Reviews for Akaroa Cottages - Heritage Boutique Collection

Review 1:Not value for money. This was the most expensive place we stayed in and by far the most dated and dirtiest. It is in desperate need of refurbishment if you are going to charge rates like that. Driveway was difficult to get down in the rain. Chair has torn fabric, lounge and bed uncomfortable, bathroom had mould and dust. Extremely disappointed!

Review 2:Nice view

Review 3:The walk to and from town was difficult. It was only when we asked about taxis to get back up the dangerous steep hill on a road with no footpaths in the dark that we found out the resort will collect you on request. Wish we' d known!

Review 4:Private, nicely designed and layer out.

Review 5:Access very steep and difficult to drive out of parking space on a hill. When wet very difficult to grip tyres .

Review 6:Well appointed and relaxing environment Jacuzzi bath View to akaroa pier

Review 7:I was pretty disappointed at the stingy internet policy- limited to one use! which doesn't work when you come and go during your stay... i'd think given the nightly rate you'd offer 24 hr free wifi, which is pretty standard across NZ accom

Review 8:Beautiful location! Staff were lovely and the rooms were nice and private. Proximity to town was great- views amazing!

Review 9:The entry roads to both reception and the cottages are not sealed and some areas are very corrugated. Had some trouble getting up one hilly area near the front of the property on one occasion.

Review 10:The view was spectacular. Loved hearing the resident bird-life. Very quiet otherwise. The studio was very comfortable. Nice touches such as the welcoming note and fudge. Also wonderful to come home on a wet, cool day to find the fire had been turned on in our cottage.

Review 11:Driveway in very bumpy but otherwise everything really good.

Review 12:Beautiful surroundings very peaceful. Lovely place to relax and unwind. Property very well maintained.

Review 13:Unit was a little dated. Driveway was a mess - not really suitable for small 2WD rental cars.

Review 14:Close to Akaroa. View to over Akaroa was beautiful but could only be seen from one window. Gas fireplace heated room easily.

Review 15:The beds where like rock, the first night we had the croquet cottage my husband ran a spa bath, turned it on just to have brown greasy mucus coat the top of the water (we were informed by the cleaner that new sewage lines had been connected to the cottage.) we ended up paying $115 per night it was that disgusting, couch was ripped and cleanliness of the place was poor, my own home is cleaner. we were moved to the cottage beside this very small and not cleaned properly plates in the cupboard still wet and had gone slimy. A lot of furniture for a small area, Pictures are very miss leading of this place and i would NEVER stay again even using a heritage card for discounts still isn't worth it if you are looking for peace on your wedding anniversary very disappointing and unsanitary my husband left akaroa cottages with a skin rash from the spa!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 16:the location is very peaceful away from town which is nice for the evenings no road noise but thats it.

Review 17:We all felt like it could have been cleaner. There was quite a bit of dust and some of the saucepans were not cleaned properly.

Review 18:the location and privacy of the house. Perfect for couples travelling together and a great rate. Fresh clean linen and beds made beautifully.

Review 19:Expected lazy boy recliners and a log fire as shown on the website. Driveway in a shocking condition. Dust on skirting boards in bathroom and very thick on carpet and skirting boards behind bed. Used the spa bath, water very scummy after i turned on the jets. Sea view if you stood up at the window only.

Review 20:Location was okay. Perfect for feeling isolated and away from others, not within walking distance to the town

Review 21:Stunning view, comfortable bed, very secluded

Review 22:Could only get view if stood at very end of balcony Smell in bathroom fridge froze all our food - even tomato and eggs overpriced for what it is No stunning views from room like advertised

Review 23:Location that you discounted for the problems in the unit

Review 24:The couch could have been a bit more comfortable.

Review 25:The location was beautiful and we loved hearing all the birds singing. It felt like a real retreat, yet it was close to the township. The cottage itself had everything we needed and was very clean.

