Reviews for Hakone Onsen Sanso Nakamura

Review 1:The interior appears fairly old and the men's toilet smells to the rooms. The place does not make for a romantic outing as the high price would suggest.

Review 2:It's nice traditional guesthouse with all the goodies (kimono, sleeping on the floor) and its own inhouse onzen. It's a great starting point to explore the surrounding mountains and relax in the evening in the bath. The staff is friendly.

Review 3:WYSIWYG. 'Ma and pa' run establishment, and it had a homey, relaxed feel about it. The lady of the Onsen was super friendly and spoke relatively good English so that was comforting. There are far newer, flashier and no doubt more luxurious places in Hakone, but we were after something more earthy and traditional and this fit the bill perfectly. A really great experience. Was towards the end of the Togendai busline so a bit of a distance from most things, but close to Togendai which is where the Rope Car (cable) and lake cruises leave from so that was great.

Review 4:There isn't anything I could say that's wrong with this place

Review 5:It was a lovely place. We all enjoyed our stay there even though it rained the whole time. The breakfast that was served was fantastic and the staff were lovely the whole time.

Review 6:Room was not very clean. A lot of dust. The building smells like smoke a combination of cigarette and kerosene smoke. The lack of a shower was the worst. There are open showers in the onsen however these are not sufficent. There is no hot water anywhere but the onsen. The bed was the traditional japanese type. Thin mattress on a matt. Was no so bad. I think this is way overpriced for the service received.

Review 7:The onsen was nice. Location was 5 or so mins from a bus stop.

Review 8:It probably has 30 years old so for the price I paid usd 120 maybe i expected something more upgraded.

Review 9:It was quiet and far from everything else. I paid usd 20 for a taxi from gora station to the hotel. The staff has limited english but are polite. The room is clean. Bathrooms are shared. Breakfast not included. It was ok, i enjoyed the one nite there in a japanese room

Review 10:very nicely located, very friendly hosts - they do speak enough english to help you if needed and enjoy your stay, very nice room, private atmosphere, unique, two onzens - one small and the other larger

Review 11:It is quite far away from the station so you really need to get a taxi there, there is a bus stop nearby though so for other journeys to and from the ryokan the bus service is easy enough to use.

Review 12:The ryokan has a nice communal space where dinner is served and also the onsen facilities are good for relaxing with, despite the modest size. Also unlike the reviews we were able to communicate successfully with the owner with our broken Japanese and her broken English, so communication needn't be a problem.

Review 13:Only public toilet provided, no dinner and breakfast included, price is high.

Review 14:quiet place, beautiful view around the hotel.

Review 15:When the owners found out nobody had dinner plans they walked us into town and took us out for dinner at a local restaurant.

Review 16:there is no private washroom, public ones are not so clean

Review 17:the onsen, it seems a real one

Review 18:share toilet

Review 19:friendly people

Review 20:away from main sights, staff don't speak english

Review 21:atmosphere of real old time Japan, nice clean japanese style rooms

Review 22:Staff no english

Review 23:Private and silent
