Reviews for Richmond Hotel Matsumoto

Review 1:Hotel room is bigger than average size of hotel room in Japan. Staffs are friendly and speak English! The department store Parco is next to the hotel and the hotel itself is situated right in the city. Breakfast is also nice and has variety of food.

Review 2:If only price can be lower.

Review 3:Size of triple room is 32sqm, is spacious for my family of 5 to sleep and move around comfortably. Hotel is just around 5.mins walk from JR station and besides PARCO dept store and there are alot of small eateries along the streets between hotel and JR station. Hotel staff are helpful and can speak relatively good English. I would highly recommend this hotel for family travelling with young children.

Review 4:A bit of a walk from the station but not too far (about 7-10 minutes more or less). But if you like walking then there's nothing to complain.

Review 5:Very helpful and friendly staff. Good facilities and reasonable-sized room and bed. The price is very reasonable (rather cheap compared to the facility, location and services provided) All in all, great stay. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 6:The staff were efficient and helpful. The hotel is a short walk from the JR station, close to the tourist sites, shopping and eating. Rooms were clean and well equipped, and a choice of complimentary extra toiletries were offered at check in. Laundry facilities were of a high standard and convenient. Although we didn't eat there, a breakfast buffet was advertised at the hotel restaurant at an affordable price.

Review 7:Convenient 5 minute walk from Matsumoto station, this new hotel is clean with decent sized rooms. The hotel also has vending machines and a washer/dryer. Ladies also get extra amenities to select from at check in.

Review 8:There is no hot bath ( onsen) as other business hotel have.

Review 9:Good location but the room is small. Breakfast is good but it is not included in the room rates

Review 10:No hotel parking facilities.

Review 11:Great location, near Parco dept store and the train station. Nearest carpark is 5 min walk away though. Room was spacious (deluxe). Outstanding value for money.

Review 12:The pillows were very flat (Japanese style) so we asked for 2 extra pillows. Problem was solved quickly and easily by helpful staff.

Review 13:The staff were very helpful and spoke english well. The room was immaculate with everything we could ask for. It was very reasonably priced and the location is central to attractions in Matsumoto.

Review 14:They asked to photocopy our passports. I still don't feel comfortable about it now. Should have said "no".

Review 15:The hotel looks very new. The rooms are modern & comfortable. Location is fantastic! Right in the middle of the city.

Review 16:Location is superb. Bed is very comfortable and amenities as well as customer service was excellent. We stayed in the highest floor so view was amazing.

Review 17:the 2 persons beds are a bit small for 2 full grown Europeans :-)

Review 18:clean and comfortable rooms, very friendly and helpfull staff, nearby Matsumoto TS and 'eating & drinking'.

Review 19:Our rooms for group were separated and in different floor.

Review 20:The hotel staff is very nice and helpful. The hotel location is 5 minutes walk to downtown and surround with department store. Matsumoto castle is 12 minutes walk. They also provided parking lots for us with a considerate fee. Rooms and fasciitis are clean and comfort.

Review 21:The hotel was really good value. The room was bigger than I was expecting and super clean. The hotel had on-site laundry facilities so I could catch up on all my laundry for only a few dollars. It was located within a few minutes walk of the station and even closer to loads of places to eat and drink.

Review 22:No onsen, double bed against wall

Review 23:Close to station and city centre/castle, deep and large bath for class of hotel, comfortable bed, toast for breakfast

Review 24:The room and the bed were very small with one side of the bed against the wall making getting out in the night difficult.

Review 25:Good location, easy to find from the station and a short distance to walk. Near shops, restaurants and the castle.

Review 26:Breakfast was filling and included western and Japanese food. It was close to the station and only 15 minutes to castle and historic areas. The room was big enough but like most business hotels a bit cramped for two.

Review 27:No coin laundry, one computer for guests (20 minute allotment but can actually keep going when time expires) which costs ¥20 per copy.

Review 28:Requested ground floor room provided, clean and comfortable and easy to locate because of neon sign which stands out (7 minutes from station can otherwise be tricky from larger stations).

Review 29:The staff were very friendly and super helpful. The rooms were large by Japanese standards, very clean and well equipped. The Hotel is a couple of minutes walk from the train station and in the centre of the food and entertainment area. No request was too much for the staff.

Review 30:Triple room for three adults was a good size. Room for luggage and still plenty of space. Within walking distance of railway station, Matsumoto Castle and other attractions as well as nearby restaurants.