Review 26:It's not even a disadvantage just a point to mention - if you decide to walk to Akaroa there is a steep hill on your way so it's better to drive)

Review 27:Fully equipped cottages surrounded by wilderness with a fireplace, spa bath, kitchenette, comfortable furniture etc. Great attention to details, everything you may think of is there for you: matches, firelighters, firewood, bathrobes etc. Really enjoyed the view and the peaceful settings - a great place for relaxation/ sitting outside having a glass of wine! Would recommend to anyone!

Review 28:no view of the harbour, torn fabric on the couch. shower - poor pressure and difficult ro get the temperature right. wouldnt want to stay at that particular cottage again.

Review 29:Was not very private in the studio accommodation. I should also have checked whether the cottage had any sunlight...it didn't. Position of cottage meant no sun at all, even on the deck....obviously should have expected this with a bush setting. The worst thing was the smell form the bathroom which we suspected was from the septic tank...very off putting.

Review 30:Nice location in a bush setting

Review 31:Lighting inside was inadequate. Heating was inadequate and we would have froze if it wasn't for the fireplace. A fire is not really useful for the AM when one does not usually light a fire for quick warmth.

Review 32:Nice to have a view and a fireplace Confortable chairs in living area

Review 33:the weather! the pace that was reccommended for breakfast was very disappointing

Review 34:Nick's friendly welcome, gas fire, mattress and pillows, view, setting, native birds

Review 35:As everything in Akaroa closed early we were looking forward to watching a movie but it was impossible as the Sky TV reception didn't work properly and kept dropping out.

Review 36:Stunning view and location!

Review 37:Genuinely one of the best places we've ever stayed. Will be making special trips to NZ just to stay here! We stayed in the Laneside cottage and the room was perfect with a log fire, big comfy bed and a double spa bath, topped off with an amazing view of the Akaroa bay.

Review 38:The bathroom wasn't cleaned to a high standard, surface mould on walls and toilet was not cleaned from previous guest. Windows were grubby as well. I mentioned this on checkout.

Review 39:The seclusion and fire. We had a fantastic relaxing night. The birds in the morning was spectacular.

Review 40:bathroom was dated and in need of a good scrubbing or renovation. heating the cottage was a challenge at times so we had to stoke the fire a bit more than usual.

Review 41:Loved the location, setting, privacy and ease of booking. great fireplace but needed a cleaning. kitchen was equipped enough to make a small meal.

Review 42:Great to have a gas log fire however the instructions for use need to be accessible. I had to try & read them off the fire which was very close to the window.

Review 43:Quiet spot. Reasonable walk into cafes etc.

Review 44:This operator cares. The little things like fresh firewood, and fire starters, to make sure it's easy to use tge fireplace. The courtesy van to/from the town night or day to make sure we got around without hassle. Far enough removed to be quiet and secluded with a beautiful view but close enough that it's minutes from the town. Great staff, impeccable service, an all around 10/10 experience. We're already making plans to stay there again in the summer!

Review 45:The cleanliness of the cottage left something to be desired, the bathroom had dead flies and fly dust on the ceiling, and the bed head had clearly not been dusted for some time

Review 46:We loved the private nature of the cottages, perfect setting

Review 47:Nothing, for us it was perfect

Review 48:The views were beautiful and stepping into a heated studio was delightful. We would have liked to stay longer but this was not possible

Review 49:TV cut in and out of reception, was unwatchable most of the time. Decor was a bit outdated

Review 50:Location and view were GORGEOUS! Staff very friendly and the little touches of the greeting card, fudge on the bed and toiletries were much lovely. Also having the cabin fully equipped with hair dryer iron, kitchen accessories were much appreciated.

Review 51:The room was absolutely freezing when we first arrived, so we had to sit in our jackets and shiver for about the first hour until the place warmed up

Review 52:Just nit picking though. Absolutely beautiful location, comfy bed, really cute and cosy little cottage

Review 53:No oven, real downside, we would stop for a week next time but without this with children we would only do 2-3 days.

