Reviews for Kingsgate Hotel Hamilton

Review 1:no plug beside bed for husbands sleep machine. dated and not clean. Discusting sheets that housekeeping did not change after last guests

Review 2:Great space in the hotel lots of room

Review 3:Corridor smelled like cigarette smoke, staff were doing there best to find the source though.

Review 4:Always enjoy the buffet breakfast, and room service dinner was also great :)

Review 5:Achieved my goal. After attending a workshop, needed somewhere close to Te Kowhai, easy to get to. Comfortable and quiet. Reasonably priced. Enjoyed a good night's sleep and a substantial breakfast before attending day two of the workshop.

Review 6:The spas had awful fumes that made me cough a lot.

Review 7:The lap pool and service. I requested plates and cuttlery that was delivered immediately. Recommend they were in the complex already for further convenience.

Review 8:I was sorely disappointed to find the cups and teaspoons were dirty when I entered my room, as well as a dirty towel left folded on the rail in the bathroom. It's evident that the room wasn't thoroughly vacuumed for a while, as there were things under both beds - small bits of rubbish, etc. The pillows had very creased, rumpty pillowcases and looked like they'd been sat on before being put under the cover. I didn't use these. One of the glasses wrapped in a plastic bag had toothpaste residue on it and was presented as a clean glass. I will no longer use the spoons, cups or glasses. My dirty towels, which I left outside my room, folded on the carpet, got given back to me, unwashed, in a plastic bag, together with a plastic bag of condiments to replenish the tea/coffee/milk etc. I felt that was very careless as the towels were wet and clearly used so why on earth were they given back to me in a plastic bag with the condiment bag beneath the towels? i brought this to the attention of the reception staff, who sorted it out immediately. Upon leaving, I was dismayed to walk past two large, dead cockroaches along the hallway. I think the cleaners in the wing I was in, urgently need a performance review. I have not found The Kingsgate in such a poorly presented state before and this will now impact on whether we continue to stay here in the future.

Review 9:Reception staff excellent (Jaime) Nothing is too much trouble for her and she's a very nice, helpful and friendly lady, who deserves recognition for all her hard work and superb service. I also appreciated being given a quiet room, away from the families staying and also the one-nighters who are often less aware of the noise they make as they come and go.

Review 10:I didn't like how the rooms smelt musty & damp. I think the air con needs to be cleaned. The pool was a lot smaller than expected & could do with a good scrubbing. One spa was almost empty & the one we used smelt like it had old water in it.

Review 11:I really enjoyed the indoor pool & spa as we booked here for that reason because the weather was too wet for us to camp as planned, so we kept busy in the indoor pools. Staff were great! Lobe how they let our group enjoy drinks in their lobby/bar area after hours.

Review 12:On the first night we stayed the single beds were very hard and uncomfortable but on our return stay we upgraded to a super king bed at it was fantastic. The rooms seem to be very tired looking - I assume there will be some updating done in due course?

Review 13:The staff were very friendly and were very accommodating. We had meals in both visits and the food was fantastic. There was plenty to eat and no-one complained.

Review 14:The décor in room 108 is pretty "tired". There are pretty bad water marks on the wall paper by the air conditioning unit.

Review 15:Accommodation was nice and central for what we wanted to do around the Waikato. The staff at the Kingsgate were absolutely fantastic.

Review 16:We drove 8 hours from Wellington to the hotel, arrived at about 9:30 pm. Very tired, we were looking forward to a good rest. The mattresses were comfortable, but the beddings and towels were old. There were probably some bugs in bed because I felt itchy the whole night, and in the morning, I found some bites on my legs and arms. The fan and fridge were noisy, and make the kids hard to settle.

Review 17:There was only 1 power point in our room- which made it difficult to charge our phones, run hair straightners etc the whole night + the two different keys for the doors was difficult but overall not a major

Review 18:Johan- Who was the night porter is amazing. His customer service was faultless. I would stay again purely for the way he treated us. Absolutely amazing customer service. We also liked the indoor

Review 19:The first unit we stayed in was starting to show its age and is in need of a general spruce up. The grout of the tiles in the shower had mould on it and the paint is starting to peel on the bathroom ceiling. The bathroom of the second unit we stayed in was cleaner but the extractor fan sounded like a tractor and is well overdue for some maintenance. When I advised the lady at the front desk she said she would let someone know as it probably just needed some crc. I told her it sounded like the bearings need replacing.

Review 20:Terrible service checking in the lady was hungover or somethig when i went to my room it hadnt been serviced and the cleaners were still in there and asked me to come back

Review 21:I didn't like the breakfast as it the some think from last 8 years.. Hope their can look in to it

Review 22:Swimming pool was very cold as nowI. Nz it's still cold should be heart

Review 23:They allowed us an early check in at no extra charge unlike other places that charge by the hour or make you pay for the night before. The facilities like the sauna, spa, gym and restaurant were an added bonus. Very private and relaxing in our wing, thoroughly impressed with the extra security - having a key to get into the wing as well as a room key. Perfect location and would definitely recommend and stay again!