Review 31:This hotel was perfect for our family. The double room had ample space for our portacot and pram plus all of our baggage. The staff couldn't have been more professional or friendly. The buffet breakfast was a great deal for 850Y and the location was just down a lovely side street from the station. We recommend using the free city bikes to explore Matsumoto - a perfect town for bikes

Review 32:Rooms with great view of Matsumoto to west. Walking distance to most Matsumoto city interest and easy walking to station. Very comfortable. 24 hour breakfast restaurant next door.

Review 33:Good location in between the station and castle, walking distance to both. Staff was helpful and the room was good. Overall a good value with no issues.

Review 34:The location is very near to Matsumoto Station. Get out from east exit and head towards the direction of Mcdonalds across the street. Walk down the path and turn right at the traffic junction. The walk is only about 3 - 4 min. Our room was on a high floor and it was quiet. It is not spacious. We did not have any big luggage so room size was comfortable enough for 2. Water pressure of shower was great. Hot water flow was consistent. Staff was friendly and offered the lady a variety of POLA skin care sachets and face masks. Cafe on level 1 offers breakfast sets for hotel guests (pay 800 yen for the breakfast coupons). The drink bar was great with different types of premium coffee and tea. There are lots of local walk-in customers who come here for breakfast and dinner (not sure about lunch because we were mostly out in the day). You can get something from breakfast menu for 600 yen. So even if your room rate doesn't include breakfast, you can still have your breakfast at the cafe. The breakfast menu for hotel guest is kind of limited if you are staying for more than 2 nights. Only 6 sets to choose from. There are more options on the menu for walk-in customers. You may want to compare price and variety at the cafe before you pay for the 800 yen breakfast coupon from hotel.

Review 35:Nothing to do with the hotel itself. Don't eat at the cafe on the ground floor of the building. Totally not worth it. Go one block Northwest(?) to Ippudo for amazing ramen.

Review 36:Super helpful front desk, helped me get some aspirin at 2 AM for my headache.

Review 37:I can't find any fault with the hotel.

Review 38:I stayed here recently on the way to Tateyama Alpine Route. After my booking with Booking.com, I received an email from them thanking me for choosing their hotel. I had questions about luggage delivery and they were happy to give me some information. My room requests were fulfilled. The front office staff spoke English and was able to recommend some eateries. The room was large as compared to Tokyo and the bed was comfortable. Everything in the room was designed with the comfort of the guests in mind. Breakfast came in sets with salad buffet and free flow of drinks.I chose the grilled mackerel and it was delicious. I would say it is one of the best hotel during my Japan trip.I am still in Japan and will complete my tour on 24 May.

Review 39:Requested for a room on a high floor with a good view and got exactly that! Room had a view of the mountains which was beautiful. Location was great as it was a short walk away from the Matsumoto station. We booked a doubles room which I felt was quite spacious. As a welcome gift for ladies, I was given packet moisturizers, bath salts and face mask, which was a nice touch.

Review 40:From the moment we walked into the Richmond, it felt good. The reception staff were unfailingly courteous and helpful, and so were the maids. The room was immaculate, the bed very comfortable, and bathroom facilities very good. Hanging space for clothes, and shelves for maps, books etc, were good.

Review 41:Nothing

Review 42:The reception staff is very very polite and helpful. All of them speak english fluently. The hotel room is spacious and all amenities are provided. Free WIFI throughout the hotel. The hotel is situated within walking distance to train station, the famous frog street and matsumoto castle. If you need a park it's cost 1200YEN per night (reasonable price). There are good restaurant around hotel especially shabu-shabu and Ippudo ramen.

Review 43:Close to JR station about 5 mins walk, have a lot of convenience store near by and a large 24 hr. supermarket downstairs , Hotel Lobby is on 4th floor. Staff are very nice , The room was clean and comfortable You can walk to Matsumoto castle in 10 mins

Review 44:We stayed here for 2 nights in a triple room which is a lot more spacious than we expected. The bed, pillow and blanket are very comfortable. Staff are helpful and friendly. The location is also great, only 2 minutes walk from the train station and there're plenty of restaurants nearby.

Review 45:I've stayed in a few Richmond Hotels now and they've been uniformly great value. Nice decor, very clean rooms, good facilities including laundrettes. I think for price they're marvellous, outside of the main cities you can very good deals indeed. This one is well situated, the Castle is 15 minute stroll, the Station a 10 minute amble and the surrounding area felt quiet and safe (like most of Japan).

Review 46:Not a thing!

