Reviews for Casa Vela B&B

Review 1:The room was a little dated - but still very clean, spacious and functional.

Review 2:The location was serene, the staff were very helpful and welcoming, and the breakfast was lovely. Loved the wine bar attached to the B&B.

Review 3:Lots of steps to top flat, some not well lit, so unsuitable for those with mobility problems or poor sight. Could have done with an overhead light for cooking and reading.

Review 4:Friendly, informative, personable staff - nothing too much trouble. Comfy bed and sofa. Great view. Quiet, off-season visit. Enjoyed watching fishermen.

Review 5:Unfortunately, the bathroom smelled unpleasant, probably due to old sewerage system in Scilla. The mattresses in our room were very soft - this could be a problem if you had problems with your back. The rooms are a little clairaudient.

Review 6:superfriendly&hospitable staff&host - great atmosphere!! they had good recommendations for trips in the area and were always available for any questions. free transfer to the trainstation! really nice bar in the basement. we had a balcony & could hear the sea from our room which was really lovely. the breakfast was good and prepared according to our wishes every morning. the b&b lies in a quiet little street in the beautiful ancient part of Scilla.

Review 7:Residents only can have vehicles on the street so you have to carry luggage 400 metres to accommodation. But the walk is charming.

Review 8:Stunning location quaint, friendliness of staff, helpful, reasonable price

Review 9:The room and the furniture is a bit outdated and needs some renovation. The extra-bed in the living room (a pull-out-sofa) is quite uncomfortable.

Review 10:Staff is very friendly and welcoming, the location is perfect in the middle of a lovely street directly on the shore. The view from the balcony is amazing.

Review 11:Our entire experience at Casa Vela was wonderful. We had the *marecielo' apartment on the top floor which has incredible views of the town, Stromboli and the Italian coast. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was also very nice. We enjoyed the on-site wine bar too!

Review 12:Breakfast was outstanding and delicious. Location was on a very quaint street and having the Wine Bar on site was really a bonus.

Review 13:We arrived in Scillia at 6:00 am by train (for check in that day) Francesca was so accommodating when she found us sitting on their doorstep at 7:00 am. She allowing us to wash up and change then store our luggage at their facility until the room was ready, and then made us a coffee and crescent which was delicious. The rest of our stay was just was wonderful, Francesco and Francesca and staff were great to deal with and did everything possible to make our vacation relaxing and enjoyable.

Review 14:nope, everything great

Review 15:location, location and location. be sure to have a room on top - with with of the sea. fantastic breakfast served in the cafe downstairs.

Review 16:Comfortable, bright, spacious apartment, with a terrace with a view you never want to leave. Lovely staff gave us the warmest welcome, and the breakfast the next morning was a feast. The town is a pleasure to explore too. We were sorry to leave and will come back for sure! Very highly recommended.

Review 17:Francesco was amazing, he picked us up from train station and dropped us to the door, helped carry up the luggage to our room which was upgraded to ocean view, he returned the next morning and drive us on a tour to palmi and back. Was our best experience in Europe so far.

Review 18:We were unable to connect to the wifi, although we tried different devices and operating systems. It could have been a widespread problem with the ISP, though, since we visited during a major storm.

Review 19:Francesco (we didn't meet Francesca) is extremely helpful and gracious. Nice to be met with a glass of good local wine after a long drive. The property is very well maintained. Excellent location in the old part of town. (Looking at the map, we were a bit concerned about the proximity of the small highway that bisects Scilla, but you can't hear or see it from Casa Vela.) The view from the rooftop deck and balcony is stunning, even in lousy weather.

Review 20:I can imagine the wine bar below could be a little noisy until later than some people might want to go to sleep. It didn't bother us though.

Review 21:A welcoming glass of wine Location Friendly Clean

Review 22:Difficult to get to as very narrow street, with car parking some distance away. Crockery needs replenishing. Not enough WiFi expanders to get service.

Review 23:Great view if you have a sea view apartment, very pretty old part of town right on shoreline, nice breakfasts and good having wine bar below.

Review 24:No hot water, no gas for the stove, mattress was box spring, discounted restaurant did not have discount and access and directions were difficult.

Review 25:Staff was excellent

Review 26:The small room was humid, no view.

Review 27:francesco and francesca were very friendly and helpfull. Room with balcon sightseeing was very nice. Breakfast was very good.