Review 24:Staff were not friendly, bath was full of hair, floor creaked and bed was uncomfortable. Noisy aircon from the room next door & neighbours. Breakfast was not good at all.

Review 25:Normally I book in here when I am in Hamilton and it is normally great but this time round I found my stay a waste of money.

Review 26:Just a minor issue with a 'too soft' mattress but all in all a good stay.

Review 27:We enjoyed our stay, very central location and had all we needed. Will recommend to all our friends.

Review 28:We'll our room wasn't the cleanest there was hair on the bathroom ceiling and the shower had some mould other than that the stay was ok for the price

Review 29:The main desk was helpful and our room was ready to go

Review 30:There were no biscuits in the kitchenette to have with our cup of tea and there were no bath robes, we usally stay at the Rydges in Rotorua but we thought we would give Kingsgate a try. Rydges is better value for money. Also, the walls are thin, we could hear the people next door.....

Review 31:The beds were comfy and the staff were really nice. Your soap smells good too.

Review 32:No lift or assistance to get heavy luggage up to the second floor resulted in me putting my back out and cancelling meetings. The food was disgusting - pulled pork sandwich with avocado was just a soggy inedible mess. The blank stare when I tried to complain and notify them that I had an accident in their workplace.

Review 33:It has a fitness centre.

Review 34:I requested bath with shower overhead and this was no problem. Also arrived very early and Receptionist gave us use of the room straight away, which was much appreciated.

Review 35:Shower looked like it had not been cleaned properly for some time. The grout in the bathroom could do with a better clean because it is all brown and discoloured.

Review 36:Location. Less than 5 minute walk to our Special Occasion (Te Rapa Race Course) Friendly staff

Review 37:Nothing?

Review 38:I liked the staff were on call for our needs 24/7 the location for us was perfect. It felt like home away from home. The information provided in our room covered everything from medical adsistance to meals??

Review 39:No facilities to get a drink during the day other than our room. Being charged twice for our evening meal and having to follow up because no one could deal with it at the time of my call.

Review 40:comfortable accommodation

Review 41:Pretty average dinner menu Very sloppy scrambled eggs (breakfast)

Review 42:Close to ferry wharf & shops Free car parking Happy hour in the bar Friendly/ helpful staff

Review 43:easy booking on line reception courtesy swimming pool temperature comfortable bed quiet room attention by breakfast dining room staff-eating breakfast watching All Blacks beat France! late check out

Review 44:There was no microwave in the room and I needed to heat bottles. We did so in the kettle but microwave would have been nice. The pool was to cold for all of us.A little playground on the grass area would have been perfect for my children.

Review 45:Having 3 spas was great and the pool is a grand idea for summer.

Review 46:Only negative feedback would be the dated and tired decor. New modern duvet covers and fresh paint on walls would make massive difference. Also a microwave would have been very handy.

Review 47:Loved the location, friendly staff and pool facilities! Rooms were clean and staff made accommodations for our large family.

Review 48:Cockroach in the room, long wait for coffee (there was a bridge tournament on which seemed to be more important than anyone else).

Review 49:Proximity to where I needed to be. Parking.

Review 50:The hot tubs were difficult to operate and one was not very warm. However, this was only a small inconvenience because overall they were very nice.

Review 51:The staff were incredible. Every single person we encountered was friendly and extra helpful. Really wonderful people. The breakfast buffet was top notch.

Review 52:People smoking outside blocks of rooms. Not a good look. Portacot mattress did not fit the base and left a gap for my baby to fall between, which she did in the night-luckily I woke up and used blankets to fit it.

Review 53:Breakfast was great. A nice selection. Rooms were comfortable too.

Review 54:Soundprofing is bad, we heard people returned back at midnight, speaking, shutting doors etc.

Review 55:Location is simply the best for swimming events/meets. Clean and nice room. Comfortables matresses.

Review 56:The fact that the door to our room was left a jar all day untill 9pm that night by the cleaning staff, and when I talked to reception about it they said they would get the door fix....nice real nice. We didnt eat at the place as we walked out due to lack of service and over priced food. And peolpe smoking outside the locked doors to the room areas.

Review 57:My first encounter with a staff member was the best bit of the stay and that was to ask where the best place to park would be, it went down hill after that.

Review 58:Lovely hotel, rooms are excellent, beds are very comfortable. Will stay agin next time if we come back to Hamilton . The staff was very friendly and helpful with good recommendations for other services outside the hotel

Review 59:After having specifically requested a quiet room when making the booking, we were placed in the middle of a school group. Needless to say constant slamming doors every 30 seconds, laughing and yelling in the hallways and then being woken early the next day (6.10am) by more of the same. Needless to say we were totally unimpressed and leaves me to wonder whether anybody actually looks at the room placements of incoming guests. Why would we be placed in the middle of a school group?