Review 47:Richmond is a short walk from the train station and Matsumoto Castle. The room was so comfortable and big by Japanese standards. Excellent breakfast. I would highly recommend!

Review 48:The bed was a bit too firm for my taste, but it seems to be the way the Japanese prefers it.

Review 49:Friendly staff, comfortable room (somewhat small but worked great for us), wifi throughout the facility, spa products given to women when checking in. Breakfast for 800 yen in the cafe downstairs. Business style hotel-

Review 50:Possibly the lobby could have been a little more welcoming. The air conditioning & air cleaner were only in Japanese so they were difficult to operate. Even so the room was warm and smelt great!

Review 51:The place is extremely clean and tidy, no signs of wear and tear even though built 13 years ago. Staff were respectful and efficient. Rooms were quite spacious, price for a 3 star was certainly value for money especially thx to booking.com!

Review 52:nothing

Review 53:The reception staff is very very polite and helpful. All of them speak english fluently. The hotel room is spacious and all amenities are provided. Free WIFI throughout the hotel. The hotel is situated within walking distance to train station, the famous frog street and matsumoto castle. I would highly recommend this hotel and I will defintely stay at this hotel again for my next trip to matsumoto.

Review 54:The double room is very "compact". Twin room much more spacious.

Review 55:We liked the staff, brilliant, modern comfy room, great breakfast for 8000 yen, location, cleanliness and quiet

Review 56:With everywhere we stayed in Japan the only down side of our trip to your hotel was that there was no bottled water provided in the rooms. We stayed 3 nights and came back to the room on the second day to find two random bottles of water for us but we didnt get it the first day or any day after that. Only other things would be to have 4 pillows instead of two for a couple ina double room as the pillows were too soft to use on their own but this is being very fussy for a budget hotel stay. Regards

Review 57:Lovely obliging staff

Review 58:The best business hotel we had in Japan. Big room (for Japanese standard) and nice extras in the room like charger for mobile, coffee drip set, heated mirror in the bathroom etc. and everything new and clean

Review 59:Room is big. Hotel is easy to locate. Only 5 minutes walk to train station and 10 minutes away from the castle. Service is good, staff speak good English. There are restaurants and shops around the corner. Really value for money.

Review 60:Nothing, really:)

Review 61:Very good size of double room comparing with other Japanese hotel standard. Super clean. Matsumoto Castle is not far. Next to shopping center which is very convenient:)

Review 62:Movie access was a bit expensive (1000 Yen for 24 hours)

Review 63:Spacious and comfortable room, everything was clean and tidy, excellent bathrooom, staff were very helpful, large TV and desk. We had an amazing view of the city and the mountains from our room

Review 64:View of city & the Alps from our 10th floor room, very helpful staff on reception. Maps of local eateries. Close to station & main attractions.

Review 65:Breakfast is in a café on the ground floor. It isn't really worth the effort to go through the hotel since your choices will be limited.

Review 66:Clean but small rooms. Very centrally located.

Review 67:We could find no fault.

Review 68:Easy to find from map provided. Close to railway and bus stations. Themost reasonably priced hotel we found in Japan - good facilitiesincluding spacious room. Pleasant stroll to the Castle.

Review 69:The room was hot and we were unable to alter this, left the door open. Room smaller than advertised

Review 70:We had great help from the reception staff when we needed medical help

Review 71:We don't have local credit card but staff tried to ask us to use the auto machine which accept only local card. Need to change the cards and it took some time

Review 72:Big and clean room

Review 73:We liked the location, very short walk from the train station and an equally short walk to Matsumoto Castle. Staff were helpful and the room very comfortable. The cafe downstairs was very convenient for meals.

Review 74:Bed up against the wall but came across this in a few Japanese hotels due to the tight spaces - roomy otherwise though, enough so to put cases out of the way & get around OK. Nothing really that we didn't like.

Review 75:5 minutes' walk from the train station; BBC & CNN on the TV, not overdubbed; laundry facilities costing about 300 yen for the wash & 200 yen for an hour's drying, fantastically convenient; breakfast in the attached Gusto restaurant also convenient; gift of bath salts or other goodies offered to ladies at check in at the time we stayed, a nice gesture.

Review 76:Location is near train station. They will provide you recommendations for dining option - I tried two and they are both very decent. Our room is of good size and clean.

Review 82:Big room and comfortable bed. Very inexpensive to stay at. Good location.

Review 84:Nothing.

Review 85:Location. Room size.

Review 86:Little noisy due to night work close to hotel.
