Reviews for Ashinoko Ichinoyu
Review 1:Great place to stay in Hakone. very close to Lake Ashinoko and just walk distance to it. nice staff and very clean rooms. Jpanese hot pot for dinner in winter to keep u worm i guess and also Japanese breakfast with a small pot of soup. Can reserve a privite Onsen when u check in and just write down your room number on a board which left time available to you. a bit hot Onsen compared with Kawakuchiko's. quiet place to saty for the night or stay lager.
Review 2:Can't complain much coz the price is cheap Only thing is from Lake Ashi cannot view Mount Fuji
Review 3:The food and drinks was good! It's a very good experience staying in a ryokan.
Review 4:If I were to nitpick, it will be the toilet stuck in the 1980s. No heated toilet seat is a minor minus.
Review 5:- Marvellous food. We stayed there for 3 nights and the staff gave us a different menu each night. Really appreciate the touch and to top it off, food quality was heavenly. - Good location 7 mins walk from Togendai. Provides good access to all modes of transport - rope way, Tozan bus and sightseeing cruise. - Allows reservation for private access to onsen.
Review 6:The outside private onsen of this hotel welcomes you with a slightly sulfurous smell when approaching the hotel. A very kind receptionist welcomed me (in perfectly understandable English) and introduced me to the "rules" (dinner time, use of onsen, ...). It's a very nice place for relaxing, e.g., after a day of hiking in the Hakone National Park.
Review 7:The room had this mouldy stench, sort of like when your clothes weren't dry completely. The toilet was also not as clean as expected. It was also silly that the bathroom curtains were too short, such that when you shower, the entire bathroom ends up wet!
Review 8:The meals were pretty good and they were very generous. Also like the fact that you could book the onsen for private usage!
Review 9:The Inn advertised evening meals would be available if requested prior to 6 pm. We arrived by taxi before 5pm only to find that the dining room closed that night and we could walk to the town for a choice of places to eat -"very sorry". Then, when we were setting off, others were going in to dine. We again asked if might just have some soup in the hotel - "very sorry" - they had change the rules on the previous day. 2 nearly 70 yr old women were sent off in the dark even though there was a wild boar warning notice at reception. Thankfully,1 cafe was open and had good food.
Review 10:The location is peaceful, isolated in a forest setting not far from the lake. It is a 10- 15 minute walk to bus terminal for returning to Hakone or taking the boat on lake Ashi. Even though the curtains and surrounds were grubby, the indoor and outside hot tubs were good to relax in.
Review 11:The ensuite bathroom could do with a little maintenance.
Review 12:Conveniently located fairly close (10 minute walk) to the Togendai cruise terminal. Quiet and comfortable facilities. The open air hot spring baths can be booked for private periods. Staff were friendly and responsive. The Japanese dinner and breakfast were excellent.
Review 13:This ryokan was our only disappointment on our travel through Japan. The truth is that all the other hotels are setting the expectations above the international standards, however you can find much better places around. To sum it up: - low price/value ratio - you have to order the dinner one day prior your arrival - only Japanese style breakfast - behavior of the receptionist
Review 14:Only two pros would be parking and location.
Review 15:Size of the rooms fantastic, evening meals WOW - traditional Japanese, Breakfast very good. Staff so courteous and welcoming, especially little Emily on reception, very knowledgeable. Very tranquil and relaxing.
Review 16:Bring a flashlight if you are walking there from the station or bus stop after dark... There are NO lights on the street! From the bus stop there is a good short cut through a parking lot so you don't have to go all the way around the hairpin curve but it is hard to see it in the dark.
Review 17:Great value for money! Room was a bit old but clean and big, and bed was comfy. Option to reserve a private session in the outdoor onsen was incredible - so peaceful and relaxing. The complimentary japanese breakfast was also delicious and a fun thing to experience - fish for breakfast was definitely a first for me! Location is good, about 5-10 minutes walk from togendai station and pier
Review 18:the staff not too familiar with English but still ok and wifi is bad as up and down
Review 19:The location. Downside is the owakudani is down due to volcano activity and the rope way is close. Do buy with half board as super value for money. Add in sashimi boat and unlimited alcohol drink and private onsen. What else can beat this
Review 20:Not convenience to go out at night , outside hotel is too dark if wish to walk around.
Review 21:It need some walk to reach for those non drive traveller it a bit trouble.