Review 28:Everything was fine. Perhaps some , Home Fragrance & Room Deodorizer or a flower will add a touch of glamour.

Review 29:The B&B appartment was large enough for my needs. I liked quietness and great summer weather in September. Everything was well organized for my arrival/departure. Breakfast was abundant and tasty. The village of Chianalea is a little 2 avenues pittoresque enclave in the town of Scilla. Reminded me of the Sicily portrayed in Tornatore's movies.

Review 30:We were treated really well by Francesca and Francesco who run the place and who pay attention to everything. The B&B is very nice and located in a small street very close to the sea. The apartment was fully equipped and had everything you need to spend a few days in an amazing location. Also very recommended the vine Bar run by them where you can taste the local food and wines.

Review 31:There was no wifi except in the bar, 3 floors down. It doesn't affect your vacation but it was complicate for us since we needed to book tickets and other stuff.

Review 32:We loved the location, in a really authentic part of Scilla. Just make sure you know how to get there before arriving or you might walk a loooot like we did, but if you follow the practical way it is not far at all from train station, etc. The apartment is well equiped, so if you plan on cooking I would suggest buying provisions before arriving to Scilla since the town doesn't have a big supermarket, only a basic small market. Excellent breakfast and lovely people. Francesco and Francesca were super nice and caring.

Review 33:There was no, or bad wi-fi connection.

Review 34:The owners, Francesca and Francisco, were very friendly and helpful. Nicelly located in a typical Italian street. Relaxed and easy going.

Review 35:Initially the B&B was a little difficult to find. Wifi did not work well.

Review 36:Very welcoming and helpful hosts. Francesco helped us with our heavy bags to and from our car which we had parked at the fishing port about 10 minutes walk away, also up and down the steep steps to our room. Lovely location very close to the sea.

Review 37:There was only WiFi available at the cafe. It was hard to find: access is via a small street virtually on the water's edge. Check before arriving!

Review 38:Great location: I was given a private room in a home on the waters edge: fabulous! I arrived very late but was made to feel most welcome. Breakfast at a local cafe was simple but fine. My host was extremely friendly.

Review 39:Parking issues it is about 400 m walking, we been at Dec so no busy time.

Review 40:The location was good, the village is beautiful

Review 41:Great little village

Review 42:Problems when parking.

Review 43:Nothing

Review 44:The best part of Scilla. Do get a room with a view.

Review 45:Location is beautiful.

Review 46:Kitchen could have been better equipped, bed quite uncomfortable

Review 47:Location and very friendly peoplr

Review 48:Parking is very difficult because of the small streets.

Review 49:Very near to the sea, so nice to sleep with the sound of the waves.

Review 50:Old city and location, friendlyness of staff, wine tasting

Review 51:Includes a wine bar with a free glass of local wine....an excellent mixer opportunity.

Review 52:We loved the balcony and the wine bar downstairs.

Review 53:There wasn't one thing I didn't like!

Review 54:Francesca & Francesco were the most fantastic hosts one could ask for. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

Review 55:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 56:We loved Scilla itself the moment we arrived and our 2 night stay was totally enhanced by staying at this wonderful B & B. The hosts Francesco and Francesca made us so welcome and our room with a balcony and sea view was perfect. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

Review 57:Friendly, intimate nature of accommodation. Charming and v helpful hosts, running us to station for an early morning departure for no charge. Lovely little alley on which B & B located.

Review 58:Fantastic place to stay. Beautiful location with a nice deli shop (owned by the same people) underneath. Very clean rooms, proper coffee machine in the kitchen and a tasty breakfast.

Review 59:On arrival we were warm-heartedly welcomed by Fra and Fra with coffee on the terrace. They were extremely hospitable and helpful and gave us more than sufficient relevant information and hints. We had a comfortable room with balcony, offering breathtaking views of both village and sea! A place to be recommended to everyone we know! We will undoubtedly come back!!! Our sincerest compliments!!! Hanneke and Martijn Zijl, The Netherlands.

Review 60:Everything was just great. The location is really nice and its possible to walk on the beach or the castle and upper town from it.The room was big and clean. I cannot comment on kitchen really, because we didn't use it at all -food in restaurants is just too good for that, but it looked well equipped. The hosts are really very nice and kind and the little terrace outside is more than perfect for breakfast or evening wine and food aperitif (which I really recommend to try!). Just the staircase to the studios is quite steep and narrow and could make some problems to older people or people with big luggage, but the owner was really very kind and helpful, and took our luggage upstairs even if it wasn't big at all.