Review 60:The rooms were tired and need updating especially the mattress as the sheets were thin and the springs were felt! Cracked tiles in front of toilet very visible and very noisy fridge,

Review 61:Staff were excellent especially Matt on Reception.

Review 62:The 7 o'clock Sunday morning thumping presumably the gym. It would have been nice to have a little more of a sleep in.

Review 63:It didn't take too long to warm up the room after arriving cold and damp. Shower was nice too - helping to warm us up.

Review 64:I didn't like that they charged us for internet and the pillowwasn't comfortable and it was really flat and they should have realfresh milk for coffee and tea and very noisy. We could hear next doorusing the shower in the early morning

Review 65:Some confusion about number of beds required. First room offered, when the jug was plugged into the wall, it melted down the powerpoint at the wall. Could have been a serious fire. Decor getting a bit tired but reflected in reasonable rates.

Review 66:Great parking, great handy location, value for money.

Review 67:The hotel, like most hotels in New Zealand, is dated and tired. The look and feel of the hotel needs to be updated. Having 2 keys access to your room is annoying especially when you have your hands full with luggage and personal belongings.

Review 68:Carpet was very dirty, bed covers either stained or dirty, bathroom had strange hairs on the floor and the milk was off

Review 69:Restaurant staff and food very good.

Review 70:The fridge came on at 4am and woke me up with a high pitched humming sound. I couldnt get at the switch to turn it off.

Review 71:Very friendly and efficient staff. Good parking. Great tarrif.

Review 72:I booked and paid with my credit card (I thought) much earlier than when I stayed. When I arrived they told me my credit card had declined because someone at the booking end had put the wrong Expiry date in and so I had to pay again. No one had let me know this which I thought was poor.

Review 73:The beds were comfy

Review 74:The place is a little past its redo date, (not sure where you get the 4 stars from)especially the entrance's down the hall to your rooms,

Review 75:The spa pool

Review 76:I had booked a room months ahead asking to be with the group we were staying with. This did not happen! I was very sick at the time & found this a total unconvince.accused of not paying for two nights, when I actually had!

Review 77:The fact that it was close to the pool.

Review 78:The Kingsgate is starting to look a little tired. The hotel advertised that all their rooms were non smoking, though someone had been smoking in the room we were assigned (there was a faint smell and ash was found under the edge of the bed)

Review 79:The location was perfect for us - having a function in Te Rapa. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 80:door has a pin that locks the door so that our key didn't open. I went to the front desk and a lady came over with a master key. She said "it happens all the time" So if that is the case why have those stupid licks on the doors!

Review 81:staff were very nice and friendly

Review 82:Perfectly fine stay - some aspects of venue are getting a little tired but certainly very servicable still.

Review 83:Loads of space in the rooms, very quiet, staff are accommodating and helpful. Lots of parking and very close to pools which was the purpose of the stay.

Review 84:No Internet we were told we would have an hour free. that didn't happen. 1 hour is not suitable. creaking shower door. Hard bed. Old dirty jug. Locked in like jailbirds ??

Review 85:bus stops outside

Review 86:It is a little tired but that is ok

Review 87:Kingsgate is great value for money - cheap for a family. Our son loves the pool and spa read and it's great having a fitness centre for such a great price point per night. TV was actually nicer than the expensive hotel we had stayed in the night before. Just a short drive into town or the Base as well

Review 88:My heatpump wasnt working, and the little fridge in the room was so LOUD i just about unplugged

Review 89:Comfy bed, rooms spacious, good hot water with good water pressure

Review 90:A bit dated. Beds uncomfortable. Some staff not willing to help. Some menu choices not available and weren't able to offer good alternatives. Bathroom tiles super slippery.

Review 91:Big hotel. Plenty of room. Good location. room service breakfast very good.

Review 92:The breakfast is usually cold, the pillows need replacing, and the decor and rooms need an upgrade.

Review 93:The location is good, we have stayed here many times, spacious rooms, excellent staff.

Review 94:I found the pillows and bed hard but that may just be me..Not sure why I was charged an extra dollar something when all I consumed was milk from the fridge didn't see this until I got home.

Review 95:Location,very quiet ,very clean, warm and a great breakfast making it excellent value for the price we paid

Review 96:I'm a builder ,There was a problem in the shower the seal on thd bottom of the door needs attention and the water is running down towards the carpet and needs to bd fixed or the carpet will need replacing

Review 97:I like the space in the rooms not z cramped up little room

Review 98:Originally booked in for two nights but cancelled one night three orfour weeks before I stayed. I was still charged for two nights and whenI questioned it I was told that there was nothing they could do on theweekend but the Manager would phone me next day to discuss. I have notheard from anyone since. This is disappointing and I would not staythere again or would not recommend it to anyone else.