Review 22:The hotel is close to Togendai (桃源台) (less than 10 minutes walking). It's convenient for travellers using Odakyu Fuji Hakone pass (小田急富士箱根周遊). We enjoyed the hot spring. The dinner and breakfast are also quite good.
Review 23:This place is very isolated and if you haven't booked dinner in the hotel at least a day in advance you can forget about eating in the hotel. We arrived for the 3pm check in and since the ropeway was closed due to the volcanic activity nearby we were pretty much stuck in the locality for the rest of the day. I'd you don't book dinner then there is only one restaurant nearby that is open after 5. If you miss that then all you'll get are pot noodle at the reception. Breakfast was traditional Japanese and if you like fish and rice in the morning you'll be delighted. Of that doesn't float your boat well then tough, there is nothing else. I expected perhaps there would a simple western offering of maybe cereal if the elaborate breakfast want to your tastaste but no. Only water and black soy bean tea were available to drink. As for the rooms they were spacious. We booked a double western room but were oven a twin room. The beds were not done during our stay but perhaps that was down to a bad translation at check in "do you want the beds changed daily?" The small steps into the room were a nuisance and a trip hazard. Over all I wouldn't stay here again nor would I recommend someone stay here. It's too isolated with too much precious holiday time wasted waiting for public transport and anxiety about missing the last bus home. There is nothing to do in the locality after 5pm.
Review 24:The onsen was nice
Review 25:- the place where it is, is very small. If you want to have a calm stay out of rush you'll be fine - as there are not a lot of restaurants all around, we recommend to take half pension in the hotel.
Review 26:Everything was just excellent. + the stuff was adorable + breakfast was breathtaking (Japanese breakfast) + private outdoor onsen use + near the lake, easy to get up on the mountain to see the fuji.
Review 27:Tiny Bathroom, but hey.. you don't spend all they in it do you? Long walk from Hakone Ropeway station.. 10 mins walk..
Review 28:Traditional Japanese Experience. Great Food (both Breakfast and Dinner), Free-flow Softdrinks, Beers, Sake and eve Soju at Dinner. Private Onsen. Staffs' attention to our needs were outstanding (despite the obvious language barrier with some staff, they did try their best)
Review 29:I wish I knew the requirements for signing up for their dinner. I didn't see it displayed properly on the page when booking.
Review 30:All the amenities for this ryokan was superb.
Review 31:The hotel is quite old really. If you travel by hakone free pass, you need to walk quite a bit. Otherwise, you can pay extra to catch izu hakone bus which will stop at hakone academy bus stop, around 2mins walk from the property.
Review 32:I like that you only have to pay 150 pp for private bath for 40mins. You can choose the time when you check in.
Review 33:The private bath is a nice experience. Dinner is filling with free flowing drink. But be sure to read labels, some of the fruit drinks have little alcohol content. Nice taste of typical Japanese breakfast.
Review 34:This place is so inconvenient if you don't have your own car. Bus ride from Odawara Station is over an hour and cost 1200 yen, which is a little over $100. After you get off bus, you still need to walk more than 5 minutes. Everything closes early there so not a lot of food options.Staff is also not very friendly.
Review 35:The private bath/onsen was the best part of the stay. Super relaxing to be able to soak in that tub.
Review 36:Our toilet leaked. When we informed the staff, they did their best to help us -- by surrounding the basin with towels -- but could not move us, as the hotel was fully booked. They gave us a discount, but only at our insistence, which was a bit awkward. We booked a triple, which meant we had a room with two beds and a roll-up futon for the floor, which was thin and uncomfortable.
Review 37:The hotel's hot springs were nice, and it was a treat that guests are able to book a private time slot in the evening. We enjoyed that they incorporated elements of traditional Japanese guest houses -- tatami mats, a low table with tea service, yukata robes, and the Japanese breakfast, which was very nice.
Review 38:The room we were allocated was next to a vending machine which was pretty noisy when people used it late at night.
Review 39:Great location near the top of Lake Ashi (walking distance to Togendai Pier and the lakefront). Dinner and breakfast were a real treat.
Review 40:Toilet is worn out and tap water is slow. No fresh face towels daily. Room did not have Japanese bedding as stated (we did have our western bed). Staff not friendly, sulky serious face but they will provide answer when asked.