Review 54:View were fantastic, great host, clean and warm. Will certainly be booking again for longer next time.

Review 55:Nothing

Review 56:It was a lovely cosy little cottage. the storm was literally raging outside but it was beautiful inside. We kept the curtains opened and looked out over the harbor with all the lights. It was stunning

Review 57:No staff present when checking in - had left note stating "running up the road - back in 20 minutes" without stating a time note was posted . Another couple also waiting. Room heating (electric & gas fire on full when entering room - in excess of 40deg).

Review 58:Layout and facilities excellent. Landscaping etc - top notch. Very comfortable. Blissfully private, contemporary and homely. Very relaxing. And staff DID try to be as helpful as possible.

Review 59:Lovely and beautiful cottages situated either a two minutes drive or 20 min light walk into town. The Manager was so delightful to deal with and when the WiFi stopped working helped in ensuring it was up and running. Definitely the nicest place we stayed without a doubt and the value for money is unbelievable. We can't wait to go back !

Review 60:Wish the fire had a damper as the cottage got really hot, then really cold in the early hours of the morning. Also wish we'd had more kindling as we would have relit the fire again.

Review 61:Loved the cosy warmth of the fire. Very private cottage.

Review 62:Bathroom not very clean, squashed bugs on ceiling, dirty mirror, dirty floor and bath just wiped clean....initially looked clean at a glance

Review 63:Great views, and well secluded considering the various cottages onsite.

Review 64:Very tired inside the property, carpets very worn kitchen and bathroom need a serious update. I was lead to believe I was getting a log fire but no. So not again

Review 65:The view was amazing from the house.

Review 66:Staff were responsive to our needs and cheerful in the face of adversity. When we discovered a suspicious stain from a previous guest on our comforter, they happily replaced it. When the parental lock prevented us from watching a TV channel, they patiently provided the code, and when an electrical fire in our bathroom forced us to flee barefoot and half naked down the hill to reception, the staff extinguished it and provided us with a place to shower, dress and recover our nerve.

Review 67:Unfortunately not enough privacy from the noisy neighbours through the inter-leading door - and the tiled bathroom floor was not heated - so a bit harsh on bare feet and a sharp contrast to the cosiness of the rest of the cottage.

Review 68:The cottage was very inviting with a fire going in the room when we arrived - big tick! A good view over Akaroa harbour and most of the comforts one would expect. We checked out slightly late which was no problem - so another big tick!

Review 69:Ash not cleared from log fire. Tv not the greatest angle if you want tosit on the sofa but we just moved it further around which was ok.

Review 70:We found Akaroa Cottages on a last minute deal when we arrived to somevery bad weather. We got more than we expected for the deal because thecottage was extremely comfortable and cosy. The bed was the comfiest Islept in during my travels, complete with electric blanket to keep mewarm during the cold night. The log fire was lovely but made the room abit smokey- unfortunately the ash hadn't been cleared out which ismy only criticism (we should have done it ourselves). The kitchen hadeverything we needed and the bath spa was lovely.

Review 71:the cottage was tidy nice and cosy and we loved coming back from dinner in town and the log burner was still crackling ... especially now in the cold winter days its a perfect spot for a weekend getaway - also heaps of space in the cottage :)

Review 72:It is a bit of a difficult walk to the shops/restaurants etc so we ate in the cottage instead. The lovely lady on reception did offer to pick us up from town if we wanted to go out for dinner though :-)

Review 73:Cottage was secluded with everything we needed. Was lovely to have a nice fire going on a cold night :-)

Review 74:We felt the images on the website are very misleading. It appears that all cottages have beautiful views - this is not the case. The heater didn't work - thankfully had the fire as backup.

Review 75:Our cottage was comfortable - but not what we expected from the photos on the website. The bed was fantastic.