Review 61:Beautiful location in a charming fishing village. The owner Francesco was so kind and helpful and gave us lots of information about where to go and what to see. Scilla is well worth a visit for the stunning location and it easy to visit other parts of Calabria. We will certainly return to Casa Vela

Review 62:Parking about 200m from the place, which would be all good except under pouring rain, which we had

Review 63:Kitchen and table in the studio, plenty of room, nice street, nice simple Italian breakfast, friendly host

Review 64:That we had to leave.

Review 65:Francesca and Francesco did an excellent job. In Casa Vela we felt really as guests, not just visitors. The house is beautiful, in romantic alley close to the sea. Our appartement was fully equiped and has a terace with an amazing sea view. Perfect to have a glass of wine watching the sundown. Breakfast was the best we have ever got in Italy. So if you are looking for a B&B in Scilla, you can't do anything wrong choosing Casa Vela.

Review 66:Despite putting my arrival time in the Booking.com reservation, Francesco was an hour late (but at least he gave me the password so I could go online while I waited). The mountain side room was really dismal and damp, so I appreciated the upgrade to street view. The rooms were clean but needed some maintenance as paint and plaster was chipping, the wallpaper borders were peeling back and there were scuff marks all over the wall. Two small supermarkets are located on top of the hill, at the back of the town but I only discovered these on my last night, so I wan't able to take advantage of the kitchen. Payment is cash only and thankfully I had enough as there is only one bank machine in town (on top of the hill) and it was out of service. WiFi was slow and the signal weak but it almost always worked. Breakfast was just okay - mostly breads and spreads.

Review 67:If you get the seaview room on top, or at least one of the seaside ones, with balcony, where you can hear the waves, you'll really like this B&B as those rooms really are charming and the fishing village location is great. The patio out front is nice too. You are quite a distance from the train station, but the fishing side of town is much more charming than the beach side.

Review 68:Very hard to find Available parking is hundreds of meters away from the property on very narrow streets This property is good if you are going to stay there for several days, since in this case you probably won't mind to spend a couple of hours for finding a property and then moving your luggage for hundreds of meters to a room. But a stay for a night (and especially after a long day drive) is probably is not a good option.

Review 69:Fantastic location in authentic old house in village historic center. Great beaches.

Review 70:The owner is fantastic, he's obviously into his food, and the breakfast was lovely, as well as the location sitting on the little cobbled street below listening to the waves. The rooms are huge and the top one has a lovely view of the sea, the food was so good, we didn't need the fully equipped kitchenette. Gorgeous beach just 10 minutes scenic walk around the corner, and parking was no problem on the outskirts with a 10 min walk to the hotel. As an FYI there was no supermarket in town so if you do want to use the kitchen, stock up beforehand.

Review 71:There are great problems with parking & carrying suitcases in the room upstairs.

Review 72:Casa Vela is situated in the one of the best place in Italy. The staf is very hospitality. The design of the hotel is wounderful.

Review 73:The television did not work that well but this was not an issue as we donot go on holidays to watch tv.

Review 74:The staff were very helpful and accommodating. As well they wereextremely knowledgeable with regard to the sites and the history of thesurrounding area. The breakfast was amazing.

Review 75:The whole experience was just amazing - great location, nice beach not too far from the place, surrounded by gorgeous restaurants..the owners were very helpful, they went to meet us when we couldn't find the place. definitely will be back there!

Review 76:Breakfast could be better.

Review 77:Ideal setting in best part of Scilla. Great welcome by Francesco and Francesca who helped us planning our further trip. Nice, clean and complete room with kitchen. Great value for money!

Review 78:Stairs to room. Property a bit hard to find.

Review 79:Friendly, helpful hosts. Excellent accommodation. Lovely view.

Review 80:We loved everything about Casa Vela

Review 81:Everything

Review 82:Very nice place, room with seaview and balcony, really romantic

Review 83:great location lovely, helpful staff HUUUUGE breakfast!!!

Review 84:Fantastic location, exceptional view, friendly host, nonstandard breakfast...

Review 85:Not really 10 meters from a beach .... 10 meters from rocky shoreline maybe

Review 86:host was fantastic and super helpful. Great location in a wonderful place.