Review 41:What is stated on the internet is there, the hot baths and the set menu breakfast. Close to bus stop, ropeway and ferry terminal. They fill up the tea bags daily. The place is very peaceful and I will return if its slightly cheaper, considering rooms are worn out.
Review 42:walk 10 min from ropeway station. good view at walkway near Ashi Lake. comfortable and warm welcome. fantastic dinner and breakfast. I love this. Private out door onsen is lovely.
Review 43:The distance from Togendai station is a bit far as you will have to go along the road down to a cross-way to the other side of the road then go up towards the hotel. It will take about 15 minutes walk from the station. If there is a cross-way in the middle, it will only take 5 minutes from Togendai station.
Review 44:Outdoor onsen is excellent. Very comfortable beds for a double bed room with a tatami style space for tea. Staff service is very good. Dinner and breakfast are spectacular. If you are looking for a place for comfort and family time, this is a very good choice.
Review 45:Should advise customers about booking dinner beforehand as one cannot find any restaurants in the near precinct.
Review 46:It is situated in a very quiet place and the facilities are good.
Review 47:It was not always possible to use the wifi in the room, the connection was bad. Only one reservation per day is aloud for the outdoor spa, and you can't use it even if there is nobody in it.
Review 48:The hotel is 2 min. from a bus station and 5 min. from the lake. The outdoor spa is private, so you have to make a reservation. The dinner meal is delicious, plenty of food and drinks (alcohol included). The public bath is clean and pleasant.
Review 49:The receptionist on duty was extremely rude during the check in process. We were trying to clarify few things about the stay but he seemed impatient and showed unfriendly faces. Please train your staff!
Review 50:Food was good; we love the private onsen and spacious rooms.
Review 51:- personal was really nice and helpful. - location of the hotel is perfect close to Lake Ashinoko and really close to the robe way station - The hot spring bath was great. Definitely I recommend this place!!!
Review 52:The room was very cold; bathroom was very old with fixtures covered in a layer of scale and shower curtain all moldy. The hotel is situated near the bus stops and a ropeway, but there isn't a single decent shop or restaurant nearby and everything closes at about 5 o'clock, so if you haven't booked your dinner at the hotel (it's impossible to do this via booking) then you'll have to buy cup noodle at the hotel as there's no other place to go. And it took us about 3 hours to reach the hotel from Odawara station with Hakone free pass using all the ropeways, so you have to arrive really early so as not to lose half of the day traveling to the hotel to check in. If you plan to leave in the evening by bus, then get ready for traffic jams when going back to Hakone-Yumoto or Odawara.
Review 53:The only good thing about this hotel is that you can use their onsen privately for 40 mins.
Review 54:- Have to check-in very early for dinner - Not really english speaking
Review 55:- Very good location : near boat and funicular departure - Good services (onsen, bathtub, tea and kettle) - Traditional breakfast
Review 56:Generosity with towels, needs more cleanliness especially on futon, leak in bathroom requiring extra towels,
Review 57:Onsen, room size, kimonos, included breakfast, bed comfort, tv,
Review 58:Seemed to be class distinction.Internet bookings were in rooms on ground floor with no views. On booking in we were informed that the restaurant was not open in evening but when we were going out to find a local restaurant there were people eating there. On second evening on returning we looked to book the onsen. It was fully booked until midnight but there was one time slot at 22.00 hours with a Japanese word after it.I enquired if the slot was available and was told it was for cleaning.I asked if it could be switched with the vacant midnight slot but no way.Breakfast was entirely Japanese. If you do not eat this food there was absolutely nothing else only coffee.Totally over priced.Futton was soft so you woke in the morning with sore bones. Not suitable for older people.
Review 59:Onsen
Review 60:Something on the bed that bitten me but I can't see anything. Hotel too far in the wood and quite scary after 5pm. We reach at around 5pm when it started to get dark and can't find the hotel.
Review 61:Nice environment and loves the private Olsen.
Review 62:Room had a musty smell when we entered. Opening the window helped. Room did not have tatami mats but a carpet which was probably the reason for the smell. Family onsen had no soap and was not so pleasant. Women's onsen was much nicer and had soap, shampoo and conditioner. No restaurants in area that provide dinner. Everything closes at 5pm so we had to buy vacuum packaged food from the convenience store in town which we ate cold in our room. But also got hot rice balls from machine in the store.
Review 63:Great breakfast. Comfortable mattress with warm good quality duvet. Within walking distance of ropeway and ferry.