Review 76:The 3 bedroom cottage is looking a little tired in places - upstairs shower, doors, kitchen bench, carpets and leaking tap. The corrugated driveway in needs greatest attention.

Review 77:Commanding views of the Harbour. Easy to warm rooms.

Review 78:Odd areas of decor a little dated. Driveway really rutted, which wasn't kind to out sports car.

Review 79:Stayed here on our Honeymoon 15 years ago and loved it. It was great to see the standard has been maintained. Great views. Fantastic private setting.

Review 80:needs more storage space - for luggage and groceries.

Review 81:great view, very pleasant surroundings. Bed was comfortable - which is very important. Washer/dryer very useful.

Review 82:Toilet kept breaking with no flush for some time.Plumber was called out by manager who tried to help but it broke again. No wardrobe space in 2nd bedroom and also need for bedside lamp.

Review 83:Location and fantastic views of akaroa.

Review 84:Driveway a bit bumpy (although we just laughed as we got jostled about in our car).

Review 85:Everything. I wanted to stay longer. The peace and quiet was wonderful. Staff carried out a special request to have a single rose put on the table as it was our anniversary. They didn't have to but did, so that was kind.

Review 86:Internet could be better.

Review 87:Nice and secluded from the other apartments. Everything we could want in regards to facilities. Would like to come back in winter when the log burner is on.

Review 88:needs some work on the driveway

Review 89:Loved the privacy of the property, still a comfortable walk into the village. The cabin was comfortable and it was nice to be away from the busyness of the town when the ships are in. Loved Akaroa!

Review 90:'free' wifi was poor. Essentially non-existent.

Review 91:Everything; locale, the park-like area the cottages were in, the cottages themselves, the privacy, view, Akaroa itself. Highly recommended.

Review 92:The bed was too soft and really needed updating and the roads need to be sealed as they were very steep and slippery, it wouldn't be fun driving on them in winter.

Review 93:Loved the bath and the cottage itself. Location was good too.

Review 94:The cottages are about a kilometre outside the actual town which frees you from the occasional hustle and bustle when cruise ships visit lovely Akaroa. Surrounded by bush with good views of the bay.

Review 95:Our stay to Akaroa Cottages got off to a bad start and never really recovered. After a beautiful drive to Akaroa from Christchurch, we got lost trying to find the property. It turns out that the sign “Akaroa Cottages” is only 4 inches tall and the main road sign stated “Country Cottages” which I thought was another property. After doubling back and reaching the property, we were met with the greeting “you will be charged an extra $35 for twin beds” as the cottage had a queen bed. It turns out that when I booked the property on Booking.com I requested twin beds but never heard back from the hotel. Finally, after taking a nice warm bath I was looking forward to curling up in bed to check my email with the WiFi. Unfortunately the WiFi did not reach our cottage (which we were warned about by the staff) so I ended up standing outside in my raincoat in the laundry area to avoid the wind. Although the actual cottage was clean and comfortable, I think that the property was overpriced for what it was (or was not!).

Review 96:Old stove Private cottage atmosphere

Review 97:Location less than convenient. Management invisible. Internet at extra extra cost is so slow as to be useless. Kitchen lacking essential tools.

Review 98:Comfort of the cottages

Review 99:The view from our room was fantastic. We loved the gardens and the comfort of our room. There was plenty of room and comfy places to sit and the kitchen was fully equipped. A highly recommended place.

Review 100:The cabin we stayed in was 'dated' but comfortable

Review 101:The serenity, the views and the friendly and efficient service of the Managers and 'Rick'.

Review 102:Cabin could do with an upgrade, although still very acceptable.