Review 99:In the 21st century wi fi should be as of right in your room and on a cold night you shouldn't have to leave your room and go to the reception hot spot nor should you have to pay extra for a voucher

Review 100:SERVICE AND FOOD

Review 101:The single bed in our room. Looked like it hadn't been changed . bottom sheet was scrunched up and had hair on it but didn't find this till late at night.

Review 102:We were able to get into room earlier and reception staff very nice

Review 103:Kingsgate was great , clean , warm and great location. Decor is dated, but everything else was excellent, had dinner in the restaurant "amazing"

Review 104:Internet is extortionate at minimum $10 per day to check your emails etc. By my calculation, based on 147 rooms that's a minimum 120 rooms occupied x $10 x 30 nights is $36000 pm to cover a maximum $200? monthly package Real struggle to get a table in an almost empty restaurant, then to get our order taken, and then to get what we ordered

Review 105:Easy car parking Conference support staff helpful

Review 106:Staff at the Kingsgate were particularly helpful in the restaurant and the front desk. Room service was prompt and efficient even when we ordered late in the evening.. Very friendly staff and could not do enough for us especially being a mature aged couple. We were recommended by our friends who regularly stay at the Kingsgate. We had an enjoyable night and breakfast the next morning. Just fantastic!

Review 107:Bed was not comfortable - too saggy and too much roll together. Couldn't find an extra blanket to put on bed

Review 108:Location was perfect for attending sporting event at the Hamilton Waterworld. Lovely big rooms for hotel rooms (compared to overseas) and well maintained. Very clean.

Review 109:every thing was good.

Review 110:Handy to town, clean and always offer a great breakfast. Staff are friendly always happy to help you and there is plently of parking available,

Review 111:We enjoyed the safety aspects of the hotel, the location was great, the ammenities were brilliant and it was nice and quiet. The only time I knew that a lot of people were staying at the hotel was by the amount of vehicles in the car park.

Review 112:One of the bottles of water in mini bar had been opened

Review 113:The front of house staff member was really nice. Was really helpful offered to let me park my motorcycle in a lit spot near the door

Review 114:Amenities have to change with times. Bath tiles are cracked and it's a Millennium group property and having been a guest at Copthorne, Rotorua, I felt let down that the standards of a large property is not upto it's mark.

Review 115:large property, just off the city centre.

Review 116:No we have never had any bad experiences from this Hotel and we have stayed here for years when we want time-off from busy Auckland where we live. It has always met our expectations and we are very very happy after staying here.

Review 117:We were able to do our daily gym which we do at our home and this Hotel has got a wonderful gym which we enjoy. It is very important to us as we are now getting old and must do the gym every day.

Review 118:The housekeeping in hallways was pretty dreadful. A lot of rubbish on floor that stayed in same place from Friday and still there Sunday morning. Buying internet usage seems a bit archaic in this day and age.

Review 119:Nice big room. The meal in restaurant in evening was excellent. Breakfast average though

Review 120:Our room was not cleaned properly on arrival. They did get it cleaned while we were having dinner and it was done to a high standard. We were credited free breakfasts.

Review 121:Having restaurant on site means you can relax with a few wines at dinner

Review 122:There were no teaspoons in the unit to stir our tea and coffee with. the bed was uncomfortable I think they need replacing.

Review 123:The receptionist was very pleasant, I was having a problem with my computer and she helped me resolve it.

Review 124:The room had a funky smell to it. First impression when walking into the reception area I had high expectations. The room was disappointing.

Review 125:The spa pool was a lovely way to wind down after a day of driving.

Review 126:Not a major, but the gym could do with bit of an update and more equipment to cater for woman, majority of the weights were too heavy for me!

Review 127:It's not often that you come across a comfortable hotel bed but the bed in my room was surprisingly comfy. The room was a very decent size for the price and the bathroom was great, including a great mirror for getting ready, something else that hotels often lack!

Review 128:Having lots of bags and having to go through two to three doors to get to the rooms. No option to cook for yourself.

Review 129:Service was good. Very accommodating when changing rooms because of the firm beds.

Review 130:Wing 500 signage of room numbers without thinking about it thought our numbers were on the top level as to how the numbers read. When we got up realised our room was down ,my mum was 90years old.

Review 131:Being within range to use courtesy vehicles from our venue

Review 132:Kingsgate Hotel is quite central to everything in Hamilton. Has great facilities for functions. Breakfast was lovely. Will defiantly be back to stay when in Hamilton again.

Review 133:Bed very uncomfortable- obviously very old. Shabby looking hotel- needs a good clean up and a paint. Better value for money in motels near by

Review 134:The gym and the pool