Review 64:Without a car evening outings limited(we were there in November not high season)
Review 65:Access to the onsen was unlimited-great way to start and end the day. At the rope way and boat cruise station- very convenient. Amazing breakfasts
Review 66:We had to walk about 10 minutes from Togendai ropeway station to find the hotel. Luckily I had google map with me. But it could be inconvenient if searching the location during the bad weather. The breakfast was delicious, but the dinner had no taste. Dinner was pork shabu-shabu. We dont eat pork. I have written in the memo during reservation in Booking.com regarding this no-pork food request, but the hotel said they didn't receive any notification, so we only got no-taste-vegetable-soup as our main dishes for dinner. But the side dishes such as fish and scallop were delicious.
Review 67:We stayed 1 night in this hotel. The room is clean and spacious enough for 3 of us, of course in Japanese standard size. It was the first time for my family to try real Japanese onsen, and they enjoyed the experience very much. Price is value for money, as dinner and breakfast are included. The outdoor onsen was nice, although small and no view. Better to hurry book the schedule to use outdoor onsen as it is private use only from 16.00 until midnight. Indoor onsen is available any time.
Review 68:wheelchair friendly, ground floor rooms .only one step on the ground floor onsen experience wonderful hospitality great Japanese food experience included in the room rate
Review 69:We did not like the lack of flexibility. We got to the hotel on a rainy day at 14:50. No one paid attention to us until after 15:00 the official checkin time.
Review 70:The breakfast was quite good. The public bath was reasonable.
Review 71:There were no good information (maps) about the location. After 17.00 there is no option to find a place to eat (you can still eat at the hotel thought). The room was a bit old and dirty (bathroom especially).
Review 72:Location was good but...
Review 73:To book the dinner too much in advance.
Review 74:The open air onsen is really nice. You have to book a timeslot but it is worthy. The rooms wih private bathroom are really nice.
Review 75:Breakfast was only Japanese style and not very tasty, which was expected since it's a ryokan. Staff barely knew any English (but tried to be helpful).
Review 76:Room size was nice, good bathing facilities, clean room and relatively close to the boat/bus terminal.
Review 77:It was a nice place and we got to schedule private time to use hot spring. The location was great to access to Togendai station for ropeway and cruise. The staffs are nice, too.
Review 78:Japanese Cousine. A must for japnese food lovers! 5 star Traditional Food!
Review 79:Bathroom had a strong stench of urine smell which was quite unpleasant since it was very near the tatami mat where i slept.
Review 80:Meals and onsen were good.
Review 81:A bit far from Togendai Station.
Review 82:I like the environment.
Review 83:room bed
Review 84:japanese dinner
Review 85:Location for maple leave
Review 86:Staff & hotel are so nice & valuable. Will introduce to my friends.
Review 87:The Togendai city is small. In October, it seems that all the city is closed at 6:00 pm
Review 88:Suffering distance for travellers on foot
Review 89:Private use of onsen!! Comfy bed and breakfast! Quiet environment!
Review 90:No dinner services in the evening
Review 91:Far from minimart but closed to hakone pier. You can feel private in this area.i love private onsen here.
Review 92:The room is clean and cosey.
Review 93:Really unfriendly staff, room with bed instead of futon
Review 94:The area around the hotel is really nice, many other hotels are available in the area
Review 95:facility is old
Review 96:hotspring
Review 97:The normal twin room was just small and nothing, the Japanese style room will be better
Review 98:The Dinner and Breakfast was great, the hotspring also good.
Review 99:the young front desk staff is very nice and helpful. Delicious food, reasonable price and few people, a quite place for relaxing
Review 100:Love dinner that gave us free drinks, beers unlimit till you were full
Review 101:Not much else in the area.
Review 102:Friendly staff, great value for amount paid.
Review 103:I was not aware the amount i booked online is not inclusive of onsen fees.
Review 104:short cut to cable station was closed
Review 105:comfortable bed, reasonable price and good food
Review 106:We had to rush through dinner and onsen fully booked
Review 107:Price
Review 108:The onsen (hot spring bathing facilities) and hot pot dinner
Review 109:enjoy the Japanese breakfast and the private spring in the evening
Review 110:No convini in the area and only one restaurant.
Review 111:Nice place and the staff is fine. The rooms were spacious and the onsesns were good.