Review 103:Wood fire View Location Hidden in amongst greenery Management and staff very helpful Quietness

Review 104:The garden setting for the cottages that provided quiet and a sense ofseclusion was really beautiful. All the blossom trees were flowering andthere was a mass of lush spring green. We had a three bedroomed cottagethat provided privacy for all the people in out group. It was goodhaving two bathrooms too. It was a really cold weekend when we stayedhere and heating had been turned on prior to our arrival. I'ddefinitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Review 105:We stayed in the mountain view cottage and was more than impressed. The cabin was totally private with parking right beside, a great fireplace and spabath, and little personal touches like fudge on arrival that made it really special. It was a 10 minute walk into town with beautiful views the entire way. Will definitely be back!

Review 106:Poor road. Limited breakfast ( English breakfast was missing).

Review 107:Good location. Great view. Clean facilities. Excellent service. Excellent staff. Very relaxing.

Review 108:metal road surface leading up to reception and access to cottages could be improved, but a minor point

Review 109:Spacious cottage, heaps of privacy, lovely log/wood burner, spa bath. overall a wonderful stay and a great view of Akaroa township and harbour from the cottage

Review 110:No phone in room. So to contact reception, we need to drive upto reception. Didnt think that was convenient.

Review 111:Very nice and peaceful .. Loved the idea of being aloof. Very nice lovely cottages with all amenities. Awesome way to experience country side

Review 112:My wife and i loved the secluded little cottages with the log fire and spa bath it was such a relaxing 2 days and it was only by chance that i come accross this accomadation when i googled akaroa accomadation

Review 113:The condition of the cottage. Very tired. Spa bath had a lot of cracks. The fire didn't work properly and we kept getting smoked out.

Review 114:I loved the location and the idea of the cottage. Bed was very comfortable. The surroundings with the native birds singing was awesome.

Review 115:Kitchen a little basic. Noise from our adjoining unit. Shower drain did not drain very well-- had to stand in water. Shower curtains not long enough to stop whole floor from getting wet.

Review 116:Fabulous view from our unit. Comfy unit. Heater on when we arrived. Gas fire. Bird songs. Quiet. Good bed. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 117:bathroom wasn't clean "enough", lack of spare toilette paper was bit surprising

Review 118:Location was awesome - just beautiful view. Cottage very nice and comfortable. Kitchen with all necessary equipment.

Review 119:Leaving the most serene place we've stayed in years!

Review 120:Decided to add an impromptu overnight stop in Akaroa rather than day tripping from ChCh and so glad we did. Well worth it as the drive is amazing, but with one road in and one road out, tiresome to do for a day - and staying overnight allowed us to experience amazing food and people. But back to the cottages - just a hidden piece of heaven, away from town and in beautiful wooded and lawn oasis. Waking up to nature and a million dollar view was the best from our 2 week NZ tour. We're kindly upgraded to a sea view ( thank you v much) but the garden view cottages looked just as well appointed and cosy. Not often I say this but we will DEFINITELY be back!

Review 121:Arrived late which was easily accommodated for. Thought the cottage to be very tidy and comfortable. Lovely views over the bay towards Akaroa. Requested a late minute later check out which was a problem either.

Review 122:Quite expensive & no free wifi.

Review 123:The location was excellent with stunning views of Akaroa & Children's Bay. The cottages were set on a sanctuary 12 acre which was very peaceful. We were very grateful to be upgraded to a larger cottage with a spa bath after a cancellation at the last minute.

Review 124:We loved everything at the Akaroa Cottages. Wonderful view, lovely rooms, beautiful grounds. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 125:A wonderfully peaceful location with great views situated just outside charming Akaroa. Very helpful Reception Desk.

Review 126:Didn't like how small the TV was. Trees needed to be pruned, it took the view away for the price of the room.

Review 127:The location was amazing

Review 128:Insects in room. Cobwebs on ceiling. Jet outlet cover fell off spa without even having turned it on.

Review 129:Private bush setting

Review 130:The bathroom was a bit dated for the price we were paying.

Review 131:The amazing view!

Review 132:Cottage needs an upgrade .

Review 133:Staff were extremely helpful and cheerful

Review 134:Beautiful stone cottages in lovely surroundings .we loved this accomodation
