious multi course dinner and breakfast ! The upgrade to Fu Yu suite room Right in front of bus stop to Togendai Good communication (email) between hotel and customer
Review 110:Wasn't clear that the Booking.com price did not include dinner and breakfast, given the rest of the reviews, which I only found out upon arrival.
Review 111:Clean, facilities are good (though note all showers are public onsen unless you pay for a private session ~2000JPY). Bed was comfy too.
Review 112:The staff was kind and patient with my nonexistent Japanese skills. The front desk staff spoke English and the rest of the staff were very helpful as well. The food was truly a banquet of beautiful delights for both breakfast and dinner. The location was convenient for arrival from the Hakone highway bus.
Review 113:Pillow was too hard to sleep on. Not sure its also a Japanese convention. Wifi was incontinuous, but handy for business purpose.
Review 114:Reception was really polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. They have service in Chinese and English. The room was clean and fully equipped with necessary items. And the onsen was fantastic. Breakfast was impressive, as well as the servers. Quiet neighbourhood.
Review 115:The weather could have been better. Quite away using public transport, being about an hour using the local bus route. Buy a Hakone pass from Odawara, worth the monies. No complaints. You will not have many things to tempt you out at night. Not good for party lovers.
Review 116:The food, half board was just worth the extra. The public baths. The surroundings. Just so relaxing.
Review 117:I cannot speak Japanese so i asked the Chinese speaking staff to help calling a restaurant in Tokyo to make a table reservation. I don't mind paying a reasonable service charge but she refused right away and said that the hotel does not provide such service.
Review 118:Spacious and clean room, comfortable futon, nice open air onsen and delicious meals.
Review 119:Everything! I love the traditional Japanese room, the snacks & green tea served in the room, the private onsen anddddd my ultimate personal favourite, their Japanese-style breakfast. Overwhelming breakfast spread & very tasty! Price was also very reasonable, did not burn a hole im our pocket considering what we got was quite luxurious. Love the place & would definitely return & recommend to other travelers!
Review 122:Alittle bit far from JR station, need to take bus for arriving the hotel there are staffs available for speaking Chinese, it's very good for people not good at japanese. onsen are good and comfortable food also good wifi is very stable at room, but fair connection at dining room overall the service are very good
Review 123:There is no attach bathroom
Review 124:I can reach in front of the hotel all the way from shinjuku station by bus. There is private onsen. The dinner and breakfast serve is superb.
Review 125:Very traditional Japanese ambience and decor. The Japanese-styled room is spacious and comes with a pretty bathtub in the balcony, two low beds, tatami flooring and a 3 seater sofa. The private osen is a sensual and relaxing experience... very tranquil and soothing setting with a dimly lit bamboo garden outside. We also enjoyed the Keiseki dinner experience dressed in the yukata.
Review 126:The breakfast was very bad and not various ...
Review 127:The staff must speak english better because its very difficult to communicate and to get tourism information .....
